I have been a steady user of limo services (car services) in various cities for decades. Thus far Starlite has been exactly what I need in Carlsbad. They are the best I have found here after a year of searching. And I live here now. I am also an intermittent user of Lyft, but for something critical (like trips to an airport) I don't trust Lyft as much. As an old boss of mine used to say, "customers like to have a throat to choke when they are upset about something". If Lyft or one of its drivers makes a mistake, I am out of luck. If a limo driver makes a mistake, there is an actual person with an actual name and phone number that I can call, and that person will work hard to fix the problem, whatever it might be. The limo business is all about communicating with customers, scheduling drivers, making sure those drivers do the right thing, getting the money to them (or from them if the rider pays in cash), and dealing with unexpected problems. So a rating for a limo company is a rating of two different things: *How good is the owner at accurate scheduling, last-minute problem solving, and communication with customers? *How extensive and reliable is the network of drivers that the owner works with? Most limo companies have relationships with other companies to borrow drivers when needed. It takes time to build those relationships and it takes care to maintain them. Lots of mutual trust. I rate Starlite Limousines 5 stars on both. I became a customer of Starlite Limousines when my previous limo company made two hard-to-forgive mistakes. (They sent a driver to pick me up at LAX despite my scheduling a pickup at SAN. And another time they scheduled a ride to the airport for the wrong date, so no driver showed to pick me up on the morning of my flight). The owner was not a native speaker of English, but I am more fluent in his language than he is in mine, so I usually did every communication in both languages just to be sure. Starlite is not cheap. But you get what you pay for, and for most trips that I take, it's still cheaper than driving myself to the airport and paying to park. Obviously it is much more convenient. If I want to gamble on something cheaper, I'll take Lyft and not a car service. But I am not a gambler. I plan to continue using Starlite Limousines for my car service needs in North County. read more
