Star towed my son's car out of a lot next to Liangs Kitchen last Saturday night. They gouged him $310 to get his car back. They refuse to give information with regards to who called and why. A woman named Yoli answered the phones and said the GM Rez wasn't available. I asked for the next level supervisor or owner and was told there wasn't any, it's a corporation. I asked for the number to said corporation and she there wasn't one. She kept telling me it was a corporation and did not have a phone. Hmmm. Is Rez the owner? No, he's the GM. He'll call you back. Star charged $178 for the tow, $48 for a jack, $48 for storage, and $30 something for a gate fee. All of this for parking in a space that had no street signs or lot directions/rules from TWO personnel working in the lot (both who lied about who called). My son was there eating for no more than an hour 15. The only marker was on a curb block that is hidden when you pull into the space. I have very little doubt Star pays restaurants or lot attendants to call them right away so they can all share in the profits. The car was retrieved in less than two hours, yet Star found it necessary to GOUGE and OVERCHARGE my son for the aforementioned fees. This is a criminal racket that needs to be regulated. No one should have to suffer such an experience because they ate at a restaurant and parked in a spot for one hour. Star calls themselves the #1 towing company in San Diego. Yeah. Number one alright, in criminal rates. Not to mention the scratches left on my son's bumper from towing. read more

VERY BAD BUYING EXPERIENCE. A friend needed a car. Saw ad by Star Towing. Drove her from Oceanside to the tow yard. She bought a 2005 Chevy Malibu. Took it to smog and it failed. Had work done. It failed again. Had more work done. It again failed. Càlled Ray about buying another car, a Mercury Milan he had advertised. Told him about problems with the Malibu. He said to bring it in. She did. Ray took her to a smog center where he knows an employee/owner. Ten minutes later, she was given a smog certificate. Hmmmm? She then told Ray she would be driving back up to Oceanside to get me, as I really wanted to buy the Milan. (Advertisement & sign in his office window says open til 4pm) Got back at 3:40pm and Ray was gone. No else could sell any cars. 150 mile round trip wasted. Incredible. SO, I TOOK THE MALIBU TO THREE SMOG SHOPS LOCALLY, (the next morning), AND IT FAILED ALL THREE TIMES. Am told the center Ray took her to, did an illegal smog, and she will have more problems next time smog is due. AM NOW WAITING ON PAPERWORK TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE (B.A.R.) Car was towed from my own building I have a lease on and when picking it up the jerk at the front started smirking the minute we got there. When asked if the car was at least flat bedded they said it can't be if it's in a parking garage. Did you connect it in the front. Yes on the tires and rims. So I proceed to look at find this to a car that was recently detailed without a single scratch as I am into my cars including my Porsche and trucks and to hear them say it was there when we picked it up seemed more then crazy but when they suggest that they took pictures before the tow then to say they don't have to show the picture to finally say nobody offered you the pictures and we don't have to show it to you. Who would feel good about this experience. The guy with the beard records you on his front chair and laughs saying they do this for entertainment. I would think they do it cause they're indecent scums of the earth or just out of incarceration. No resume required. Shoot for the stars or end up working at Star Towing lying to keep BBB off their pathetic business. Good job! read more

Just because a company is "one of the largest"..doesn't automatically make them one of the more ethical. Star Towing enters onto private property at our condo project and tows people from the curb sides. They also routinely charge an extra fee...claiming they're not open to release your car. read more

Last Friday I was in an unfortunate car accident on the freeway; my car hydroplaned and sent me down an embankment... Long story short, my car is totaled. Star towing came to the rescue in a matter of minutes. Not only did a driver arrive quickly, he was able to get my car out out of the embankment (while raining!) and cleared the side of the road of any debris. I would highly recommend them to anyone. Seems like a lot of feedback is based on the fact that Star Tow is San Diego Police impounds official tow company. So they get negative feedback because of that. Dont blame the tow company for your car getting towed when was reported by the Police. Star Towing, despite being required to adhere to the highest standards of towing excellence due to its *lucrative* contract with the City of San Diego, proves no exception to the rule. The employee behind the window ignored me when I tapped at the window. I waited, he continued to ignore, I tapped some more, ignored. You get the point. Finally I called from my cell phone, watched him pick up the phone and was immediately hung up on. There were no other customers. He was eating a sandwich. When he finally came to the window he lectured me about "patience". Right. You take it, because they have your car. Then you write a letter to your City Councilman, because they make the contract with the towing yards that treat you like crap because they have your car. Why two stars, instead of one? Monday I needed a tow from Irvine to downtown SD (don't ask why I'm already out of my THREE AAA Premier Membership tows!!), I didn't know who to call. Made a couple of calls on the spot asking for referrals, crossed my fingers, then gave these guys a call. BTW, don't you hate it when you're in a jam and people think it's the best time to "catch up" or ask about your car like they're gonna magically appear and fix it...or for that matter, understand what's actually wrong (no disrespect to chicks that aren't into cars). They're based out of San Diego but apparently they had a truck close by delivering a high-end car somewhere within 15 miles. Whew, glad I didn't have to call and text my buddies again! Mike showed up about 20 mins later in a huge flatbed rig. I was surprised it was so clean, I've always had the impression tow trucks and their drivers are dirty and nasty...not at all! Surprisingly we chit chatted about cars for a couple of mins, he assured me that he's worked on all sorts of cars and he's going to be very careful. I've had a lot of tows in my life (nice high-end cars and some pretty bad beaters), but it was a nice change to hear that from the driver...kinda of gives you a sense that they have empathy and may actually care about what they're doing. Plus, I always fee like a jerk when I have to say something like, "PLEASE BE CAREFUL." Whatever it is, management or Mike himself, I'm glad I went with these guys. My buddy swore by them and now I know why. Drive down to SD was enjoyable and the cabin was clean! I'd imagine they aren't the cheapest, but I'm a firm believer in, you get what you pay for. I have been HIT!! so after all the phone calls gotta get a tow. Star was near and there to tow my car in 30min.(+4)as they gave me a time frame. The driver was polite(+3). The truck very clean(+3). The drop of...left it at an awkward angle(-3). Then as he rolloed it back onto the lot...ugh the screeching of my dropped muffler, and possible more damage shoving it in a wrong direction(-5) duude!and then after he left my cc# was big as day on the reciept(privacy!!!piracy!!)(-5). that should add up about right.hmmmm will have to ask my auto service co. who they recommend should I ever be in a bind again. read more

Hopefully never have to deal with again. I accidentally locked my keys in the car in the shopping center 15 feet or so from STAR Towing. I walked over and explained the problem and they told me that someone would be right over to help me. An hour passes and finally a guy shows up. Doesn't have the correct tool to get into my car so he goes back and then 30 minutes later returns. Two seconds of putting the jimmy in the door and it unlocks. For two seconds of work and making me wait an hour and a half he tells me it will be $90!!!! WTF!? He didn't have to drive over and makes me wait 90 minutes and expects $90? He also only accepts cash. Unfortunately all I have on me is $40 and no ATM in the area. He takes the $40 and he's off. No receipt or anything! Some shady stuff I tell you. I also despise the fact that they're allowed to park their vehicles all over the street that Mitsuwa and In N' Out are on. You can't see traffic coming when you leave the Mitsuwa shopping center and you can't make a U-Turn at the light, because they park their vehicles in the way! It really should be illegal to park trucks in that location, because like I mentioned, you can't see traffic coming. So if you accidentally lock your keys in your car, don't call STAR towing! If they expected $90 to walk 15 feet, just imagine what they charge to come to you! read more

The one star rating is not necessarily for the place itself but it is for the worker that was behind the window when we came. When we first knocked, she did not answer us. After a few more times she finally shouted from her seat to see what we needed and then shouted to a guy in the back to open to door for my friend to go get his car. When we found out that his name wasn't registered on his car, we asked what we could do. She RUDELY answered and told us the steps which were not clear and got frustrated after a while. She also failed to know the reason why they charged us for certain things on the bill . . . All in all, she wasn't helpful at all and had a bad attitude. It is already a pain to be someone who got towed so even a little understanding from her would have been nice. read more

Star Towing is a great tow company and businesses use this company all the time! I am a business owner who has used them to tow a cars for us for collision repair. One tow the key was with the owner in another city. They were able to tow the car to us while we waited for the owner to drop off the key. Their customer service is wonderful and the dispatcher is a doll! I couldn't have asked for anyone sweeter and more helpful. Thanks Star Towing we will be using you again! Ps. As a note to anyone leaving valuables in your car when getting a service done, towing, car wash etc. it is not the companies responsibility to keep those safe. If you leave something that ends up not there its not the companies fault, they aren't responsible for your irresponsibility in keeping your belongings safe...you are. So lock them up in the trunk glove box, give them a valet key and if those are broken into then okay but otherwise you take care of those things...just a friendly note. ;) read more

I had the unfortunate need for help the other day. My car just took a dump on the freeway. Lost all power and coasted to the side of the freeway. Star towing came to the rescue and got my car to the dealership without any issue. The driver (sorry I forgot his name, I this is was Reza or Ryan) was polite and actually cared about my car. I have had HORRIBLE Expereince with other tow companies. The driver made sure the front bumper didn't scrap or the wheels get scratched. Thank you Mr. tow truck driver. Star Towing should be a last resort effort to towing your vehicle. The tow truck arrived approximately 30 minutes after I called, just as they said it would. The driver seemed hurried and kind of shady. He didn't want to talk much, just wanted to get in and get out. He got my car up quick and was ready to go, but then had to wait 20+ minutes for the dispatch to run my card. During this time he complained about how frequently it happens and that the chick didn't know what she was doing. He then assured me he would get $10 knocked off the total for the inconvenience. It never happened, they still charged me the full amount. Other then that, everything went as planned. Though I am quite certain I will never use these guys again. read more

There are a lot of company's out there to chose from but this is one I will never use again. MONEY GRABBERS!!!!!!! They sign contracts with homeowners associations and shopping areas. Then they cruise the lots continually looking for the most minor thing they can tow you for. I talked to the person who's place I was at and he said they don't tow for that if there is nowhere else to park. I parked behind his garage off the street except about 18" in a red zone. To my surprise when I came out my car was gone. Phone battery about dead. I had to carry all my equipment about 2 miles to get where a cabbie could find me since it is a new area not on their maps yet. I have breathing problems. Then half way thru the walk it started raining so I got soaked. My jacket and tablet and extra phone battery were in my car. I finally got a cab which cost $30.00 with tip. The tow company charged me $257.00 to get my car back. REALLY???? They towed it maybe 7 miles and stored it for maybe 3 hours and office paperwork maybe 5 minutes...... Then even though I had the keys they insisted on seeing my registration, drivers license and for what? As far as I'm concerned it is legal extortion. I will never use this company. very low scrupples. legal theft of my car and exorbitant fees. I accidentally gave them 1 star and can't seem to erase it. They deserve no stars. read more

This is the first YELP review I have ever written. The incompetence and pure laziness demonstrated by Star Towing today has me furious. They were instructed: Here is my company's address, walk-in, ask for my President, he will give you the key and point out the car to you. Then take it to Hoehn Mercedes Service. Hoehn Mercedes called them as well and told them the same thing. Later Star texted me that they are 5 minutes out. Great I thought. 2 hours later, the people in my company are telling me "We have not seen or heard from the towing company." I call Star and a terse woman immediately put me on hold for 5 minutes. After she answered the phone with a grumble that implied "Now what is your problem!" I explain to her the situation. She said "Yeah, we showed up, called you, you did not answer so we left." "I was on a call and you left no voicemail. Plus it was not a San Diego area code. Why did you not walk into my office as I instructed?" "Because you did not answer the phone." "You mean your driver was too lazy to extract himself from the truck and walk in as I instructed?" "You did not answer your phone." "What does that have to do with ignoring my directions and talking to the person who I told you to talk with? Our company's door is always open." "You didn't answer your phone, we won't go back and tow your car unless Mercedes calls us back and tells us to do so. We have closed that ticket and only Hoehn Mercedes can open another one" What happened after that was a slew of profanities that I am frankly not proud of. But as someone who runs a business, I know bad service when I see it. And this was the highest level of incompetence, ignorance, rudeness and just being flat out lazy I have seen in years. I let my buddy take my car one night. He's new to San Diego and doesn't have one. Of course, it gets towed. I wasn't happy. I took my girls car and my buddy to go get my car back. Do to the little information I had on me and in my car I didn't think we were getting it back that day. Thank goodness for *Marianna* she did everything she could to make sure we got our car. Took a little longer then expected and we still had to pay a fee to get it out (which was discounted thanks to Marianna). But honestly the way things were looking we weren't going to have a car at all. Marianna made it happen. Very greatful for her, with my schedule I really don't know when I would have been able to go back and get it! But she made it happen. No one likes a towing company... don't park like an idiot. Very Unsatisfied customer on 11/9/2022. Me and my girlfriend had our car at the Star Towing Yard. We spoke with one of the workers that answer the phone after 5pm and she had a very nasty attitude and wouldn't let me, or my fiancé get a sincere question out concerning our vehicle. she was rude and put her job at stake for being self-centered and not having adequate customer service. We called to Star Towing before we arrived at 4:40 and got to the window before 5pm. she charged us a late fee which was another $130.00 dollars on top of the $430.00 we owed. and she laughed saying you better get the money before we charge you another day which was unprofessional cause we made it to that window before 5pm. So, we paid the late fee, and she forged a fictitious name on the paperwork we have the copy that the owners going to be devastated of the lady's communication skills and work ethics. Yes, at Star Towing. you can't talk reasonable with someone who's lacking education and Ghetto at a million-dollar business. I asked for the manager's name, and they wouldn't give it to us and gave a short name Yola which was ridiculous. Cause we wanted to get that late fee waived since we made it to the Window before 5pm. *Refund* that $130.00 dollars and a letter to the Better Business Bureau because we recorded the incident. at the window.
