My mother and I had been going to this nail place roughly from 1995 through 2011 when they opened the new building next to the 100 sq foot shack they had previously. The reason I stopped going.... The last days I visited this establishment I brought my daughter and niece to get mani & Pedi's with me (which I did often both 10-11yrs old at the time) and decided to drop them off at the door because it was raining and I told them to go pick out their colors. It took me less than 2 minutes to find street parking. As soon as I walk in Lee (the owner) points at the sign on her wall that says kids must be accompanied by an adult. I just shake my head and say ok. We pick out our colors and start with the pampering and all of get a nail tech and we are the only customers currently. All is well until it is time to paint the girls' nails'.... The girls decide that they want three different colors alternating on their hands and feet. Lee comes over and tells me that since it takes so much time that it will be an additional $10 per child, $5 for hands and $5 for feet so that is $20 additional dollars. (Mind you one of them had already started painting one of the girls AND Lee was NOT doing any of our nails)....did I mention WE WERE THE ONLY CUSTOMERS IN THERE!!! I said you know what, I don't understand how you feel you can charge additional because they want alternating colors but it you decide to charge me for this I will NEVER return to your business again. When we were all finished with our service Lee met me at the register, charged me an additional $20 and said "I will see you soon". HA!! I said, "No you will NEVER see me in here again". If my recollection is correct I even want to say she said something to the effect of having to pay for her new salon when she charged me. Th first time I went was two years ago and I went recently. I had my first acrylic nails two years ago and I kinda liked how they turned out. Even though some of my fingers bled but i liked the results. The price for full set was about 30 and this time I went it was 40 for a new set and it was 45 including tips. I was bumped how I didn't get lotion and massage and my friend next to me got both. She didn't even pay as much because she didn't do acrylic. This time, my thumb bled again. The nail tech probably forgot about it and pressed on it super hard later on!!! The nail polish was very uneven and she didn't shape my nails right. They were unevenly shaped and some looked rounder and some were more square. They also didn't have colors I wanted. read more

Got a pedicure here and they used a grater type tool instead of a normal pumice stone (without asking). The side of my foot got sliced. Hopefully it doesn't get infected. Definitely won't go back. If you do go - make sure you ask them not to use the grater tool! read more

Fantastic south end nail salon. I had a manicure and pedicure and felt so pampered and well treated. My feet were in terrible shape and they left them looking beautiful! Large, clean space with plenty of staff. Pedicure included a scrub, lotion, massage and hit towels. Manicure did as well. Coupled with the massaging spa chairs I was ready for a nap by the end! Star Nails experience is like vacationing in a chair. Just walking in the door, you are greeted with a smile. The service is wonderful. From the massage chair, that takes you to another level, to the hand, arm, feet, and leg massages. I walked out of there feeling like I had new feet and legs. Wow! It took retirement for me to find paradise, and I didn't even have to leave town. Everyone there is professional. The facility is very clean, spacious, and the staff are calm and thorough. The price, can't beat it! I've introduced others to them and they were also very pleased. Star Nails is the only place I will go, now that I know the joy of a pedicure and manicure. This nail salon is one of the best I have been to. I got a pedicure and the massage chairs and the foot massage feels really good and very relaxing. I also told one of the workers that the water was too hot and they adjusted it for me. They're all really nice workers and I would love to come back next time! They did a very good job! read more

Just a hop-skip-and-a-jump away from my house. The location is very spacious and decorated to have that fancy spa feeling. They do nails, waxing, facials, eyelash extensions, and maybe some other services. It has always been clean every time I have gone, though they could use a magazine rack instead of stacking them up on the coffee table. There are loads of nail techs and I've not had to wait very long. I've mostly had pedicures here. First and foremost, I always see them clean the tubs after people are done, so that's a great thing. I'm always a little suspect about the buffing pads and utensils though. You never see them come out of the autoclave or fungicide solution. They do a pretty good job, though some techs are more gentle than others. I have had one actually cut the skin on my toe, though to be fair I did ask that they try to dig out an ingrown toenail. They definitely work to get rid of the dead skin. And the leg massage is very nice and they don't rush through it. They do charge an extra dollar if you don't pay with cash. read more

I come here to occasionally get my eyebrows and nails done. The service is great and the ambiance is very clean and relaxing. The people who work here are are very hard working and kind, usually do a great job as well with massage and all. I want to give 5 Stars, but I simply cannot. Star Nails is pricey compared to other nail shops that I go to in the area which i am fine with and will pay the extra. I even tip alittle on top because of the good service, which I have never done at any salon. I have been coming to Star for 2 years but recently the owner has scolded me about the amount that I tip. She's done it twice and I think that is plain rude. The sign says "Tips Appreciated" not "Tips Mandatory". I have no problem throwing in extra but I think that it is unfair to be scolded about the amount extra, especially when price of service is already increased. This is a great place for a pedicure. Cute space, really nice people, and they give a really nice massage. Their shellac manicures however do not last. Two days tops before they start peeling. I'm guessing they don't let the paint cure long enough or perhaps the lamps aren't strong enough. Not sure, but very disappointing! read more

just another disrespectful overpriced vietnamese shop.they charge too much for the crappy jobs. eyebrows are ok if you go to the one lady there thats good at them. they were a little better before they moved into the new shop. they are always talking in their language, always have their music going so its slightly uncomfortable to begin with. my most recent visit was for eyebrows. they had grown out significantly so i needed them waxed. the lady kept talking to her friend in vietnamese and after a while she said she was done. she was LAUGHING with her friend and when i saw my eyebrows i understood why. they did not match AT ALL, the inner/front edge of my right one was even shorter than the other, i looked like a freak. if i hadnt been having the best day ever (just bought a new car) she would have gotten cursed out soooooo severely for laughing at the horrendous job she did. needless to say im never going back. read more

This place is really nice, But when your getting your nails done they are always switching person, So one person starts out doing your nails then another person then another person. I had been going to Star Nails for a couple of years. I really loved the fact that the owner did eyebrows better than I had ever had before. Well after she moved into the new shop she raised the price up to $ 12.00, I did not mind that either. The last straw for me and 1 star rating comes from how the owner Lee and his wife do business. I only choose to get my eyebrow done there and for that reason she often makes me wait longer. She takes people out of order depending on how much money you spend. I called her on it and she acted as if she did not know what I was talking about. I waited one time while she took two other people and acted like she did not see me. Mind you I tip $5-$8 dollars.
