One of my favorite pairs of jeans had a hole in the front pocket. It was fixed once, then a new hole sprouted. Sewn a second time, but that made the pocket almost too shallow for anything. I found this place online, and immediately booked an appointment. After a 2 week turnaround, it was time to pick them up. I had front both pockets replaced, and now they are ready to resume their place in the rotation. The job was about $90.00. Perhaps a little pricey for some. I love my g star jeans so when they ripped I was bummed. I found denim therapy online and their reviews and pictures looked good. I was confident that they would do an adequate job fixing my jeans...I was wrong. I sent my jeans and got a message from UPS letting me know they were delivered, that was September 11th. 3 weeks after they were delivered I called because I hadn't gotten an estimate. I spoke with Rafael and he straightened that out we even went over what repairs I wanted done again to clarify. I check online a week later and it says my jeans are "in therapy" so I'm thinking cool they've had my jeans for 4 weeks now I should be expecting them back soon now...wrong again. The website says 2 week turn over I didn't get jeans back for 6 weeks and when I did they looked worst than when I sent them to be repaired. The large tear at the upper thigh and small tears at the top of the knees and small tear at the bottom of the back pocket is what I asked to be repaired. They did well with the large tear but everything else looks like it was done by a blind seamstress. The back pocket was completely neglected and for some reason I have about 2 dozen random vertical stitches down the thighs of my jeans now. I brought 2 pairs of nice jeans to have small holes patched in the crotch. I give them 3 stars because visibly, they did a nice job repairing them in a timely manner, but to be honest I've barely worn them since I received them back. I'm not familiar with their technique, but there is a MASSIVE patch of gauze material on the inside of the pants that I find unbearably uncomfortable. It is rough to the point that my skin was visibly irritated and begins to peel back with wear. I carefully trimmed off the section that peeled up and was hoping it would reveal the natural material, but it leaves some type of residue that is still very rough. I've washed them hoping it would come off, but it has not so far. On another note, the pants I brought for repair are tight, women's denim and although the thread they used is a really close color match, the material is not the same. For example, one of the pants has some stretch to them, but the repairs do not have the same give. So not only is it uncomfortable for the reasons mentioned above, but it alters the fit of the pant because they don't stretch in the areas repaired. I don't think I'd use this service again for this type of pant, but men (who wear boxes) may have better luck. read more

These people really are miracle workers. And it's as good as it gets in terms of denim repair. Basically your other options are attempting to sew your hole up (not advisable), or patching the holes (also not advisable - unless you're going for that Punky Brewster look, in which case, still not advisable). I really don't know how they do it - some kind of magical denim elves I'm sure, but they do a great job. And it really does match and look good. The reason they're not getting that fifth star is because of some weird payment issues I had with them - apparently they weren't receiving the e-mails I'd sent them with my information. And the fact that I wore through the repair in a particular pair of jeans, but a year later - I'm hard on my jeans. The Denim therapy repair on my AG Jeans was incredibly disappointing. After waiting nearly 4 weeks for their return to me I found that they used a bulky patch that appears to be interfacing. This patch is incredibly rough and bulky when being worn... A far cry from the promised "re-weaving". In fact on their own site they claim that they don't patch but re-weave the fabric, from where I sit on my repair this statement of theirs is an outright lie. I will give it to denim therapy that on the outside my jeans look near perfect, unfortunately as pants are meant to be worn the inside is as important as the outside and inside they fall far short. My favorite jeans that I expected to return re-weaved and expertly mended returned with a sloppy (on the inside) thick patch that scratches my leg with every move. My experience with Denim Therapy is somewhat in the middle, so let's call it three stars. While they were able to repair the crotch rip in my favorite pair of Sevens, the gauze-like pad that was used to do it and the Pony Express shipping method left me a bit irked. I've had these particular jeans for a long time and they had become threadbare on both sides of the crotch seam. I felt like I tempted fate each time I wore them and that I'd inevitably hear a dreadful tear as the boys finally busted free. After seeing a blurb about DT, I did a little research and sent my jeans off to get fixed. I paid $12 to use their shipping because it included insurance. I printed off the label, wrapped and packed up my jeans and dropped them off at the Chicago USPS hub. Little did I know that these would become part of a bulk shipment on its languid journey to NYC. This was probably my biggest regret with the entire experience. For half the price I could have sent them priority mail and had them arrive in two days instead of the two weeks the Pony Express took. Once they arrived DT contacted me regarding the repairs, cost and time it would take to fix them up. I passed on the back pocket wallet hole, as it would have been quite expensive. They were very busy and therapy was going to take a bit longer than usual. About six weeks from when I sent off my jeans, they arrived back home. Thankfully, they used FedEx on the return. Sadly, my jeans seemed just tossed in a box. No invoice, no note, no bag. Just jeans in a box. For the nearly $50 it cost me, I would have expected a bit more attention to detail. The holes in the seat were all taken care of and not noticeable from the outside. The inside, however, was a different story. It looked like a gauze-like weave. There were also a bunch of stray threads all over my jeans. Maybe clean up your work after you complete it. I knew that the repaired area would be a bit tougher than the well broken in, buttery soft denims I sent them. It's not such a big deal to me, but something you'll want to be aware of. Color match of the threads was perfect. Overall I'm satisfied with the work that DT did on my best pair of jeans and I'm thrilled to have them back in the rotation. I'd recommend DT for any major repairs that you need done that can't be completed at your local cleaners. read more

After my last pair of jeans were repaired, I sent in another two pairs of Diesels out to my good friends at DT, and of course, when I received them back, the work was phenomenal and I couldn't be any happier with their work. Some people have rated DT at 3 stars because "if you're crafty and have a sewing machine, you can do this work yourself", well, not really. DT takes great care in finding the closest matching thread possible to your original jeans and they take into account the fades and where to change the colors if needed. Besides, if one is searching for someone to fix a pair of jeans, chances are one doesn't own a sewing machine nor possess the skills to do the job they do - its called a skill and one that they obviously do well. If you don't approve the cost then they just charge return shipping. They don't repair corduroy and I think their zipper repair is pricey. I brought jeans in to have some holes repaired and was disappointed in the quality. The workmanship was poor compared what I've gotten from Selfedge (on the same pair of jeans). Denim Therapy covers holes with a large piece of gauze on the inside, before running through the darning machine. This would be ugly and unnecessarily stiff and thick even if they trimmed the gauze down to the size of the actual repair. But they don't even do this. They leave large squares of it, which are attached beyond the repair area with adhesive that's just a bit tackier than a post-it note. The result is cumbersome and unfinished looking, and is only going to get worse with wear. When I picked up the jeans, I asked what the deal was, and they just said, "that's the way we do it." Well, yeah, thanks. But I have to assume they do it this way because it's easy. Other people make permanent repairs, using the same machine, without the gauze. They offered to trim the gauze for me, but I decided to just do it myself. It's an improvement, but still looks amateurish, and the jeans feel diminished. For what it's worth, the quality of the darning itself was very good. Whoever ran the machine knew what they were doing. The small repairs that just required stitching were all done well. Denim Therapy may be a good resource for hemming and alterations. But I can't recommend them for repairs. Find someone who will darn your holes properly, without the crutch of backing fabric. read more

Really pleasantly surprised with my repair, given the bad reviews! It's true that the website is kind of misleading: once they add up all the inches they'll need to repair to keep a small hole from reforming, the cost jumps to $45 or more. And they do use a sort of "patch" on the back of the repair - but it's super soft and not at all uncomfortable. My jeans were color matched perfectly and I got them back in just under two weeks. Plus the repair seems really sturdy! They also give a discount for first time repairs. Note: to get into the building you need to show your ID and wait for a painfully slow elevator. read more

I do like Denim Therapy, and I've repaired the same pair of jeans twice here. I do a drop-off and pick-up, so don't really have issues there. The first time was for a knee and crotch hole, and the second time was for a crotch hole on the other side. I do feel like the repair does look generally indistinguishable from the actual denim from a distance - it does feel stiffer, but I guess that is to be expected. The second crotch repair doesn't match the color of the first crotch repair and is slightly lighter, but then again, the first one was repaired three years ago so I'm sure there were color changes. The first repair is still holding up, by the way. What really bugged me this time was that my jeans came back smelling of cigarette smoke. I would still recommend Denim Therapy to my friends and I would still come back, but be warned! read more

You can take a chance on these guys and hopefully you'll get the service others are talking about. However, if you are sending in an a pair of denim you care about and you don't want to risk it, then send elsewhere. There are other places online to get your denim hemmed and holes repaired. You just need to do a search online. I know of at least one other in New York, one in California and another in Washington. My mail-in experience was awful. I sent my jeans in using USPS priority 2-day which cost me $13. It arrived on Saturday, but not delivered until Monday because they are closed weekends I guess. I waited... and waited... and finally on Friday, I decided to give them a call and see what was going on. The girl I spoke with told me that the tailor had some questions about what I wanted done to them and I answered her over the phone (even though I sent in the sheet of paper with specifications). I had sent in two pairs; one for tailoring and the other for fit reference. Now, I'm not tailor, but I can see the difference in the waistbands and hips. Not a ton of difference, but enough to see that they don't match up by about 1/2 inch or so which, as you know, can make a difference. I also requested a chainstitch hem. I waited for my electronic estimate which came that Friday and it said the tailor saw no difference and would not be doing the tailoring but would be charging me for chainstitch hem if I wanted to proceed. At this point, I decided that it was best if I didn't explain to someone how to do their job and take a chance on them ruining my expensive pair of denim. I responded with having them do the chainstitch hem since they already had them and would have to pay the return shipping anyway. Which btw, is $18 on top of the $25 for hemming service. That's $31 in shipping for a $25 dollar service; all in. So I waited... another week goes by and I'm at this point like "wth?" I send off an email asking them to send my jeans back since it's been another week at this point. I get a response saying "It is a two to three week turnaround since time of payment." Two to three weeks for a chainstitch hem?!?!? I let them know how unhappy with the service I've been receiving and how incredulous it is to have to wait that long. On Monday they send my jeans out to me. When I finally receive them, I pull them out of the box, check out the work (chainstitch nicely done) and notice they feel a little high. I pull out the tailors tape and sure enough, 1/2 inch too short from what I requested. Wow, way to add insult to injury Denim Therapy. read more

In my lifetime I've owned five pairs of size 27 Diesel Daze jeans. They've been hugging me for years, and I refused to give them up. They had that oily, delicious film that only comes from wearing them religiously. But one by one my booty proved it couldn't be contained and managed to bust through the threads at the exact same place. On my last pair and fearful, I scoured ebay for a backup as the style was ages old. Each day I shut my lappy empty carted, anticipating the final moments. When it arrived I wasn't distraught as expected because I learned of Denim Therapy, my jean savior, doctor all of rips and tears, promising my baby hole free and plastered to me once more. Just mail in the pair, DT responds with a price depending on the type of damage ($47) and you give em the go ahead. I received mine within a few weeks, radiant. The six inch gash along my right buttock was practically indistinguishable. *poof* Now you see it, now you don't! Somehow they had copied the weave and pattern an gave my baby its face back. More proof why Yelp is a better resource than any magazine review... So I read in NY Magazine that this is the best place to get your jeans repaired. Wow. I can not imagine how a business owner in NYC could throw away such a golden opportunity. This establishment is not even almost ready to take drop off orders. They should stay a mail-in business. 1. I went there and could not find the place because they have a shared office space with no sign on the door. 2. When I called, they almost did not want to tell me how to find them. 3. When I finally found them, the people working there did not help me. Handed me a piece of paper and said put your information here and drop off your jeans. They said "you used to need an appointment to come here" and "drop off is new to us and we are figuring it out". For the owner: In this economy you should really have your business in better standing before opening your doors to the public. If you are not ready for drop off orders, then do not accept them. Also, you may want to set up a better process/experience for your paying customers. Even if you do the best job in jean repair, no customer should experience a 30 minute process of BS before you allow them to provide you with their business. read more

Four crotch blow outs and each pair has come back looking great and actually looks and feels more durable than the original denim. The thread matching that do is really good. Yes you can see where the repair is made but I suspect overtime as the thread fades it will look more and more like the original denim. I live in Colorado so have to mail in my jeans for repair but the process is easy and turn around from mailing them in to getting them back is usually right around a month. read more

This place is terrible. I sent in a pair of Gap premium jeans that had small wear holes on the front of the thighs. The "repair" was done with gray thread (these are blue jeans). The patches are immediately visible to the naked eye from a distance of a couple of feet. It simply looks like someone has stitched over the hole with a different thread. These are not rewoven jeans. Worst of all, there is a mesh-like patching material on the inside that makes the jeans extremely uncomfortable to wear now. I preferred the holes. I called as soon as I got them and the guy I spoke to was very terse and not particularly helpful. He basically told me that if I wanted to go to the effort to bring the jeans by, they'd take a look. Sorry, everyone talks about how great they are, but I was really disappointed. I am not dinging them because of my high expectations, their work just wasn't great. I had this FAVORITE pair of jeans, that had some significant wear and tear. The bottoms of the legs looked so worn out it practically went up to my calf on each side (not quite that high, but you get the point). I sent my jeans in, and didnt hear a word. Flared, and one side longer than the other. They literally widened the bottoms of the jeans. No idea why. OMG... this place saved my Favorite Jeans! I do have couple of expensive jeans and i wear them all the time.... and they usually won't last long because of my big F*T Thighs (Keeps rubbing at each other). I saw a deal thru Giltcity.com and i gave it a try. After fixing 3 inches in the inner Thigh and 1 inch on my right knee. Now it looks like brand new!. Even tho i spent $ 40.00 (Regularly $80). Very easy system, drop off or ship your jeans. Takes about 2 weeks for repair (for faster service, you can pay extra $$ to get it fix sooner). And they usually let you know over the email when they are done and can pick it up . I will come back again to give my jeans to repair them!. read more

Sent in 2 pairs of jeans to have some holes repaired. It cost me $13 to ship it to NYC. A week later I got an estimate by email which was cool but the estimate was over $125 to fix my jeans! $77 and $49 respectively. So I of course told them to send them back to me and paid another $18 for that. And it took over 3 weeks to get them back. All in, I spent $34 on shipping. The same day I got them back I took them to my local Korean dry cleaner who did the work for $9 freaking dollars per pair!!!! I'm such an idiot. This services is wayyy too expensive. read more

I sent in two pairs of jeans to be repaired (large tears - inner thigh and knee). The turnaround time was acceptable considering I sent them in over the holidays. The shipping was a little high, but I was willing to do it to save my favorite pairs of jeans. When I received the jeans, I was SO happy with the work. The color matched perfectly. My jeans were still as comfortable as ever. The white batting on the inside didn't bother me. The jeans tore along the repaired edge first time I wore them. I complained to Denim Therapy, and they offered to repair them for free (just had to pay the shipping). I agreed. The repair turnaround time was reasonable. I was able to wear the jeans a few times before there was an even larger tear around the repaired area. The second pair of jeans lasted a few months before it tore along the edge of the repaired area. I wanted to love this service. I was okay with the price. I just need more than a few wears out of a repaired pair of jeans. The customer service was excellent, but the product wasn't worth the hassle. I just had to buy a few new pairs of jeans. read more

While I'm elated that my favorite Citizens are back in action, I'm wary of how long they'll be around after a dose of Denim Therapy. I sent in the ol' pair after a crappy Nordstrom fix (albiet only $15) ripped. Initially, DT's estimate was super high, charging me per inch to "remove the old repair." What? The jeans ripped themselves, and now you want to charge to cut out an old patch? No. I told them to please fix it over the existing repair, which they did. So today I received my jeans, and while they look good ... one of the leg's repair may not last. They didn't go far enough over the thinned area, so I'm pretty glad DT offers a three-month warranty on repairs. The thin part starts immediately where they left off; fingers crossed they don't rip in an unfortunate situation. read more

I was pretty underwhelmed with my overall experience with this place...and then I got my jeans back today and was REALLY upset. To start, when they first quoted me on the jeans, I thought it was ridiculously overpriced. As many other reviews have said, there are so many other places one could get their jeans repaired here in NYC. But the photos on the website looked awesome and they already had my jeans, so I emailed them through their site to say I was concerned about the high-priced quote and felt it didn't match their online pricing ($4.50 per half inch). I didn't hear back from anyone for over a week until I received an email (that I now know was automated) saying that they had not heard back from me and would be donating the jeans if they didn't. Annoying, but whatever, I called. I spoke to a super nice woman on the phone (sorry I can't remember your name) who said that they were changing management (or ownership?) and some things were falling through the cracks. I work in retail. I get it. Stuff happens. She then went through my entire quote with me over the phone, made sure I wasn't being overcharged (actually reducing the quote on one pair) and then gave me a discount on the entire order since I had been waiting for them to contact me. This was, by far, the best part of my experience and why I'm putting 2 stars instead of 1. Now on to today. I picked up the jeans - a very quick and painless process - and was in a serious hurry because I was on my way to work. So I didn't have an opportunity to look at them or try them on until I got home. On their website, they show pictures of their repairs, which are for the most part (forgive the pun) seamless. Meaning they barely look like they are repaired at all, showing absolutely no threading and the exact wash/color throughout. This is NOT at all what my jeans look like. Yes, they have a disclaimer on their website that says they cannot guarantee color matching. And I reminded myself of that after looking at the first pair and being really disappointed in their work. But as I pulled out pair after pair (I had them repair four pairs of my jeans), each one looked EXACTLY the same. And what I mean by that is not only was the repair threading VERY obvious (not at all like what they show in the photos on their site), but it was also the EXACT SAME COLOR on every pair. Which, to me, is an indication that they didn't even TRY to color match! The thread doesn't even look BLUE in most lighting - it's almost a purple or indigo and it even reflects light differently than the rest of the denim, making it SUPER obvious that they've been repaired. None of this would be as big an issue to me, of course, if it wasn't A) completely misrepresented on their website, B) all the same color thread, and C) so much more expensive than every other place I've seen that repairs jeans. I mean, maybe I would expect this from my local dry cleaners, but these people charge a premium for their service...and premium it is not. I wish I could post photos along with my review so you could all see what I'm talking about, but perhaps there is another way for me to add them on Yelp. Regardless, I am extremely disappointed and will not be bringing them more of my business or recommending them to anyone else. read more
