I have been visiting the store since it opened and I have enjoyed every visit regardless of whether I order at the Drive-Thru or inside at the counter. I have never ordered on the app and I doubt I ever will. Sometimes, as other reviewers have noted, the Drive-Thru line is long, because this is the only Starbucks in the immediate area. Even with the crowd of customers, however, the staff at this location has always been very friendly and focused on moving people through the lines as quickly as possible, at both the counter (inside) or the Drive-Thru (outside). The staff people always go out of their way to ask if everything is set, and they are particularly kind and friendly toward the dogs that I sometimes have in the vehicle with me, usually offering treats for the dogs and taking a moment to say "hello" to them. So nice. In addition, the inside of this Starbucks is well lit and roomy, and it has plenty of seating and tables. There, guests can study, read, use laptops and other devices, or just relax. The staff seems to welcome people who want a quiet place so it seems to be a welcoming place for everyone. Overall, this is one of the best Starbucks locations I've visited, and I've been to a lot. me and my friend were having a lovely day at the mall-until we weren't... we walked up to the starbucks, very excited for a SPECIAL treat. when we walked up to the counter, the guy was immediately mixed up, giving us the change from the previous person. then, he asked what we wanted. two caramel ribbon frappuccino's, venti. he looked at us, then down at his money, silence. pause wait wait still waiting eventually he looked back up, asking again "what can i get for you today?" astonishing we answered, the same thing again when i went to give him the money, he shouted at us to push the X on the card machine. we did so. silence ..... then he accepted the cash later, when we went to the side to wait, it took about twenty minutes. twenty minutes for two drinks. deteriorating our time. when making the drink, a different worker used too much whipped cream in one of the cups, when he put the lid on, the whipped cream spilled everywhere. he wiped it off with his hands which looked unwashed. HEALTH HAZARD. when he FINALLLYYY gave us the drinks, we had to do the work of wiping the sticky, grub like Carmel and whipped cream, off the cup. which were not even fully cleaned. this is not a customers responsibility!! i don't mean to be a Karen but this was astonishing and somewhat atrocious. bad service, gross, health hazards, i gave it two stars because the drink tasted okay. and im sure the workers meant well but.. no .. no . no. .... read more

The good: the staff were friendly, and the cappuccino up to Starbucks standards. The bad: I walked in, and it took quite some time before someone took my order. The ugly: this store is Starbucks re-envisioned to be a fast-food drive through. If you're looking for a drive through coffeeshop and have the Starbucks app, this could be your new favorite place. If you want a place to sit for a few minutes to have a coffee and plan your day, there are much nicer alternatives very near by. Context: I was young back when Starbucks rolled across the land, displacing the cheap bitter brew that was ubiquitous. Don't fill cups full, and service is spotty - with some being great and others awful. This is one of the few Starbucks in the Five College area so it gets BUSY. If you're in the drive-thru line after 5ish when everyone gets out of work, you're probably going to be stuck in a long line for about 15-25 minutes. They change their furniture around quite often but the way they have it set up right now is my favorite. It easier to find seats and we aren't on top of people. The staff is kind and they work as quick as they can. I can't remember a time where they've made my drink wrong. Had never had such a bad experience at a Starr bucks in my life, i put a mobile order in, wait time said 3-6 mins, i arrived at about 8 mins, thinking it should of been done, not at all, there was a line of about 20 pple all waiting for there coffees, and only 2 baristas making them. One person on drive thru and another at the register in side both standing there doing nothing, they where so under staffed. I waited about 25 mins before i went up to the register to cancel my order, because i was already late to work, not even an apology for the delay. I typically stay away from writing negative reviews, but after consistent poor performance from the staff (messing up orders repeatedly, attitude, etc.), I feel bad for whoever gets coffee from this location. Service is extremely slow (as in wait ~1 hour to get **one** cup of coffee). I get it-- The staff is tired, but with the profit this Starbucks is making (being the only Starbucks next to a HUGE college campus), they should be hiring more staff. I could not recommend this place enough. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, the music is lovely, and the selection of merchandise is top notch! I downloaded yelp just to make this review; I'd give it TEN stars if I could! My barista (Erin her name tag said) was so fast I could barely keep up with my eyes. Order ahead. Just order ahead. If you go inside your order will be superseded by virtually all mobile orders. I ordered two simple lattes and it took nearly fifteen minutes to get them. I wasn't the only one who waited this long, as there were a good ten or so customers also waiting nearly as long, while mobile order users walked right up and got theirs. Again, morale of the story for this particular location is if you want your drink quickly, just order ahead. And no, the drinks were not that good anyways. Coffee is great, but wait and prices just keep getting more and more ridiculous. If I haven't ordered ahead it's either 25 minutes in the drive thru or at least 15 inside. They let you place your order and pay without making you aware that there are 100 mobile orders for people who aren't even there that will be made before they can make you a simple black coffee. Never go here. This location has everything wrong with it. Inconsistent staff, meaning sometimes they are friendly (if you even manage to see the same person twice) or filled with disdainful attitude. Yuck. The drive-through causes terrible problems for the inside shop, meaning their attention always seems to be split between the outside window and the inside customers. The logistics are horrible. I've never gotten my drink in less than 5 minutes with many people waiting in line in front of the GARBAGE station. Ewww. The counter space is tiny and tends to have spills on it. I have often waited, with over 6 other people in line, for 10 minutes. Why do people come here? My biggest complaint is with the way they charge me for my custom-made drink. I was charged a whopping SIX DOLLARS AND FIFTEEN CENTS for a medium decaf coffee frappacino because I get it without their [disgusting, fake-flavored, and fake-sweetened emulsifier] pre-mix and instead add 4 or 5 pumps of simple syrup. Why does this cost be almost 2 dollars more? I can't figure it out and the manager tells me he HAS to charge me even if other locations don't. WHA WHA WHA? Say that again? At all other locations, I am not charged extra for the pumps of syrup. It makes no sense and WTF? Corporate or not? Human-thinking or not? Not sure. He said he has to ask the regional store (or some other such rot which I don't give a rats ass about) in Springfield if they should be charging or not, but whatevs. I stopped going in here for a few months after really shitty service and long lines. I tried again recently to go in, but I'm done. They may stay in business only because Americans find this to be a convenient location and we are all addicted to our coffee. Even the goofy location in Noho is better than this. Downtown Amherst has my heart though. They are sweet, accommodating, curious, never overcharge (making human decisions by humans, not some mythic, distant corporate head who has no idea what's going on on the ground). Literally the worst Starbucks experience I've ever had. First off, when ordering, the barista didn't fully understand my order (a basic dark chocolate almond nitro cold brew), so she made a guess and put in what she thought I had said. I caught that and corrected it, but things got even worse waiting for the order. There was only one or two people working on the inside orders, and literally were the slowest people I've ever encountered working in a coffee shop. I could have flown to Costa Rica, picked and roasted my own beans faster. My husband and I were in line for over half hour, and there was only 2 people in front of us. Rude employees, overly complicated pickup system. There was no one at the "front counter" where I was apparently supposed to ask for my pickup order (I waited around awkwardly for a bit), so I went to the end of the counter where a bunch of prepared drinks were sitting and asked if mine was there (in every other Starbucks I've ever been in, this is where mobile orders are picked up). Got treated like an idiot for not asking at the vacant "front counter" first. Got sent back to the (now staffed) "front counter" so the employee there could walk back over to the rack of prepared drinks and hand me my drink (which had been sitting there the whole time) because apparently this was less work than the guy already standing there to just check the labels and hand me mine. As I was leaving, I heard the employees loudly complaining about how nobody is able to follow directions. Totally defeated the purpose of mobile ordering which is, in my mind, to minimize my interaction with other human beings as much as possible. Also, it took thirteen minutes from ordering my drink online to pickup time which is ridiculous, the store was not busy at all. I don't understand the negative reviews. This store is part of a LARGE corporation, they obviously have rules to follow. If each store could charge each customer the price they wanted how would that work? I have never had a bad experience at this location, sometimes the service seems slow, but the staff is friendly and they are always working. I refuse to go through the drive-thru, as I am not so lazy that I cannot get out of my car, so I can clearly see that the same people have been working there since the store opened. Yes, the drive-thru does take some attention away from the customers in the cafe, but that happens in all drive-thru stores. My only complaint is that the store is way too cold. Sub-par Starbucks... It seems like every time I come to this particular Starbucks they only have Pike's ready to serve for hot coffee which, unfortunately, is my least favorite roast. I am usually in a rush so I don't really want to wait for the pour over. I usually go to the store in the evening, and I get it, regular coffee isn't in high demand, but the location is in a huge college where I see students from all schools coming here to work on papers and projects at all times of the day. So this is pretty dissapointing and I don't see other Starbucks running low on their light and bold roasts this consistently. The beverage quality is inconsistent and the service is usually slow for anything other than coffee. Speaking of slow, the drive-thru -- kind of defeats the purpose of a drive-thru if it isn't a quick service. Like others have said here, the drive-thru slows down the in-house order service. I will say that most of the staff is really nice, but not worth coming back for. If you are in the area and need your coffee fix then go somewhere else. I love the convenient location, easy in and out, much unlike the Starbucks in Amherst which I would NEVER frequent because of its inaccessibility parking-wise. It's awesome and very exciting that there is a drive-thru window... However, let's take a minute and ponder as to why people would ever pull up to a drive-thru!....... Because they're most likely in a HURRY (or just lazy) but more often than not it's the hurry reason... If you're in a hurry FORGET IT!! I LITERALLY pulled up to the drive-thru one day at 3:30pm figuring I'd have enough time to make it through the line and get to work on time for 4pm... I did not even get up to the window until 3:55!!.... And ended up being late for work and having to use personal time to account for it- all for a coffee that should've been in and out?! Even if you're offering champagne coffee brewed with gold flakes and sprinkled with diamonds- half an hour is an inexcusable amount of time to have to wait in a drive-thru line!! Grrrr.. I also would never plan to take a date there expecting to get a table to sit and have a coffee- there's a very limited amount of seating and they are almost ALWAYS occupied by squatters who bring their laptops and take up a 4 person table for the entire day.. I know that's not really the store's fault- but I'm just a little disappointed they didn't plan to have more seating in the construction of this beautiful new establishment.. There's far more seating in their satellite location within Barnes & Noble than there is in this actual Starbucks store...hmmm?? BUT!! The drinks are delicious, as I would expect from Starbucks- despite all my ranting I am actually the worlds biggest Starbucks fan EVER!! Love, love, love the coffee! Five stars for serving up a decent, strong cup of coffee in a convenient drive-thru location...and then just start deducting. This location epitomizes all of the "corporate coffee" gripes about chain coffee. The other Starbucks locations in the area do a good job and maintaining a local coffeehouse feel...low staff turnover, baristas who take pride in their work and go above and beyond your average counter worker coffee pourer, plenty of regulars and familiar faces, and a sense of character and flavor. The Hadley Starbucks just doesn't have any of that vibe for me, and its cause is not helped by the fact that it's in a strip mall. Extremely slow, frequently mess up orders (I've had about a 50% success rate with them actually putting in the flavor shots I order, the same drinks taste very different day-to-day). Rudest baristas of any Starbucks I've ever been to, and they usually try to blame their errors on customers. I understand COVID has introduced special circumstances and it must be stressful to work during this time, but I've heard them frequently yell at customers for not lining up in the right way or for daring to ask the wrong person about their mobile order. There is an especially weird dynamic of the male baristas being rude to female customers (to be fair, the female baristas seem a lot friendlier). Nothing like a nice dose of misogyny along with my overpriced coffee. Was in the store a couple of days ago when a barista chewed out a college kid for placing a mobile order that was too large in the barista's mind and "messed with their flow". General sense of unfriendliness and disorganization.
