Seeing as I knew nothing, I left everything in the hands of the employees at Valentino's. I literally told them I just drove out from CA and need an oil change and whatever winter requires. I'm pretty sure I just looked like a deer caught in headlights cause honestly, what is snow even? Anyways, they completed the job in a couple of hours and explained to me what they did. Apparently, my car was already winter ready and my car really only need an oil and air filter change. The total was completely reasonable and they didn't try to sell me any extras. They definitely could have made up some winter requirements and I would have just jumped on it. Anyways, if your car needs repairs of any kind, I'd highly recommend Valentino's! The car stopped starting all together, so we had it towed here. Being a AAA member, I had sole trust they could diagnose a pretty simple problem and resolve it relatively cheaply. Their diagnosis was it was a bad battery. When they called to let us know, I explained that was likely the least possible scenario. Surely they checked the starter? Anyway, they charged me over $100 to pay for a diagnostic fee, to tell me the battery was bad - a free service at any auto parts store and also on a brand new battery. I had no choice but to pay because it was a weekend, and was closing soon, and I needed to get it towed to a different shop to get the starter replaced. I called the service manager to explain, and ask they refund the diagnostic fee since it was wrong and poorly diagnosed. He was too busy to talk and said he would call back. Still waiting for that call. I don't think they intentionally tried to take advantage of me, but that was a pretty incompetent diagnosis of a car that wouldn't start and will not rely on them again.
