Last January, I had acrylic gel nails abs it came out beautiful. Today I , February 22, I went back and did dip powder nails . I loved both type of nails . The place is clean and the staff is friendly . Plenty of seats . The music ambiance is awesome . Frank Sinatra and Andrea Bocelli for today. At the wide flat tv, I watched a random food tv show , how donuts are made .( and if you need a donut / coffee, across the street there is a DD.) I definitely recommend this place. I have been going to Star Nails for a few years now. I typically get the dip mani standard pedi or just the dip mani. I have had Hannah, Julie, and Belle all do my nails and my daughters. Hannah is great when I take my 8 year old in for her Mani's as she always adds a little flower or stars something special. Belle is very gentle so if you are sensitive she is perfect. Julie is my favorite she has amazing attention to detail and a gentle touch. On the rare occasion that one of my nails breaks after only a few days I know I can always go back and they will take care of it. Recently I splurged and did eyelash extensions. I LOVE the eyelash extensions. Mai did an amazing job They have lasted and look great even two weeks later they look like the day they were done. When I walk into Star Nails I am always greeted with a smile. . They are CASH ONLY. I am new in town and happen to pass this salon a lot so I figured I would stop in and see how they fair. They are GREAT! I have been in twice so far, both for Gel manicures and a pedicure. I can't remember the girl who did my nails the first time, Carol i think, such a great girl! Everyone in the salon was very friendly. I went in just this week for a mani/pedi with Calvin, who was friendly as well. The wait time was minimal, but it does get busy around 3ish, so call ahead. The pricing is a little on the expensive side, but I think worth it for a clean and friendly atmosphere. Oh and PS, cash only...there is an ATM there if you get in a pinch (like me! eekk!) Love this place for several reasons: 1.) They are easy to get to. Rather than fight the traffic on Rt. 1, this is an easy destination for East Boston/Revere people. 2.) Not particularly impressed. The chair was comfy and the polish I chose was very pretty but on one of my toes she did a 3rd later and it made it chunky and she didn't even try to redo it. They also didn't paint a top coat on my toes so that was weird ... Started chipping after a week and normally my pedis don't chip .. For like many weeks. At least the AC was good so it was very cool in there. I probably will not return. I want my pedi to last longer and it normally does at other places. read more

I got super excited about this place because this is where I got introduced to Dip Silk Powder. My first time Nikki did my nails and she was super kind. Second time crystal did my nails because Nikki was out. She did a great job also. 3rd time and LAST time neither one was working- Nikki is no longer working for them. So I decided to go with whom ever was available. Hannah starts to do my nails-sweet/friendly woman. I asked her to cut my "real nails" and I'm not sure if there was a language barrier but she starts to cut down on the *Dip-silk powder that I had gotten few weeks back. Given My nails underneath are growing- I specially requested a "ReFill dip silk powder " and one nail that broke off(single nail repair according to the pricing board is $3) fast forward in the end I was asked to pay 40$ . My nails underneath never got cut. I did not apply a new set of dip-silk powder like I usually did in the past. But still paid the price. When I walked out it dawned on me that the menu said $25 for the refill. So I returned to ask for clarity and request for some of my money to be returned. One of the worker-who speaks English more clearly explained to me that they Do Not go by the menu. False advertisement?! Okay that's fine. I asked about why I have to pay the same as someone who's getting a new set--and she said it's because they haven't fixed it yet. Again. False Advertisement. Long story short I didn't have a problem paying the money if everything I requested was done. I now have to go get a refill in a week somewhere else. Just disappointed. Really thought I found my new spot. I work hard for my money the same way each worker in this place does. My only request going forward is STOP FALSE ADVERTISING. Let your customers know the price. For ALL Future customers who HATES getting F***ed with ask for PRICING IN ADVANCE. Enjoy my last 45$. False advertising is ILLEGAL! read more

Being a somewhat stereotypical male, I have never done any fancy body maintenance before (I've even been cutting my own hair for close to 10 years). However, I was talking with my roommate one day and jokingly said "well, I guess I would get a pedicure at some time in my life, just to try it out and see what all the fuss is about. I just wouldn't ever go try it on my own", to which she said "lets go right now then!" So we went to Star, where she has gone many times, and they staff got me in right away. I sat in a massage chair (not sure if these are standard?) and soaked my feet for a while, which was admittedly relaxing. The woman who did my pedicure seemed to be very thorough and it was completely painless (I have borderline ingrown nails on my big toes the way they grow in the corners, and I always seem to cause pain or damage when clipping them myself). The whole process was very smooth and easy, and the finished job looked (and felt) way better than what I can do, and I was left without nagging pain in the corners of my big toes. For $23, I felt that the price was very reasonable, and I may actually plan on going once a month to save myself the time (and aggravation) of doing it myself. They also gave a foot/calf massage which was relaxing too. read more

This place is really close to my home, and I thought it would become one of my fav nail places. I gave it couple of tries, but I just got more disappointed. First of all, even if you make an appointment with them, you will still have to wait for additional 15 min until they have somebody available for you. Don't get surprised when in the middle of your mani-pedi, your nail technician will leave you to take care of another customer (while they do so, I never saw them washing their hands or changing the gloves!). They seem to rush all the time, therefore, your nails will most likely come out not so great. Lastly, it's CASH ONLY place. read more

Won't go back. Ever. Got my nails done for my wedding. Picture of what I asked for on the left, the result on the right. Embarrassing. And this cost me $70. This is after I asked this nail to be redone because it was all streaky- he said the streaks were fine and looked like a "design"...clearly aggravated, didn't want to redo it. Two stars for the cleanliness, and the fact that we didn't have to wait long, even though we were walk-ins, but my pedicure was disappointing. I wanted this to be better since I've been looking for a place around this area to go for a mani/pedi when I visit family, but it was just blah. My tech. was nice, but didn't spend much time on my cuticles, and couldn't really seem to spare the effort to actually scrub my feet- it felt more like a weak scratch. I decided to get the paraffin treatment and she tried to question whether I actually wanted it. I did, and it was clear she was a little annoyed. When it came to the polish, she decided not to use seperaters for my toes, and slapped on the base coat. The color looked like it came out ok in the salon, but when I got home, it's clear that because she missed half of each toe with the base coat, the color dried sloppy (streaky, bumpy, bubbly, etc.). I might give them one more try, but will be on the lookout for a new place. read more

The thing about star nails is...that I WANTED to like it here. I have heard so many good things about the place and my fave salon is often mobbed. I was hoping to find a safety salon in Star Nails. Nope. After hearing rave reviews I presume that I am either really slow on the uptake or I'm just plain missing something. They pressure you to upsell. Even my 9 year old was pressured into a gel mani! Thankfully, she resisted. They also herd the clients in and out of here like cattle. None of the drying time and extra TLC that I get at Tokyo Nails. The sole good point? They stay open late if you need them to and they're seldom crowded. Problem is, why go when your nails will be a smudged mess when you get to your car? read more

I go every 2 weeks for a fill throughout the year and once a month for a pedicure May - September (less often in the winter). Mai and Mike are lovely and always willing to offer advice. HORRIBLE - THE OWNER IS THE RUDEST PERSON IN THE WORLD!! I walked in Saturday night hoping for a relaxing pedicure. I recently had a baby so it kinda a big deal to get out and do something for yourself. They seemed nice enough when I walked in, clean, lots of colors to pick from - sadly it was the worst experience! The minute I sat down I knew the girl I had was new and DID NOT know what she was doing. I understand being new but she really shouldn't have been allowed on the floor. She cut my nails a crocked, did not even know how to push back my cuticles or cut them. I asked her to stop and ask someone for help. The owner was seating right there but did not come over till I had to ask a second time to get someone else. He did not even look at me and barely asked what the problem was, He just grabbed my foot and started fixing the mess! I SHOULD HAVE WALKED OUT THE MINUTE HE GRABBED MY FOOT! When he finished and all he said - she will finish, she can paint your nails. I asked - are you sure she can paint nails. He said yes, still not even making eye contact. (He then went back to his conversation about his Mercedes Benz!) She started painting my nails and literally nail polish starting dripping down my foot onto my shoe yet she continued to try and paint my toes leaving the nail polish everywhere. I had to ask her to STOP again. The owner is still right there - never came back over!! A VERY NICE girl then came over and fixed my polish. She could see how upset I was and was very apologetic. She even asked if I wanted a manicure on her. Upon walking out - the owner was sitting right there STILL do not say anything to me! THAT IS WHY I AM WRITING THIS REVIEW. Star Nails is so rude; whereas Kim is so warm and personable. Star is all about the money $ get 'em in, get 'em out. I've been going here since I moved to Winthrop three years ago. This new location is beautiful and super close to my apartment! Mai and Laura are amazing and I highly recommend them. Prices are cheap for a fill ($15) and they take their time. I'm always getting compliments on my nails. I recently went to a new place with a friend and the guy messed up my nails terribly. I came here and one of the newer girls fixed my 6 (yes, six!) broken nails as well as re-did the fill and polish for a total of...$18!! The best nail salon I have ever been to. They do a fantastic job at nails, especially the owners. They also do a great job with facials and eyebrow waxing. Most importantly though, its a great atmosphere. They are so friendly and kind. The pedicure chairs are big beautiful leather chairs that massage and not just the massage add ons that a lot of salons have. They also have a huge screen TV and are always showing brand new movies.
