I review these starbucks because I own stock in the company, so I like to buy at places I have ownship in plus I find they do a good, not perfect, job of consistentcy. Hello, upon entering the Starbucks my friend ACCIDENTALLY knocked over a sign. My friend was terribly embarrassed and asked for help . However, It took three minutes for a co worker to assist us after staring for a couple minutes and there was no one in line. We walk up to the counter to which we are treated awfully. The barista Skyler was blatantly laughing and speaking to us in a condescending tone. I have never had such an awful Starbucks experience. Usually the baristas are so full of life! So I've visited this Starbucks every so often over the past view years. I've always had great service and all of the staff have been extremely friendly. A few days ago they had a few new employees training. My espresso shots got lost in a mix of drinks (it was really busy) which I totally understand, especially with new trainees. What I really appreciated was when the manager noticed, she apologized and let me know that she was going to re-pull the shots since they had been sitting there for a while. That was a very positive experience. However right now I can only give 3 stars because of my visit today. I went in and asked for 2 shots of espresso on ice in my own travel mug. The cashier tried to ask me what size my cup was so she could charge me for the cup. What??? Dude, Starbucks gives a discount if you bring your own cup. Also 2 shots of espresso is 2 shots of espresso, who cares if I gave you a tiny cup or a giant 40-oz thing? I finally told her that on my past visits, 2 shots of espresso was $2.15. She did agree to charge me that but she was pretty grumpy and immediately started playing on her smartphone. I don't know who these new employees are. Forgetting an order when it's very busy is totally understandable and that was resolved very nicely. Trying to rip me off and charge extra because I brought my own cup sucks. Until today I have only met friendly staff members and I hope this isn't changing. read more

Okay I'm going to write a review on Starbucks. I know there's a different one each block you walk, but I like the people that work at this one. The staff is always friendly, helpful and seem to enjoy their job. If you want to stand and look at the menu for 10 minutes they don't care, they go about their business and then when you're ready they're there to help you. I come here on the weekends to do work and study but I'm thinking I need to find another coffee shop, even though this one is literally across the street from my apartment and has great wifi. The weekend staff here are really unprofessional. I just went to order a cup of coffee and the barista asked, "Yo, what's up?" to ask me for what I want. The staff also seems very immature and are obnoxious when there's no one there. It's a small place with no bathroom and when it's slow, they're yelling and speaking so loud, as if they're trying to get everyone to pay attention to this show they're trying to put on. Although the staff is friendly, I can't understand why this Starbucks is consistently understaffed on the weekends and why it looks like they are all going to have a heart attack trying to keep up with drink orders streaming in from demanding, under-caffeinated customers. This particular Starbucks has amazing customer service. I love the staff, the energy, the smiles, and the kindness in general, (the 'kindness' - just let that word steep in your customer service tea for a moment... KINDNESS) displayed here to each and every customer I've ever seen them wait on. They seem excited to work together, to work for the company, AND seem happy about the products, especially the new ones. On some of these super cold and snowie days I have walked the 1/3 of a block here at times almost more excited to see the warm smiles more than the warm coffee. Chicago is a city where Starbucks are so abundant that they're practically a natural resource. That being said, this location is my absolute favorite. This Starbucks is a nice location. I've only gone here in the mornings, so I can only attest to the morning staff. I always get service with a smile and a friendly welcome. Not a huge fan of Starbucks in general, but I come to this location because the good customer service makes up for it. I feel quite often that customer service is hard to find these days, but this location is an exception. The bad part is that there is no restroom! I'm a longtime Starbucks customer. I converted when I started working near the Starbucks on Foster at Sawyer near North Park University six years ago. The staff there is funny, friendly, and gets my order ready every morning when they see me. During that time, I rarely visited the Broadway and Roscoe location because it is so small and so busy all the time. Then came the mobile app! I could order ahead of time, I thought, and breeze in, avoid the line and the chatter, and be on my way. It works at the Foster/Sawyer location like a charm. They have their own counter for mobile orders and a receipt under each. They also still say hi to me and call me by name as I grab and go. It also works well at Clark and Belmont. I am in and out of a store that can sometimes be a little, um, crazy. So I thought the Broadway and Roscoe location would work the same. WRONG. I've tried using the mobile app multiple times. Whether there's a long line or no line when I approach the corner by the cash register, no one looks up at me. So I wait politely. No eye contact no matter how many people are behind the counter. Without fail, I have to interrupt a customer at the cash register to say I have a mobile order before I can get it. Last week when I ordered two regular coffees -- both with cream and one with sugar too -- I was told -- after having to ask about my order -- that they could only do coffee. They don't do special additives because 1) they're really busy, and 2) they don't have cream or sugar behind the counter. I'm not kidding. So I got to wait for my order, have to ask for my mobile order, then be told I had to go fight the crowd to finish my mobile order on my own. When I suggested they create a pick up spot for orders, I was told that it wouldn't work because customers might take the wrong order. Today, I tried again. Grande dark roast with cream. I waited at the counter by a barista and someone at the register. No one looked at me. I walked to the other end and said I had a mobile order. "Got it. It just came in," I was told. Then I watched 3 customers go through the line, order, pay, and get their orders while I stood waiting -- for my mobile order. So I said again, "I have a mobile order." The barista told me as if it was perfectly obvious that the dark roast was brewing and it would be a minute. I said, "That's fine. Can you just tell me that while I'm waiting here so I'll know?" I've increased my Starbucks business because of the app. I'm not ready to give up on the entire company because I really like the one by my work, but I am DONE with the Broadway and Roscoe location. I thought the app would change things, but clearly that store feels this new service is not for them. I'd rather get a message saying, "Sorry, our mobile app doesn't work at this location," or something to that effect. At least I wouldn't feel offended and frustrated by simply using a service that seems to work beautifully at other locations but not at this store. If I'm going to wait, I'm heading to Coffee & Tea on Broadway and Aldine. At least there, I know I'm supporting a local business that I and lots of other people love. read more

I have been going to this Starbucks for a couple of years. I live right around the corner so it is an easy 5 minute walk for me. I would come here sometimes in the morning on my way to work or would come on the weekends to read. The product of course is fine. I got a little burnt out on the coffee though. However, the real reason I no longer go and for the 2 stars is the staff. The main manager there has her moments when she is super sweet, friendly, and remembers my name and then other moments she seems overwhelmed, gruff, abrupt, and, frankly, kinda rude. I have had one too many moments with her when she is kinda snappy/snippy like a mean grade school teacher if I do not blurt my order out in 1/2 second. Only one of the managers there is consistently great, friendly, remembers my name and drink, and acts professionally.Kinda ironic that I do not remember her name - I think she is the assistant manager with redish hair. The rest of the staff is unacceptable by comparison to other Starbucks locations. There are constantly new people who are learning and training. The location is incredibly busy so they really should staff with more experienced personnel. To echo comments from some other reviews, there is a certain amount of immaturity amongst the staff. I also have found a few of them to be very standoffish, snobby, and acting as though they cannot be bothered. Perhaps they are unaware of how they are coming off due to the busy nature of the store. However, good training and experienced people can manage this just fine. I have seen it at other locations. I strongly suspect this behavior is permitted given my statements about the main manager. Finally, they are woefully slow and inefficient. Like others have observed, they do not staff appropriately at the register or the barista station. Every single time I have come here, I have noticed one or more employees - who were clearly not on break - milling about in the back, walking around in the store restocking already well stocked shelves, and in some instances just looking around trying to remember what was next on their task list. This is poor management. It is the rare occasion that people stepped up to the register or the barista stand to expedite the orders. When regularly 10+ cups were lined up for one barista (quite often a new one), the management team should take a closer look at what is going on. Whenever I order an espresso based drink, it literally takes 5-10 minutes every single time. This is also why I started only ordering coffee. I have had similar experiences at 6AM in the morning when only 2-3 other people were ahead of me. Completely unacceptable. Consequently, I avoid this place now and bought my own coffeemaker for home because I found it to be such a waste of time and unfriendly experience, in general. To be clear, there are a handful who work there who are great! However, the vast majority need to receive better customer service training and efficiency training. read more

This Starbucks is on my dog walking route so I stop in occasionally and I've always had a pretty standard experience. My drinks or food has always been fine but I've noticed a few times when I've been in that one barista in particular has OUTSTANDING customer service and deserves to be commended. After coming in today, I noticed his name was Luke. He is always so nice and friendly and he really deserves 5 stars for his customer service!
