Like Val S. has said elsewhere here, we pulled off 94 when tornado sirens were rampant (we did not meet her during this stop as far as I can tell, but we were all in the building together). We got in the door in a rainstorm and right after us they locked up the store (but continued to let in others who arrived in peril). The power had not yet gone out but would shortly. Staff could not use the register or serve Starbucks products, but they made sure everyone who wanted it had ice water. The power went out and a tornado definitely ran right by us when we were all huddled inside, many in the bathrooms but most clustered in the back to avoid windows. Some people were ducking out to take videos and brought them back to us in the bathrooms - yikes. Definitely a tornado, and thankfully no one was hurt. I have to say I can't think of a better group of people to go through that with - both fellow customers and staff. The manager was at the top of her game, very efficient and kind. All employees were checking on everyone and had to quiet a few panic attacks which they did quite well. We actually stayed longer than we needed to because talking to the staff was so much fun. The area was completely devastated by the storm, we discovered. This was on August 11, 2026, and we made sure to stop by and check on everyone when we came back the other way on August 15. Unfortunately the entire area was still without power and there was a lot of brush and debris still. Will definitely make this a regular stop whenever we're on 94! read more

Got off the interstate at the beginning of a tornado and they had to let us in pushed open the doors against the wind and rain There were about 30 people huddled in the back. Starbucks had a lantern. Little kids and older people all together until the storm stopped. Trees down and lots of water in the parking lot. Very grateful for this Starbucks! They all deserve a paid day off!! read more

Stopped here due to the convenience of the location, (rather than reading the reviews), and we were pleased with our decision. The restrooms were clean and a convenient spot in our trip. Hubby is diabetic and since Starbucks no longer has sugar free Cinnamon Dolce, he likes a vanilla Frappuccino with only one scoop of powder and one pump of sugar free vanilla syrup. Today he added a shot of espresso and said it was one of the best he's had! I wanted a hot drink and ordered the Caramel Brûlée Latte which was delicious. We had to wait for the drinks to be made, but it felt like it took less time than going through the drive thru at the local Starbucks location. We were back on the road heading home and quite satisfied with our stop. read more

Located just 5 minutes from the Interstate, i must say THIS Starbucks was a happy find. As others have already said, it is all about the quality of the associates when visiting a Starbucks. Each one (I think i counted 6 on this particular day) was as kind, skilled and friendly as could be. The space itself was immaculate and well stocked. Our beverages were excellent and the food tasted great. This is a stand-alone Starbucks so there was plenty of parking, as well as a drive-thru. All in all, i can assure you Portage's Starbucks just off I-94 will be in our coffee stop data base during travel. read more

It's about halfway for us on a 4 hour trip, so it makes sense, but we choose here and not somewhere like Michigan City or Chesterton, where there are more options, because of the friendly service. I stopped at this store on June 14th to order my typical drink, Venti mocha with 1 shot of espresso, mocha on the side. They refused to make my order claiming their manager would not let them put the mocha on a side cup. So i contacted corporate and the DM of that store contacted me on June 28th. Not to apologize but to tell me that is Starbucks policy. I have only been here a few times as i travel between Michigan and Chicago. Reading the reviews have me puzzled. When I arrived this last time they did not have what I ordered in my mobile order and they were attentively waiting for me to let me know and offer an alternative. The staff were very friendly and the service was great. The store was clean and I actually like the layout. Being someone who has been to MANY Starbucks, it comes down to the people on staff. Whenever i go here it takes 10-15 minutes on the drove through from start to finish. And every time my drink tastes very bitter. This Starbucks is right off the highway and across from a gas station, making it the perfect place to stop and fill up yourself and your vehicle. I did this every time I drove through. It didn't hurt that there was a Star Dash going on one weekend (bonus stars for 'bux cardholders), which served as extra incentive to pull over at this exit for gas. There is ample outdoor seating, which I unfortunately didn't get to enjoy but that, plus my drinks not being screwed up, earn it four stars. Service was meh. The baristas didn't seem thrilled, but they delivered what I ordered, and there is a clean bathroom. The first time I stopped here was pretty hilarious, though -- Every person in line ahead of me would have easily topped the list of "Most Annoying Starbucks Customers." Super-specific orders, last minute changes while and then after paying, buying a mug - just a mug, no coffee (who does that?!) and then having it gift-wrapped, little kids running with chocolate milk from the cooler... I had a great day at work and on a way home decided to reward my self with my favorite drink; venti flat white with two extra shots and extra foam. I came in, place my order and noticed I had enough of those super shiny gold stars to pay for it ( right there the day went from awesome to super awesome) and as soon as I mentioned that I am using my stars the barista behind counter said "you added two shots I knew it was going to be a free drink" ( my day went from super awesome to phhhhhhrt, that's right whoopy cushion sound). I informed the barista that this is how I normally order my drink and walked away thinking - what's your problem bro! Last time I checked the reason we all buy Starbucks ridiculously expensive coffee is because we can get it any way we want to and when we collect enough of those super shiny stars to get a reward drink we should be appreciated by all the baristas since those 125 shiny stars in reality cost $62.50 in previous purchases which drives the Starbucks enterprise. So since you turned my :) face to :( face I have decided to take a little break from Starbucks and give other coffee houses in the area a try. Horrible service. The barista whose name tag read ELL was more interested in gossiping with her fellow coworkers then making the drinks properly. 2 out of our 4 drinks were wrong. We received too many pastries. When I told the cashier the restrooms were out of toilet paper and soap, she said "so?" Since ELL was busy socializing and we had already waited 20 minutes at this point, I reached over to read the name on the cup that had been sitting on the counter; that got ELL's attention and she snapped at me that the drink was for Elizabeth. I went to this Starbucks passing through from Illinois to Michigan. The line was so long I decided to go to McDonald's instead, as I left the parking lot and abruptly hit the deepest pothole. And I am from Chicago, lol. I now have a flat tire and not going to make it to my destination on time. Worst possible service! They tarnish the name Starbucks! They forgot our order, kept us waiting while clients came and went. I asked about the order, had to repeat it twice and when finally trying to cancel, I got shortchanged! They gave me some "recovery cards" that were less than the value of the bill. Only when I came back, angrily asking about this did they give me another such card! The cards have "your next one's on us" printed on them but I HAD TO PAY FOR THEM! They never cancelled the order and we never got the drinks. This store is a ripoff, be careful! I tried calling corporate and they called back two days later, leaving an unclear message with what sounded like an apology. No callback number or way to follow up. Disappointing. read more

This Starbucks is just off the expressway, therefore it is treated like a rest stop. I sat in here for about an hour and watched several people enter the store, walk straight to the bathroom and leave without purchasing anything. The women's bathroom was filthy. The garbage was overflowing and full of visibly used feminine products. This Starbucks seriously needs to have a lock on the bathroom door to which only paying customers can access the key. The store was not very busy while I was in there. As I stated, the majority of traffic was people coming in to use the bathroom, so I was kind of surprised by the state of the place. Every table and chair was covered in crumbs and the whole place was a mess. The only reason why I am giving this Starbucks two stars is because the cashier was very friendly. This is the slowest Starbuck's I think I have ever been in. There was nobody in line when I walked up to the counter. A young lady came in after me by about 3 minutes. They seemed to be filling all the drive up orders first. There was an order they filled and set on the counter - app order. It took over 10 minutes to get a Venti American Black!!!
