I hate giving out one star reviews but this Starbucks absolutely deserves it. I stopped by here en route from Bloomington to Indianapolis with my parents and we thought this would be a quick pit stop. Turned out we had to wait nearly 20 minutes just to order at the drive-thru. I am not joking. While the service was friendly, it was some of the slowest service I have ever experienced. There was only one car ahead of me, and the person was taking forever with them. It only got worse when we got to the ordering station as there was silence for 5-10 minutes. That is NOT acceptable by any means, and we didn't even receive any word of warning that there would be a delay. I understand that there are staffing issues, but stuff like this still should not happen as not everyone has the time and patience to be understanding of issues like that. They always make my drinks just as I ask them, but someone stood out to me, especially on this week's Starbucks trip. A wonderful person named Susie with a charismatic, generous, and high-spirited attitude and personality brightened my day. She not only greeted me as I got my drink but made me feel welcome, and even after sitting came to me and made sure my drink came out to give me an extra breakfast sandwich that they accidentally made. The young lady that came over the intercom in the drive thru-drive was as pleasant as could be! She took my order and repeated everything back to me to confirm she got it right. This used to be a pretty good Starbucks but it has really changed. Service is extremely slow - expect at least a 15 minute wait for your order inside and even more if you are going through the drive-thru. I travel back and forth between Bloomington and Indianapolis often and every time I drove by the drive-thru is slammed. I attempted to go through a few times but when the line didn't move for more than 5 minutes I just left. Drinks out of the drive thru have definitely been sitting and melting. Their staff is a little bit kinder than they used to be but, their service lacks the professionalism and the speed required they handle the level of customers they get. The Baristas all appear to get along with one another but, instead of focusing on the customer they focus on each other. This makes for an awesome work environment however, the customer starts to feel ignored. The drive thru is a hit-or-miss. There are times when it is quick and you can expect to get out of there within 10 to 15 minutes and there are other times when it could take up to half an hour. Extremely slow and incompetent. There is an obvious management issue here at the store level and I've never seen anything like this throughout the country! The geographic location has got to be the only thing keeping this place going as most people traveling up and down the highway don't realize how screwed up it is. Where to start?? Drive thru is a mess... first they don't speak loud enough nor listen! Plan a good 15-20 minutes before you get to the window and that's if you're only ordering coffee. When you get to the window you're summoned for your money while they let a $2.50 cup of coffee sitting hostage behind them. I feel insulted...like they think you're going to drive off. Then plan to have 4 hands as they give you your change and drink at the same time and rush you along. So you think you may beat the drive thru line by going inside... think again! Most of the staff is very incompetent and untrainable! The wait inside can be even longer. You will however have the opportunity to speak with other unhappy customers while the manager sits at a table talking with her employees. And when it's time for an employee to take a break or they're tired you may have a chance to chat with them at a table while they enjoy their drink and danish. I've never seen anything like this in the industry. Typically when things get busy; a good manager will jump in and clear the line. Not here! My recommendation... with the exception of a few seasoned employees, clean house! Start with the manager that's created this mess. Put someone in that position that is capable of the job. Rehire and train good, clean, and trainable people.... The sales have to be a reflection of the management change and they should consider the influx of traffic from IU and the dumping of I69 traffic. If they're not considering this then perhaps there's a management problem even higher up! Good luck! So the regional manager has ZERO Starbucks experience... just found this out. Perhaps the problems here are much deeper. More seasoned employees leaving so only expect much less. Be easy on the employees that don't know what they're doing. Sooo.... today was the second time I attended this Starbucks. The first time was mediocre- I ordered a vanilla cold brew coffee with coconut milk vs. cream. I got my drink and there was about a quarter Dallop of coconut milk and no vanilla.... so as a good yelper does - I gave them a second chance.... maybe that was a bad day which is not the norm for Starbucks. Day two, I came to this Starbucks on my way to Bloomington and when I pulled in the GPS said I would arrive at 12:08pm, when I left the window at this Starbucks my clock said 12:19pm.... never have I ever!!! After I ordered, there were 2 cars in front of me and I thought WOAH they must have ordered 19 drinks because this is taking so long... but no... one drink for car #1 and 1 drink for car #2. When I FINALLY pulled up the barista was taking her time... talking and giggling to her co-workers... I'm all for a fun working environment but she was moving like a sloth and at an oh so glacial pace. I got my drink, she forgot I got a water - that took another 2.5 minutes.... and my Carmel coconut milk macchiato had more Carmel in it than the law would allow. This is probably the worst customer service I've had in awhile. About 3 employees walked by the counter as I'm waiting to order and said nothing to me. Didn't acknowledge me. After a couple minutes of waiting someone finally came over and took my order. The lady that took my order looked like she did not want to be there whatsoever. I got a breakfast sandwich and a water. It took 10 minutes to receive my sandwich and I had to ask again for my water. Mind you there are 5 employees working, 1 making drip (which could wait) 1 in the drive through, 2 older ladies gossiping in the corner. Another girl walking around aimlessly with nothing to do. Oh, man. If this wasn't the Starbucks on the way back home from Bloomington, I would not go back. Despite the five-person team working there on Saturday morning, I easily waited 15 minutes to order and finally receive my drink. The drive-thru line was wrapped around the building and there was a gaggle of people gathered waiting for their drinks inside in addition to the cash register line that was several customers deep. I don't know if this was just a bad day or what, but with five people hustling around (and they really looked like they were), I just don't know what the problem was. Maybe management needs to consider even more help for busy holiday weekends. As for the silver lining, it's Starbucks -- my drink and my husband's drink were both perfect. We'll probably be back. I had a bad experience here. The cashier never gave back my credit card and I never realized it at first. Luckily, I did discover it, but I was by then 50 miles up the road. I had to call my credit card company and was able to report and then cancel out the account and set up a new one. It will take a couple of business days to get the new card. I then called the Starbucks store there and they did have it but, by that time I had already closed the account. I know that people can make mistakes, but a cashier needs to be more on the ball. read more

Stopped here before heading out to check out some flea markets for goodies with a friend. They were nice and helpful to me, my friend and her daughter... so I have no complaints. Got my drink reasonably quick considering there were cars in the drive-thru and about 3 people ahead of me in line. It was really large inside and had copious amounts of places to sit inside and linger, if you lived in the area. That part felt like Starbucks' in Washington. I wouldn't go so far as to say that the service is the best, but every time I've been here everybody has been friendly, and I have been waited on in a reasonable amount of time. Everything I've gotten there has been good to excellent, and they have been attentive and concerned when something wasn't right, which was rare. Roll up to the drive thru and place our order (dark roast with one Splenda and cream and an iced coconut mocha concoction). The line never seemed to move. It seems that the more popular a business becomes in Martinsville, the service level seems to go downhill. I wish this wasn't the case for Starbucks, but unfortunately, it is. They used to be quick and efficient, but it just seems to be the opposite. It also seems that business owners/operators of popular establishments don't like to spend money on labor costs (who really does?), however, in a place as busy as this, you might need to take a small bite out of that cookie, because customers of Starbucks don't always like to wait for long. I mean, this is a pretty large location and it drives a lot of traffic from Bloomington and Indianapolis, so they need to be on their A-game. Now, that being said, I have always had a positive experience with their drinks being made. They always have made mine correctly and consistently. I love the tiramisu frappucino and their teas. So I live in Martinsville, and I commute to Bloomington and Indianapolis (alternating weeks) - so I'm in and out of a fair number of Starbucks. Lucky me, this is the worst one that I visit - and it's in my home base. I know wait times at Starbucks are usually long, but really, I could brew a full industrial pot and mail it to my house in the time it takes to get a black pike roast some days.
