This place was super good. They had a long wait time to get in. It was packed. We had a pretty large group so we half expected to wait to get inside. Once we did it was well worth the wait to get in. The service was wonderful. Friendly servers and the food was amazing. The lighting in there was pretty low key dark so pictures were a little difficult to take for Yelp but it made for great ambiance even when the rest of the crowds were there for a game. read more

Probably my favorite lunch place, at least in Athens, if not anywhere. It's a great space and atmosphere and I have found every staff member I have interacted with to be super friendly and just great. My absolute favorite go-to is their slice and a salad for $6. The great thing about this is that you see other places do something similar for lunch sometimes but you can get Starland's at ANY TIME! The pizza is just solid. Crispy yet light crust and dough, generous with the toppings, good size slice, and even distribution of the toppings so every bite is as delicious as the last. The salad is the real winner. I love the Greek Salad. They really pack it full of the good stuff: romaine, red onion, cucumber, tomato, Kalamata olives (which are excellent quality olives), feta cheese and my favorite is they have some wonderfully flavorful cherry peppers. The only thing that is not quite to my tastes are the red onions. They are lightly pickled in something that makes them really tangy. In theory it goes wonderfully with a Greek salad. However, it is so tangy it takes over and I'd rather have the crunchy bite from a raw red onion. Overall it's a wonderful place for a great lunch, just to hang out or stop in for a pint. Love the Starland. Good vibe, great full bar (and bartenders who know what they are doing). Plenty of seating with an upstairs. My fav is the Little Sicilian calzone--it's huge with lots of gooey mozzarella to hold together all of the stuffings and ricotta. First time trying this place and really loved it!! Great atmosphere, they added outside tables in parking spots for COVID so we sat outside which was really nice. At first I thought the salad & a slice wouldn't fill me up but the slices are HUGE! It comes with one topping but each additional topping is only 50 cents! The pizza was crispy and delicious. **4.5 stars** Probably the best pizza in Athens. They do by the slice, which I appreciate. They also have a great deal for salad and a one-topping slice for $6 (except for Saturdays I think). Their spirales (kind of like a stromboli) are also really good, but are sometimes unavailable and generally take a while to arrive. Service was great when we stopped in for lunch. The inside was clean, with a slightly different decor. Not noisy. Booths and long tables. Outside tables available. Parking is on the street - with parking meters- if you are lucky enough to find a place. Great NY style pizza place given we are in Athens, GA. The pizza slices were crispy and had no flop when picked up. The sauce had a little bit of a kick to it, surprisingly, but i liked it. The service is always great. The pizza is delicious. We always order the hungry Sasquatch. The picture shows some pieces with no cheese bc of a sensitivity. We went a lot when this restaurant was Transmetropolitan: ...the pizza quality and taste is better and much more consistent now. The vegetables are cut well - not too chunky which I find unpleasant on a pizza -a bit crunchy; the meat ingredients are better quality -the owner told us that the meatballs are handmade! And this place has the best atmosphere for pizza downtown: nice inside and you can sit outside - great picnic tables - great with a toddler. Been a few years since I'd had pizza in downtown Athens and realized Starland is new since my last time so we decided to give it a try. Stopped in for lunch and there was one bartender/hostess/waitress which was fine because there were only two tables including us, the problem was it was hard to get refills, napkins, etc. We got the white pizza and it was delicious. Amazing draft options with all the great local breweries and a tremendous selection of liquors. I would eat here again in a heart beat based on our first trip here. read more

I really hoped this place would upgrade, but it's still the same terrible place that Transmet was. Management and owners think they can fool the public by adding photos and a new bar and changing the name of the restaurant. Let me warn all of you, this is still Transmet, just a different name. They were going bankrupt, changed their name to try to start fresh, and added a couple things. I wasn't planning on writing this, but the service there was something I've never seen before. The waitress lost MY credit card, and wouldn't own up to it. She just said, "I'm so sorry about that. We will keep looking." I came back to the restaurant to look for my card, and she completely ignored me even though there were only 4 other people in the restaurant (because it's terrible JUST LIKE TRANSMET WAS!!!!!!!). Now I have to order a new credit card. Thanks Transmet 2.0 They burn their crust, which is usually my favorite part of the pizza. I will say though, their Greek Salad is pretty good. Have been to Starland Pizzeria twice since they opened. Once for a lunch dine-in which was awesome. For only $6 I got an amazing combo pizza and slice deal. The Greek salad was enormous and probably had one of the best slices of meatball and green pepper pizza I've ever had. My daughter and I also ordered a few calzones for take out a few days later since my experience was such a good one for my first time here. Once again blown away! The calzones were huge and they had to place them in two seperate pizza boxes since they were so large. Suffice it to say, we had calzones for dinner AND lunch the next day as we couldn't finish them. I highly recommend this place to locals and tourists alike. Oh and the staff was on it. Let's start off with something good: the service. Service was good- our waitress was nice and attentive and great with refills. Now on to the nitty gritty. This place took over a beloved pizzeria in Athens- Transmet. Starland is nothing like it. It's not good at all. We started our meal with the garlic and spinach spirale- the menu didn't indicated that it also had mushrooms in it, but it did. It arrived terribly under baked to the point it was raw in the middle. It was overstuffed thus hindering the doughs ability to cook at all. The cooks probably saw that the cheese was burning on top and thought that the spirale was done cooking. This just shows that the cooks are inexperienced. At this point we hoped that the pizza was a little better. We ordered a medium Bianca and added black olives and banana peppers. First let's start with the price- extra toppings for a medium pizza are $2 a pop- it's a total rip off considering the toppings we asked for probably cost 25 cents tops. The pizza was a total let down. It starts with a base of ricotta cheese then is topped with mozzarella, Parmesan and basil. The ricotta lets out so much oil that the cheese on top just peels off the pizza. The cheeses were not a good combination and FYI when you chop basil you don't chop the stems too. There were inedible parts of the basil plant on top of our pizza like woody stems- this also indicates laziness with the cooks. The black olives were so tinny in flavor (meaning you can taste that they are from a can) that we had to pick them off. Ultimately we just peeled all the cheese and toppings off and at the crust- it was better that way. Don't waste your money here. There are much better pizza joints in Athens. On a side note: the tables in the booths have inappropriate and derogatory words scratched into them- you might want to look into that. read more

Anyway, the slice was filling with a dough that was a little crispier than what I'm used to but excellent in its own right. The salad was amazing - fresh and plentiful. We ordered the spinach and mushrooms spirale (kind of like cinnamon rolls but with pizza dough and stuffed with your choice of ingredients). They were SO GOOD I haven't been able to stop thinking about them. So buttery and delicious, I'm not sure I'll ever order pizza instead of those. We also had the meatball appetizer, which was really great. I hadn't been to Transmet in years, so I'm glad to have something a little different there! read more

I have eaten here on multiple occasions and always brought my friends, but tonight, I ordered through take out for the first time. My boyfriend placed the order and I picked it up and only knew the name not what was ordered and accidentally picked up the wrong pizza. We called back and explained how I mixed it up and they were so willing to work with us to correct the issue. Management was so helpful and kind and absolutely amazing to us despite me being dumb and not knowing what to pick up- will be telling everyone I know about my great experience because I am so thrilled with the service. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Athens! New look, good food and great service. The pizza slices are still just as good as they were when it was Transmet. Yes they cost a little bit more, but to be honest they were practically giving them away for years so ya can't really complain about it. My favorite thing on the menu is the Zesto Pesto sandwich that I like to add chicken to. They also have a tempeh option for vegetarians! The Starland salad is my next favorite it's so vibrant and delicious and you can get a big one for the whole table to enjoy. Their cocktail menu got 10x better, you have to try one of their frozen drinks. Also, there's a huge upstairs that is great to rent out for parties or to just have a nice cozy dinner up there. I ordered a Caesar salad for delivery. The delivery service was quick and wonderful. However, the salad description said shaved Parmesan and it came with regular cheap grated Parmesan. The description also said it had bacon bits, but there were no bacon bits on it. The upside is the croutons were delicious and the chicken was really good. read more

Just started out at UGA this year and this is by far my favorite pizza place here. I love the calzones, they are huge and worth the price. My roommates love the pizza and the atmosphere. Weekends can get busy so if you don't like being around people probably go during the week. read more

This is the best pizza in Athens. I have only lived in town about a year, and finding quality pizza like I was used to in the Northeast was a struggle until I stumbled upon Starland. The crust is thin and crisp, and the toppings are plentiful. If meat is your thing, then you'll love this place as the sausage and meatballs are made in house. On top of it all, the bar is fully stocked and the bartenders are attentive and overall just nice people. read more
