I hate to leave a bad review, but after years of loyalty and daily visits, I can't stay silent anymore. This Starbucks has deteriorated so much over the past four years that we now go out of our way to avoid it. Our family drinks 3-6 café mochas daily--yes, we're coffee lovers, and this used to be our go-to spot. Not anymore. The customer service has become so poor that I now refuse to step foot inside. We've started driving further to the Gelson's location just to escape the bad attitudes and miserable staff here. The final straw came two weeks ago. I sent my 9-year-old daughter in to grab our drinks (we do this all the time), and she politely asked the barista for a cup of water. Instead of kindness, she was snapped at and told she had to wait in line so they could "ring it in." There were four grown men in line. She was obviously uncomfortable and came out upset. I went in to talk to the barista myself, and she doubled down--completely unapologetic and rude. No compassion. No acknowledgment. Just a cold, condescending response like, "Tell her to wait in line." She knows us. We've been regulars here for years. To treat a child like that over a cup of water is appalling. Beyond that, the drinks are consistently awful. Burnt. Barely filled. A "venti" is often the size of a grande. There's no care or pride in anything they do anymore. It's honestly sad--this used to be a warm, welcoming place where we enjoyed spending time as a family. Now it feels cold, unfriendly, and stressful. The staff are rude, disengaged, and clearly don't want to be there. If you're looking for good coffee and decent service, you're better off anywhere else. Highly deceptive practice of filling drinks 2/3 of the way up unless the customer pays extra. When I took my daughters here before school and my daughter ordered a strawberry drink the staff member pointed to 2/3rd the way up on the cup and said "this is where we fill it unless you pay extra." When I mentioned something to the staffer she responds "oh i just work here i dont make the rules". The manager was 10 feet away and overheard and ran away at this. They claim it's since covid, yet they don't seem to have an issue handling cash (which we all know if filthy) to directly handling food and putting lids on coffee with bare hands where your mouth goes. Every time I come to this location, although there are ton of workers, they never say hello and looked very stressed out. This doesn't happen at any other location that I go and I travel all over the world. I get the same drink and they continuously make the drink wrong and then get angry when I asked them to make the drink the way I ordered it. This is definitely a busy Starbucks located at the La Costa Town Square. I stopped in to kill some time and get some work down, not to mention down a Grande Caffe Misto made with a dark roast and 2% milk. The caffe misto was well made and was smooth and rich. Service was a little rushed buy friendly and certainly appropriate for such a busy place. One thing I do recommend is that they clean more often. I had to clean my own table and there was plenty of other cleaning to be had. The building is of a decent size with seating inside and outside but the inside get packed easily. read more

The drinks are fine but there is one lady with blonde hair who has TERRIBLE customer service. My friends and I have been going there for years and have had enough! She takes a personal offense when someone asks for a straw or utensils. She is constantly throwing them at customers instead of handing it to them or even setting it on the counter for them. This particular location is one of the nicest all around Starbucks that I have ever been in as the place is immaculate and the service is extremely good. I was the only person ordering, few other customers chilling at tables, there were 3 girls, one took my order and another one made my drinks, while third one just chatted away. Girl that did my drinks looked new, she took forever to prepare ice green tea and Starbucks double shot.. you can tell she was nervous, she took forever measuring my ice and counting espresso shots, she asked the other girl who appeared to be free how to do my drink, that girl told her really fast but never actually helped her.. all 3 saw me awkwardly standing there waiting for my drink and yet they didn't help the girl to make my drinks faster. Anywhere but here. Came in to get a quick coffee and ordered the new Clover coffee, shocker... it's a plain coffee with no hints of citrus or cocoa whatsoever. The service was not friendly so I didn't even bother to ask for another, it just seem like she was a teenager who didn't want to be there since they want to close early. I usually don't give reviews, but this was unacceptable. Oh, she also charged me $6 rather than 5.50, small difference but I care about the attitude and respect. I adore this Starbucks for many reasons, even though it's taken me over 45 visits to write a review. The drinks and food have always been on par and sometimes above par. At first I didn't feel that the staff/baristas wanted to get to know their community of customers. But that time is over, friendliness exudes through my favorite Starbucks establishment. They make every effort to ask your name, recall your name, and when appropriate spark up conversations. They offer the order ahead option using your Starbucks app. Super easy, just make sure that your desired location is selected- the app sometimes chooses your closest SB location as a default. Be careful that it isn't sent to the wrong SB! My La Costa/Rancho Santa Fe location has a Clover machine, which makes them unique. The Clover Brewing System allows the barista to brew a single perfectly brewed coffee. Depending on the type of coffee bean you choose the use the proper water brewing temperature and brewing time to make an awesome brewed coffee. Some of my favorite Baristas work in the morning. Anna & Daniel are rockstars! The parking in front of the store isn't the best. But there is plenty of room to park in the back of the store as well as on the sides near The Habit.
