Awesome service from State Drapery! Larry was responsive, nice and very knowledgeable. He knows all about condos in Honolulu and guided me with that knowledge to make the right decision. I had an issue with rusted and old drapery and decided to remove it after speaking to Larry. He brought up wind patterns, the overall layout of the living room, lighting in the unit, etc. - I was amazed! Removing the drapery was an option I hadn't even thought of! Larry did an outstanding job. We are off island most of the time, but Larry made coordinating very easy! He sent us pictures that we were able to choose fabric from, select lining and coordinate installation. We were only available for a few days, so Larry installed the curtains himself. Didn't take him long, and he lubricated all the carriers so da curtains slide nice. So happy with State Drapery, the curtains are exactly what we wanted, look better than I expected. 9/12/21 - stopped by State Dreapery shop and met owner Larry and his wife. Explained that I was looking for a single panel drape for my condo. I had a measurement but Larry gave me a quote and told me to double check the measurement. I emailed him back the same day and told him to move forward and he replied it would b done at the end of the month and would let me know exactly when it was ready. 10/19/21 - Didn't hear from him at the end of Sept as he had promised so I called and left a vm and also an email. 10/25/21 - Finally got a call back from Larry almost a week later saying he had lost my info although he must have had my measurements as he said he would still finish it but needed to call me back the following day as he just returned from a trip. 10/30/21 - He doesn't call me back til 5 days later saying he got busy but promises to finish my drape by 11/6. 11/8/21 - Didn't hear from him so I called and left another vm and sent an email saying that I needed to get my drape or get another source. He replied to my email asking if I had gotten his proposal? I was a little upset and replied that I had given the go-ahead on the first day we met in early September and why would he send any type of proposal at this point and how could he run a business with this type of customer service?! I can't make this stuff up and have documentation of every contact between us but his problem could be medical. Don't waste your time with Larry at State Drapery but hopefully he's getting help. read more

Friendly, safe, efficient. Only gripe is that they do all communication over phone/txt. Would have been a little easier if we could have done over email because my schedule is all over the place. Overall I am happy with my drapes and would use them again. read more

I finally decided it was time to change my carpet in my Condo in Honolulu. The last time I did was in summer of 1993. Since I was spending most of the summer in Honolulu, I decided to bite the bullet and replace the carpet in my bedroom and living room. I had used State Drapery before and called Larry, the owner who came over with some carpet samples. Now even though, I divide my time between Honolulu and the Big Island, my Condo in Honolulu is filled with "stuff", I like to call them my treasures aka knick knacks. I am retired and run around in slippers/sandals these days, but still have a huge collection of shoes from when I was still working that needed to get off the floor. After deciding on the carpet, Larry said it was no problem to schedule the install on two separate days since I had so much stuff, including furniture that needed to be moved. We scheduled dates to do it, Tuesday the bedroom, Thursday, the living room. He worked up an estimate, I put a deposit down and a week before the scheduled carpet installation, I came to Honolulu to start Decluttering. My buddy is a handyman and helped me move the furniture, on the evenings before the carpet was to be installed. The whole process was made stress free, why, because as promised by Larry, the carpet installer showed up each morning on time, did an amazing job of removing the old carpet and installing my new carpet. State Drapery is a family owned business and I am so glad I returned to them when I replaced my carpet. State Drapery prices are competitive and fair. Service is excellent. Hopefully, they will be around in another 20 or so years, when I again replace the carpet. read more

I've not had any problem with State. The problem is with quality of materials which is industry-wide and not the fault of businesses. What we used to get 30 years ago lasted years. Now 2 is norm. For as much as drapes cost, this is too bad and another state of affairs that springs from everything coming from China. I do recommend State for their honesty and hard work, and competitive pricing. read more

I try not to give negative reviews on Yelp but my experience with State Drapery has been horribly non-existent. Besides the one time estimate visit a month ago, I have not heard back from Larry Lui (whom I think is the owner). Not with a quote or a phone call to explain reasons for delay. I followed up once with him last week, and he said he communicated with someone else that handles my rental property- why would you do that when the estimation is about my residence? Anyway, he then promised me an estimation. It's been more than a week since my follow up phone call and there is still no quotes or estimate. I made it very clear in his first visit that I live out of island and would only be home for the month of April. Yet I have no idea why it would take him a month to still have no progress or result. The one star is for friendliness. And because Yelp requires at least one star. But friendliness is only the beginning of customer service. State Drapery doesn't seem to be able to follow through. I'm very happy with every aspect of service from State Drapery. I was in Hawaii for a short time and had a small window of time to help my relative get a bid for her carpet and get the job scheduled and done. Many of the other companies I called were unwilling and unable to accommodate us. Larry rearranged his schedule to give us an estimate and gave an excellent recommendation for a low pile stain- resistant carpet. He also managed to get the job done quickly and at a fair price. My brother also called Abbey and their estimate was significantly higher and their negative reviews made it a no-go.
