It's Christmas evening, and they were very busy. The orange chicken had just the right amount of spice and they gave us enough to feed my husband and myself. We took containers home, and it's enough to feed us tomorrow too. The only downside was they were not prepared or didn't have enough servers and it took awhile to get waited on and for the food. This is my go-to Chinese take out spot. I was scarred by bad chicken - you know, those meat globs in soy sauce that taste like McDonald's chicken nugget rejects? Well this chicken tastes like magic. Really flavorful, great portions for a solid price. We've gotten Lo Mein, Kung Pao Chicken, Szechuan Chicken, and Pan Fried Noodles. Food is ok, egg rolls are not good, service is terrible and delivery is awful. They sound out several orders at once so your food sits in the driver's car for a while. I know that our food was out for delivery for at least 30 minutes. It was barely warm when we got it. We were told 45-55 minutes but ended up waiting 1 hr and 27 minutes. Excellent flavors! Reminded me of my Mom and Grandma's cooking - Pupu platter was really good - Thai Spring rolls - Menu is pretty extensive and what you would expect to be there with multiple cuisines, and was fresh and very delicious! We dined in but came during a dinner rush and the phones were very busy (am assuming a good portion of the orders are take out or delivery). The service was great although things were very busy - applaud the staff and cooks they seemed to handle it well - would go back in a heartbeat can't wait to try the rest of the menu! A hidden gem. I never been here. Walked through the door, first thing that hits you are the checkered red and white Italian bistro table cloth uhh oh..what I getting myself into? Very reasonably priced, (7) in an order. These dumplings were packed with meaty goodness and held together very well. But the dipping sauce was extraordinary! A thick, stick to the dumpling delight and the perfect compliment to a wonderful dumpling! Then I moved on to the basil chicken lunch special. Ordered the hot and sour soup, which was yummy. Thick and creamy with little pieces of pork and firm tasty tofu strips. With the entree, you get an egg roll and cheese wonton. Egg roll was generic as egg rolls go, but OMG...I almost had the big one when I sank my chicklets into the Wonton! Fabulous! Actually saw crab meat (and tasted it) in the wonton. Hard to find in small Chinese bistros these days that serve up a legit wonton! They were on the mark! The basil Chicken was great, lots of protein and a healthy serving for lunch special! I work in sales and always on the road, I try new places to just try them. I never write reviews but had to for this hidden gem. I will always go back when in they vicinity. Walked in and it was empty. Not Sure why. They do alot of To Go orders. I ordered Sesame Chicken With Rice and Veggies and Spring Rolls. And the Menu has Chinese, and Japanese and Thai Offerings as well. The portions are huge, and came with a big bowl of white rice. For those of us who live in Wheat Ridge, there aren't many local options for Chinese delivery. I stumbled upon Chinese Gourmet thanks to Yelp, and I decided to give it a try to compare it with other local Chinese delivery options. The food is reasonably priced, though not as inexpensive as the nearby Tasty House Asian restaurant, which also delivers. However, I found that I enjoyed the food even more at Chinese Gourmet, and that the dishes were prepared more to my liking. For example, Chinese Gourmet offers sweet & sour dishes with the sauce on the side, whereas Tasty House Asian cooks the food in the sauce (and didn't make it on the side when I requested it). I ordered the pork fried rice, which was moist and offered lots of meat in addition to the surprising application of shredded lettuce. It wasn't too heavy on chunks of onion, which I am always glad to see. We also got sweet & sour chicken, which came with fresh vegetables and pineapple, though I would have liked to see more chicken and less produce. The sweet & sour sauce was pretty standard. The beef with broccoli was surprisingly tasty, and the sauce wasn't too syrupy or salty like it is with some Chinese delivery options. The broccoli wasn't as tough and uncooked as it often is, and the meat was pretty tender. I would rate that dish alone a 4/5, compared to other Chinese restaurants I have eaten at throughout the country. The General Tso's chicken is pricey, and it is pretty moderate in tanginess and spiciness. I try not to eat truly hot dishes, and I looted quite a bit of this dish from my husband's plate. The crab Rangoon/crab cheese wontons (I'm still never sure what to call these) came in an order of 6, but they were fairly good sized (see photos above). They were a good mix of crunchy and soft, without being terribly greasy. I do think that Tasty House Asian's wontons are preferable, though. All in all, I think that the Chinese Gourmet restaurant is a sold 4/5 Chinese delivery option in the Wheat Ridge area. The prices are reasonable, and the portions aren't terribly small, plus they deliver quickly. Certainly worth giving a shot, if you're in the area and want Chinese delivery on a cold winter night! read more

So we order our food over the phone he reads it back as I ordered it , but when I get it totally wrong , I ordered beef with extra snow peas and spicy instead I get extra beef and not spicy also wanted fried rice we got white rice . Ordered egg rolls maybe because we had a coupon for 2 free is why they where stone cold . . The beef lo mein was suppose to be spicy again no spice . This place used to be awesome but over the years it has declined steadily. Whats more is that I ordered online today. Waited an HOUR and a half, then called and was told that the driver would be right there. That is it, just that he'd be right there. I asked for a time estimate and he said "I don't know, the driver is slow". When the food arrives it's cold and disgusting. We threw most of it out after the first bite. When I called to complain the person on the phone told me he gave me a time estimate (which he did not) and then said "sorry the driver is slow, I cannot tell him to drive faster." LOVE this place. After having dinner here again tonight, I decided I would finally yelp them. We have had several sit-down lunches and dinners here and are never disapointed. Tonight we had Walnut Shrimp and Mongolian Triple Delight. Beautiful presentation on the shrimp with the plate lined with orange slices and pineapple chunks. Then shrimp with a nice tempura crust and thick, light colored sauce is piled in the center of the plate. Candied, roasted half walnuts sprinkled on top of all finishes the dish. Mongolian Triple includes chicken, beef and shrimp. Lots of onions on this one and the sauce on it is 'lish. Have also had Mongolian Beef (another dinner time) and it was so good that I think I have been craving it ever since. Oh well, got my fix tonight with the bonus of the other meats. We also got the Pu-Pu Platter. Your standard Pu-Pu with ribs, beef on the stick, fried shrimp, cheese wontons, chick wings, and spring rolls. Oh, and we also got an order of Pot Stickers (fried) and they are very good. I think it was 6 stickers for $4.95. Our entrees tonight were only $9.95 each. Pu-Pu Platter is $9.95 for two people. You just can't really go wrong here. Their menu is extensive and they always have a lunch and dinner special on the chalk board. Our waitress, whether at lunch or dinner, always seems to be Cindy. Tucked around the corner of King Soopers this place is pretty good. Usually we go for the lunch combo plates. Quite reasonable and prompt. Just recently moved from the east coast (Maryland) to Denver. I have never had Chinese food outside of Maryland so I do not know if it's usually done this way elsewhere. My first Chinese experience was here. We ordered delivery. The man on the phone wasn't the nicest but he wasn't terrible either, just a little rushed and not trying to answer questions. We ordered two dinner specials. The sesame chicken and chicken and broccoli with egg rolls and wonton soup, and both fried and steamed rice. The chicken and broccoli was not the worst I have ever has but the sauce was I guess really oily so it separated and I was unable to pour the sauce over my rice because it was all of the oil coming out and not the actual brown sauce. Disappointing because that's my favorite part. The chicken was pretty good and the brown part of the brown sauce was sticking to the chicken and broccoli so it tasted fine. The wonton soup was also not the best. I'm not a huge salt fan but my boyfriend is. I thought they were too salty and he thought they were fine. The egg rolls were not what I am used to. They looked more like spring rolls... Someone has posted a picture of them. I did not try them because I do not like the type of bread(?) that they are wrapped in. I'm used to a larger crispier roll and not rice paper type. My boyfriend liked them though. He got the fried rice and said it was basically flavorless and just like steamed rice. His liked the sesame chicken because it was in smaller pieces and he didn't need to cut them to eat. All in all we are going to try some other places and see what results we get. If nothing else works out it was not bad enough for us to scratch off the list completely. The prices weren't horrible. Ours was a total of $24 for a lot of food. Portions are pretty big. read more

Let's cut to the chase - Chinese Gourmet is pretty good - just like a dozen or a dozen and a half other Chinese restaurants within a 10 mile radius from West Colfax and Quail in Lakewood. There is one thing (probably only one) that stands out about Chinese Gourmet - Chinese lanterns adorned with Snoopy and Woodstock above some of the tables - the decor is otherwise pretty nondescript, but the Snoopy lanterns are very cool. Otherwise, it's pretty much like many, probably most of its adjacent competitors. Close your eyes and listen to the following description. Food quality is fine. Menu options are many and include a Thai menu as well as Chinese. The lunch menu is a particularly good value - a little under $6 to a little over $6 for soup, eggroll, rice and entree. Full size entrees at night can be ordered ala carte or for $1.50 or $2.00 per person more you can get soup and an eggroll or crab wontons along with your entree. Serving sizes are large - you're likely to take home some of every entree you order. Jasmine tea is served in the little metal teapot. Your bill ultimately arrives on the plastic tray along with a fortune cookie for each member in your party. Sounds pretty much like about 50 other Chinese restaurants you've been to, doesn't it? None of this is a criticism. There are legion Chinese Gourmets all over the country. Most of them are pretty forgettable but the good news is that when you want some at least average Chinese food for a fair price, it's never far away. And just to prove my point I'm probably going to copy and paste this same review time and again as I visit Chinese Gourmet's countless brothers and sisters. read more

I cannot fathom how this place is rated so high. I spent 24 clams on stringy shrimp fried rice, crab cheese wontons and a vat of K-rab asparagus soup. First off, the shrimp was tragic. An excellent example of what you're hoping you don't get when you order shrimp at a Chinese place. The vegetables seemed like they were from the Carter administration, shriveled carrots and peas with little to no nutritional value. The 'crabmeat' soup was imitation K-rab and a true crime against humanity. I wouldn't eat K-rab if I was dying, and you shouldn't either. The 'broth' if you can call it that, was basically glue, a complete outrage. As far as the wontons, they were edible but I fear they also contain K-rab, terrifying. I'm giving it one star because they serve food that contains calories, but if you have any respect for yourself, how could you eat here. This is my second Yelp review. The service was slow, but our server was friendly. The sesame chicken was pretty good. I had the Szechuan beef. It was decent, but it was so salty, I could only about half of it. This place was awesome 20 years ago. Now it's terrible. I went for this first time in several years after getting my nails done next door since I wanted a quick lunch. I decided to go with the Mongolian beef which in the old days was mostly meat and not many veggies. This was the worst experience I have had there. The egg drop soup was pretty much just broth. The egg roll was undercooked and barely had any filling. The rice had no flavor. The Mongolian beef would have been better off named Mongolian onions because there was barely any meat but plenty of onions. I left still hungry. This place has ok Chinese food for delivery and pickup. Whenever I want wontons I call them up. No one is ever in the restaurant, but they obviously do a lot of takeout. The fried rices I've had here were good, the noodle dishes also good, however the beef dishes for me were not that great. read more

The driver took an hour and a half to get my food to me and of course it was cold by then. The driver left the gate to my yard open and let my 2 dogs out all night.
