Thieves. Will take your close and only do 1/4 of the alterations they marked up and charge you a premium to keep your stuff for over 2 weeks. Pleading, begging. If you have any sort of special occasion and expectation to have your stuff back in a certain amount of time. Just don't walk through these doors. I dropped off my wedding outfits and was told to come back in 2 weeks. They have a policy where you need to call before you come pick up - now it makes so much sense why that policy is in place. I called and texted on the day of my pickup and was ghosted. I showed up finally two days after my pickup up date after not being able to get a response from them and my stuff was hanging up where I left it two weeks ago. The tailor swore up and down if I came back at closing he'd have it ready. Came back and nothing was done. I gave him yet another chance (stupid me) and told him I'll come back in 3 days. Still didn't have it done. And I leave for my wedding in 5 days. I have never been so stressed and so upset. I finally got my stuff and when I go to pick it up he says "can I do the shirt another time?" So he just fully didn't do one item because he didn't have the talent for it. This place wasted my time, my money because I have to go take the shirt to be done elsewhere on a rush job, and my sanity. Please avoid at all costs. Update: paid $200 for them to not even take in my dress in all of the areas we marked up. The cherry on top of an awesome experience with this place. read more

I brought in a bridesmaid dress that had small stains and required minimal hemming at the bottom. I had to endure FIVE DAYS of not knowing where it was because it was "lost at the cleaners" who they apparently outsource to. I finally got it back ONE DAY before I leave for the wedding and it ironically enough has more stains than when I dropped it off! Eduardo was very empathetic and offered to pay for the dress had it been lost, but I got the feeling when he told me to order another dress just in case that this is a very common problem for them. I am never returning to this business and would never recommend it to anyone. read more

I intended to take my bag of getaway clothes to another tailor on Allen Street a few Sundays ago but they were closed without warning or explanation. Allen Tailor was open. Eduardo, the main tailor in the shop was very attentive knowledgeable and creative. He was very patient while I tried on several outfits to be tacked, stitched, let out and taken in as needed. He even suggested using leftover material to make straps or enhance the designs on some of my items and I'm pleased with the results. My outfits were ready two days later and tailored to the "T." Eduardo and his team are true magicians and masters of their craft. I brought them a dress that I didn't think could be altered because of the complexity of the design and lack of extra fabric. After a complicated pinning and talking through ways they could approach the alteration, I didn't know how it would turn out. When I picked up the dress yesterday, I found an impeccably altered dress- you could not see how it had been altered. It was beyond what I had thought was ever possible and fit perfectly. It's hard to find tailors that understand the details and nuances of fashion items, but they excel at the details and intent of designs. It's also hard to find tailors that you can trust with more expensive and complicated items. Happy to say that Eduardo and his team can do it all. When I was there, I saw people bringing in the easiest of alterations (e.g. a new waistband for sweatpants) to most complex. This time around, I had a more challenging task of sewing my yankee jersey logo back on. They knocked it out the park and it was seamless. literally. On more than one occasion they failed to alter my garments past the pick-up date. On more than one occasion they could not find my items and I had to spend a lot of time looking in the back (which is a disaster!) I can appreciate the fair pricing, but I've been burned too many times - would recommend avoiding! read more

I work in fashion and am an adept judge of tailor quality. Eduardo is the real deal -- a very talented tailor whose prices are below what he could charge. Beautiful work equal to my old tailor Wo's on the UES. Organization wise, the business is a mess. You have to harass them to get things done in time, they forget orders, etc. It's never malicious or motivated by money, just mismanaged. I hate to say this because the people who work here are kind, but they ruined about 6 of my boyfriend's collared shirts by washing and drying them rather than dry cleaning them. They have all shrunken and are unwearable. So disappointed. read more

Fixed a fanny pack for me on the go. It was $10 and about 20 minutes. I appreciated them being able to do it in the spot and worth the convenience for me even though the hole they fixed wasn't a big deal -- it still took some skill and machinery I don't have. Nice people! read more

As nice as these "cleaners"/"tailors" come off, their service and craftsmanship are quite poor. I've lived nextdoor to them for a year and figured it was just easier to take my dry cleaning and alterations there. Big mistake, not all cleaners and tailors are created equally. I would say out of all the dry cleaning I took there, for myself and my boyfriend, he had to send about 50% of the items back to "redo", since the first attempt didn't actually clean anything. Most of the time, the second attempt would work (after waiting over a week...) but not every time, and he said that the stains couldn't come out because it was MY FAULT. Fine, I don't think I should be charged if you can't even provide the service. Next big issue is the fluctuating costs. Sometimes I would take a dress shirt in and he'd charge $3.50 (which is already expensive, but ok) and then other times I would take other dress shirts in and he charged me $9!!!!! FOR ONE DRESS SHIRT!!! OUTRAGEOUS. I asked him why, and he said "because it's a woman's shirt, just give me $7". WHY SEVEN DOLLARS?! What happened to $3.50? I told him he changed the prices every time I dropped stuff of, which was very frequent, and he said "nooooo, that's not true" but obviously it was. There are no posted prices for dry cleanings or tailoring, so BE WARE. Ask in advance, and don't let him swindle you into paying inflated prices for sub par quality work. Tailoring is a whole other issue. Basic alterations like hemming pants and skirts are fine, even I can do that myself at home if I wanted to. But my boyfriend took a new Theory blazer in to shorten the sleeves a little bit and somehow came back with the most careless and incompetent tailoring job I have ever seen. They charged him $20 for the sleeves, which would be perfectly acceptable had they done a decent job. But what they did was literally cut off about 2 inches of the sleeves and hemmed it. They did not move any buttons or try to even make the blazer look wearable. They left 2 out of the 3 buttons and the bottom button was literally hanging off the edge of the sleeve where they hemmed it. What kind of careless, not to mention RUDE, tailor would ever do that to a brand new Theory blazer? And then to have the gall to charge $20?! I'm glad I moved out of the LES and I will never be going back to this so-called tailor/cleaners again. Hands down the worst!!! read more

They are right under my building, so I used them for the first six months or so that I lived here. Alterations were no problem and cheap. Dry cleaning was a mess: not only did they ALWAYS take longer than they said they would-- and I'm talking like three extra days-- THEY LOST A DRESS OF MINE, AND THEY NEVER FOUND IT. Trying to get it back from them was impossible because they send all the garments off-site and now I'm in the market for a new dry cleaner. This tailor came highly recommended by my friend. I brought in a suit to be tailored as I lost a lot of weight. For $140, they trimmed the suit's sides, shortened the suit sleeves and cut the shoulder length to line up with my shoulder blades as well as adjusting the pants. It was very expensive, but I was happy with the alterations. The only issue I had was when I first tried on the altered suit, I was pricked by a needle in one of the sleeves. They forgot to complete the job on that sleeve as the needle and thread were still there! One can say I was lucky to get stabbed by the needle or else I wouldn't have noticed the incomplete job. They quickly corrected the issue. While the suit came out nice, I was turned off by the service and price. read more

It looks like you guys put my two designer dresses into the washing machine rather than dry cleaned them. They are completely ruined. I am devastated. One blue silk dress came back with rusty brown and white stains all over that it did not have before, and the silk is totally mangled from either water or improper cleaning solution. Irreplaceable vintage dress that I wore once to a wedding last weekend and needed for a wedding tomorrow night. Another dress with orange lace appliqué with tan mesh in between the lace - the mesh is now hot pink. Again, the fabric is totally ruined and frayed. The nude slip that goes under that dress is also missing. I cannot believe that you delivered these clothes looking like this. If you cannot clean an item properly, do not take it. You guys owe me $900. read more

I went to these guys to get a velvet curtain split into two curtains and to have the hoops at the top made. Carlos did an excellent job and was done with the work early. I hate to write a negative review and hurt a business but I'm trying to help everyone else out there. This place ruined several of my shirts (shrunk them or ruined the material), and my garments are never ready on the date they said they will be. The owner's father who works there is also incredibly rude and unpleasant to deal with. Would not recommend. read more

I went here through the recommendation of a stylish men's shop to get a coat taken in around the waist. As others have mentioned, they SEEM to have friendly service and attitude, but it's completely fake. First, they wrote on the ticket that the price was $40 dollars and to return a week later on Monday. I came back Tuesday and was told they forgot about my coat and handn't been able to tailor it and to come back the next day and that they wouldn't discount the price at all. I came back the next day and the coat seemed to have been done hastely. One side is uneven compared to the other and the shoulder wrinkles where it hadn't before. Regardless, I was frustrated with the late date so I didn't mention in, knowing they'd probably give me the go around and not want to fix anything unless at a premium. I asked for a discount because it was 2 days late, but he continued to say that he was already giving me a great rate and that it was only $50!!! He upped the price from the original ticket to $50 from $40 and tried to convince me that he was giving me a good deal even AFTER being late by 2 days and doing a rushed job! He himself admitted that he is swamped. That's not the type of place you want to go to get nice clothes fixed up. Your work will be rushed and they really don't care about your time frame. Go somewhere else, save yourself the headache, the hassle, and the fake friendliness. read more

I was so excited to get recommended to this tailor and hear so many good reviews about Eduardo. He was really sweet. Looked at the worn out elbows of my sweater and said they would put on some oval leather patches. Sounded cool to me! So it was supposed to be ready on a Tuesday but I came on Friday, thinking then they'd have an extra few days. Well it still wasn't ready. Not even close. It was stuffed in a random pile of sweaters with no work done on it whatsoever. Unfortunately I needed it to take on a trip so I had to wait for them to do the work. I think this probably led to the work being of slightly lower craftsmanship than usual. The sewing isn't as good as I'd expect and some of the patch is a little wrinkly. Plus I was late to work and waiting made it that much worse. He offered me a small discount - $15 instead of the $20 I owed - which helped but I was really disappointed in the organization. read more

I have virtually all my clothes altered in some way because I'm so tiny, and when I moved down to DC a year ago, I figured I'd just find a new tailor down there. But no one could come close to Eduardo's prices or quality. So now I wait until I come up to NYC to visit friends and bring all my alterations with me. I have been going to Allen Tailoring (Eduardo) for a few years now and have lost count of how many of my friends (at least 15) I have sent there...all of them are as satisfied as I am. One of my friends that used to make her own clothes comes from New Jersey to use their tailoring services because they are that good and another one of my "fussy" friends also thinks they are the best....for the price of alterations, you are definitely getting more than your money's worth. On the Upper East Side where I live, not only are there very few tailors but the prices are outrageous and their work is not that good. Eduardo has made me a very popular woman with all my friends. I have even sent young men I work with to have suits altered and they too loved the work. In addition, Eduardo is one of the nicest, kindest, people that you get to meet when dealing with those offering a service.
