As a mother traveling from California with my 2 year-old daughter who has a cast on her leg and is visibly injured..I was appalled by the treatment I received at this Starbucks. In 90-degree heat, I politely asked for a small cup of ice after placing an online order, only to be met with a cold, robotic response about "policy" and "procedure." Let me be very clear: if your staff can't show basic human decency and compassion for a hurt toddler, you should not be working in customer service. The refusal to provide something as simple as ice to a child is inexcusable. What kind of person, let alone team, turns away a child needing relief from the heat with such indifference? Even more telling, regulars in line told me they weren't surprised. That says everything. This location clearly has a reputation for lacking empathy and basic decency. To the staff on duty that day: (specifically "Molly" and the Manager) there's a reason why this is where you work. In any other professional setting, treating a parent and child like that would get you fired on the spot. Do better or step aside and let someone with an ounce of humanity take your place. Nice friendly service, but this place is a STYE! The dining room has trash all over the floors, and clumps of dust...dust bunnies!...all over the floor. It's not just from a busy day of service. It is possible that the dust came from the top of the heating ducts above that is also covered in dust. The bathroom is not much better ..the mirror is very worn and discolored (delsilvered). September 13, 2025. Sign on door said restrooms closed(there was an art fair nearby). I went through this a month ago with the dream cruise. I used to be regular so some know me. I asked does this mean customers can not use restroom today. They said yes! So we went to Birmingham Roast with great service and restrooms open. As much as we all complain about the prices at Starbucks or how there are better mom and pop coffee shops or whatever, you can't deny the comfortability of walking into one. The amazing smells, the familiar menu and the extra nice baristas; I haven't really met any angry Starbucks employees. They either hide it well or on some level, they enjoy what they do. My daughter and I were walking the mean streets of Birmingham in 90° weather for some reason and came across this gem. We were greeted by happy folks and the cool, refreshing air. I never knew about Starbucks Reserves until this year and luckily I happened to come across this one while on vacation. They have a cool bar with a menu of coffee drinks that you won't find at a regular Starbucks. I tried the Starbucks Reserve Iced Hazelnut Bianco Latte; for iced coffee lovers, you need to try this! It has a nutty flavor, perfect sweetness, and the flavor from the reserve espresso is unreal. The location is in downtown Birmingham, very busy, but service was great. read more

This is probably my favorite Starbucks in the state. It's a very cozy place, with tables and chairs spaced out and a fireplace too! It does get quite busy due to its close location to downtown Birmingham. Don't fret, however! Drinks are always made promptly and properly. Baristas have always been nothing but kind. I highly recommend the Starbucks Reserve Iced Hazelnut Bianca Latte! It tastes nutty and similar to Nutella. Not too sweet, but very tasty. Everyone at this location is so friendly and did a great job keeping distance while wearing their masks. Being my first time at this store, the barista was very helpful and knowledge. Got the iced hazelnut Bianco latte, which I was expecting it to taste like the hazelnut syrup but pleasantly surprised at the nutty flavor. I typically don't get sugar in the drinks I order because it's way too sweet for my taste but the sugar was in the form of a paste they mix in with whole milk, so it didn't taste very sweet to me. The drink also came in a plastic cup that can be reused again, which is a plus! There was some construction so parking could be challenging during the week, but parking is free on Sundays, so it wasn't too difficult to find a spot. Will definitely be back! read more

I'm loving these Starbucks Reserves! We came in the evening and there were many others sitting here chatting or on their computers. It's a very open space and cozy. There's a fireplace in here! I got the peach tranquility tea, which is my absolute favorite. My older sis wanted matcha with soy. And my other sister got the hazelnut Bianca latte. It was cool that the baristas took the time to do latte art. They even do pour overs here and you can even watch them get actual grounds to tamp! Wow! As a first time patron of this Reserve location I was impressed by the coziness and lodge feeling of the decor. Ok I let a year go by after the three previous experiences and returned this week to try the "Reserve Bar" experience. (This is the only one in the Detroit area I believe) It's still not entirely clear how it works... you are supposed to order from the Reserve menu if you're sitting at the Reserve Bar.. of you want your regular latte, you get in line like all the other Starbucks. But almost every seat at the Reserve Bar was taken by students with laptops who were drinking out of the regular coffee to-go cups... So that's benefit number one though: very cool to-go plastic cup and lid with my cherry nitro brew! See pic below... very very good drink and my new fave so I will be back. (No options..not sold anywhere else, lol). And it was only $5 which is what I spend on anything from the regular menu and this came with sit-down barista service... so it's actually a better deal. I ordered their Guatemalan pour over. A pour over can take 7+ mins. A quick way to ruin the drink is by adding too much milk. When that happens, it's another 5+ mins. When ordering a pour over with milk, I recommend you tell them to leave room in advance and request to have the milk on the side so that you can mix it into the coffee to yourself. The problem is that Starbucks no longer provide self service stations. Otherwise, they pour in what they dump out without asking. Their Guatemalan reserve coffee is a mild roast; however, it tastes more like lighter roast. From comments, this location is not a reserve; therefore an Americano will do. read more

I am not really a fan of Starbucks, but my office is a quick walk to this location so I typically stop by more in the summer and fall for cold brew and the pumpkin spice cold brew. But I don't mind coming here because I have to say, this is the best Starbucks. I place my order on the app and walk immediately over to pick it up, and 90% of the time it's ready for me. When I have to wait, it is never longer that a few minutes, and usually they're really busy then. The coffee is always perfect too. It's nice to have a small Starbucks reserve close by as I like to switch it up and go to this elevated Starbucks every once and a while. The decor on the inside is nice and homey. Their reserve drinks are definitely a little bit better than your standard Starbucks drink. The Starbucks Reserve in downtown Birmingham is a nice upgrade to the traditional Starbucks experience. They have their special roasts offered in a sleek, minimalist coffee shop experience. It's uncluttered, with tons of natural light, floor to ceiling windows, wood detailing, etc. Lots of things to order that you can't find in your run of the mill SBs but if you want a traditional flavored latte, they've got that too. My only complaint? Seating isn't quite as plentiful as other Starbucks locations. In attempting to keep it minimal and airy, they sacrificed their tables. Fine if you're getting something to go. Not so fine if you're hoping to take a meeting or get some work done for a bit. But otherwise, it's a great spot! read more

As many other have already stated, this new space is beautiful and much larger than a typical Starbucks. There is plenty of space to come in and relax, chat with a friend or even do some work. On my visit I snagged a spot at the bar. I like the bar concept, the barista comes over and takes your order rather than standing in a line. I was provided a menu to browse and the barista offered to answer any questions I had. I went with a Vanilla Creme Anglaise Macchiato. I almost didn't order this because I was afraid it would be too sweet. Surprisingly it wasn't sweet at all and you got more of the lemon and cinnamon flavors. When you're staying there to enjoy your beverage it is serviced in a real mug rather than a paper to go cup and mine came on a cute tray with the water I ordered. I enjoyed the fact that they had a range of sized starting at 8oz and going up. 8oz was the perfect size for an afternoon pick me up. In addition to interesting latte and macchiato flavors you won't find at a typical Starbucks location, they also offer affogato (ice cream and coffee) and flights of coffee which sounded very interesting. The new Starbucks Reserve opened on Friday in Birmingham and is the only Reserve store in the state as of yet - they're opening one in Detroit at the Book Cadillac hotel soon though. I'm not a coffee drinker, but my boyfriend is, so we stopped by today. He got one of the Nitro coffee drinks and I got a mint hot chocolate with soy milk. It was about $10 for both of those drinks, pretty pricey but there's usually an upcharge for soy milk, and the new Reserve drinks are a bit pricey too. There are a lot of nice sitting areas here if you are hanging out, we took our drinks to go but I would come back and meet friends here in the future. If you're a coffee drinker, I would definitely recommend stopping by and checking out the drinks that are specific to the Reserve Starbucks stores. The to-go cup they give you is reusable, as well. read more

This place looks gorgeous, but who would expect anything less in Birmingham. Before you even order you have to take in the fact that you're actually at a Starbucks that looks like a brewery. I picked up a caramel macchiato for myself and and came back for Nitro Cold Brew for a friend. Service was very nice and they walk around the corner to actually hand you your drink, or at least they've done so with me, maybe I'm special. Either way everyone working seems friendly. LOVE! I cannot get over how much I love this place! Easily the best Starbucks I have been to. First off, the decor of this location is astounding. I love the the Black with copper look. This is definitely a place I'd be comfortable sitting in for hours! They even have a fireplace. The coffee bar is probably the most impressive. You can sit and watch them brew your coffee or even pour a nitro for you if you'd like. The reserve menu is where it's at. I ordered be creme anglaise macchiato-life changing. I'm not a huge fan of sweet coffee but this definitely hit the spot. The reserve menu is served in reusable to go cups that are always nice to have and make the perfect Instagram pic the coffee was perfectly chilled, delightfully sweet and creamy. Coffee lovers rejoice! I am beyond excited to have a Starbucks Reserve in Michigan. The Birmingham location will be a win as it is centrally located. There is a lot of outdoor seating available at this location. Upon walking in, there's a full bar with stools and a lot of extra space to hang out and do work. I was psyched to see the new nitro brews offered on tap. The pricing is higher here but the drinks are new and more sophisticated. They offer affogato (coffee with ice cream) and coffee floats. Today, I probably had my best cuppa coffee I've ever had at Starbucks.. But before I even got to the counter, I was asked if "that?" is a service animal. Not even a hello from anyone! I've been many 'SB reserve bar' in NYC, Chicago etc. but I can say that this location is the best of the best. Spacious, Clean(even rest rooms are clean), Huge fireplace, art wall, friendly baristas.... Seating right next to the fireplace gives you relaxing moments. The sofas are super comfy! And sometimes they give you free samples of new menu. Here's the thing, this location gets a lot of foot traffic, so the speed of service is great. But there was a man who worked there that scolded me for bringing my dog inside with me to grab my mobile order. He was kind about it, so I didn't really question it. But then on two additional visits I saw multiple dogs that were also not service dogs and he was serving them without issue. I found that really frustrating. And then when I ordered my son an iced passion tea, I asked for literally a splash of tea and majority water, and mentioned it was for a toddler. He botched that too. I really love this Starbucks reserve in Downtown Birmingham. The space itself is awesome and the selection here is fantastic. I'm more of a tea girl myself.. never disappointed in any of the teas I have tried here. The pastries are always fresh and they continually have new selections. For the coffee lovers there are many more options of nitro cold brew and Siphon brewer that isn't available in regular Starbucks stores. I've been wanting to come here for possibly longer than they've been even open. As an already basic Starbucks obsessed chick, this place was a huge must visit for me. I don't know why it took so long considering I frequent Birmingham often, but geez, it was so good. First off, as I write this review, Birmingham is slightly chaotic... and by slightly I mean it was an obstacle course to get to this Starbucks. The walk from our should have taken 5 minutes, it took about 10-15. We had fun though, it was like we kept trying to figure out how to get to each side SAFELY. We could see the Starbucks from every angle, but could not just walk directly to it. So be prepared for that if there's still construction going on. The drinks were well worth the hike. The place was beautiful and the employees were all amazing! So kind and friendly. Alex was our bartender/barista hybrid who helped us out at the Reserve Bar. He explained the cool drinks they have and provided great service. The prices were not crazy high or different than a regular Starbucks and the unique variety makes it really fun to try. I really wanted to sit there all day and just try every single thing on the menu, but I settled on The Melrose. It was yummy. Aside from the different drinks, you really get to enjoy this new experience, especially if you're really used to your everyday Starbucks. I have been coming to the downtown Birmingham Starbucks for the last 25 years but since they "upgraded" and became the "Starbucks Reserve", the service surprisingly went down hill. The staff act dazed and confused. Today I mobile order a blond roast, with a shot of espresso and splash of heavy cream plus a carmel mochiatto. We arrive to the mochiatto and proceed to patiently wait for the second half of my order. Well after 10 minutes, I ask the guy behind the counter and he tells me they are not brewing blonde roast. It didn't occur to him to let me know or offer me an alternative . He was just going to skip it. When I asked for him to make my drink with espresso roast he acted like I was an inconvenience. The Reserve gets 5 stars simply for the fact that they have Nitro Cold Brew which is still somewhat tough to find in my area of Michigan. I have been to the Reserve Roastery in Seattle and raved about that experience. This place was much of the same. A lot of unique drinks and sitting areas with a great ambience to the place. If you have not tried a Starbucks Nitro Cold Brew - you are missing out. Nitrogen infused cold brew that fountains like a stout beer. I was expecting something over the top with this new location. I walked in and noticed open floor plan, exposed ceilings, one of the workers mumbled "this location cost a fortune to build" I'm thinking to myself "are you kidding me?" Looks like my grandfathers basement, just add a fireplace and a bar to it.. Not the type of Starbucks you wanna come and study at. It's set up more for a bunch of dudes sporting turtlenecks and round tortoise eye glass frames to sit and have a chat. Not clean at all, no paper towel, just a stupid Dyson hand blade dryer that actually contaminates your hands more than drying them.. manual pump soap, manual flush residential style toilet flush handle. Such a joke. I had to use my shirt to open the bathroom door. You guys just stole 20 from me for two coffees and you can't even give me some paper towel to open the door with?
