This is my first negative post written for a small business. I love to support local garment center companies but being a small business owner myself I couldn't be more disappointed and dissatisfied with Star Snaps. the bottom line is DO NOT by any means take a special item to Star Snap. Not only did they ruin a $4000 custom made jacket promising quality and demanding time while holding it for hours and hours while just standing around and not working on other projects. I won't go into too many more details as it's not worth your time but as a designer and atelier owner for over the past decade I have never dealt with such a psychotic and unprofessional person. We will be now remaking the entire jacket as they've ruined it. Luckily we have the ability to do so as some people do not have that option. read more

I brought a piece of fur to have snaps put on. Nestor couldn't do it on the spot even though it was a 5 min job...fine. So I left the piece and my husband went back to pick it up the next day. When he brought it home, I realized the snaps had never been put on! I called Nestor immediately and he told me to come back the next morning at 10:30am. The store is a 30 min commute from my place, each way. So I'm back for the 3rd time in 3 days, it's 11:34, I've been waiting over an hour and no Nestor. 3 trips, zero results. Did I mention they make you pay in advance. Go to Steinlauf and Stoller down the street instead. UPDATE 11:48 He decided he couldn't do the project and sent me home with a refund. Wish he would have told me that during my first visit when I dropped it off and paid in full. read more

Worst service ever. I went in the first day afternoon and the girl in store said she can not sell because the owner is not here. And there's four more customers jumped in to buy something and the women says the owner is not here and she cannot do anything so all of them went back. So the next day I went here again after I gave the women my number and ask her to call me when the owner is in store. Finally I got a phone call in the afternoon and rushed to there again, and the owner said he need more information about the things I want to buy so I have to comeback again the next day. I was in a hurry so I ask him if you will be in store tmr and he said maybe yes maybe no,he's not sure. The snaps on my satchel came off and the bag's company quoted me $50 (?!) to fix them, so without much to lose, I took my bag here and got the snaps fixed for a mere $3! Good communication is a bit lacking here though, I'm sure the lady I spoke to didn't speak english very well, I was trying to make sure the snaps would fit into the existing ones on my bag and she pretty much brushed off everything I was saying. Well what a shame... it seems like they've gone from 'reliable' to a completely irresponsible and careless business. You could tell in the owner's face that he gave up on accountability when they TOTALLY ruined my garment by making perforations in the wrong place, rendering weeks of work useless. Did we get an apology? NOPE. Accountability? NOPE. A blind person can do a better job than these people. YUP, just another business gone down the drain. Two stars is for pity... Extremely disappointing! If you don't want your expensive garments ruined, please don't go there!!! I've done snaps and grommets for my garments a few times and most of the times they did not a bad job, although a couple of times they had to fix their work, which was fine. However, today, they ruined my garment and won't admit their mistake. I was so surprised by the shop's owner who was so arrogant saying that I marked the placement of the grommet wrong and he followed the mark, but it is complete BS! Unlike him, I care about my work in which I invest a lot of $$$ and time, and I triple check everything before moving to the next step, so I know that all of my markings were perfect. IRRESPONSIBILITY WILL COST YOU A LOT OF MONEY AND STRESS AND CUSTOMERS!!! Brought three garments into the store. Asked the owner politely to be carful with the fabric because it was bonded white silk and it crushed easily. He became offended and screamed at me in front of the other customers and refused to help me until everyone else had left the store (2 hour wait). Then he told me to come back the following afternoon. When I did, the garments were not ready and he proceeded to help every other person in the store before beginning mine (extra 2 hour wait). Overall, I found the owner's pettiness and unprofessionalism appalling. Will not be back. read more

My first time in - had a cheap purse with a loose strap (threads breaking that fastened the metal D loop to the sides of the bag). Quickly the very friendly man who helped me had a solution to use two small rivets on both sides to secure it. In less than 10 minutes it was done and cost $6 - and the rivets match the metal hardware perfectly and looks like it was part of the original design. Continuously disappointed in service from this vendor. Im consistently being told to wait an hour and having to wait 2+ hours to witness others being told a 30 minute wait time. Extremely disappointing. Especially when work, such as installing a simple belt buckle is done incorrectly by placing the piece inside put. I've had nothing but good experiences with them. My studio used to be a block away and it was super easy for me to drop off an pick up. They have a great selection of rivets, grommets and snaps. They even offered to save my particular rivet so there would be enough for a mass production run I had coming up. I can't say enough good things. I bought a real suede skirt at Zara on super sale for about $12 (orig $119) with snaps all down the front. The top snap had fallen off and I was a little concerned I would end up paying more than the skirt to fix it, but I came here after Googling snap repair NYC and Ernesto fixed it in about 3minutes for $2.50!!! Probably cheaper than doing it myself. He even added a stronger snap bc it was at the waistline where it may pop off more easily. Would def recommend:) read more
