I wrote a review 9 months ago and my nails are still fortunately still as damaged and brittle as they were when I went to this salon 2.5 years ago. The owner shaved off the top layer of all 10 of my nails and they have never recovered. Never in a million years would I recommend this place to anyone. Do not go to this salon. I really wanted to love this place based on the reviews. I was the only person in the salon and was greeted immediately, seated in a beautiful pedicure chair and asked to pick colors. It was October so I wanted spooky vibes, but it was also right before a trip to Disney World so I wanted a cute but simple Mickey design. Lynn told me the design would be no problem, then asks what type of pedicure I want. The least expensive being $38 and the most in the $60ish range. That's when I got a little concerned since the last mani/pedi I got in town was $65 total for gel. The pedi was fantastic but then Lynn says her husband will do my mani as someone else walked into the salon. I show a basic design to her husband. He polishes my nails in a very haphazard sort of way. When I point out that he has missed entire sections of my nails, he tells me that's just his first run and he will cover on his 2nd and 3rd pass. Now I've been getting professional manicures monthly for 25 years. This is definitely NOT the norm. When I really got concerned was when he struggled to hand paint a mickey head. It's literally a medium circle with 2 small circles for ears. Yet he really really struggled. Then Lynn remembers she has Disney stickers and finds some Mickey stickers he can just place on my nails and cover with top coat. Mind you, at this point we've been struggling with my manicure for over an hour, so I say put the stickers on and let me leave. After about 2.5 hours I'm ready to pay and the total comes to OVER ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS. For a good pedicure and a VERY mediocre manicure. Flabbergasted. I will not return here. I'm glad people have had such great experiences, but I can't see myself giving them a 2nd chance. read more

Lynn is the best-- I've been a client of hers for over 3 years and her business has been a cornerstone of the Winthrop community for over 20! The salon is simple and clean and I get comments all the time about how amazing my nails look (dip)-- she's a perfectionist! She is always willing to help fix a nail if it chips or cracks (I'm pretty tough on my hands so I've called her with 911 requests way too frequently). She is positive, kind, and really cares about her clients and making people happy. She remembers everything and everyone and is just as happy to chat away with you as to have a quiet appointment if that's what you need. She is also incredibly thoughtful about the health of her clients' nails. I've had terrible experiences in the past with gel and acrylic nails and she always prioritizes nail strength and will tell me if she thinks my nails could use a break. She is so flexible with scheduling and will do whatever she can to accommodate, even when I've had to make last minute cancellations. The woman literally does not stop working-- if you're reading this, Lynn: take a break! If you're new in the area and want someone who is thorough, thoughtful, and dependable, choose Lynn! There is a clear reason why her clients are so loyal to her-- you get out of the world what you put into it. read more

Winthrop is full of nail salons. Unusual for such a small town! Tokyo is the best by far! They take their time and get the work done right. I don't come out of there smudged, uneven, or with my nails wet. They truly want your nails done right! Other salons shuffle the customers in and out as fast as possible. Obviously more customers means more money. Here they give you time at the dryers and uv station to let your polish set and dry and they don't rush the process. Does it take a bit longer? Yes, sometimes. Is it worth it? ALWAYS :) The affordable price is another reason to stop in. All in all a great place to have your nails done when perfection matters. read more

I'm a guy and I very seldom get manicures. But even I know that you shouldn't have cuticle on your nail after the manicure is done.

I recently moved from Winthrop, but for the 4 years I lived there this was my go-to nail salon. Always had great service and if I called ahead for an appointment they got me in right away. Pedicures were very thorough and relaxing, and the majority of the time I got cnd shellac nails. They always looked great and there's a large selection of colors to choose from. I have been going there for 3 years now, and they really do a great job! They were even able to accommodate my wedding party. I would definitely recommend them. I have tried many nail salons in Boston, malls and Winthrop and this is my favorite. It is clean, calm and professional. Lynne the owner does a wonderful mani pedi. The price is right! It's a little higher than some but MUCH less than high end salons and the service is as good. read more

I do not consistently get my nails done. I have never been a girl who pampered herself. So when I go to a salon I am pretty fussy. I usually just indulge in a pedicure in the summer months or if I vacation in the winter months. I have experienced several different salons from metro west to the north shore, depending on where I am working at the time. I must say that Tokyo Nails in Winthrop is by far the best I have ever been to. When I experience a different salon I always compare it to Tokyo. Lyn, who is the proprietor asked me my name the first time I came into the salon. I am amazed how she always greets me by name when I drop in for my pedi. She has this amazing ability to make you feel so welcomed when you walk in. I am never disappointed when I leave there. Today I just had a pedi in this pretentious salon in Danvers (only because I was given a gift certificate) I wish I went to Tokyo!
