I brought my car in for rear brake pads/rotors. As a new customer, they do what seems like a thorough examination of the vehicle. They recommended several things, totaling over $2000. The quotes did not separate out the cost of parts from the cost of labor. Their prices were higher than the two other quotes I'd received, but I still got the brakes done there. Customer service at the front desk/on the phone was friendly. They paid for an Uber to bring me back to the shop since their courtesy vehicle wasn't available at that time. When another mechanic reviewed some of the work they recommended, it sounded like they may have been overzealous in their thorough examination/recommendations. For example, the drive belt has the beginnings of a minor crack but it sounds like it's probably not going to be an issue for 20,000 miles. They also asked for a review multiple times after the service. Final answer: They aren't (and don't claim to be) the affordable option, but their service advisors were pleasant and I felt like they didn't try to pressure me into more services once I said no/defer to most recs. read more

How do I author a memorable review for SAR, especially after looking at some of the others left on Yelp? I've used SAR for a few years now. Been to their shop a half dozen times. What someone new to the search for a reputable mechanic's shop will encounter is that SAR is that they're straight shooters. They'll give you a quote and do their best to remain around the quoted price. IF for some reason something pops up...like what happened with a prior service job on my Toyota Tacoma where the CEL popped up, it was serviced yet the CEL reappeared...they'll drive the solution to ground (as it were). What does that mean? They'll get to the root of the issue openly and honestly. In my case a pin on my ECU was shorted out. SAR was very transparent about what the issue was once it was diagnosed instead of just throwing new parts at the problem and sending you on your way. My latest issue was worn out U-joints and center drive bearing. I was feeling (and hearing) vibrations when I was accelerating. I even had video to show them that demonstrated the issue that was occurring. Bob brought the mechanic who would be working on my truck to see the video. They came back at me within 24 hours with a quote. Now...me being a trusting person, I googled the diagnosis and SAR came back several hundred dollars UNDER an online quote from 2017 from someone with a similar issue. The other nice thing is that their quote is separated by labor and parts costs, so you can see what they're doing clearly. What you'll need to remember is that SAR is a "small" repair facility. They aren't a dealership. They don't have loaner vehicles. They WILL however drop you off at your home or at a rental car location, which they've done for me multiple times. **Straight talk** SAR is honest and ethical. Their pricing is competitive. They give clear quotes. They are reasonable and equitable. Support local business, use SAR. Hopefully this review helps you make a good decision. read more

Friendly, but won't stand behind their diagnostic work. Have a miss-firing and intermittent lack of power issue with my truck, and they gave me a huge list of things that needed to be fixed, with only a few of them being in relation to the issue. I did the work myself, and it hasn't fixed the problem, nor will they even talk about what to do next because I didn't have them do the work. So basically a waste of time and money to have them diagnose, and 2/3 of the things diagnosed had nothing to do with what I need to have a dependable truck. Take your money elsewhere because clearly they are searching for 3x what you need done, and diagnostics are not dependable. read more

My one critique is pricing, but perhaps this is more of a learning experience since I've ever only gone to the dealership and maybe indie shops work differently. But I was surprised when I was charged for diagnosing the problem because at the dealership, they don't charge you for diagnosing the problem IF you get it repaired there. So the diagnosis cost about as much as the repair. I definitely got better service than at the dealership, but the cost of the repair was my entire month's income so if you're dealing with low-income life these days, you may have to choose price over service. read more

After reading the reviews on yelp I decided to take the car in to get the check engine light checked. They diagnosed the problem, I opted to do the work myself, few spark plugs and a coil I could do. So I was given the keys after signing the paperwork. And off I went to the house 30 minutes away. Upon my arrival at home I received a call from SAR. I was told, not everything had been tighten back down Great, I thought there goes your yelp review cause I'm not driving back. Then Scott said he was on the way out to the house to make it right. Thank the lordt. 30 minutes later Scott showed up, apologized for the oversight, tightened everything down, gave me a mini lesson on the coils while securing bolts and then refunded me my money. Praise the Lordt, cause his yelp review was still hanging in the balance. I was elated to say the least and it made my less than stellar experience all much better. Now that's customer service right there. Scott and his crew are the good guys. If and when I need to take a vehicle into the shop again I will return to SAR.
