My daughter's car was leaking power steering fluid. This place checked it out. Recommended a new power steering pump and hoses for $1151. Seemed like a high quote and I was worried my college-aged daughter was being taken advantage of so we called two other shops for a quote for this same repair. Both shops quoted half of what this place did. Car is fixed for a more reasonable cost. Staff was fine to talk to and attentive. If you have money to burn, this might work for you. Steve's is always helpful, friendly and appropriately priced. I never feel like I'm getting ripped off or given bad advice. Tips: bring your car in EARLY! The sooner you get it there, the sooner they'll have it back to you. In my experience they tend to have my Camry ready earlier than estimated. In one instance I really needed to make sure I had by car back by late afternoon and even though they were busy, they made it happen! It's also my understanding that they'll shuttle you back home or wherever else you need to be dropped off. So nice! I haven't used that service though as I usually walk around downtown Newberg & shop as I wait. I also appreciate the fact that they always call before moving ahead with any additional service. Often I go in for one thing and they notice one or two others. They call, let you know the situation (whether it's a near-future, just a warning, or an almost immediate concern), quote the prices & then you can choose what you would like to move forward with. This is super helpful as I don't know much about cars. Again, this is a trustworthy shop. I have found them to be honest, friendly, and a lot more affordable than larger auto service businesses (especially for when I was in college). I have had the worst experiences from using local auto shops in other cities and Steve's has redeemed the local auto body shop. This place is great! The Beaverton Kia dealership told me that my Soul needed brakes right away. I went to Steve's for a second opinion. They test drove my SUV, removed the tires/wheels and inspected the brakes, and reported to me that I had several more months of good wear... and didn't charge me! It pays to get a second opinion... Or does it? I'm not entirely certain what to think about Steve's. I took my truck in to have my front brake pads replaced at 125k miles, and was advised that my rear drum brakes were toast and needed to be replaced too. I was quoted $362 for the fronts, which seemed a bit high, but I'm also new to the area and haven't had to have brakes done in a while. I was quoted $600 for the rear brakes. After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I asked to just have the fronts done and I'd come back for the rears. When the work was done, I was about to be charged $400, until I brought up that that's not what I was quoted on the phone. To their credit, they made it right. I did some more calling around, and found that Les Schwab quoted me $200 for the rear brakes with no appointment needed. I took my truck in, they inspected the rear brakes and said they were just fine and had another 25k miles' worth of life left in them. I don't exactly have a lift, so I have no way of checking this for myself, but I have to admit this sounds suspicious. One shop refuses to charge me to do the work unless I really want them to because the work doesn't need to be done, while another shop (Steve's) says the situation is dire and it will cost triple what it would cost at the other shop to fix. Took my car here for diagnostics as it was running weird. They gave me the diagnosis of misfiring coils and plugs and wanted to charge me $1500!! I have family members that are mechanics so I called them and they told me I was getting ripped off. It's getting fixed on Monday for half the cost at the Ford Dealership. Everyone at Steve's was friendly, but unfortunately were just trying to take advantage of an unknowing college student. Disappointing and won't be returning. read more

Hello, I went to Steve's auto service to have my A/C vacuumed and recharged. I told them when we replaced the heater core that we unintentionally purged the A/C system. They quoted me a charge of $150 to vacuum and recharge the system. I received a call approximately an hour later stating "we are unable to test your A/C as it won't turn cold. The mode is not working. It is stuck on hot. We need to determine the reason for this problem before charging the system." They then quoted me $495 to fix the "non working" dial. I did not have anything repaired by them. I went and picked up my car. The air vents were closed. The temperature setting was turned to hot. I opened the air vents (i had closed these prior to taking my car to them) and turned the temperature dial to cold. I then had cooler ambient air temperature then when the temp setting was turned to hot. The air wasn't cool or cold as there was no coolant in the A/C system, which i knew, as I had purged it doing a previous repair (as mentioned above). I am LIVID that this company tried to upcharge me almost $500 to "fix" a part that wasn't broken. I am also LIVID that they assumed that could cheat me, presumably, because I am a woman. I am not an auto mechanic, nor do i presume to be. I do know my way around a car decently as well as I having some basic critical thinking skills. This company is DISHONEST, LACKS INTEGRITY, is DISCRIMINATORY, and should be ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES! They are THIEVES! What if I were a person on a fixed income or a single parent who desperately needed that $ to support my children or feed myself? Steve's auto service needs to be put on blast for their DISHONORABLE business practices! read more

I thought I had to get new brakes because they were making a horrible noise. I dropped off my car for a quote and just an hour or two later Bob called and said all my car needed was to have the brakes cleaned and adjusted. Instead of hundreds of dollars for new brakes I didn't need I spent $30! I'm going to use him again for my routine maintenance. So refreshing to find an honest business person. I originally chose the shop because it was only blocks away from my new job. Now I'll choose it because they do good work. read more

I had my brake master cylinder replaced. $55 to diagnose, but if you get service done, it's put toward your total bill. Fast, friendly, and communicative. I don't have enough experience with repair shops to comment on price, but it did not seem outlandish. read more

This place is awesome and provided exceptional customer service for me despite my walking through their door right as they were closing. Both my headlights were out and it was right around 5 p.m. in December when I arrived at Steve's so it was already dark. I try to never go into a business close to or right as they're closing, but I couldn't find the hours posted and their neon OPEN sign was still on. Steve offered to take a look at my car real quick and no more than 10 minutes later, they had replaced my headlight bulbs for an incredibly reasonable price. I was traveling alone with my six month old, and my transmission light came on. These guys had the open sign turned off, but they still checked my fluids and ran whatever tests to be sure I could get to my destination. They even called a dealer and made an appointment for me. The check engine light was on in my son's Jeep Liberty so I had him take it there to have it looked at. They came back with a list of items that needed to be addressed totaling $1700. One of these items were the front brakes which they said needed to be done very soon. I know my way around a car and have done engine rebuilds, brake jobs, etc... but with my busy schedule lately I prefer to send this work out. Anyways, I pulled his front tires and had a look for myself and the brakes only had about 40% wear so probably a good 30,000 miles left on them before it would even be close. Either Steve's are a bunch of crooks or they are incompetent, neither of which is good. I will not take anymore cars there. read more

I will not ever use or recommend Steve's auto in Newberg. Took my car to get checked at steves auto in Newberg. diagnosis fee (which others do for free) to check heater and AC as written on the work order. I give the props for calling me back in a timely manner. $800 for new radiator, thermostat, fluids, and install. Called O'rielys, radiator - $98! Called steves up and said, no just fix the AC. Steves said that it would be an additional $85-100 to do another diagnosis! I said no, you told me $85 when I dropped my car off. They said well it will be another $85-100. Went in to pick up my car and "Tom", a tall and homely looking individual, asked if I was going to do it myself. I said yes reiterated that I was told the AC system would be checked, inclusive of the $85. Tom said that it didn't make sense because, and I agree, AC and radiator are two different systems and that the AC could be a compressor issue or gas leak, but that's not my point. I was told $85 for both and that I'm sure that it was my compressor in my AC system, I just have no way of checking it. Tom then informed me, that for me, to change the compressor would be $1,000 with an insulting undertone. I said this is why I'm not letting you do the work and I want copy's of the WORK order and radiator job estimate. He childishly emailed as he gave me my receipt and radiator quote. I said what about the copy of the work order? Toms superiority complex of a smile vanished from his face as he informed me that the work order belonged to them and he was not going to give me a copy. FYI, O'Rileys - radiator $100 doing it myself. TNT Motor Sports in Bunns village in Mac, radiator job, $350. AC inspection/servicing - $100 and will cut total price of extra parts or what to work with you. ... Got a voice mail from Steve. Just called him back. Pleasant person to speak with. Going to meet with him tomorrow. read more

I had my Saab 9-5 in for a simple tune up and fuel injection cleaning, and it 1.) came back with a new noise in the brakes and 2.) the MPG were much lower. About the brakes, I was told it wasn't their fault and it was just a coincidence that the brakes started making the noise directly after being serviced. (They did check brakes/pads, so I know they were messing with the brakes.) When I took it back in for them to look into what happened to the MPG, their attitude was terrible and, again, they immediatley took the defensive and said it was not their fault. After more prompting than should have been neccessary, they did agree to go back in and find the problem. A quality company should always stand behind their work and if they mess something up, they should apologize and guarantee they will fix it. Not only did they not want to fix it at all, they made us feel like we were being unreasonable to want our car in as good of condition upon getting it out of the shop as when it went in. two different cars, two issues with this repair shop. almost a year ago, we brought my wife s SUV in to have a battery replaced. they called with an estimate so we could give the go-ahead before having the work done. on the phone they quoted about 96 dollars, we said ok go ahead... and when we went to pick up the SUV, that had changed to 196 dollars. i asked about the price difference and they said oh you must have misunderstood us on the phone . now we have a part needing repair on my car and i called various places in town to get an estimate before bringing my car in somewhere. different places asked questions to narrow down the issue. steve s however said it s tricky to even give an idea to you over the phone, it could range from a 400 dollar repair to a 1000 dollar repair. i said okay, would you like me to bring the car to you for you to check out and give me an accurate estimate? they replied that i would have to be committed to doing the repair then and there, because it would be 200 dollars just to give an estimate. i then informed them that was unreasonable since i had talked to multiple repair shops already (steve s was actually the first place i called, but the only place that didn t answer my call and i had to leave them a message, everybody else answered my call) and the other repair shops either had a MUCH lower cost for giving an estimate or a free estimate. this repair shop responded that they would take better care of my car and that other places would just rip the panels off to fix the problem . so to summarize, steve s gave me an estimate that ended up costing double when the battery was installed, then told me that they would charge 200 dollars to give an estimate to get a repair done, then bad-mouthed their local competition. i would strongly suggest finding another repair shop in this area. read more
