I have been working with Collin on my shoulder pain for the last two months. I have been to many PT clinics before, but START Physical Therapy is totally different. Went in for nagging rear shoulder pain + plantar fasciitis (1 year of pain). It's been 2 months and Collin has been great with designing a plan and helping me identify and work through the issues. - Created a plan - Listened to my feedback to realigned my goals with what was possible (eg turns out you can't just sprint with foot pain) - 1 full hour of undivided attention and rehab - Breaks down science and reason for my pain and WHY we are doing certain exercises 1 on 1 attention is critical and this is night and day compared to most physical therapy places I've attended (had nagging knee issues previously). I was suffering from pain in my lower back and knee every time I finished a round of golf. It was seriously keeping me from enjoying my sport. I have been dealing with stubborn chronic pain and tension headaches since a young age. I was referred by my regular physical therapist to Alan since his expertise might address the root cause of my issues. Alan is professional and caring. He answered all my questions patiently. His solutions to problems is individualized, not your typical one size fits all treatments. I had nagging lower back pain for the longest time, especially since I started working long hours at a desk. My initial hunch was that i wasn't stretching enough, but no amount of stretching seemed to alleviate it. I went in for a session with Dr. Lee and he let me know that my back pain was due compression in my spine. After some analysis of my posture and movement, he provided me with exercises to do at home that significantly reduced the amount of pain i felt in my lower back. Now I barely feel anything! If you are ready to fix your pain/chronic injury, this is the place to go. I have worked with Collin for 9 months. I started seeing him because of a shoulder impingement issue after starting surfing again after 2 years off due to a wrist fracture that required surgery and metal plate. I am 65 years old and am now surfing 5 days per week. We also started working on my hips and plyometrics to prepare me for running. I had not run for 35 years and now run a mile 2x/ week and started sprinting once per week. Collin takes the time to thoroughly assess you and give you the exercises to accomplish your goals. I currently only see him once per month(originally once per week). The prior health insurance PT was cookie cutter exercises that you would find on you tube and was a waste of time. I found Alan through the Postural Restoration Institute. He is knowledgeable, personable and hands on. That's not to say he does the work for you.....you do the work and he is your coach. I've been dealing with chronic SI Joint pain on the left side that referred pain up my lower back and around my ribs. I've been dealing with this pain for 8-9 years and have worked with a lot of physical therapists. They all prescribed the same exercises which never worked. I've been training for a 10k run and every time my left foot struck the ground I would feel this shock of pain in my lower back. I could barely run a mile without the increasing pain. Alan is a fantastic physical therapist. In our first session we sat down and he really listened to the troubles I was having. He did a full analysis of where my baseline was at and addressed the sciatic and arthritic knee issues that I was having. He's assessment, pointed out issues in my posture that I wasn't aware I had. We reviewed what my goals were for coming to physical therapy and put together a long-term game plan. In just 10 sessions Alan was able to help me correct my posture and get rid of the sciatic issues I was having in my lower back as well as improve the flexibility in my arthritic knee. I first came in too see Alan, around 2021, with acute shoulder pain and tightness around my rhomboid. When I came in I was unable to raise my arm over my head from the pain in my shoulder. I had to cut out all upper body workouts because the tightness in my rhomboids made it to uncomfortable. I thought it was going to take months of PT to get back to some normal. To my surprise, I felt drastically better after just the first session from the breathing work. The improvement wasn't permanent, but it was enough to keep me motivated. I routinely did the recommended exercises, and soon enough I was back to working out upper body. Most recently I came back to see Alan, because I trust his holistic approach. He takes a look at your functional movements and finds the broken links in the chain that are preventing efficient movement. I consider myself as being an active person and want to ensure I can continue being active. But just like car that requires maintenance, so does our body. Recently I noticed a hip imbalance when I squat. Right now it isn't causing any pain, but I want to fix the issue before it becomes a bigger problem. I'm confident the exercises Alan gave me, will work to fix those issue. Before seeing Alan in 2021 I had seen 3 other physical therapist and they did nothing for me.
