I had nagging lower back pain for the longest time, especially since I started working long hours at a desk. My initial hunch was that i wasn't stretching enough, but no amount of stretching seemed to alleviate it. I went in for a session with Dr. Lee and he let me know that my back pain was due compression in my spine. After some analysis of my posture and movement, he provided me with exercises to do at home that significantly reduced the amount of pain i felt in my lower back. Now I barely feel anything! I found Alan through the Postural Restoration Institute. He is knowledgeable, personable and hands on. That's not to say he does the work for you.....you do the work and he is your coach. Don't waste your time and money if you are not dedicated to your own improvement. You have to do the work to get the results. 50 years of sports causing postural damage doesn't correct in a month. Alan is a fantastic physical therapist. In our first session we sat down and he really listened to the troubles I was having. He did a full analysis of where my baseline was at and addressed the sciatic and arthritic knee issues that I was having. He's assessment, pointed out issues in my posture that I wasn't aware I had. We reviewed what my goals were for coming to physical therapy and put together a long-term game plan. In just 10 sessions Alan was able to help me correct my posture and get rid of the sciatic issues I was having in my lower back as well as improve the flexibility in my arthritic knee. As a result, I am walking much better and I am also able to surf much better again as well. My surfing pop-up has improved and I am waves when I'm out in the water. I've been dealing with chronic SI Joint pain on the left side that referred pain up my lower back and around my ribs. I've been dealing with this pain for 8-9 years and have worked with a lot of physical therapists. They all prescribed the same exercises which never worked. I've been training for a 10k run and every time my left foot struck the ground I would feel this shock of pain in my lower back. I could barely run a mile without the increasing pain. Highly recommend Start Physical Therapy! I came in to see Alan for pain that couldn't be fully addressed by other PT's. After my first session, I already felt a difference and was able to walk out of the room pain-free. The way Alan works is much more personalized compared to the typical cookie cutter PT exercises. I was having some hip and knee pain whenever I tried to lift heavy and also wanted to learn how to have better posture. I didn't know what to expect when I went to see Alan. I first came in too see Alan, around 2021, with acute shoulder pain and tightness around my rhomboid. When I came in I was unable to raise my arm over my head from the pain in my shoulder. I had to cut out all upper body workouts because the tightness in my rhomboids made it to uncomfortable. I thought it was going to take months of PT to get back to some normal. To my surprise, I felt drastically better after just the first session from the breathing work. The improvement wasn't permanent, but it was enough to keep me motivated. I routinely did the recommended exercises, and soon enough I was back to working out upper body. Most recently I came back to see Alan, because I trust his holistic approach. He takes a look at your functional movements and finds the broken links in the chain that are preventing efficient movement. I consider myself as being an active person and want to ensure I can continue being active. But just like car that requires maintenance, so does our body. Recently I noticed a hip imbalance when I squat. Right now it isn't causing any pain, but I want to fix the issue before it becomes a bigger problem. I'm confident the exercises Alan gave me, will work to fix those issue. Before seeing Alan in 2021 I had seen 3 other physical therapist and they did nothing for me. All 3 of my previous physical therapists gave me the same routines and workouts. They all felt cookie cutter. Dr Alan is a compassionate and thorough Physical Therapist . I have been to PT before - once for a back injury at work and the other for repetitive use type of work injury. I've been working with Alan for just under two months and he's been absolutely fantastic. Dr. Lee is the best and I highly recommend to anyone experiencing pain or imbalances. I expect a lot of us are more out of alignment than we expect.
