Unsanitary and untrained staff. Walked in for a basic mani. I was in and out in 10 min. Tech was rude and wanted no part of providing nail service. She filed my nails, never soaked them or cleaned underneath, never used any cream/oil to soften cuticles. Used a dirty nail file to push my cuticles back and proceeded to cut them causing cuts, nicks and bleeding all over my nail bed. I told receptionist I was not happy and to refund my card she said she would. I called back 2 days later and charge still has not been removed. Was told owner would contact me and never did. Avoid this salon at all costs. There's a reason it has the rating it does and was able to walk in last min on a Saturday afternoon to an empty salon. read more

Star nails of Newport and Middletown are a great example of rudeness, poor quality, disinterest and worst yet unsanitary conditions! The owners don't care, and the general nasty culture/attitude is prevalent amongst all technicians I agree with all the negative reviews I've seen. Never a smile and never any interest in customer service. Impossible to discuss customer requests /complaints due to very little English spoken in the salon. If you watch closely you will see highly unsanitary use of tools, materials etc. I know of a couple of infections gotten there as well. Stay away! read more

Came in for a mani-pedi and was told to wait up to 15 minutes, which is totally cool and normal. So I pick out a color and wait. Meanwhile a couple of other girls come in and ask for pedicures. They're told to wait 15 minutes but then two minutes later are called back for their pedicures. Meanwhile, 25 minutes after I came in, I'm still sitting there waiting. Finally I'm told to sit in a manicure seat and someone comes to take care of me, but then I'm told the colOr I picked out is "long lasting" and will cost me an extra $5 to use. The lady tried to scam me in the beginning, listing off all these up charges then told me its $10 extra for the shape in the picture i showed her. It was literally just round. I said what? I then showed her the price on the app. After doing my red dip, all the powder got all over my fingers. Instead of having me wash them, she massaged the lotion into my hands with the red powder. She then says "you're all set" as my finger's are COVERED in red powder. I then go over to the sink to scrub. Some of which I could not get off. One nail is much longer than the others. This lady did not give a crap about doing my nails. They look terrible!!! The "massages" should be eliminated because they are awful- just rubbing a plastic bag on you for 3 minutes- no pressure or structure to the massage. I used to go here all the time. If you're looking for a good place to get a full set of poly gel nails come here! I've been going to this nail salon for about 2 years now and they NEVER disappoint. During covid when businesses started opening back up I was a bit skeptical about going out and getting my nails done but when I got there they followed all the guidelines. Wish I could give zero stars!! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE AND WAY OVERPRICED!! Went in for dip powder manicure with tips and the guy I had did an awful job!! It's an extra $15 to have almond shaped nails which no one told me until after they did the shaping and no base coat for powder done at all! Three of my nails broke within a DAY of getting them done! Worst experience ever and Im never going back again. Employees were extremely rude and constantly on phones. It was a huge waste of $80 and I cannot believe it was $80 for a MANICURE! I loathe getting my nails done at Star Nails. It doesn't even deserve the 1 star. The technicians and desk workers are indifferent and insolent to the point of being incredibly rude. They never greet you or ask you how you want your nails done (like clipping, shaping or cutting cuticles). The only thing going for it is the convenience. It used to be very clean and now that the pandemic is over, it seems like they don't try very hard to keep the area and the nail toolkits clean. Gina and the men are the worst but in 5 years, I've never left there in a good mood. I had a terrible experience here. No one was friendly and they treated my requests (color, design, shape, etc) like a joke and acted like I was high maintenance for simple requests. They literally laughed in my face multiple times. They kept saying that they didn't have time to do things when they took my appointment two hours before close. They were so eager to leave that even 30 minutes before close they were already mopping around my chair. They severely up charged me $28 for a simple French tip design. I normally have a great experience at all other star nails locations. Went in after Christmas. Tech was rushing. Use the callas remover and some got onto the bag and on the top of my foot. Told her it was burning and she said it was probably from my sock and boot when I walked in and continued to rush through. Did not take responsibility for the chemical burn that happened because of their products. Now I have a nasty, unattractive scar. I'm only giving them them "generous" 3 stars because they seem to be super clean and you get a 3 minute neck massage after a pedi. I feel like it was a rat race here! Melody did my pedicure and I was in and out of here in no time. I mean no time to relax here! I got snapped at by her over and over. If I didn't have my feet exactly where she wanted them she'd raise her voice at me. I felt like a child. When she put on my shoes I asked her to buckle the buckle on the first hole. She buckled the last hole and I moved the buckle. I got snapped at - she said, "no that's the last hole, I had it on the first one". Jesus! Really!! They won't get your dead skin off the bottom of your feet here. Seriously. I hear you have to pay extra! What???? They scrub for 30 seconds. Isn't that one of the MAJOR reasons you come for a pedi? What are you paying $30? To paint, file and trim your cuticles? I can do that at at home! If you are in a hurry definitely come here! I don't recommend this salon for the Dip manicure. I paid $45.00 for 5 of my nails to break in 4 days. Unacceptable. I called the salon to see if they could do anything for me such as a gift card or anything because i do not live local to there. I called twice and both times they said they would call me back and never did I ended up going to my usual salon 4 days after being at star nails and spa to get my 3 nails fixed that broke first, then the other 2 nails broke the next day. I don't think that one star is low enough. I paid $70 dollars for a dip manicure and when it was first done I thought my nails looked really good and that this would become my new nail spot. But.. not 24 hours later one of my nails had chipped completely off and a few days after a couple of them were almost gone. Not only was the dip gone, my nails underneath were ruined and completely ripped up. When I called to ask what could be done they had a poor attitude and told us we could come in to fix them but no refund was possible. Will not be going back. read more

I have been here on and off for 4 years. not consistent in great service but my last visit last week - I got a guy to do my pedicure. He was so nice and im 8 months pregnant - his massage was everything to me. He knew exactly where not to massage (between ankle and heel can cause contractions) so he told me that and did a great job, i was in heaven! He also told me my son would be born in the year of the dog, great conversation. Nails were done very well and my massage while my nails dried also - heaven. He was very nice and patient. I was also able to make an appt online a few hours before which was great! parking right outside the location. Looking forward to going back to this place. The other week I got extensions at Star Nails on Bellevue and one of my nails broke the day after I got them done. After getting the one fixed the next day, 4 more nails proceeded to break within 6 days after getting them done. I went again and made sure I had a different nail tech and she didn't push back my cuticles, file off my dead skin, or use cuticle oil and my nails look grown out after just having them done. I came here to get my wedding nails done, because it was the only place I could find that was open on a Sunday. I had little time, so instead of getting a new set with white tips, I asked for a fill with white gel polish. Usually a fill takes about 45mins where I go in San Diego. I was still getting the fill an hour and a half later... At this point I had other things to so to start getting ready and it made my whole day run late. I was having a wedding, so my phone was going off non stop with texts.. Usually its not a big deal if I use my hand thats free, to type with, and give my other hand when asked(keeping that hand still and relaxed like they need it to be of course). I was being polite, and giving him the hand he needed, although Every Time I used my phone, the guy would shake his head and yank my hand really hard. He kept rolling his eyes at me, and was rude, and when I asked about the process in which they do a fill... he got up and left. Its the weirdest thing ever. Ive been to so many nail places in my life but never had I experienced this. Instead of using powder and a brush, they dip your hand in a powder, than they put about 3 layers of super glue on. What the ?!?! Than Step one and repeat. My nails are made up with about 90% superglue. Im sorry but that is just weird. They look terrible, and it doesn't seem healthy. Anyway a different lady took the guys place, because he was being so rude, and she finished my fill and gel paint. After just 1 day, the gel was already chipping off my fingers. Perfect for my Wedding right? Well I didn't have time to go anywhere else to get it fixed, so I just dealt with it. Very nice and clean salon. Employees were friendly and accommodating. I paid $79 for a spa pedicure and the 20 minute included massage was basically non-existent. The employee set the timer and lightly grazed my feet, ankles, and calves for 20 minutes. It was honestly insulting as he put it no effort whatsoever. He spent the entire 20 minutes chatting with colleagues and did not ask how the massage was once. Will never return. What a waste of $79 and the tip I gave him. Go somewhere else. I asked for a fill, mentioned I had acrylic with gel polish. During fill, under UV lights, I was burned. Salon receptionist Linda said it always burns the 1st time with UV nails. What is UV nails? I've been here a couple of times and the real problem happened when I needed a new set of gel nails. The first guy passed me off to someone who supposedly could do it. After one coat of gel I was "done" and sent on my way. After one week two nails broke. I won't be going back.
