This is a true mom and pop stop for thai. Something you barely or rarely see any longer. A couple runs the shop and they know what they are doing. The food is authentic and tasty. You will not be disappointed. If you want to support local and not a corporate chain this is as wholesome and local as it gets. The two who work here are sincere, real, and a joy. Btw what's up with the no profile, no reviews bad reviews being left. Almost like a competitive chain hired workers to do it. Very weird, just go look at the profiles basically made a profile to leave one bad review here? The flags sure are raised as well as my eye brow. Im here to defend this place because its shady, seriously take a good look yourself. No pictures of the food and just bad information. I forgot how tasty this restaurant was until my recent visit back. Though Star Thai is located in a very quiet shoppette, the food is definitely what makes it stand out. There is no in restaurant seating anymore, which was available pre-pandemic, but the staff does a good job making sure your to go food is packaged properly and well. Speaking of the staff, the owner is one of the main chefs and front of house greeter. He is always so jolly and never lacks a smile. You definitely can feel his passion for the place just by talking to him and the taste of the food. I ordered the Tom Kha soup with chicken, the Pad Thai with chicken, and the Panang curry with beef. The soup was tasty and filled well, but the stars of the show were definitely the curry and the Pad Thai. The Panang did not taste oily at all and tasted very homemade and fresh as opposed to how some curry can taste from other restaurants. The Pad Thai was hands down the tastiest Pad Thai I have tasted in a very long time. The noodles were cooked just right, and there was plenty of chicken to go along with my bites. First time customer. I really wanted to like this place as its in the neighborhood. We ordered Pad Se Eyw with tofu instead of meat. We were given chicken instead of tofu, which my daughter (a vegetarian) could not eat. The portion was small, greasy, and the noodles were overcooked. We also ordered cream cheese wontons with sweet and sour sauce. The only one (of six) that I consumed tasted like the fryer grease hadn't been changed in a while and the sweet and sour sauce was thin and flavorless. The interior is kind of shabby, but since it's takeout only, you only have sit there to wait for your food. The gentleman who took our order was pleasant (and warranted an extra star). This place is the epitome of low key. No seating inside, just those working. Call in your order in advance, and get anything off the menu. Highly recommend that Pad Thai and Thai Basil Fried Rice. The Thai Custard was also awesome. I've been to a lot of nearby Thai restaurants, and this has quickly become my favorite. There's another Thai restaurant that has gotten attention from Westword nearby.........this one is at least 10 times better and much more affordable. I hate to give a bad review but felt that I should share our experience with this food for others' reference. There are a lot of great reviews here, so maybe we just got them on a bad night? The portions were unusually small. The soup was separated, not flavorful at all and very small portions for the price. The curry shrimp "entree" had maybe 2 or 3 shrimp and again didn't taste great. This was takeout for a group of old friends and sadly it was such a disappointment. Also FYI, they must have raised their prices from the website's price list because it came out to about $7 dollars more than what those prices (plus tip) were calculated. The panyang brings me back to grandma and dad's cooking, even if it's nothing but tofu and bamboo shoots. I'll admit, tho, I'm a bit nervous to try their shrimp or chicken. Yes as the review say the size/portion is smaller but you are paying less than 5.00 for very fresh Thai food. It tastes and is made is smaller fresh batches. Not Thai hot, but hot. Prik Pao was my favorite. LOTS of meat and veggies. No skimping on pricier ingredients, despite the meal only being $9.95 at dinner. More like a stir fry with noodles than all noodles with a sprinkle of toppings like some restaurants. Country Pad Thai was my husbands favorite, and he's not even a big fan of Pad Thai. Much lighter and more refreshing, but still flavorful. It can be a little tough to get through to put your order in, so I recommend ordering outside of peak hours if you can. read more

There's about seven tables in this place. It's not big at all. It's a hole in the wall. Talk about a small place. The divider between the kitchen and the dining area was the back of the refrigerator. I had high hopes since it's so highly rated on yelp. We ordered several dishes. Most of them are in the $7-$8. Amongst all the dishes the two dishes that I think is passable was the fried chicken and the worst looking Padthai I've ever seen. It was presented in such a way that it was just not edible looking. The Sprouts came with the roots still attached to it. I've never been served one that way. It's unacceptable to me. Although we agree that the Padthai was very tasty. A few weeks ago, we celebrated my grandfather's birthday with a physically distanced lunch in the park. This restaurant was nearby, and, having read good reviews, we decided to give it a try. The reviews were right! I will say that I haven't had a whole lot of Thai food, so I don't have much to compare it against. That being said, the flavors were absolutely incredible. I had the #13, Siamese noodles (Pad Se Eyw). It was incredibly tasty. The price was perfect, as well, and the place itself is cute. I'd highly recommend it, and I'll probably be visiting next time I'm up in the area (which won't be for a while, due to the virus.) Oh, and speaking of the virus: I appreciate the steps they've taken to make sure everyone is safe. They've moved a table near the door so that there's only room enough for a couple people to be inside at one time. Everything is take-out now, but the food was fresh and hot. read more

Little family-owned hole-in-the-wall off of Jewell and Wadsworth. The restaurant is very small, but has the coolest Iron Man statue I've ever seen, so... why even continue the review? 5 stars? JK... Iron Man is great, but as a Yelper I think I owe the readers and the eaters a little more than that. I ordered the Star Thai Noodle lunch. At $6 it was definitely a bargain... but the portion size was also quite smaller than what I expected (not a bad thing... it's an amount of food that is proportionate to the amount you're paying for it). Just don't let it catch you off-guard. If you're hungry, do yourself a solid and order the dinner size. The flavors were fantastic, the noodles were cooked to perfection, the carrots were crisp and the broccoli was fresh... and they were very quick, too. The Food is so delicious at Star Thai. At one point and time I was going there once a week just to get their Red Curry Dish. It is a family owned place and there is no dine in because the restaurant is their home...so be ready to pick up and eat at home...and leave a good tip for them! Right when you walk in, you get the whole mom and pop hole in the wall feeling. Came for lunch and was seated immediately. We were the only ones there at the time and eventually another customer came in by himself to eat. The owner (I assume) is very nice and genuine in his service. We tried their papaya salad (medium), pad se ew (hot), and jungle curry (hot). Both the papaya salad and pad se ew tasted great but the jungle curry taste more like tom yum soup. Each lunch entree was about $6 so pretty affordable right..? Although some of their portions don't even justify the $6. Reason why I deducted a star. Especially the pad se ew, VERY small lunch portion. The lunch portion would not even be sufficient for my 2 year old nephew if he had ordered it. When it came out, my husband and I were very shocked how little noodles there were! This place is a true neighborhood Thai place. They seem to thrive on takeout orders and I can see why. The style of Thai is a bit different. The Pad Thai I got was delicious and less heavy than others, albeit different--more bean sprouts and tangy flavors, less sweet. The curry my husband got was not the best curry we've had, if I'm honest, but still doable. Honestly, taking off a star for the curry as well as the lack of COVID protocols (no masks inside, which leads me to question other things...). My friends and I go here all the time, James is very accommodating and friendly! It's a nice hole in the wall and we usually go at off hours so we can shout at each other. Also when you're the only one in there your drinks get filled quicker and the food gets made faster.. My favorites are the pad thai medium, the panag hot, star thai noodles and the eggplant. I always say I'll branch out and get different stuff but I never do! Thai Hot here is pretty damn hot... I wouldn't recommend it unless you like your food swimming in peppers and love punishing yourself. The portions are right and the prices are fair. I feel the pad thai here is one of the best in Denver, because it has the right amount of sweet and spice, with noodles that aren't dry, and good portions of meat. The only thing I don't like is the amount of bean sprouts that are piled on top. You can usually grab a fistful off the top and still have ones you won't eat. Go here! read more

With the demise of Yummy Yummy Tasty Thai a few years ago, authentic Thai in the Denver region has been lamentably rare. There are plenty of good westernized Thai places to choose from, but sometimes you want the real stuff with its brash flavors and immediacy. Star Thai fits that bill. Stuck in a sad strip mall in a sad part of Lakewood, we stumbled onto Star Thai accidentally (hurray Yelp mobile!) and on entering, were not encouraged. Several tables were covered in stacks of uncleared dishes, the dining room was redolent of kitchen smoke (I HATE kitchen smoke), and the host/server looked at little frenzied. But something about this sketchy little place says "the food is what matters" and before I had time for second thoughts, a table was cleared and we were invited to sit. Our server was quick to get our order started--some jasmine tea for my wife, some Thai iced tea for me, and a couple bowls of tom yum with shrimp. These came out rather quickly. The teas were good, the soups, excellent: spicy, fragrant, devilishly spicy, with shrimp that were tender and fresh. Several more parties came in while we ate our starters, and our server got more busy, shuffling uncleared dishes around and delivering and taking orders. so it took a while to get our entree orders in. Long enough that I had the opportunity to wonder if they couldn't afford another set of hands. But eventually we ordered our dishes: beef salad, pad Thai, and a Star Thai salad. Through the curtains that separate the kitchen from the dining room, we could just glimpse a woman working furiously but expertly in back, big flames billowing from her wok and the sound of food being dropped into hot oil. Good signs. Our server also acted as kitchen assistant, prepping side dishes and salads in back. Pretty soon, our beef salad arrived and damn was it good. Straight from the wok and onto a plate with a nice helping of crisp romain leaves, it was tender, smoky, with a nice, slow burn--and yet not at all heavy. Next came our pad Thai. Pad Thai in lots of restaurants has become a bit caricatured and bereft of complexity--it's the "easy" dish for wary eaters and has, consequently, been inbred to look safe and to taste familiar. But that makes it a good "calibration" dish to order because what you get tells you something important about the kitchen. At Star Thai, the kitchen isn't making concessions to American palates: the pad Thai is spicy, gooey, smoky, complex, and not especially pretty to look at--which describes many great things. And again, the shrimp were noticeably tender and fresh. Our last dish, the Star Thai salad, was essentially a pile of vegetables otherwise destined for the wok, served with a tamarind-peanut dressing otherwise destined for fresh spring rolls. Surprisingly, this slight of hand worked, though we probably won't go back if we have a hankering for salad. The ambiance is non-existent, no two plates match, they don't serve alcohol, and the service is friendly though a little spotty, but the place is so honest and the food is so good how could you not love it? read more

Since that time, we've a vast array if different Thai Foods. Pad Thai just aint what it used to be, we now like the Panang Curry (wifes favorite) and the Prik Pow Noodles (my favorite). Was taken here on a recent visit to Denver. Oh. My. God. There are only two things you need to know: 1) It's a little dump with very few tables. Seriously. A dump. 2) It's quite possibly the best Thai food you'll ever have. Seriously. The best. On point #1, I'm not sure this place is up to code. Try not to think about it. Plus on a recent Friday evening, there was 1 server, probably an owner or family member, trying to juggle the 20-or-so diners that fit in the tiny room, plus a non-stop stream of pick-up and delivery orders. He was unable to handle it. We waited at least 30 minutes to get our food, probably more. It was worth it. On point #2, the Larb was dynamite, bursting with heat and complexity. The Green Curry was bright and complex and packed with fresh veggies cooked to the tooth. The Pad Thai was unlike the preparations that have turned this ubiquitous dish into a bland heavy cliche at so many restaurants. The portion of noodles was modest, but saturated with intense flavor and a surprise hit of heat that blended perfectly with the crisp bean sprouts piled alongside. We ordered our dishes Medium Hot, which was terrific though a bit too spicy for some of our party. I suspect Mild might still pack a punch here. There is a Chinese section on the menu. I don't understand why. Take out or delivery are clearly the thing here, and I may have to move to Denver to get it more often. 5 Stars. read more
