Best nail salon ever! Beautiful place - as nice as salons in Beverly Hills I've checked out when visiting my sister. The owner, Mai, is always there and sets the highest standards. The place is immaculate with great furnishings, decor, and music. All of the techs are unfailingly polite and are perfectionists. When you get a spa pedicure you get a full leg and foot massage included, a big plus. AND, Belle Isle Seafood is right next door, for a great meal or drinks overlooking Boston Harbor before or after, or for your significant other to wait for you to finish up. read more

This place did an okay pedicure and a less than okay manicure -- they didn't soak my hands, cut my cuticles, or give any sort of a hand massage. The dip looks nice -- from a distance but when you look up close it's not even, and there are bits missing on the sides. The worst part of it all is they waited until the end to say they only take cash and pointed to an ATM. I don't carry cash, and I don't think an ATM fee is fair. There should be a sign saying cash only in the beginning. read more

I went to Star Nails for a mani-pedi and was blown away by their excellent services. My manicurist Linda was sweet, sensitive, cheerful, and funny; the massage chair was incredible, all was very clean, the patrons friendly, the nail trimming precise, the leg and arm massages soothing. The icing on the cake: as their ATM was not working and I could not get cash, they were willing to trust me for payment! Needless to say, my check will be in the mail tomorrow. read more

I watched the food network on TV the whole entire time i was there but what i should have been doing is watch the tech do my nails because my nails are destroyed. 1.5/2 weeks later i soak off my polish and i have Paper thin nail beds, my thumb nail literally has a hole in it, that's gonna be fun to grow out. You can see from the new growth how far she filed down my nail beds. Not sure if she accidentally used the wrong tip on her nail file, or if she just didn't care because she was in a rush to finish up her phone call with mass health. I was very skeptical of this place due to the reviews on here so far, but I wanted to give it a shot anyways to see for myself, especially as it is convenient to where I live. Stopped in for a pedicure on Sunday around 11:30am, was told to pick a color and have a seat in the pedicure chair. At first glance, the salon was bright and seemed updated, and also quite busy. Usually other salons would admit that it might be a while, and ask if you would like to come back. Instead, I was setup in the pedi chair, with a bath of lukewarm water that soon got to be very cold. The jets were weak, and nothing was added to the water for the foot soak. FORTY MINUTES later, a tech came over to add hot water, cut the nails on just one foot, and then went back to the manicure she had been working on. Once she was done with that, she came back over and resumed my pedicure. Now, the pedicure itself was pretty good, and the tech apologized a few times for the wait, but it really would have been better if they just let me know it was too busy, and I could have come back. An observation I made while sitting for so long was that other women also came in for pedicures and were told to just PICK a pedicure station to have a seat in, and they would end up in a station where a pedicure had just been completed. The problem with that is I did not ever see that the foot baths were cleaned/sanitized! That really bothered me... A lot of other salons now use plastic disposable liners for pedicures, and Star did not, and I am really not sure how clean the foot baths were. This and the wait time are really the reason for my rating. The pedicure itself was fine, the price ($30) was reasonable (although cash only), and there was a nice color selection of OPI and Essie. read more

Came in for a mani-pedi before my cousin's wedding which I flew in from San Diego for. This was the quickest mani-pedi I have ever had and I don't say that in a good way at all. She did a good job cleaning off the dead skin around my toes and painting them but the manicure part was not pleasant at all. I previously had green fingernail polish on which you can now still see underneath the nude color I requested. There is still tons of dead skin around my fingers and the half-teaspoon of lotion she put on my hands did absolutely nothing. She didn't even paint all the way to the edge of my fingers It saddens me to write bad reviews but I wouldn't recommend anyone to come to this place unless they want a 5 minute manicure, I which case, you could probably do on your own. Sad to say I didn't get to experience their services. I loved their other location on Crest Av, which has since closed. The Main st store is clean and friendly enough, but when I arrived at my appointment time (i often take a chance and walk-in at nail salons, but I have an appt later today and only had a 2hr window.) When booking noon I asked if she thought that was enough time to make it to my 2:00. she said, no problem. But when I signed in at noon, I was waiting for 15mi when 3 walk ins entered, asked her how long a wait and she said no wait, despite the fact that i was still waiting at 12:15 for a noon appt. they proceeded to sit all 4 of us in pedicure chairs, and then the (only) 1 person who came to do pedicures, sat down and started on one of the walk in ladies. 12:30 now. I mentioned that I had a noon appt and she said sorry they had appts too, which they did not because the 4 of us had discussed that while waiting at the door. So unfortunately I had to leave to be able to get to my 2:00; nothing got done and the whole reason I made an actual appointment and have the 2:00 appointment is because I have an event to attend so now totally screwed as far as the nails are concerned. I can't recommend this place or ever go back there. read more

I will preface my review with I do not get a lot of mani pedis, maybe once or twice a year as a treat. I am not picky about my nails, I just like the relaxation of the process every once in a while. I called and explained specifically I wanted to come in with my boyfriend so we could have our mani pedis at the same time. The woman on the phone was very sweet and said we could come in right away, so we did. Upon arrival all technicians were busy so we were put at the pedi station to wait. A woman eventually came over and started working on me while my boyfriend just sat there. He didn't get started on until my pedi was done and my manicure was close to done. I understand they were busy, but I would have appreciated the honesty that we couldn't be done at the same time and scheduled for later. Part of the fun is going through the process together! That wouldn't have been worth the 2 star rating on its own, it probably wouldn't have even been a big deal if the manicures and pedicures went well. I didn't catch names (lucky them) but my girl (very tiny, thin) couldn't have cared less to do a decent job. She had cut 4 of my nails square before even asking if it was how I wanted them, slopped some paint on and called it a day. They were all uneven, some super short some long some jagged some straight. My boyfriend reported his girl (chubby round face) was jamming on his cuticles so roughly he had to force himself not to wince from the pain! Needless to say our little hour of pampering was a total waste of time and money. $37/per mani-pedi combo (guess that's not a terrible price, hence the extra star) read more

Wish I could leave 0 stars. I came in around 6(two hours before closing). My sister and I were rushed picking out colors and forced into any color they felt like doing. Service was extremely fast to the point where it was a sloppy job and my nails were taken out of the dryer before the timer was up (big NO NO). To top it off they secretly only take cash for the full bill (no warning signs) and their ATM machine wasn't working and I was bothering about 3 different times about paying while waiting for their personal machine to work. Go get yourself seafood from Belle Isle and paint your own nails. Big waste of money and aggravation! read more

Had such a terrible experience here. I am newer to this area so I was really hoping to find a salon I like close-by. (Needless to say, I will continue to go to my usual salon on the North Shore.) My gels usually last 1.5-2 weeks without starting to chip. The gel I got from Star Nails didnt even last 48 hours. The manicure was not an "experience" by any means. I'm usually quiet during my manicures but had to ask her to cut my cuticles that were blatantly sticking up. (I should have left then.) She hardly used any alcohol on my nails before applying the gel (the drier the nail the longer the gel will stick.) She rushed through the service and it honestly looked like I painted them after having 3 cups of coffee with a trembling hand. Then she brings me to the corner of the room for a parafin wax. Left my hands feeling greasy and gross followed by a terrible hand massage (my 5 year old niece could do a better job.) I was having a nice day prior to my visit so I just quietly tipped and left without complaining. But the icing on the cake was my nails actually chipped and peeled 48 hours later. I have never met more RUDE AND MEAN nail techs. Complained about me to each other in their language because I wanted a specific color and I couldn't find it. Barely filed/scrubbed my feet for a pedicure and went so fast doing my manicure she didn't clean up the edges on my gel and it's all over the place. My nails look like SHIT. Super disappointed. Been several times and they have not really adhered to appointments. This last visit took the cake though. Made an appointment for 3 people to get pedicures together at 7pm. Got there at 6:58. Checked in, saw they were packed, but several seats were opening. They took one person and started her water at 7:05. Took the second person at 7:25. Meanwhile they sat a person with a 7:15 appointment next to the 2 people in our group. We left at 7:45 because no one ever came to do anything or ever sat our third person. 2 people were left soaking in warm water for 40 mins and 20 mins. Will not go back again. Apparently appointments mean nothing. read more

Super disappointed with the past few visits. I got dips both times and each time I have had 3 nails break within 2 weeks. I spend a lot of money on my nails and to have them break is obnoxious. Also I felt as I was rushed during my last one. I absolutely hate the nail drill and she didn't even give my nails time to soak in the remover and went right to the drill thing to take it off. When I got a pedicure I had to ask for a another coat of the polish because you could still see my nails under. I was really disappointed going to get my nails done here last night. My friend and I met to get her nails done and when we arrived we were rushed into a chair without even being able to pick out a nail color for our toes. The woman told us to pick out our dip nail polish and proceeded to tell us she would pick out our toe nail color. What?! After a few times of us telling them no, were allowed to pick out our own color. I felt as though my pedicure was sloppily done. Then came the dip powder. We were not asked what shape we wanted our nails or how long or short we wanted them. I normally have my nails short and square but as you can see from the photos they are now round somewhat miss shaped and not exactly what I personally desire. Also these photos were taken today and they're still residue left on my skin around my nail. Overall just a really poor job. I don't think i would ever go back here. read more

I've been going to Star Nails since I moved to East Boston 6 years ago. Honestly, I love it there! The owner Mai is the best and her whole team is fantastic! The customer service cannot be beat. I do the dip gels because my nails suck and can't grow without it. I am also not very delicate and I break my gel dips doing silly things like wiping a counter but they always fix them quickly and I appreciate not having to get a whole new set done. Since covid I've also been back and I'm happy to see the adjustments they've made for people to be safe and notably I LOVE that they have people sign in now so they could reach out if they needed to (because contact tracers are totally overwhelmed- and that's from my own experience). It's just the little things that make this my go to spot and why I refuse to go with friends to their nail salons. I've found when I go anywhere else it looks nice the day of but it never lasts. I'm happy that my dips can last 3 weeks minimum after going to Star nails and honestly, that's a major plus. I don't have a ton of time and I don't want to have to run to get my nails fixed or done every week. Highly recommend. And I make all my friends come with me and they love it too :) read more

I just want to get a nice (painless) and sanitary mani pedi! Is that too much to ask for?! I hate to leave a bad review because I understand that this is someone's business and a lot of people's jobs (livelihoods) but my experience yesterday on my birthday was unacceptable and yet I regrettably tipped 20% because I felt bad. It started with the most painful pedicure I ever received. I should have walked out right when she made me bleed by using the cuticle cutter to rip out a hang nail which caused me to instantly start bleeding. But I stuck it out cause I thought maybe she didn't notice/me too. But then she took out the cheese grader and literally went to town on my feet like she was trying to shave a block of ice (btw I get pedicures about once a month, my feet are not disgusting) but she was going insane with that thing like she wasn't even paying attention what so ever. And she shaved way too thing on the outside of both my feet, the sides up near the toes, they started to bleed, but initially I didn't notice, just felt the pain. What sealed the deal was when she shaved off a significant piece of skin on my toe that made me start bleeding and actually made me scream a bit in pain. She was about to continue grading, and literally tried to cover up the fact that she had just shaved off part of my toe and that I was bleeding by covering my toe with her hand. I had to actually say to her "you just cut me" and pulled my foot away to get her to stop. This then drew attention from the other tech next to her who had a seriously concerned look on her face when she saw what my tech had done to my foot. My lady then told me to stick my bleeding foot into the water and that it would feel better.. Are you kidding me!?! Needless to say, I have two feet with the sides partially shaved off, and a toe that is missing a lot of skin. I'm concerned that I'm going to get some sort of infection. And I'm a freaking idiot for being too nice and not making a bigger scene. I should have ended everything right then. But I let her finish. And then I tipped her. I'm very upset. My feet are in a lot of pain (I can't wear shoes without them hurting from the deep cuts on each side). I cleaned the cuts and put anti bacterial ointment on them but, I'm just so upset and disturbed but the whole experience, and concerned with the serious lack of sanitation and professionalism. I spent $60 on a mani/pedi with tip. And I feel like an idiot. I just wanted to do something nice for myself on my birthday. read more

I've been going to star nails for a couple years now and it seems like the quality of the service has slowly declined each time. I keep going because it's so convenient but after today's visit I've decided it's time to cut ties. I got the dip gel manicure. At the end she when she told me I was finished I had dried lacquer all around my nail beds still and under my nails. When I asked about it she did do a quick clean up but when I walked out into the sun i saw my nail beds were still a mess, she also never cleaned up my cuticles or moisturized them. My actual nails were good but the beds were a little uneven. Not enough for other people to notice but something my eyes keep going back to. This visit only underlined my continuing dissatisfaction with this salon. I also question some of their hygienic practices. The past few times I've gone I haven't been asked to wash my hands at any point during the process. And I know they reuse tools without sanitizing them between customers. I got the paraffin treatment on my hands once and they dip your hand directly in the vat. Which may be normal and fine but I was never asked to wash my hands before hand. How many other unwashed hands preceded me? That wax is not hot enough to kill germs. I'm not an expert but but I mentioned some of this to my sister who is in cosmetology school and she said I should stop going there, it's an infection waiting to happen. They do have some good points like the salon itself looks nice, lots of sunlight, and they are pleasant enough. Though today they made a phone call on speaker phone to try and convince someone to change their appointment time- not ask them convince them. I could hear the whole exchange. Not the most professional. Anyway. I didn't mean to write such a long negative review but once I started I just felt compelled to keep writing. Edit: tried a new place called luxury nail bar, near target. Much better results and very knowledgeable staff. I plan on becoming a regular. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. The staff was extremely rude to me and when I openly told the staff that I didn't appreciate her tone I never once even got an apology. Even the "manager" didn't say anything. It was so bad that I took my feet out of the tub and walked out. Trust me try one of the places in East Boston. I went to Cindys Nails and had a fabulous experience. Only about 8min drive further and worth it. I've heard great things about House of Nails, but it was late in the evening and they didn't have room in the schedule for me. read more

Great mani/pedi! I came here on a whim after a terrible experience somewhere else, which is another story altogether. I'd passed Star Nails several times and decided to try it (doesn't hurt that it's next to Adriana's, a brand new coffee shop). I walked in without an appointment and was pleasantly surprised at how clean and bright it was. Yes, it's new but someone obviously knew what they were doing when the picked out furniture and decor. Christa did a beautiful job on my mani/pedi. It didn't hurt that she was also really nice and didn't rush. Prices were reasonable--$35 for both. After trying several salons on this side of the harbor, I have found my go-to place and will definitely be back! read more

Amazing service! I am very hard on my hands and typically gel and dip won't stay on my nails longer than 4 to 5 days. I decided to try a gel manicure from this place for special event. The gel stayed on not only through my work week but for a week of camping as well! Got 2 full weeks out of it and it didnt take 2 hrs. I was able to get a great mani pedi in 1.5 hrs. I decided to get a pedicure here, and made an appointment. I sat in the chair and realized that the girl doing my pedicure was from the other star nails location down the street. I was frustrated because two weeks prior I had got her and she wasn't even able to finish my gel manicure before I had to ask for someone else. She was unaware of how to even remove the gel. So thinking it was just a basic pedicure I gave her the benefit of doubt....BOY WAS I WRONG! My pedicure lasted all of 20 min. My toes were cut but barely filed and my feet were scrubbed for maybe 30 seconds max. with WATER...NO SOAP OR SCRUB. After this the girl proceeded to slather my legs in lotion and barely rub that in...the kicker was polish that was applied sloppy and she wasn't even going to clean up my cuticle from all the polish she got on them until I asked. There were other customers in there so I didn't want to make a scene, but I seriously considered telling the owner that I would only pay for 1/2 a pedicure. Really disappointed!! read more
