Although I am not a fan of actual pumpkin, or pumpkin pie, I do look forward to pumpkin spice flavored drinks from Starbucks. When I walked in, the board had a big picture of their pumpkin cream cold brew and pumpkin cream chai. To be able to try them both, I got one and my friend got the other both in a grande size and iced. The cream foam on top of the cold brew was amazing, and paired really well when mixed in with the cold brew. The pumpkin is very subtle. The chai had slightly more spices with I personally liked, with less of a coffee flavor. Both of them were really delicious. We were able to get a table outside under the shade which made for a very relaxing experience. read more

The store is roomy, nicely set up and feels comfortable, during the warmer months tables with umbrellas and patio furniture gives you some sun time. It's great that for the low price of a small hot coffee you can get an entire working office for the day. Is that not how this place works? Maybe tell that to the boards of people who camp out with their laptop the entire day and look angry that us strangers dare speak and converse in their secluded office space. Parking stinks because one again, people camp their cars out all day. And today there was only one barista working the line, but 3 people cleaning? Customers should take priority. They are decently quick and they always have a good selection of pastries so they get 2 stars. But man the parking and lack of sitting area really turn me off from this location. read more

This is the second Starbucks that I've been to this week; reading period is whack! This location is very spacious, however, it was crowded for most of the time we were there (11:30 am - 5:15 pm) since it seems like a lot of people enjoy doing work there. The service was quick, bathrooms were clean (that's right, I said bathroomS plural!), and the ambiance was nice; I got a lot of work done there. The bathrooms were also very large and clean. Always a nice thing to have (especially when you're drinking a venti iced coffee studying for hours on end with a relatively small bladder). The only thing I didn't like was the fact that there were a lot of seats where you would not be able to charge your devices. The only outlets were on one side of the seating area or along one of the walls by the large table and even then, there were only 2 outlets there. If you don't have one of those extension cables for charging, you're pretty much screwed. Other than that small hiccup, this Starbucks has a lot going for them. It is in a super cute area and right next to a great restaurant, Red Stripe. My friend and I will probably visit again tomorrow to do even more work! read more

My favorite feature about this Starbucks is that it's a bit of a walk from Brown's campus, so it's less likely that you'll be surrounded by stressed students trying to complete their assignments. Wayland Square is a cute spot to feel extra productive if you make the trek to go to work there. Baristas are friendly :) Grab your backpack, take a walk, then get work done while sipping on your yummy drink! This was a regular spot for me when we were located nearby during a 4 month stay nearly 17 years ago. It was great to revisit today when we were in the area. They did a great job on my custom drink and the baristas were very friendly and efficient. They have a small parking lot and some street parking quite near that made it easier to access in bad weather than walking to the Thayer location when we were last in town. And though crowded, not nearly so, more predictable in timing, and more likely to be stroller moms not in such a hurry. The store continues to be spotless and has been nicely updated in the interim. If we were here again, I would absolutely continue to be a regular. read more

How do I love this Starbucks? Let me count the ways (I know, it's cliché). First off, as a former barista, I feel like I've got some pretty high standards for coffee knowledge, and these guys pass the bar every time. I typically come in to try the coffees off of the Reserve board- single-origin, smaller batches that only get delivered to certain stores and that have amazing flavour profiles. The baristas are always reading my mind as to what I want to drink (aged Sumatra, maybe?) and what I want to eat with it (gingerbread loaf, no doubt). The store is laid out in such a way that it's spacious, but still feels cozy. There's a huge community table, comfy chairs, a fireplace, and an expansive outdoor patio that Rhode Islanders will use into the winter months. Beware the parking lot- it's tiny and a little hard to get out of once you're in, so check for spots before you get yourself into a sticky situation. Side streets are the best bet for parking when the lot is full. Way to go, Wayland Square Starbucks! Keep up the good work! read more

I know, I know, I know... It's a CHAIN. And it's a coffee chain, at that. But when my beloved Edge cafe closed down last fall, I was forced to find another location in Wayland Square with ample seating, delicious hot beverages and free wifi. This Starbucks fit the bill. One of the advantages of frequenting this Starbucks is the fact that they have their own parking lot. Now, this may not seem a huge deal, but in Wayland Square, it absolutely is. Free, non-street parking? It's a MAJOR plus. The cafe itself is relatively large, with a nice lounge area with plenty of sofas, chairs, tables and windows. You can sit out doors when it's warmer out, which is really nice, and it's just a few steps from a RIPTA bus stop.The baristas know what they're doing, and the retail section is decent. My complaint? These guys likely put my Edge out of business... Sad. read more

One of my favorite Starbucks. + Service- they're always so nice here. Whether in the early morning or late evening, I've always been treated well and greeted with enthusiasm. Open early and close at 10pm (wish it were a bit later). Very accommodating- they took longer than usual with my drink yesterday and offered me a free drink for my wait. + Atmosphere/Seating- ample outdoor seating for the summer. Inside, there are several tables one or two people, a seating area around the fireplace with comfortable couches, and a long communal table near the center of the store. Also seating at the bar facing the baristas as well as facing outside. Even when it gets crowded, I can usually find some place to sit. Outlets are abundant. High ceilings and a lot of natural light. It's also usually very clean here. + Menu/misc- wide selection of baked goods/food/juices in addition to the typical Starbucks drink menu. They also carry beans, mugs, tea, etc etc -- all of the potential Starbucks related gift items in case you need something last minute. That said, it's still starbucks and the drinks are what you'd expect. + Free parking. + Wifi's strong. read more

Hit or miss with this location. While they do have a free, private, dedicated parking lot you can almost never find a spot. Parking in this section of town is extremely difficult. Sometimes when I come here the baristas are friendly, the line moves quickly, and your drink taste like pure heaven. Other times (like today), the baristas seem to need an extra shot of espresso and a double shot of customer service. They definitely play favorites with their customers, I ordered an iced coffee, black. Two people behind me in line that ordered lattes got their beverages before I got mine. The latte people also seemed to know the baristas personally, one barista kissing a customer. Ew, gross, inappropriate and unprofessional. That really irritated me, seeing as I waited 10 minutes for a $3, 16oz, no effort black coffee. I did not leave a tip. They have all sorts of overpriced pastry and bakery items, as well as organic milk, and various juices. You can purchase coffee by the pound here, but it's $1 cheaper at Stop'n'Shop. Free wifi, but like the parking lot, the sitting area is almost always full. There's a fireplace and comfy looking seats (never actually gotten to sit down in here). There is a nice little patio seating area outside, dogs seem welcome. Smokers, this area is not your ashtray. The crowd here can be a little pretentious and sometimes downright annoying. Overall, 3 stars for this Sbux chain. Definitely room for improvement, but not totally awful. read more

This Starbucks is famous for its peaceful location in Wayland Square and their nice outdoor seating that isn't really too common in neighboring towns. Plenty of tables to sit outside and do some work and enjoy the free wifi. If you prefer a seat inside good luck, because it is always busy! Consistency though, ugh. Gone are the happy Starbucks baristas I used to find, in their place are always rushed workers looking miserable serving me $5 lattes. Its close to my work and I love the location. Friendly staff, consistently- and properly-prepared drinks, and ample seating both inside and out make this one of the nicest Starbucks locations I frequent. My only complaint about this location is its insufficient supply of parking. Particularly during the morning rush, it can be difficult both to find an open space in their 20-car lot and to exit the lot if no spaces are available. My recommendation: unless you see a free space when approaching this location, make a right onto Elmgrove Avenue (immediately after the Starbucks) and park on the street. read more

I was very disappointed with the service here today. I had just finished a long day of college work, and I decided to go to the local Starbucks I go to all the time, where the staff is usually very friendly and accommodating. Not today. I ordered the Pumpkin Spice Créme that I have ordered multiple times on the app and in that particular store, but the employee who took my order rudely told me that the drink did not exist and acted very annoyed with me as if I was wasting his time, even thought there was nobody else in the store. I was very confused, so I left the store and checked my app to see if they had changed the menu, but the drink was still on the menu. I thought that maybe he was new and didn't know the menu very well, so I tried to describe it to him in case I said the wrong name but he was still being very rude and did not listen. As a grad student, I'm always on the lookout for coffee shops with the best combination of quality coffee, good music, wifi, and accessibility, and this Starbucks has it all. Yes, it's a chain, but how many Starbucks have such lovely outdoor seating? It's finals time right now, and without the patio here I wouldn't be nearly as far along on all my papers. I've spent so many afternoons working here lately- something about getting to sit outside in the sun makes nonstop reading and writing a lot more tolerable. There are tables in the full sun if you want them; there are tables under nice big umbrellas if you're more of a shade person. I personally like the big communal table in the back of the patio, which has just the right amount of shade for glossy laptop screen visiblity! Of course, for the winter months, the interior is nice as well. Plus, if you want to take a break from working, the location of this place is on a really pleasant little corner and it makes for good people watching. People in Providence drive like maniacs and Angell Street is no exception, so be careful crossing the street if you're walking. But other than the occasional traffic, there are usually families strolling around, a ridiculous/disproportionate abundance of adorable dogs, and delicious smells wafting across the street from Red Stripe. The staff is also really pleasant. I've never encountered anything but friendly attitudes and good customer service at this location. read more

I frequent this location regularly in no small part to the excellent tone and environment cultivated by manager Lauren and her staff. It's always a nice feeling to walk in and have your drink started as soon as you make eye contact with one of the baristas. I've come here for the last few years have only seen improvements over time. My only complaint is the lack of plugs in the building as a number of people who frequent this location use laptops. read more

I like the building, the patio, and all that... I also like that they have a Clover (a $12,000 machine that makes one cup at a time)... I love the crazy-eyed manager who is passionate about his product. He's like the Christopher Lloyd of coffee... But guess what it's friggin Starbucks. Would you like burnt stale coffee, or another kind of coffee we burnt and let sit around? Then the idea of the Clover becomes absurd. It's like selling top-shelf gourmet pastries imported from France that have been sitting under the seat of your friend's minivan for 5 weeks. Yes, they had potential when they were fresh, but no longer. As is with Starbucks, who knows how old the coffee is and they can't roast anything light, even coffees that shine when given that treatment (like the Kenya). So I bought a great ingredient that was burnt and allowed to go stale...then made on a $12k machine that makes one cup at a time. Slightly absurd, eh? (I thought I'd add that they are now selling Kona coffee for $45/lb. You can buy direct from Hawaii fresh roasted for half that+ shipping.) read more

I really hope to educate local coffee enthusiasts with this review: If you have a decent palette: don't buy coffee here! (duh) If, alternately, you care about buying a hip "image" that is carrying a green straw, DON'T COME HERE. Providence is a such an eclectic, booming, artful city; there are so many locally born coffee shops that offer delicious variety. I've known (and been related to!) very hardworking young folks who've work for starbucks. This makes it even more easy for me to say that this company is pragmatic and manipulative in it's recipes and image for serving "good" coffee, and abusing it's workers. 1. Starbucks can't even guarantee it's products are from certified fair trade coffee growers. 2. The origins of their coffee are.. questionable? I know for a fact they have their beans sitting on shelves for MONTHS. The local independent cafe in Providence? From working for/patronizing many of them, I know their beans have been roasted within the month (or less). 3. I've heard first-hand horror stories of the company's "corporate" terminating and penalizing workers unfairly. 4. Their espresso machines are super-automatic, meaning they press a button and nasty diarrhea espresso comes out. Espresso should be very manual. The beans should be ground, tamped, extracted and added to milk as you order your latte! If you've tasted a truly artisanal latte you will never go back. 5. Starbucks is full of crowded tables, slow internet, and impersonal/ miserable employees. If you want an environment to study/do work/ surf the internet; there are locally sustainable cafes all around you! read more

I know this is Yelp and we're supposed to be anti-establishment types to some extent. But seriously, guys. As far as Starbucks go, this is like the Taj Mahal of Starbucks. Sure I'd rather spend my time at Coffee Exchange or Wildflower. They're "hipper" and better reflect the deep philosophical underpinnings of what coffeeshops should be. But Starbucks is Starbucks. And I think this is a really great one. The indoor space is large with lots of tables. The outdoor patio is sunny and promises a relaxed atmosphere to catch up with old (or new) friends. The coffeebar actually serves coffee from a Clover--you just can't go wrong with a Clover. Moreover, the baristas are always friendly... some may say... oddly chipper. But most of all, I appreciate the early and reliable business hours at Starbucks. Sure, this is why "the man" manages to get a head up. But there are days when I have to get to work by 5:30am on a Sunday morning, and I literally can't get coffee anywhere else. It's always nice to know that Starbucks, and specifically this Starbucks, will greet me with a warm smile, pump some caffeine into my bloodstream, and send me on my merry sleep-deprived way. The jist: Best Starbucks in a 1-mile radius! The detail: This Starbuck's redeeming quality is its location. The outdoor seating option is great during the spring and the summer. I've even heard tale of Pumpkin-Spiced lattes being sipped pretentiously by the fireplace that punctuates the large indoor sitting area. The parking lot is a nice touch for the location but it's often full. It's also oddly placed, taking up the bare minimal space required to be called a parking lot. Parking at the Starbucks is like playing Tetris with moving vehicles. But forget all that! Free parking in Wayland Square!!!! The service is good. Better than the Starbucks at Thayer, Downtown, and Providence Place Mall for sure. DEFINITELY better than the Starbucks near Johnson&Wales. At this Starbucks they're nice and courteous and make your drinks the way you'd like or expect it to be. This is by far the most consistent Starbucks. Worth the game of Car-Tetris. read more

Good luck finding a parking spot! Better to drive a few blocks down Elmgrove and park on the street, then walk down. I've had friends get into all out BRAWLS in that parking lot! Usually very, very busy so I never bank on finding a table or place to sit right away, sometimes you have to do some stalking. Staff is always super, super friendly and I believe it's the only Starbucks in RI with the Clover brewing machine! If it's not too busy, they'll make your drink in it...soooooooo good! Even though I know a couple of people that work here, I still have to truth them a little bit. SCARY bathroom. I get this feeling that the rest of the place is kind of dirty too, though I can't put my finger on why. Maybe it's the arrangement of things, something out of place here or there, but overall I get the heebie-jeebies a little in here. Coffee is average SB, there is lots of seating both inside and out (well, lots for a SB) and the people are pretty friendly. I haven't figured out where you're supposed to park yet, so that may be a problem. But its proximity to the other shops in Wayland Square makes it a pretty convenient bet. Mix it up, The Edge coffee shop is about 1 minute away and is a local place. You can have SB anywhere. read more

Updated review: These Baristas are really awesome. If I could giev more than 5 stars, honestly, I would. I was having a really bad day today and when Elisha asked "Hows your day"- she actually meant it as a conversation and listened while I briefly spat out the sh*t that went down that was bringing me down. She agreed that really does suck and after I ordered told me my coffee was on her today. Really- it is such a kind small gesture but lifted my spirits. Small acts of human kindness should be shared because in my opinion- it is the little things that matter. Also, Peter and Lucy are always wonderful and keep the busy morning crowd going with great spirits.
