My nephew was just a kid and like me, loved having the freedom of a bicycle so I decided to give him my old classic Stumpjumper. Well, my nephew grew up and got a car and one day asked me if I wanted my bike back which I very happily took back. But it had been sitting in the garage for years. I originally took it to two shops in SoCal and they both said around $400. Didn't have time to fix it before moving to Arlington so took my bike with me and took it to another shop in the area and they said $800! I wasn't crazy about that so came here to Big Wheel. The owner looked at my bike and was like, $150-200. I was like, naw my bike needs a lot of work. Why don't you hold on to it and let me know? Well, he fixed it up and charged me $200! All those other shops were going to buy me new wheels. He was like, I took a good look at your wheels and they're old, but you don't need new ones. You can ride those out until they blow. Agreed. He also said he could restore it (my bike was filthy) but what was the point? It's a mountain bike. Agreed. So replaced some cables, a spoke, tightened up all the loose joints, oiled and ready to ride. I rode it to my car from the shop and it rides great! Yep, this is the place.

I really appreciated that they didn't just fix it--they made sure I understood what happened. And the little details made such a difference: they even asked me what kind of music I wanted them to play in the store while they were working on my bike. Such friendly, knowledgeable, and thoughtful customer service. I felt really taken care of and will definitely be coming back! Highly recommend Big Wheel!

Cherry blossoms, tulip fields, the Iwo Jima Memorial, the Washington Monument in the distance -- all from the seat of an e-bike that does half the work for you. I had been less than enthusiastic since our last tandem bike jaunt in DC left me ragged and looking forward to the end. We rented a tandem bike from a known rental in DC; the bike was rickety and took effort even on the completely flat route we were on. My GF found Pedego and opted for the tandem electric bike. This was a 180 degree experience from the other rental company jn DC. The owner was friendly, attentive, enthusiastic and really made us feel welcome. He knows his bikes gave us a quick run down that made us feel comfortable. The bikes are impeccabley maintained and he's thought of everything including helmets, storage pouch, bike lock, flat tire kit etc. He was even extremely well versed on the route to Mt. Vernon. Every pointer he gave us was spot on. We made it to Mt. Vernon and enjoyed food, history, and culture. The way back was fun since the bike did all the work, electric is the way to go for tandem bike long hauls. I plan on coming back to buy some accessories for my own fat tire e-bikes. This was a memorable experience that was easy and affordable.

Yep, tire flat. So I jump online to figure out what time this bike shop opens, 11AM. I call in case they do a seasonal shutdown and they confirm they are open for business. We are promptly served, about 5 folks working upfront. We are in/out within 30 minutes with a new tire tube installed plus some advice on future service I will need after I request an inspection for other defects. So I suspect I'll take my bike back at the end of this riding season or early Spring 2025. Their inventory is awesome. There was a customized none-motorized bike upfront waiting for pickup that cost $8K. Mine blowing! They have lots of e-bike too. They have lots of bikes, period. They have a small 2 seat waiting area with coffee service. I bought my bike from them, many moons ago and she's still in pretty good shape(except from being dirty I was told with a smile). The recommended future service stuff is low cost routine maintenance type stuff IMO.

I was contacted after the original due date to inform me of the additional length of time. Once the repair was completed, I needed an adjustment to meet my original specs. This adjustment was performed while I waited, which I was happy about. Lastly, the final cost was about 20% higher than the estimate. No explanation offered. Overall, the shop is cool, nice inventory, nice location, plenty of accessories, cool staff and a competent repair shop. Hours of operation are from 12-5 from M-Sat which doesn't fit a normal customer's work schedule at all. I had to either take off work or plan a Saturday around this repair. But having said that, I'm sure management has a good reason for these hours of operation.

AVOID THIS SHOP AT ALL COSTS. I have had two very negative experiences with their service…read moredepartment and will never come back. In the most recent instance I called asking about a handlebar swap on my gravel bike. As you can see from my transcript of the call below, I clearly stated all the facts up front (Pinarello Grevil F7 2024, integrated cable routing, hydraulic disc brakes, mechanical shifting, separate bar and stem). They quoted me a price of $72 or ~$75 with tax. I came into the store today with the bike, went up to the counter and politely asked them to confirm that the price would be $72. The worker said no and then printed me out a quote $336 -- nearly FIVE TIMES the cost I was quoted on the phone. I would understand a small price difference. But ~FIVE TIMES THE PRICE? I walked away feeling extremely misled and deceived. Is it normal for them to lie to potential customers about the price to get them in the door and then upcharge them later? The time before I took my road bike w/ clip on aerobars into the shop for bar tape and re-wrapping. With a sales associate I picked out a tape, after I was told it would be long enough to cover both the main bar AND the aerobars. Upon returning I was told "Sorry, there wasn't enough for the aerobars" and was given the bike back. I got halfway home and realized they hadn't asked me to pay! Not wanting to be accused of theft, I turned around and had to come back and pay them. The cost I believe was close to $50 -- more than the cost of the tape itself.

Unfortunately, I was young, didn't have the time and/or resources at that moment to research service centers for my bike, so I found the closest possible. I was a poor Specialist in the Army and new to motorcycling. I took her to this shop multiple times, but the last time I took her was the literally the last time. I'd had poor service prior, but I'm a forgiving soul. Anyways, I was riding around the D.C. area. My instrument panel and electronics completely shut-off. I was still good, mechanically, in that she was still running normally, but I couldn't gauge my speed or verify anything via my dash unit. So, I took her in to Clinton Cycles. Upon receipt of my "repaired" baby, I began the ride home. About halfway home, the instrument panel/dash went out again. As I was close to home, I figured it was safer to get home and call the dealership. The individual (male) in the service center answered asked me a few questions, then asked if I'd be able to ride my bike back into the shop for evaluation. As my bike was still mechanically sound, I did just this. Approximately two weeks later, I get a call from Clinton Cycles. They stated that there was an issue with the battery and claimed that I had tampered with the battery cables after returning from the shop. I told them I hadn't even removed my seat after returning, as I had little, if any, knowledge of motorcycle electronics, or motorcycles in general, at that time. My parents were visiting during the time I went back to the shop, and my dad came with me. He's a car savant, although he doesn't know much about motorcycles. As I spoke with the service tech at the service desk, they repeated that the battery cables were damaged, and blamed me for tampering with them. They doubled down when I explained I hadn't even removed the seat after their service. My dad is a firecracker, a Vietnam artillery vet that doesn't take sh*t from people trying to get over on someone, anyone. But they, in so many words, basically said they could care less that he served and had no business talking with them. I was young and wanted my bike back, so I paid their fee to return my bike. I sold her shortly thereafter, partly because we were moving and had our first newborn in-tow, and partly because of my experience. I later bought my second bike, a GXS-R1000. Had a great experience each time I took her (Jasmine) into the shop in Washington state. 16 years later I'm riding a 2020 Ducati Diavel 1260S. And I love Coleman Powersports (both the Woodbridge and Falls Church locations)! To think I almost gave up on riding because of the experience with my first bike. For all you riders out there, new and experienced, please research your shops. Unless Clinton Cycles has undergone a DRASTIC overhaul and has a decent longevity of positive reviews, I'd jump off a 100-ft cliff with a vespa and a prayer before I visited this shop again. I thank God I jumped back into the water with my next 2 bikes. It re-affirmed my love for motorcycling. It also restored my faith in good shops with good people. There are many great shops, but Clinton Cycles isn't one of them.

However, considering it was a cash purchase it took too long. I purchased my Chev. The Parts dept is not very friendly or helpful and twice has given me wrong information/prices or said they were unsure. I went to buy an accessory with a 20% birthday coupon they gave me and found that the price on the product was jacked up 20% over MSRP so final price was MSRP. Got same product on line with free shipping for 15% below MSRP.
