    Slow Slow Baristas
    Justin S.

Incredibly slow, I waited more than 45 minutes for 2 Lattes. They taste ok. These people are slow, they need to drink some of their coffee so they can be faster. Baristas are not supposed to be this slow.

I normally don't care to post reviews on large chains since it is what it is and you get what you get, but woah. This was the most unpleasant experience I've ever had at a Starbucks. Every single available table was dirty and nobody was cleaning them and it wasn't very busy. The bathroom was filthy. Poorly managed.

    Filthy counters, blinking coffee brewers

Partner Number 2213605 Adalina Gorena, I used to be a partner for almost 4 years, and worked at multiple locations to help train baristas and improve stores, so I can understand the frustration and anxiety that comes with being a barista, HOWEVER being THIS BAD HAS NO EXCUSE! I lost count of the number of people waiting in the lobby let alone the number of quaza violations I counted as well. Waited 10 minutes (I counted) before I was greeted by a "new employee" that didn't apologize for the wait, just nervously smiled at me. I had to repeat my order 3 times and she STILL GOT IT WRONG! Some girl with a nose ring and bad acne & a bad attitude was right in front of me working the ovens the whole time I waited and never once spoke to me, later found out her name was Alice. No one besides David was wearing a name tag. The lobby was FILTHY with FLIES FLYING OVER ALL THE CAFE AND MOBILE ORDERS! I could only imagine what the bathroom looked like. I waited 32 minutes for 1 drink.... HORRIBLE!!!!!!!! They should shutdown this store and just extend the plaza parking lot.

Thankfully, Mark was there and initially was told a 35 minute wait but seemed intent by quicker. Ambiance: 4/5 It was breakfast time so of course it was a busy time. For my visit, it was crowded but not to where you couldn't hear your table. Dress is casual, good for friends, solo, or pit stop. Service: 5/5 Our waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. Since it was our first visit there, she gave us some background that it was a Pappa's owned restaurant and food is made from scratch. Food: 3/5 They offer mimosas and I was tempted to order, but was driving and it was 9AM so forewent that option. There are food options for every tastebud. Mark ordered the fried cheese sticks, they were one of the items that I found worthwhile to return for. I opted for the Waffle feast. It included a waffle, that I added pecans on top to, two strips of bacon, eggs your way and hash browns. To say that I needed to add salt and pepper to the eggs and hash browns because they tasted bland and flavorless was unfortunate. It also was served at room temperature, because it was made from scratch, would think it be warmer to hot. The waffle was savory and had good mix and topped with the pecans made it even better. If you're on this side of town and want a change up from the "other breakfast diners" DOT would be where I stop. Fast, friendly service. Depending the food you get, it gets the job done for some sustenance to hold you over when you're not sure when your next meal is because you'll be in Galveston for 7 hours riding a float in the Mardi Gras parade.

This place is an absolute gem and you can feel the history the moment you walk in there's a reason they've been around since 1956. Everything feels classic, warm, and authentic, and the smell alone is enough to pull you straight to the counter. The kolaches are OUTSTANDING. Soft, fresh, perfectly baked dough with generous fillings -- both sweet and savory options are on point. Whether you're grabbing sausage kolaches, fruit-filled pastries, or anything in between, you can tell everything is made with care and consistency. Nothing tastes mass-produced. It tastes homemade in the best way. Their coffee pairs perfectly with the pastries too --smooth, flavorful, and exactly what you want with a warm kolache in the morning. It's the kind of spot where you come in for "just one" and end up leaving with a box because everything looks too good to pass up. What really stands out is how efficient and friendly the staff is, even when it's busy. They keep the line moving, are helpful with recommendations, and genuinely seem proud of what they serve -- which says a lot. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portions, especially compared to trendy bakeries that charge double for half the flavor. This is real Houston comfort food at its finest. Perfect for breakfast, a quick bite on the go, or grabbing treats for coworkers or family. I'll definitely be coming back regularly this is now one of my go-to spots whenever I'm craving something warm, fresh, and satisfying. Highly recommend. Hands down one of the best kolache places in Houston.

There is ample space to sit and relax, whether you want to enjoy food and drinks or need a space to read or work. There are board games on the tables like checkers, chess, and dominoes. We played checkers while we waited on our order. The staff is really nice and attentive, they work hard to make sure you are taken care of. The cafe is in the Gulfgate area so they have plenty of parking, and are pretty conveniently located. Drinks are about the price of other coffee shops($5-$10), but using the capital one card brings them down to a great value once you factor in the 50%. It is not manned all the time because customers may want to order from the menu instead. The prices here are cheap, even less than Frank's or Telwink nearby. My catfish and eggs were $11.99 and it was only $1.50 to add an extra egg. The catfish may have been swai though given how mild it was, but the portions were comparable to the diner competitors. You also have to season the eggs and grits yourself like at other diners. As I was eating, customers started strolling in for lunch. The bad thing about the place is the steep entrance and exit to the parking lot. If you have a low car like mine, you'll definite scrape the bottom no matter what angle you take.
