Step aside Starbucks, Philz, Peet's, etc. They all have nothing over Maple City. If you're in town grab a cup and buy a pound. Grind it yourself or have Maple grind it as you like it. The coffee is excellent. The customer service is not. My friend's daughter, who lives in the area, always sends it to her mother in Pittsburgh who shares it with me and gifts it for my birthday, etc. In November, she gave me two bags of the same flavor... one decaf and one regular. (I mix them.) Something was wrong with them both. The coffee beans are usually a little oily from the flavoring process. This time, they were dry and the coffee was so weak you could see through it. It was like the last bag made at the end of the day. I emailed about it and was told I'd receive replacements but never did. So basically $40 for tea-looking coffee with no taste. read more

We stopped in here for coffee on a trip we took to Warren Dunes. This coffee was so good that I find myself sitting here back in Illinois still thinking about how I can get more. Just ordered some off their website! No frilly drinks, which is not a problem when you just want a great cup of coffee. I think we had the Bonzo blend, but can't honestly remember. 5 stars because they don't allow me to give them 10. I love this place. It is a hidden gem in michigan city. They roast small batch coffee rigth in the shop. The prices are great for what they are doing. Getting the best beans they can find all over the world (costa rico, brazil, colombia, etc) and roasting them in house. The place smells great when you walk in. The owner was very knowledgable and enjoyed talking about his craft. My wife and I had a hour conversation with him about all this stuff. The assortment of coffee that he sells in the shop is wide but not overwhelming. Try the bonzo blend or jazzy blend (if your into flavored coffee). I am typically not a fan of flavored coffee becuase it is made with lesser quality beans and if you love your coffee, you know what I am talking about. Not this place they use the same quality beans in all their coffee. This place an 1 1/2 from my house and we pass it when we go to our families cotttage but you can order their coffee' through the web but it is worth the drive if you have the time. read more

Great variety of unadulterated as well as flavored coffees, roasted on site, with roast dates marked on bottoms of bags. The Karwick Road storefront is smallish, but adequate for the area, housing a small section of bar seating and several tables. Decor is contemporary/casual, no hipster furniture or art on the wall. I know there is another site out near the Garwood Apple orchard but have not visited that one as of this writing. The owner usually has three of his blends brewed and available for purchase at $2/cup, which is a bottomless cup (free refills), meaning you should fill up before you leave! He also has various Russia teas. No lattes or fancy coffee drinks at this time, but I have heard he may be doing this soon. The owner is very personable to talk to and generally open to requests for doing custom roasts and blends, depending on costs involved and his work load. His prices are on point for the types and sizes he sells, most also available through the local ALS grocery stores and also via local fundraisers. If you're into good coffee you need to give Maple City a try! read more

This roaster does big things with coffee beans. Walk in the cafe and the wonderful aroma makes you wish you could wake up to this everyday. Good thing is that you can. The Jazza Java is worth the trip out to the cafe where the owner may even greet you and let you know about the expanded variety of roasted organic Fair Trade organic beans. Pick up a bag of freshly roasted beans to take home. This is a local gem- but Al's Supermarket keeps plenty in stock if you are not able to get to the cafe before noon. Big thumbs up for a small business that also helps others in the community with fund raising activities. We love all that you do! read more

Haven't made it into the actual store yet, but we have been buying their coffee at the grocery store and farmers market in New Buffalo for about 6 months now. It is THE BEST COFFEE we have ever had! We buy whole beans and grind at home. Our favorite flavors are Jazzy Java and Jamaican Me Crazy. Sooo good! read more

Cute and simple shop. $2/cup. $3 for pour-over. No decaf, no espresso drinks, just coffee. That's fine, but the young woman working there wasn't too friendly so I wish we hadn't bothered at all. We first sampled their wonderful coffee at a Sip and Stroll event and fell in love! We have bought bag after bag after bag of their delicious coffee over the last few years and have never been disappointed! Our favorite is the Traverse City Cherry and the Morning After Blend. The shop is always nicely decorated inside and out and smells heavenly! (with coffee I'd be a little concerned if it didn't) The owner is always very personable when we stop in. If you can't make it into the shop you can order online and have everything shipped. They have branched out into local fundraising events for sports teams, etc. as well. Great coffee cafe and roaster. Just off route 12 at Karwick/Als Grocery and next to Scartozzis. They roast in small batches so beans are very fresh. Grab a cup or a bag of beans on your way in/out of Harbor Country, thats what we do. read more
