I needed help putting a sophisticated birthday party together for my boss/girlfriend and came across Starline's stylish locations on Airbnb. It was just what I needed; something tasteful in the Southbay. Everything couldn't have gone any smoother. From the beginning with all of my many questions, hosts Ivana and Christina were quick to answer all of my questions, even had recommendations for the event planning TNT productions, and had mobile gourmet tacos and florist who also put together all the balloons. The lighting and property was just georgous. Everything happened seamlessly, and before I knew it, 4 days later, it was all over and I got my entire deposit back! Even though maybe didn't deserve it! She literally provided me with detail about the area from trash, internet, electricity since I'm very new to the area. SHADY. I booked a house for my wedding reception through AirBnb. It really was a beautiful house. Told them upfront I needed it for 40-50 people. After I paid them they told me they wanted $50 for every four extra people IN CASH on arrival. They would not accept it through Airbnb. Says right there on each listing "do not communicate or exchange money outside of Airbnb." They were extremely rude about it. They had a bunch of weird rules they sprung on me the day before, like "no shoes inside the house" (this was listed as 'appropriate for events') and something like you must take all the sheets and pillow cases off, make sure all the kitchen supplies were in their place, etc. Made me feel like they would have found any excuse to charge me after the fact. Also, the bride went to check out the house a few weeks before the wedding and said none of the outside lighting worked. I messaged them to ask about getting it fixed before the reception and I only got a vague answer. Probably wouldn't have been fixed. Luckily I called Airbnb and they're under investigation now. Too bad my refund wasn't immediate, this situation put me out like $2k. I almost just gave them the money, but after speaking with Airbnb customer service, and they told me I was in compliance with all their rules, I did not feel comfortable giving them like $800 extra in cash. read more

I did read her not so good reviews before but honestly if you read between the lines you can see that there are people who wanna complain. There is a flea infestation at the S 8th st apartments and I found Caroline to be... Unprofessional. I gave her my deposit and she not once contacted me with information about the unit. All in all I felt that dealing with this person was stressful and I felt like I was doing her job for her. I had to constantly check in and remind her I'm over here waiting to plan my life... Do your job.... Hello! It got closer and closer to my move in date and I never heard from her. Then there we are, my move in date, the place is dirty and the way it was when the last tenants left it. The first time I saw the place it was occupied and she said she'd get me a new stove and flooring. Then it changed to a refurbished stove. Move in day, same old stove. She did half way keep her word by putting in new floor in the common living area. But left the old linoleum, again never cleaned and infested with fleas... She says she bombed twice. But that doesn't mean anything. There's animals at that property as well. I feel bad for the people living there. Caroline, if you're going to rent those units you need to be a responsible property manager and spray for bugs and keep the grounds clean.. That's pretty basic. Every tenant has the right to a clean non-bug infested living space. Pull. It. Together. Also, it's extremely inconsiderate to leave a future tenant hanging. When you agree on a move in date it should be ready. And if you messed up by not getting the place together in time YOU should be the one contacting ME letting me know. Not saying "oh yeah it'll be ready every time I check in with you" You're a dishonest a disrespectful person and shouldn't be managing anything. I know this review sounds heated. But I really hope whoever's reading this reconsiders dealing with her. It just isn't worth it. She may be fine a fine person outside of her work environment. But there's no way she should be trusted by any renter. read more

Right on the Ocean! I absolutely loved our weekend. The view from our bed was stunning. Wish we could have stayed longer. It was very clean and the sheets were SO soft. Most places have hard, cheap sheets that sometimes irritate my skin, not this place! AND they don't skimp in cheap toilet paper...we will definitely be back. I messaged her and she responded quickly. I gave her all the details on what the property was being used for and she was more than happy to accommodate us. After about a week, she wrote up a contract, and I sent her the deposit via Apple Pay to lock in the dates. To be honest I was slightly skeptical since it is so many scams happening on rental properties nowadays. Anyways, everything went as planned, my daughter had a memorable party, place is clean, mansion-size and "princess like". Stumbled across an apartment that Starline Real Estate so happens to manage. First time I called about the unit, a lady named Caroline was able to get some information to me about it and was able to go view the apartment. For an apartment that was described as move-in ready, there was equipment laying around, smoke detectors that needed to be installed and crickets in the shower. Nonetheless, we saw potential in the unit and decided to apply. Starline's website is in need of some updating and their web-based application has glitches. More on this later. Submitted the applications on a Tuesday night and waited for a response as to what else would be needed. Waited all the way til 3pm the following day and decided to call just to confirm that the information was received and to see if there was anything else I needed to do. Suffice to say the woman who I spoke to (not sure if this was Caroline) didn't seem as eager to give me information as my next steps. Was asked to submit 3 months worth of bank statements and left it at that. Later that evening, after getting the statements and emailing them, I receive a rather rude email from Starline Real Estate: "On our website it very specifically states to fill out everything completely. We also don't accept anyone with previous BKs. Straight from the owners "Not interested in people who do not completely fill out the application to rent. they also both didn't fill out that they had or didn't committed bankruptcy or not." I guess it's too much to ask for a simple greeting nowadays but that's okay. Their online application is faulty. I filled out the checkbox that stated that I had no bankruptcies but noticed that when moving on to another question and selecting an answer, the application would remove checkmarks from previously answered questions. The notion that I would purposely not provide answers (especially for something as important as whether or not I had a bankruptcy) to a real estate management company is bonkers. If Starline Real Estate was as quick to make sure their units were in showing condition and their websites were functional as they were quick to let me know I didn't fill out something correctly on an application then they'd be suitable solution for your real estate needs. Apartment-hunting is stressful enough without a company like Starline making it all the more difficult. There's nothing "boutique" about this place besides maybe the uppityness in which they communicate. You would think they were out here renting castles. Maybe it was just a bad day. We all have them but Starline never replied to my email back to them letting them know that I did in fact answer the question about not having a bankruptcy. They came across as if I didn't answer it on purpose which is untrue. There lack of communication led me to email Starline to withdraw my application. There are far better business to turn to if you're trying to find a place to live. Do yourselves a favor and stay as far away as you possibly can. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Honestly had the worst experience with Caroline. I contacted Caroline to rent a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom duplex in San Pedro. Cute little place that looked promising from the pictures online, but was missing ones of the rooms, that mattered to me, the bedrooms and bathrooms. We made arrangements to view the place on the nearest Saturday (only a few days away), as she said she stopped showing at 5:30 pm. She then ended up postponing our appointment to view the place, there being "issues" that the owner had to "fix". This should have been my first warning not to peruse renting through her. She then promises that she will not consider any applications until mine is received. This reeled me back in and lead me to believe that I would at least have consideration when the place was available to view. When the home is available to view again, I make arrangements to view the same day, and put my application in ASAP. She had already accepted an applicant (shortly after arranging for me to view the place) and the line of "I wont consider any applications until I receive yours" was clearly forgotten. Yes, there is a part of me that understands rental properties are in high demand and you do what you have to to fill the place.. But I didn't think it would be too hard to let me know that she had one in the running and to put mine in before the decision was made... If she really wanted to consider my application. My fiance and I can more than well afford the property and I just can't believe that we weren't even allotted consideration, as promised. I judge people on their character and how they stick to their word. Clearly keeping their word, and good business, has gone to the way side with this company. read more

Was very helpful in finding me a great deal for an ocean front vacation rental without all of the excess fees of some of the websites out there. Initially I was apprehensive bc I had to do a credit check but good thing this service didn't even ding my credit...certainly worthwhile rather than paying an extra almost $1,000 from alternative options for accommodations. I recently made a decision to help out one of the kids in finding and renting and apartment, hopefully nearby. We found one near Cabrillo Beach, in San Pedro. While not to everyone's taste, I loved the wonderful features of the building and the unit, which looked to be from the 1920s. It had beautiful wood floors and a lot of built ins. During the process, I found that working with Caroline of Starline Realty made the whole experience easy. After we got the apartment, any time we had issues (and nothing major), Caroline was on top of things right away. She has a wonderful attitude and really seems to care about people. When my child decided to move back home, Caroline went out of her way to accommodate us, even though we had not finished up our year's lease. Thanks to her, I now feel better about having to go through such an experience, again. read more

I rented from Caroline at Starline between August 2011 and August 2012. Earlier in this time span her company was called Asset Property Management, and towards the end of my tenancy changed to Starline Real Estate. I had a great experience renting from Starline. When I first moved in I had a severely clogged bathroom drain; Caroline worked quickly with her contractors to get the issue resolved (required piping replacement!). I noticed that as tenants would move out of my building, the units they were leaving were being renovated before the next tenant could move in, meaning the units were being well taken care of and kept modern. The thing that I appreciate the most was how reasonable Caroline was when I moved out. The past two apartment complexes I lived at unfairly nickel-and-dimed me when it came time to return my security deposit; not so with Caroline. I took good care of the place and the respect was reciprocated with the full return of my deposit. I moved farther north to El Segundo to be closer to friends & work, but if I ever move back to San Pedro I would not hesitate to do business with Caroline again. read more

She does not care about her renters and is all about money. I personally have rented from her and she tried to wrongfully evict me so she could raise the rent where I was staying... I lost my brother in this apartment, so for those who are claiming it "smells like death" that's because more than likely all she did was paint over everything. The time I was there I noticed so many things wrong with the place. There was mold, plumbing was messed up, there was a weird plant or bush growing in one of the bottom cabinets and so much more. Whoever tries to rent from her, just know you will not have a good experience. The apartment I rented was 225 w 8th St... So do not go there!!!!!!!!! read more

I'm not one to write reviews (1st review, in fact), but people should be informed of what they would be getting into, especially if you're in a time constraint and need to find a place quickly. Dealing with Starline Real Estate has been time-consuming and frustrating, to say the least. About 2 months ago, I saw their listing for a beautiful studio (or so I think; I have yet to be able to view the inside of the building) in San Pedro. I was told that there was already too many people inquiring and applying to this unit, was not offered to apply, and was instead offered a "cheaper" alternative in another part of town (struck me as condescending for them to assume I couldn't afford the unit). Fast forward to this week. Another unit in the same building became available. My fiancée called several times, within the hour of the listing being created, to no avail. I called and was finally able to get in touch with Caroline. I explained that I was very interested in renting the unit and would be available to view it the next day. I was told that I could email our applications to her to expedite the process. I emailed over our applications (ineffective protocol they have required me to print out the applications, fill them out, scan them, and attach them to the email.. mind you, I had to do this at work to get the email in quickly). This is where things became frustratingly unorganized. My fiancée and I began receiving texts from Starline regarding other apartments that I had never expressed interest in. When I texted this SAME NUMBER to CONFIRM that she had in fact received my email and to CONFIRM our appointment for today, I received no reply. Today, I received a text informing me that they had already accepted an application from someone else and were waiting on a deposit. When I asked 1) if she had not received my email with the apps and 2) if this meant our viewing appointment would be cancelled, I got a short & vague "yes." followed by "the other applicant had higher income and higher credit score & they are available to move in sooner (HELLO. I called within two hours of the listing, made an appointment for the next day and said I wanted to move WITHIN 1-2 weeks or ASAP... how much SOONER are you talking about?!). The whole ordeal was a big waste of my time. I set aside time today to drive to San Pedro to view this unit. I wasted time gathering all the necessary documents they require. Only to NOT be able to view the unit. FOR THE SECOND TIME. It's astonishing how someone can run a business like this and manage properties with such inefficiency and lack of organization. Honestly makes me think I dodged a bullet if these are the same people I would have to answer to if I lived in that property. read more

This review is on the property located at Cabrillo Beach called The Riviera, studio Unit #14. The building itself is a beautiful 1920s Spanish building that I've dreamed of living in since I was a little boy. The initial appointment went well, the unit was clean and bright. The unit had a beautifully open kitchen/main room set up with cutouts in the wall between the two. The views from the main room look out onto the marina and the Vincent Thomas Bridge. At night with the windows open you can hear waves crashing out front. There's a huge closet, and hardwood floors. I filled out an application and after 1 day Caroline let me know I was approved and I moved in a few days later. I lived there for about 16 months. The building is very cool. Lots of character. Parking is always available in the back parking lot. And lots of it usually, which is nice when visitors stop by to take in the views, or join you for a beer down on the beach which is literally a stones throw from the front of the building. The guests in the building were always quiet and respectful. Laundry is on site and usually open. There's a front porch on each level with patio furniture that is best used for a cup of coffee early in the morning while watching the sunrise. Caroline is a very sweet person who I never had any issues with. She's understanding, prompt, and always available even if an emergency should arise over a holiday weekend or what not. There was never an issue with hot water, with mail deliveries, fed-ex packages, setting up cable, setting up wifi, or anything else really. I had some of the best times living in this building going for runs on the coast, walking up the street to the "The Diner" for delicious breakfast or "The Lighthouse Cafe"(my favorite) for anything really. All in all it was the best experience I've had as a renter and at some point I'd love to move back. I only moved because I started a commission-only position and knew it would take roughly 8+ months to get on my feet. I moved out June 2016. I can't express enough how enjoyable it was living in this building and dealing with the friendly staff that runs it. For that I'll forever look fondly on my time spent at this beautiful building. read more

We rented a 1 bedroom apartment at 3825 Bluff Place #20 in San Pedro for the month of February, 2018. Caroline was very responsive whenever I contacted her except for the email I sent yesterday. Our experience not a good one, and it was extremely odd. It began the day before we were to arrive. I received an email from Caroline saying that the bathtub needed to be reglazed and asking whether we would like it done the morning of our arrival or after we checked in. Our lease was signed on March 2, 2017 so there had been 11 months prior to our arrival to take care of this. The glazing was done the morning of our arrival day, so the windows had to stay open, and we couldn't use the shower/ bath for 24 hours. The apartment was filthy with dust balls everywhere. There was even a string of dust hanging from the ceiling. I contacted Caroline to tell her, and she said she would speak to the cleaning person. She may have, but I never heard another word. We cleaned the apartment ourselves. The wood on the windows was rotted out, and the windows didn't stay open without being propped up. The screens didn't even fit the windows. The apartment had a strong odor so we bought a candle to cover it. A few days later, Caroline emailed to say her handyman was coming in to do something on the wall by the TV. He ended up coming in twice. I had asked beforehand if there was a TV. I was told there was a 65 inch TV, but we were not told there was no cable. The 3rd week we were there we received another email that a new couch was being delivered the next day. Then we received a second email that the couch was, in fact, being delivered that very day. We were out for the day so I requested that Caroline meet the delivery men at the apartment as we had not put all our valuables away. She asked when we would return so she could plan her day. Did she think we were going to wait for the delivery men? Upon coming back that evening, the couch was delivered, and someone had remade our bed! It felt weird and very intrusive. The dishes and silverware looked as if they were gleaned from a flea market: nothing matched. There was one coffee cup. After checking out, we received our security deposit a week later. Image our shock to see Caroline had deducted a standard cleaning fee of $65.00. We had cleaned the bathroom and kitchen and had swept the apartment leaving it cleaner than when we arrived, yet she charged us a cleaning fee. I emailed her to object, but I got no response. The apartment was a mile from where we needed to be, and the view overlooking the Pacific Ocean was beautiful; however, the lack of cleanliness and the overall deterioration of the apartment resulted in a very unpleasant experience. I cannot in good conscience recommend renting this apartment or using Caroline of Starline Properties. read more
