Go somewhere else. I've been coming to this nail salon for several years. Today, I was charged an extra $10 dollars to take off gel polish from two toes. An extra $10 dollars for quick-drying Polish. I have been to a couple of nail spas but Star Nails has been the best so far! The place was immaculate, the floors sparkling. I went for a manicure and was very satisfied. My only complaint was that the girl that did my nails was very quiet even when I tried to engage her her in conversation. All in all, I will definitely go back! read more

Yesterday my sister and I had mani/pedi. I booked a double appointment because I don't like to wait. John was my manicurist for the gentle relaxing pedicure and my top notch gel manicure. By far my favorite nail salon around. I travel a lot for work and I always stop here when I'm at home. They are extremely clean and very friendly. They're incredibly attentive and helpful. I've gotten many mani pedis here and I've also gotten a few waxes done. Both were satisfactory. read more

i had to take a minute to write this review based on a number of things... i have been to many nail salons over time and i have never come across one as nice as this (mind you this place is an hour away from me).. the service was outstanding, the salon itself was immaculate and the job they did on my nails was unbelievable. from the moment i stepped foot into that salon, it was a pleasurable experience. they took the time to explain the process of what they were about to do, and why they were choosing that for me. although there was a slight language barrier it is in no way a reason for me not to recommend or come back. this is by far one of the best nail salons i have ever been to! and as far as the price, i always say, you get what you pay for. i am looking forward to my return visit, and going to try the waxing.... read more

Just returned from the Bristol location. Never have I had such a wonderful mani and pedi.!! Foot and leg massage ,hot towels, hot wax treatment for hands,plus a wonderful back and neck massage with hot towels!! THE WORST PLACE ON THE ISLAND This is definitely a quick money making place. It has nothing to do with a good service and satisfactory results. I came for a pedicure and was unfamiliar with their services, as it was my first time at this place. The woman asked me which pedicure I wanted and was not happy that she had to explain different options. I was surprised to hear that every single thing on the list is ala carte. I quickly found out, that in reality, I can't get anything done for the price that I was quoted at the door. I've decided to give it a try anyway, since I was already there and I was being assured that they will do some miraculous things with my feet. I was given a small bottle of water, and after soaking my feet for about 5 minutes, they put some kind of cream on my feet, had them wrapped in a towel and I sat with it for another 5 minutes. This "miracle" cream was supposed to get rid of all my dry skin and make my feet smooth. The towels came off and my feet got wiped. No scrubbing or scrapping, nothing. I was given a two minute massage that I didn't ask for, and was send on my way...right after I was charged $45.00! My feet looked and felt exactly the same two days later. I still had dry skin on my heels and the bottom of my feet. Please don't waste your money at this place....unless you want to try the most expensive bottle of water in the world. I had been to Star nails in the past and received a great gel manicure so I was excited to go back again, but unfortunately my manicurist this time was not so talented. He ground up my nails so roughly that he broke skin on four of my fingers and cut up my pinky so bad that it became slightly infected and still hurt half a week later. Three days after my manicure a nail also broke which was fairly painful. He also seemed slightly rushed as I wasn't even told to wash my nails after he had ground up and filed them before he put on new polish. He also made comments on how the polish she was taking off was not "done right," even though they had been done there not even 3 weeks before. Before I would have told anyone who needed a good manicure to head there but now after this experience I would tell anyone to stay away. It was painful and I am still paying for it now with my nails starting to chip and break not more than a few days afterwards. I would suggest going anywhere else. read more

I have been here quite a few times, but lately it has been appalling. On the last two visits I got the standard pedicure. Both times I was in and out in 15-20 mins with a crappy pedicure that chipped off with a few days. I think she had my feet soaking for at least 30 seconds before she started to cut my toe nails ten different ways, nary a straight one on both feet. First time visit was for a mani. Second time for a pedi. Young lady was rough and & I had to ask her to be more gentle. When she directed me to the area to dry, the cotton between my toes caused minor damage. She sat me in the closest chair to repair. This happened twice. Sometime later I asked another employee if it was okay for me to leave. At first she ignored me then I asked her again if she would remove the cotton as I did not want to damage the nail polish. With attitude she did so. So rude. Honestly, I would like to find a salon where employees take pride in their work and where I am made not to feel like an imposition. read more

Pedicure was good, but I was very disappointed with the fill I received. He did a horrible job with my fill. It looks as though he smudged it before painting it. They are bumpy and looks like I tried to do them myself. I will not be coming here again, it was expensive for the awful job that was done. read more

Terrible service; I was rushed to pick a color and when I asked a question regarding matching my nails and toes they weren't able to help, you could sense the aggravation from the sighs I was getting. The pedicure chair arms didn't go up and I had to literally climb into the chair; they didn't offer to help. They Clipped my skin on my big toe; dirty hands of the male who was working on my feet; left in disgust and they wanted to charge me the full price of a pedicure in which my feet soaked and nail polish was taken off. Star nails is an amazing place to get your nails done. I have no complaints. They massage your legs and hands really well. The person who did my nails was named Susan and she did an amazing job and if you come here you should ask for Susan. I did not have a good experience here years ago but being the only nail salon in the area open on Sunday I decided to give them another shot. When I walked in the receptionist was very friendly and welcoming. Since I walked in I had to wait about 45 minutes until the people with appointments were done-understandable! Next time I'll call ahead. Kevin did my manicure and he is very skilled. He did not talk but I don't like small talk anyway. The gel manicure included some hand massaging as well as neck/upper back massaging. The hand massaging is normal (I think) for a manicure anywhere but this seemed excessive. First he used a scrub then plastic gloves filled with lotion and then towels. It was a lot of rubbing. I did not enjoy the neck/back massage. Im sure others love it but I don't want to get my nails done and get a back massage out of it. It was awkward and there was no way I could relax while he did it. I was waiting with a friend who was having a manicure and I decided to get a 30 minute chair massage. I have had massages all over the country and this was one of the best! Definitely the best ever done in the chair setting. The masseuse was David and he filled the 30 minutes with many different techniques, lots of pressure so as to be effective, and attention to the areas that needed it the most. I feel like a million dollars and am so glad I happened to be here when he was working. I wish I lived in this area, but will back each year when we are here in the summer. I really, honestly try to paint my own nails. But without fail, everytime, I end up with a mess so terrible on my fingers that it looks like someone ripped off my nails with a pair of plyers and I starting bleeding hot pink (or some variation thereof) blood. So, after yet another failed attempt at nail artistry, I decided to stop in Star Nails on my way home for some damage control. As I'd been meaning to get my eyebrows waxed, I had that done too. $16 without tip is a fabulous deal for a light manicure (basic cuticle and nail care with polish) and a great waxing job. The manicure wasn't the best I've ever had, hence the subtraction of a star, but the eyebrow wax was wonderful! I also saw that they do brazillian waxes-- for 40 bucks! That's unheard of! I almost sprung for it, but (and I have nothing against asian people) I thought that with a woman all up in your stuff, a communication barrier could be disasterous-- and there CERTAINLY was a communication barrier-- so I thought I'd wait and go into Newport for my 55 dollar(ugh) wax job. Anyway, that aside, great place. Big, clean, sterile, and it was really busy when I first got in there. Looks like they have a lot of customers! I love this place. Today I went in for a gel manicure, I did not have an appointment. I came in right as they were getting busy, they gave me a comfortable seat and asked me to pick my color. I waited a bit, as it was very busy, but as soon as he could, the nail technician James came over to start my nails. As he was working, a woman came in who had made a reservation for 4pm with James, he apologized that he would have to have someone else finish my manicure. Quickly, Angel came over to pick up right where James left off. She did a wonderful job. She took her time while painting my nails, they look pristine! While I was waiting for the gel to harden under the lights Angel gave me a wonderful, short massage. I didn't realize how bad I needed a shoulder massage until she started massaging! Also, as part of a regular manicure, they use a paraffin wax treatment to soften and hydrate your hands. It smells heavenly and it works wonders! I will absolutely be back to this place!
