These are the only kolaches I will eat! No other Kolaches compare. The service is fantastic as well considering every time we go there is a line. This past time I went they were out of the turnovers and a member of the staff came up and told us they will be out of the oven in 10 minutes if we wanted to wait, which of course we did. That was nice of them! The roast beef is the best! I love spicy so I get mine with jalepenos but it's not that spicy just a little kick.

I just want to add that I went back to try the chicken fajita pastry as per a recommendation from a fellow customer in line here in the past and he was so right it is delicious

The Original Kolache Shoppe is a well known breakfast pastry store in Houston. When we arrived around 9am on a Saturday, there was a long line that was practically out the door. It was our first time visiting and generally people in line are helpful and will point you to the end of the line, which can be a bit confusing. We tried a number of items with the sausage, jalapeno, and cheese kolache (technically not a kolache, but that is what most Houstonians will call it) being my favorite. The sausage was juicy and a step or two or three above that from your average chain kolache store. The bread around the sausage was pillowy, soft, moist, and perfect. I would return for this one item alone. We were able to see the high hydration dough being formed around sausages in the open kitchen, so I am sure that they keep a fresh batch at all times. Other items that we tried were the savory croissants and the sweet croissants. Of the ones that we tried, the pastrami, cheese, and jalapeno croissant was my favorite. I have heard a lot about the beef fajita croissant, but during our particular visit we did not see it in the pastry window. I did not care for the sweet offerings as I found them to be too sweet. It is a small shop with a lot of people crammed in, but the service is spot on. One employee will take and pack your order, make you a coffee if requested, and then ring you up. I will 100% be back in hunt of the famed beef fajita croissant and to endulge in more sausage, cheese, and jalapeno kolaches (klobasnik).

The original kolache shoppe is often coined "the best kolache in houston" and has been a fan favorite since 1956. It's pretty far from me, so I never had time to make it out until recently. We came on a Saturday morning and the tiny shop had a long line flowing out of it. The line does move pretty fast though. When you get up to the glass counter, it's pretty much just letting your eyes do the eating. My husband and I decided on the CZECH KLOBÁSNÍKY (sausage kolache with jalapeños), the roast beef and pastrami croissant, the lemon cream cheese twist, and a chocolate croissant. My list of favorites of what we ordered is in that order too. To highlight, the Czech Klobasniky might have been the best kolache I've ever had. The sausage was so juicy and flavorful and the kolache dough was perfectly soft and sweet. This is definitely a must get when coming here and I regret not ordering more. I also loved both the roast beef and pastrami croissants. They each have bacon, cheese, and jalapeños which made for a very indulgent breakfast pastry. I would honestly stay away from both of the sweet treats we ordered (lemon twist and chocolate croissant). Both the lemon and the chocolate icings tasted extremely artificial and were way too sweet. I was honestly about to throw both pastries away after 1 bite. I am so excited to come back for their savory kolaches, and perhaps I may try the czech kolache next time I'm around (light, puffy pastry filled with different options of sweet fillings)!

I got the beef fajita kolache and it was great. The beer was soft, flavorful and hot and the overall kolache was great. I can't say the same of the pastrami and cheese unfortunately. The pastrami just felt and tasted like a rolled up warm roast beef that didn't have much flavor from the brine/cure. The coffee was decent and the staff was very nice. There is seating outside but it can get loud and it's next to a major road.

Holy crap! My friend took me here as I am visiting Texas for the weekend. Got picked up from the airport at 5AM and she took me straight here. Again HOLY CRAP! I got the cheese beef kolache. 10/10. The beef was SEASONED, the jalapeño was jalapeñing! Service took a little longer than expected despite calling in and they gave us 1 short but they quickly rectified their mistake which is a huge plus! Get there early because it was 6am (opening hour) and it was already pretty busy. Parking is VERY limited so beware. I gave it a 4/5 due to business hours. Closes too early!

Our friends from out of town learned what kolaches were from their visit to this spot, and they loved every fluffy, pillowy bite! The kolaches are big and the bread is sweet and soft (similar to the Asian sweet bread or the baked version of char siu bbq pork buns), and the sausages they use are huge! They also offer cookies, which are probably baked in a ring mold for their crispy, buttery edges. The inside is a bit softer and chewier, but the oatmeal raisin version was definitely a bit dry versus the chocolate chip version (which had the bits of soft chocolate). Fun to try and tasty but not my favorite type of cookie~ There were people constantly walking in and lining up, so come early or they'll be sold out of items (cinnamon rolls were sold out by 10:45 am that day)! There are picnics tables outside and a window ledge inside to enjoy your bites if you're okay with standing right next to people in line. Parking consists of 4 spots in front + street parking. Bring your friends or yourself for a tasty bite! Prices are surprisingly comparable to the mainstream Kolache Factory, even though the kolaches here are bigger and (in my opinion) better quality! :)

Coffee was amazing!! Parking is limited and there is only outdoor seating but the kolaches make up for it!

Great spot! Unassuming on the outside but so yummy. The bread on the kolaches is amazing, and the sweet ones are really good! We also got coffee which we enjoyed. My husband is a kolache lover and he said their sausage kolache was his favorite he has had!

Never had a Kolache before but I knew it was a must while visiting Houston. The Original Kolache Shoppe is a place to visit for a reason because the items we ordered were indeed freshly baked. It was busy when we got there but the line moves along. The parking lot is small but there is street parking available. There are tables outside if you wanted to grab a seat and enjoy right away. My partner and I ordered their Czech Klobásníky Sausage and Cheese, Czech Kolache Strawberry and Crème and the Beef Fajita Pepper Jack Cheese Jalapeño Croissant. All winners in my opinion. Biting into the Czech Kolache Strawberry and Crème was like biting into a warm pillow, when we ordered it, it came straight out of the oven - this was probably my favorite item because I love sweets. Highly recommend checking out if you are in the area!

I honestly didn't really know what to think of Kolaches at first. They honestly didn't look good to me at all. Still decided to stop in at this place and give a couple of them a try. We ordered one with sausage and cheese, and another one with cream cheese. Not exactly sure what I was thinking because both of these tasted amazing. Especially the sausage one. The sausage was perfectly cooked and it had just the right amount of cheese. Not too much where it gets too messy, but just the perfect amount. The bread was so soft and tasted freshly baked. The cream cheese one was good, but it kind of reminded me of a danish so nothing too specially here, although I would still definitely order it again. This place is a must try. I'm not exactly sure when I'd ever make it down here again, but I will definitely be trying more Kolaches in the future.

We went during lunch so it was quiet, but I hear they do get busier at night for happy hour and dinner. I was able to pre-order the pork shank prior to arrival so I wouldn't wait the full hour to cook. We also ordered a sausage appetizer and pretzel. All were great! I was very impressed. Now I can't compare it exactly to Germany itself, but it was good for German food in Houston. Top notch service, clean restaurant. If you want to give German food a try in Houston , this is the place to go.

But I had a plan. I went on Yelp and searched for German food trucks in all of Houston. The Sauer Kraut Food Truck popped up as, by far, having the best ratings/reviews. I then went to their Facebook page, and as I expected, their most recent post was that they were at the Tomball German Heritage Festival. I assumed that any German food trucks in Houston would be and was glad I turned out to be right. Earlier in the day, I walked past the truck and was definitely intrigued when I saw it say something on the side like, "German food with a Texas twist". But I had no idea that they had such good reviews when I initially saw that. We ended up ordering a jager schnitzel sandwich and a currywurst. Both were about as great as one could have hoped for. And while we did not love our overall experience at this festival, The Sauer Kraut Food Truck was the highlight for us. We will definitely stop here again if we see them out and about in the future.
