We ate at Sperry's for the first time on Father's Day and absolutely loved the old school atmosphere. For our drinks we got the vodka martini with blue cheese olives, and a Sperry's old fashioned. They were both fantastic! For our appetizer we got the crab cakes, and those were also fantastic! The salad bar is a nice touch to the restaurant and we enjoyed it. For our entrees we got the chicken with mushroom sauce, the king cut prime rib, and grilled asparagus. The prime rib was a little undercooked for our liking, but ok. For dessert we got the bananas foster and it was excellent! We also loved that it was done table side by our wonderful server. He was attentive and kind. My meal at Sperry's was the highlight of my trip to Nashville even though I had several good meals while in the city. I took a ride one late afternoon about a week ago and drove out West End Avenue into Belle Mead; I had never been there before and noticed as I passed it, Sperry's. It looked like an old-school place to me and that drew me in, plus it was busy. I decided to have dinner there even though I was a little too casually dressed for the place. I sat at the bar, and the bar service was excellent. My cocktail was well-made and ongoing service for refills, etc. was great. I had friendly conversation with the bartender off and on, and all throughout, the bar and dining room were filled with diners. The prices here are quite reasonable for the atmosphere and quality of the food. The house specialty, prime rib, was $44 for its largest portion offered - lots of other places charge far more for this. Sides are ala carte, yes, but in addition are reasonably priced. Prior to my entree, I had a caesar salad, which was excellent - the dressing is very good and made in-house. They are more known, however, for their salad bar, which is optional instead of a caesar. While I love prime rib, I had chopped steak. Yes, this is nothing special most places, but here the quality of the meat was obvious in the flavor, and it was served a perfect medium rare. They also wrap it in bacon. I had a side of creamed spinach, which was excellent. They also served a loaf of bread and side of butter. The desserts are made in-house and popualr I'm told, but I did not have dessert. I'd go right back and eat at Sperry's again the next time I'm in Nashville. read more

It is hard to argue with a restaurant that your parents have been going to for 40+ years because they are obviously doing something right. Sperrys has long been a Nashville staple and will continue to do so for many years to come. Any place that has a cold, fresh, salad bar with all the "fixins' " gets my vote. As you can see, I am a crouton and thousand island fan. Not much more to say about the salad bar besides more restaurants should have them. The mango/sausage stuffed mushrooms were incredible. The sweetness of the mango paired perfectly with the savory and umami flavors of the sausage and mushrooms, topped with a huge helping of cheese. The steak, cooked perfectly medium rare was good, not my favorite steak in Nashville but very consistent each time. There is something to be said about a place that never gets the "cook" wrong. If I had any suggestion for the steak itself it would just be more flavor/seasoning (salt/pepper). Who can forget the bread? Pretty standard loaf, nothing groundbreaking, just a consistently good taste. You have to order the banana foster, prepared table-side and not pictured but an amazing show and bite. This is not a blow your socks off restaurant, it isn't trying to be. No loud blaring music, not inspired by a Miami or New York interior designer. This is the place your mom and pop went, and your son and daughter should try. Just a very good restaurant, with good food and great prices. read more

The salad bar was popular and prices reasonable. We ordered the bananas foster for dessert and enjoyed the show. They didn't taste amazing, but it's fun to have. Parking is a catastrophe. The spots are too small for a mini cooper. So don't bring the SUV or pickup. The hostess was quite prompt and friendly. However, our waitress wasn't top notch. We found ourselves waiting on her and being skipped by multitudes of times. She wasn't cordial until delivering the check. My boyfriend surprised me with a Sunday afternoon dinner at Sperry's recently and it truly was a great visit. The food was hot and tasty, the bananas fosters was one of the funnest table side experiences I've ever had, and the service was incredible. (I wish I could remember our waitresses name, she was amazing!) This place is private and small, it felt a lot like the nice steakhouses from my hometown in Missouri, and not so much like being in the middle of a huge city, which I loved. I would say the seating is a little tight and there's not much sound absorption so it was kind of hard to have a conversation because we couldn't hear each other well. Additionally, there's supposed to be a dress code so we showed up dresssed nicely and pretty excited for a formal night out and almost immediately after we were sat, a whole family was seated beside us with hoodies and uggs, ball caps, and leggings on. While that was mostly on the guests, it was kind of a vibe killer and I wish the dress code could be enforced a little more strictly. For any visitors, just do your research first and keep classy places classy. I wouldn't suggest the salad bar, personally. It was pretty plain, I had hopes of a little more variety. However, the lemon drop martini, steak, and garlic whipped mashed potatoes were so delicious! Overall, this is a great option with delicious food and fantastic service. Although we find the prime rib to be a bit underwhelming, the scallops benedict was really flavorful and tender. The creme brûlée was probably the best we had in a while. What a wonderful experience! Everything was absolutely perfect and delicious from start to finish. We began with the escargot appetizer, followed by a generous bowl of lobster bisque--both outstanding. Our entrées included a wedge salad and bread service, along with the King Prime Rib and the 14-ounce Ribeye. The steaks were prepared perfectly and were of exceptional quality. For sides, we ordered the asparagus and mushrooms, which complemented the meal beautifully. The portions were so generous that we left with plenty to take home, so we had to skip dessert this time. The atmosphere was sophisticated without feeling pretentious, creating a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience. The staff was warm and welcoming, and Scott was one of the best servers we've had in a very long time. He was personable, funny, attentive, and highly professional. I really don't get the hype. They seated us right next to the bathroom and gave us dirty looks when we asked to move, as most of the tables were empty. The steak was cooked ok, but for the price I would expect that. The salad bar came straight out of a 1990's mid-tier buffet, and had iceberg lettuce, crunchy tomatoes, that sort of thing. I cannot believe a "fancy" steakhouse would have the nerve to offer such a thing. Desserts possibly from a food service store. A couple of sticky surfaces and very close together tables. I guess if you've never left your small southern hometown and Nashville is the big city you might be impressed. Waiters were nice. This was my first time visiting here. Came to celebrate my grandads birthday and had a great time. Service was prompt. Our serve was very familiar with the menu and was able to offer some good options. I feel like we tried a little of everything, but I only got pictures of a few things. The restaurant is dimly lit so prepare to use your cell phone light lol. It's kinda tight in the dining areas. Our table was rather close to another large party so it made it hard getting up from the table hoping you didn't bump the guest behind you. The servers seemed to struggle in this area as well from reaching over people in various ways. I would totally come back here though. This was like a hidden gem to me, but from the foot traffic this place is very popular. Would be a great spot for a little dinner date or family dinner night. They didn't seem to have a dress code, but I would at least look fairly presentable coming here though. read more

Amazing meal and service! We came here for a date night and started off with the escargot which were so flavorful and delicious. I tried the red snapper special which was cooked to perfection and my boyfriend got the filet mignon which was also amazing. We shared the Mac and cheese and fries as well. My wife and I visited Sperry's to celebrate a very special occasion--our recent marriage--and chose this restaurant because we had heard such great things. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The food was quite expensive, and when it arrived it was not cooked the way I had requested. Our waiter was kind and did his best, which I appreciated, but the overall quality of the food did not match the price point. The price of the food wasn't the issue but the quality was much to be desired. The manager called me on January 13 to apologize for the experience. During that call, he asked for our address and said he would send something to make up for the situation. That gave us hope that the issue would be addressed. However, it has now been a few months and I have never received anything or had any further follow-up. I was really looking forward to celebrating such a special day here, but unfortunately the food and the lack of follow-through from management made it a disappointing experience. Our server, Jonathan, was exceptional. He was on top of our many allergies, friendly, answered all of our questions and gave recommendations that would work for what we were wanting. We appreciated the assistance navigating the menu and options we had given gluten allergy, shellfish allergy, and nightshade allergy. Once the food arrived, it exceeded our expectations. Every bite was full of flavor and seasoned perfectly. We had the salad bar, wedge salad, lamb chop appetizer, NY strip, grilled ribeye, (both with bearnaise sauce on the side), asparagus, mushrooms, and baked potato. We had to have bananas fosters for dessert (of course)! It was so much food but was great for leftovers the next day. We will make this a staple when we visit Nashville. As always the food was amazing. We had an assortment of appetizers, the mushrooms, my least favorite. Smoked salmon, escargot, Brie, and prime rib sliders. My complaint was our server. We are 2 older women that deserve as much attention as the younger customers. I feel strongly that we were overlooked on several occasions as more attention was given to the younger crowd. We had to ask several times for assistance. Just FYI, we can tip as well as the next person. A pretty solid steak house experience. I was fresh off a plane and they found me a table for one with the proviso they needed it back in 75 minutes. No problem. Give me a wedge, rare filet pittsburgh, and some stewed mushrooms. The wedge was not great, the lettuce was garbage and the dressing more like cottage cheese. Also sliced black olives do not belong on a wedge. But who cares, the star is the filet, and it was darn good. 8oz, rare, pittsburgh crust. It was even cool in the very center.
