I try not to give bad reviews to businesses. Especially small businesses. So I'll start with the positive. The people there are very friendly and it seems a lot of regulars come in. I finally talked my husband into getting a mani pedi (it was very hard ladies) so I was a bit disappointed that his first experience was on Thames Street in Newport (surprised? Me too!). The pedicure chairs are very old, they have puddy holding some of the jets in (gross). They also reuse the foot scrubbers and brushes (gag). They don't put plastic inserts into the foot baths either. Which feels like an infection waiting to happen. I thought about leaving but stayed for reasons I don't understand yet. Too nice maybe? Anywho, skip this place until it gets some updates. My daughter got a pedicure and the person doing her nails, barely scrubbed her foot and not to mention that the nail polish looks like it was applied by a two-year-old who was blindfolded. Polish was Smudged all over the place and not an even coat on any of the toenails. Awful! I would never recommend. It took 20 min past my appointment time for someone to start the service. I thought it was because they were busy but there were technicians not doing anything other than being on their phone. As for the service, my gel manicure lasted 1 week before it started peeling off. Oh, it was already chipping on day 3. I've never had gel mani that lasted this short of a duration. This was the worst manicure I've had in years. I made an appointment, they made me wait 25 min despite me calling ahead. When I asked if they would be able to honor my appointment on time or shortly, they indicated sure, and I waited another 10 min. I should have walked out. The tech did such a sloppy job, cut deep into my cuticle I bled for hours after and no apologies offered. To add insult to injury, the gel polish she applied was so sloppy and rushed because at that stage they clearly didn't care. Not a chance on earth I would come back and I live here full time. Save your money and time, this place should be shut down. The health department should do a current investigation, this place is waiting for a problem. Even worse, a nail just chipped. Great experience here! The salons closer to my hotel all had a multi hour wait, and i found this gem who could take me immediately. The woman handling the business and giving manicures was so nice and professional, and the man on staff gave an amazingg pedicure and extra massage at the end ($). First let me say the positives..I really did have a wonderful time getting my nails done here. I was getting a mani and pedi for my wedding the next day and everyone joined me in my excitement, helped me pick colors, were patient and kind and gentle. And I LOVED how my nails came out! BUT. I have had acrylics many many times before and this has been the worst time. Within just THREE DAYS, they were starting to detach on the end closest to your nail bed!!! Three days!! That usually doesn't happen for at least 2 weeks and even then it may only happen to one or two nails. Every single nail is like this now. I can't put my own hair up or run my fingers through my hair without it catching under the nail and ripping hair out. My (new) husband just had to put my hair in a ponytail for me today. Keep in mind it has been only one week. I'm really disappointed...if you just want your nails painted I'm sure it would be great. Like I said, they were all very kind and my toes came out great! But if you want acrylics, go somewhere else. read more

Worst set of nails. Got dip and they are sooo thick. She also didn't remove my previous color good enough so it shows through around d the edges. Then when she applied the top coats she was sloppy and got it all over my cuticle so it lifted and my hair is getting stuck on them like I need a fill. Should have just kept my broken nails. Deon was the pedicure guru who took care of me last night -- absolutely terrific service. She was so friendly and solicitous -- a breath of fresh air during my search for a new nail place in Newport! She struck that perfect balance between conversation and quiet, and gladly dished on the local sights. Plus, she was completely receptive to any and all feedback! (You have to admit: most nail techs just DO ... they've got their routines, and they're not really looking for genuine feedback.) And for context: I called Angel Nails on Broadway and Star Nails on Bellevue to see if they could take a same day walk-in. The women who picked up the phone at both places were SO INCREDIBLY UNFRIENDLY -- even though they both said "yes" -- there was no way I'd feel comfortable letting them near my exposed feet. When I called Angel on Thames, though ... the girl who picked up the phone sound friendly, alert, helpful -- even happy! The choice was easy to make at that point.) And have you ever had a pedicure so awesome, you can't help but continue to look down and marvel at the national treasure you're rocking? Like, you want to charge admission for people to come and look at your now-so-cute feet? THAT'S WHAT DEON GAVE ME! With the paraffin heel treatment, it was just a little more expensive than I'm used to: $45 total, with the Deluxe treatment (scrub/massage/hot rock treatment/hot paraffin wax). But ... the service was so diligent and detail-oriented, I thought it was money very well spent when I walked out. Keep up the fantastic work, ladies! read more

My last pedi in Newport left me scarred...literally I can show you the spot on my left leg where the leg massage left me with a chemical burn..YIKES! Soooo due to lack of planning again I found myself desiring a pedicure but was in a right now not tomorrow kind of mood. So I walked down to Lower Thames to see what I would find... I noticed they have a very poor selection of OPI -- it was one of those I should have brought my own color with me kind of moments...not wanting to say hey, your selection sucks I chose an electric blue color and was seated. The technician started ripping my cuticles apart wayyyyyy too early into the foot soak, I asked her to go gently because of a few banged up toes, and she obliged...but my first couple of toes felt like they were being assaulted and not pampered. I didn't like how the woman who started my pedi, passed me off to one of the older gentleman who I didn't even think worked there for my foot and leg massage...he then began painting my toes. He did an excellent job...that man was meticulous when it came to painting the piggies, and he did an excellent job finishing them up. Overall I can't say i'd go back, but for $25 it was worth the money -- I hope mr. foot rub was the one who got the $5.00 tip! read more

In desperate need of a pedicure, my girlfriend and I found this little mom and pop shop off of lower Thames (literally mom and pop). The place was small and cozy, its not your "spa" like atmosphere but that didn't matter... because the nice couple who works there were extremely nice. Henry did my pedicure - OMG, this guy is like the pedicure guru. He was so thorough and gave me a wonderful massage that made me go, "Oh, Henry!" Ok, I didn't but I did think about that candy. If you're in town and need a great foot massage, Henry is your guy. Jenny did my manicure. She's the daughter of the couple (family business). She works fast but is diligent. Polishes very well too. She told me that she's seasonal.. She is usually working during the summer months only. My friend had the mother, Lee working on her. She's adorable. Apparently Lee is the master of acrylics because my girlfriend's nails came out fantastic! We also learned that Lee does hair too! I guess its convenient when you need your hair and nails done. Awful experience!! Very unorganized, we had an appointments along with everyone else who showed up and they had no idea. Three people working and only one (the youngest) seem to know what she was sort of doing. I received the worst pedicure ever no massage nothing it was basically an overpriced color change. My daughter got a dip manicure the only girl that saw that seem to know what she was doing was unsure. My daughter received a dip manicure and then they went on to do a Gel manicure which took well over an hour & a 1/2. People kept coming in with appointments and they had no idea. Extremely dirty. Myself and another person both had pedicures they never cleaned the tubs after. I sat there for well over an hour and watched. No one seemed to know pricing. I have never written a negative review before but I didn't want anyone to go through what we went through. It was honestly the worst experience. read more

The ladies were amazing. I got a thorough foot/ leg massage. They cleaned up my cuticles and shaped my nails very nice. I feel like I got a great value for the service I received. Vacationers/students BEWARE. Walked out with thick, blotchy, streaked light pink gel nails. Embarrassing on their part that they let a customer leave reflecting their work. I recently got a pedicure here. I'm extremely disappointed because the nail tech cut my toes way too short and also cut the nail corners of my big toes. She even cut up the skin around my big toes. The skin is bright pink and swollen. Now I'm in pain and can not wear closed toe shoes for the next few days and have to worry about growing in grown nails. The tech was also pretty rude and when I left didn't even acknowledge me when I said thank you and tipped 18%. I'm never going back. Definitely don't recommend. read more
