Best sushi in Jeff. You can't beat what they have to offer. Very authentic and quality.

I haven't ordered from Star Sushi in ages. Back then it was excellent delivery service. This time, I stopped in to place an order to go. The receptionist (manager) was patient and extremely kind. She even offered me a drink while I waited for the food to be prepared. And the interior decor makes for a relaxing environment. I went with steamed shrimp shumai, vegetable udon soup and yakisoba beef. One thing is for sure, food is served piping hot and remained hot for my ride home. Star Sushi has a unique approach to their food. The shrimp shumai, steamed, were small-almost the size of a Rolo cup. Very mild in flavor, "saved" by a sweet sauce. I'd probably order the appetizer fried next time. The udon soup had a tasty broth, but the udon noodles were exceptionally thick, the diameter of a twizzler. (What's with the candy references?). I'd have preferred a more traditional noodle. BTW, Star doesn't offer any gluten free noodle options. Surprising, because so many Asian noodles are rice based. My yakisiba beef also avoided the traditional noodles and went with the rice noodles I couldn't get with the udon soup. Flavors are "safe", no strong seasoning. And while there was a good amount of beef & veggies, some of the beef strips were a bit dry. I'm thinking I should respect the reason the restaurant is named "Star Sushi" and stick with sushi for my next order. read more

I have ordered from and dined in this restaurant many times. Today I ordered delivery for pan-fried gyoza, the Derby roll, and vegetable fried rice. The gyoza was still somewhat warm upon delivery, which was nice. They were golden brown and came with a sweet, thin, delightful dipping sauce (most likely soy sauce, sugar, sesame seed oil). The Derby roll was by far the best sushi roll I've had there. It has everything I love in a roll, from the fresh fish to the eel sauce and fried panko on top. Yum! It's also one of the few there that don't come with cream cheese, which I don't like in sushi rolls. The only reason I gave them 4 stars today was because the vegetable fried rice was pretty bland and underseasoned. It tasted great once I "spruced it up" with a few of my own ingredients at home, but I shouldn't have to add that much to it to make it edible. Other than that, it was great. read more

Wifey and I stopped in to dine before heading to a baseball game. I'm going to make this review short and sweet. We saw Debbie when we first walked in and LOVE her. She is so nice to us every time we visit. She got us seated and took our drink order. I ordered water and hot green tea. Wifey ordered water. Debbie brought the drinks and got our food order which consisted of Yum Yum Roll with cream, Fried Spider Roll, Fried Sunday Morning Roll and Chicken Fried Rice. Everything was delicious and the soft music in the background was relaxing. Star Sushi is the Best Sushi in Kentuckiana, in our opinion and Debbie makes the service perfect. read more

What a great find! Sushi was incredible. The menu had a great selection of different sushi and they are very accommodating for modifications. Rolls were filled and rolled perfectly. Amazing. AMAZING service, wonderful atmosphere with both or table options in a light and airy dining area with a bar area and a watching bar. Good experience and then let's talk sushi... so flavorful, perfect temperature and never needed the soy sauce. Plenty of options for what you like and then there is fried rice, which appease those anti sushi nibbles that looked good and hot. Great find, easily visible while driving down the road. Visited this spot on a Saturday night and it quickly became my new favorite! Upon entering, the setup was a little confusing--there was just one counter, and the employee was tied up helping a customer with a to-go order issue. There was no clear indication of whether we should wait to be seated or where to stand, which threw me off a bit. Once we were seated, though, the experience turned around completely. The food was fantastic! My companion had the calamari and a smoked salmon roll, which he enjoyed thoroughly, and I had the miso soup, house salad, and California roll. Everything was fresh and tasty. For such a quality meal, the prices are unbelievably affordable. The ambiance is fine, but nothing special--definitely on the sparse side. That didn't bother me much, though, since the food is the star of the show. Service was solid, especially considering it was a busy night. I'll definitely be crossing the bridge to come back. The Sushi was amazingly fresh. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the service was outstanding. The flavor of both rolls was amazing. The Sushi Chef is on site hand making each roll as you wait. This is a great sushi place in Jeff. We split edamame and a couple of rolls. They tasted great. One of the rolls was actually too big - the diameter of it. Dining in on a Wednesday night at 7 PM at their newest location on Hwy 62 (10th Street) near the Allison Lane intersection and the dining room was over half full. Plenty of easy parking and then seated right away in a comfortable booth. Cloth napkins, silverware and chopsticks, and serene atmosphere. Lighting was a little dim and made for a bit of difficulty reading the menu with black background, so I had to use my phone for additional lighting. Old people problems .... The restaurant is very nice and cozy ambiance with a clear view of the sushi chefs working their magic behind a glass partition. Our waitstaff took our order for drinks to start -- a glass of Cabernet $8 and a bottle of orange Jinro Soju $15. We did request ice water, but did not get this, and I probably should have asked again. We ordered seaweed and cucumber salad ($6) and a calamari appetizer $9. The salad was wonderful -- fresh, crunchy, seasoned well, and portion was surprisingly larger than typical at similar venues. The calamari was chewy and slightly tough and had a heavy breading coating reminiscent of onion rings at a diner. I prefer a light feathery coating, and these seemed like a frozen item placed in a fryer. We ordered 3 sushi rolls -- Red Bull roll (would repeat -- slightly spicy!), spider roll (so-so), and fire dragon roll (not going to repeat -- it seemed a bit bland and pieces too large to finesse). I will return to this restaurant to repeat favorites and to try new items because I do believe it's just a matter of personal preference on likes and dislikes. First time here and have to say we were skeptical but very pleasantly surprised. Restaurant was clean, the service was great, the food was great and prices were reasonable. We had two rolls which were the rainbow roll and the crunchy shrimp roll. Both were delicious! My wife had the chicken yakisoba and the vegetable udon noodle soup. We live relatively close and have been going to Star Sushi for years and it has truly never disappointed our tummies or our perfect evenings. We bring friends, family, and out of town guests here and certainl recommend that you try it out, too. Starters: I'm a sucker for the house salad (huge and a great ginger dressing!) Sushi: I think the rolls are rather large so my partner and I generally split two, unless we're feeling crazy and will try three. Our favorites include the Heart Roll (raw roll plated like hearts crunch and spicy tuna inside, red tuna on top with eel sauce) and the Sydney Roll (Tempura shrimp, avocado, and cream cheese inside, spicy crab and crunch on top with eel sauce). However, we've never had a bad bite and we've tried so many! If you're looking for something peculiar to mix up your usual order- try out the Garden State Roll (Fried crabmeat and FRIED BANANA inside, avocado and shrimp on top with crunch and eel sauce) - it's truly so weird but so fun and yummy to eat. read more

Did a stop in a to-go-order. This place is busy! Ordered a calamari, Spicy tuna deep fried, and a Heart Roll to go. Didn't take too long, enough time to have a beer while waiting. Took home! The calamari was done just right and wholesome pieces. The chili sauce was good, but personally I like cocktail sauce over the sweet chili sauce. The spicy tuna roll deep fried was very good; although the inside tuna seemed more like Starkist when you got to the middle. The rest was well prepared. The heart roll with Tuna outside and inside was much more savory. All in all they were all good! I'd stop here again and try some of the other wise variety of sushi and complimentary partners. read more

Got two vegetarian rolls and both were very good. This was a lot better this time than when I had it a few years ago. The person I was eating with got the fried rice and it looked pretty bland to me, but he enjoyed it. Their parking lot is too small and it's on an odd hill. I was getting carry out and it took be 10 minutes to find a spot to park so that I could go in and get my food. They need to have some spots set aside for carry out. They also said they'd call/text when the food was ready and that never happened. The food is good but the logistics of eating it were just annoying. read more

Went here recently for the first time and definitely plan to be back. The prices are great, they have a great selection of sushi and items. The one disappointment was the Teriyaki Chicken I got. It was the most flavorless Teriyaki anything I've ever had. There wasn't even salt or pepper on this thing. I could've made it better at home. I solely wanted something a little more than sushi. I guess if you're a picky eater and don't want anything crazy go for it, but I don't think I'll get it again. Our server seemed new but he overall did a fairly good job despite forgetting to put in one of our rolls, thankfully my husband ordered more and they put it on that round. Whoever named this place Star Sushi knew what they were talking about. Everything about this place is incredible. From the comfortable, welcoming vibe of the decor to the friendly employees, Star Sushi has it right! We decided to be adventurous tonight and try rolls that were different than what we normally order. I am absolutely in love with the Moonlight and Lily Rolls. With not a grain of rice in either one of them, they are perfect for anyone who is counting carbs. I enjoyed the Texas Roll, but not as much as the other two. Maybe it was their uniqueness that got my attention, I don't know, because all of the flavors were out of this world!! I must give a shout out to the Nigiri. The tuna was fresh, in good proportion to the rice, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious!! I can hardly wait to order more. I've had sushi that has ranged from not very good to off the charts great. You can believe me when I tell you that Star Sushi ranks as one of the best. I love the food here but the service last night was TERRIBLE. The lady took over 10 minutes to get our drinks, and that was after I asked her nicely "ma'am do you know who our server is"?" Turns out it was her and she told me to wait and asked why I didn't fill out the paper to order if I was ready. I told her I've never had to fill that out before and it's not for the drinks anyways. She said to fill out the paper when it's busy. She left, came back with our drinks, didn't even look at the paper she told me to fill out, she asked what we wanted and used the tablet. (So what was the point of filling out the paper she isn't even going to look at or write on??) I also told her I hadn't written my order on the paper because I had a question about one of the sushi's. She left and did not come back to refill our drinks at all, nor ask if the food came out okay, nor check up on us a single time, or anything at all. Other people brought our food out and I had to wait about 10 mins to get my food after my mom had gotten hers even though we ordered at the same time. We put our cups closer to the edge of the table so she would see we needed refills but she walked right past and ignored us multiple times. If it were busy I would maybe understand but it was not a busy night, it was not close to closing time, and she was being friendly and chatty with the table behind us and next to us, singling us out. She finally came back to give us our check. I've never had issues with the servers here before, but the lady from last night was being ugly with us despite us being patient and respectful. It made my mom and I not want to come back. Next time we'll just go to Kabuki since they're always nice there and the food is also good. My mom and I have both been servers before, so we always leave a good tip, but this lady did not treat us well. (Not sure if she was racially profiling us because I've had a few of my Hispanic friends say the same lady does not serve them well either.) But anyways, I don't know her name but she wears glasses, is thin and is middle-aged/older. read more

When the person on the phone said it would be 40 minutes I drove back home and when I arrived 6 minutes later to my driveway I got a text saying it was ready. The freshest of any sushi restaurant on either side of the river. You can tell a lot about a place by how fresh their Tuna Nigiri is. I have tried many of the other restaurants in the area and some places make the size of each cut of tuna smaller to make it cheaper and hide how fresh it is, but not Star. The UB roll and Las Vegas roll (if you're more into the cooked versions) are stellar. The shrimp shumai and gyoza are also excellent and come either steamed or pan-fried. It took me all this time to try it and I regret that decision! Star Sushi was delightful! I called in for take-out. I waited about 15 minutes longer than I was told, which is okay. My food was warm like it should be. We ordered a Spicy California Roll, YumYum with cream deep fried, Shrimp Roll with Crunch and Chicken Fried Rice. Very good sushi. Kinda slow-ish service. We had to look around a while to try and get not only our food ordered, but get even a water or beverage. But once we eventually got a server to come by, they were pretty consistent about making the rounds. My dining companion and I each got a starter, and then decided to share 4 rolls between us. They got the squid salad (I tried it...not my favorite thing ever, but it might be yours!) and I got the seaweed salad. I love seaweed salad. I will get it anywhere it is on the menu! The portion here is very generous as well. Our first roll, the White Fire Roll, was delivered first. It is served wrapped in tinfoil on a plate...and set on fire! Impressive! This partially cooks the roll, which tastes great! Then the platter with our three other rolls was delivered. I almost always order a crunch munch roll, because I love it and it is a good standby of something I know I for sure will like...to counter the different and interesting other rolls I will end up ordering! It did not disappoint here. We also got the Green Roll and the UB Roll. The UB is wrapped in rice paper, if you are intending to veer away from seaweed. I like all of the ingredients (aside from from cucumber...I don't like cucumber, but I, like, 'get' it in sushi as a filler and a texture component). The Green Roll was really good as well. I liked it better than the UB. We left stuffed, over-fed and sushi-happy. The sushi was good, but I think pretty on par with all the other good Louisville area sushi joints. Paired with the eh-service, I don't think I would return here over other places in town, and my other favorites remain higher on my list...but if I was in Jeffersonville or had a friend who was particularly intent on coming here, I wouldn't say no. Personally, it isn't worth the trip across the river...but if you are already on the Southern Indiana side...it is pretty a-ok! read more
