They've done work on one of our previous cars for MULTIPLE services and repairs, and was recommended. Stopped in for possible work on our new(er) car and got nothing but the run around about needing to diagnose the problem first, or course few more hundreds of bucks, when we already knew what the issue was. I was denied talking with anyone... and that the gal out front who said she was the owners wife was the one who gave quotes, even though I saw no ASE Mechanic Certifications for her. So... I jump through their hoops anyway and started filing out their form. They wanted a phone number to text, but I don't have one for that, but she was fine with an email address to do the same, and said it would work. She said they would contact me for diagnosis (or something?) but she was already annoyed. She refused to let me finish filing out ALL the info on their form, snapped up her clip board from me, walked to the back, and that was that, never saw her again, and I've NEVER received an email quote either. I have a 2019 GLS450 that has always had this slight clunk on the right side while making slow sharp right turns. The noise over the years got progressively worse and with the car being under warranty I would routinely take the car over to Wilsonville Mercedes and my experience there was not awesome. Over three years I had the truck in the shop for months trying to fix or even claim to replicate the issue. Eventually the warranty runs out and the noise keeps getting worse. Well, at that point I start throwing parts at it. Changed the upper CA's, the right wheel bearing/hub, all the inner/outer tie rods, the air struts and despite everything I had done I could not resolve the issue. I made an appointment with Star Motors and took the truck in for a diagnosis. Spent a good amount of time going over what I'd done and what was happening. I dropped the truck off hoping for the best but recognizing that this was not fixed by many people. Welp, three hours later I get the call that they think they figured it out and fixed it. I biked over to get the truck and sure enough, it's fixed!!! My truck drives like a brand new truck again!! No clunks, no noises and with all the stuff I swapped it's like better than when I got it. This business has changed ownership. My experience with them was good, until recently. After $2600 in repairs and a clean bill of health, my car's battery died. They could not find the problem. Right after I got it back, the car started making an alarming noise from underneath the battery. I took the car to the dealership & they said they hooked it up to some diagnostic equipment and immediately identified two equipment failures that were causing the problem. I'm not sure if they don't have the equipment to do the diagnostics, or if they just didn't do them, but I don't have the confidence in them to go back there. read more

As a "highly skilled amateur" mechanic, it is rare that I need to take my cars to a mechanic. My limitations are that I don't have the space or tools to do major/messy/specialty repairs, so I sometimes need a mechanic. I was bracing myself for an insane bill and a mechanic that would try to talk me into repairs that weren't completely necessary, as I have had this happen numerous times in portland MBZ shops in the past, but I was pleasantly surprised! What I actually found was the most honest, up front mechanic I've ever dealt with. Ken shows a respect for my interest and skill as an amateur mechanic and even goes so far as to advise me to do certain lower-level repairs myself, even though he knows this means he won't see the revenue from those repairs. He is careful to inquire about my skill level and experience before making any such suggestion, which is something that I've never found in any shop. I'm accustomed to being told "leave it to the professionals" after being treated like an over-zealous fool, but I haven't had and would never expect this treatment from him. He offered suggestions for self-repair and advised me of the potential pitfalls of attempting certain repairs myself, after which I decided to have him do the repairs after all. Another example of him avoiding dishonest trickery to get more of your money: I asked for an estimate one day for a biodiesel conversion- He adamantly advised me against any sort of biodiesel conversion, informing me that it can damage injector pumps and other parts on the specific model I own. I have had other shops try to talk me into this $800 job on numerous occasions. The fact that he outright shut down my desire to make this potentially harmful conversion further speaks to his level of integrity. He charges an incredibly fair price and is always very helpful and informative. Ken, the owner at star motors, won my business with the assertion that he had a combined 30 years of experience working on Mercedes-Benz vehicles (15 in a dealer service center, 15 as the proprietor of Star motors). He provided me an overall better experience than MBI and other "MBZ Specialists" I have dealt with, with a more personal level of service and a greater deal of integrity. He is the only mechanic I will ever trust with my growing fleet of classic Mercedes-Benz cars and I hope you give him a call before going somewhere else!!! read more
