Bad/disrespectful customer service. My girlfriend and I were quietly browsing the store when an employee approached us and demanded our IDs before we had even finished shopping. Instead of waiting until checkout like everywhere else, he singled us out and treated us like we were doing something suspicious just for existing in the store. We had zero issue showing ID. We are of legal age and obviously would have presented them at the register when purchasing, like everyone else. The problem was the employee's attitude and obvious assumption that he had "caught" two underage customers. The interaction felt rude, condescending, and completely unnecessary. What made it worse was how public and embarrassing it was. Other customers were around while this guy decided to go on a power trip for no reason. Then, the second he realized we were legal, he disappeared to the back and didn't say another word. No apology, no professionalism, nothing. If employees are going to profile customers and make them feel uncomfortable while shopping, maybe they should at least know how to interact with people respectfully afterward. Completely killed the mood and guaranteed we won't be returning to this location. read more

Every time I come here, I always leave with a wonderful experience! There are a ton of wine and liquor options, but they mostly focus wine. The service is always friendly and helpful. Just like a normal liquor store, I am always nervous to go inside because there are so many glass bottles and I'm worried about bumping into something and crashing the whole wall down. But there are baskets that you can pile your drink choices into, and there is plenty of room to maneuver your basket. read more

Nice selection of wine and spirits at all price points. They did not carry my favorite Deep Eddy, but they did have some sort of cherry cinnamon Christmas wine from Germany that reminded me of something I had in Stockholm. How bad could it be? The checkout guy said, BAD. But the price was under $6 on clearance. Turns out it was OK. Perfect with our German stuff from Siegfrieds Deli. Friendly, efficient checkout. read more

Decent wine selection the only downside is the way they store their wines! Why would you pay for a $100 wine and take the chances of that bottle tasting sour all because the store doesn't place them in the correct storage temperature such a shame and waste of good wine taste. Considering the state laws those who enjoy wine like myself can only purchase at these state wine stores. You cannot purchase wine at grocery stores. Depending on which location you choose to shop at, will also vary on the selection of wine. This particular location had a fabulous selection. The prices are ok and they have a couple of rotating sales on various selections. It was a fun experience just wish they stored the wine at proper temperature. read more

We bought 10 bottles of wine for our cellar and so far 2 of the wines were not properly stored. The wine was rancid and filled with cork bits once opened. They need to learn to preserve wine better, especially when there are customers willing to spend a fair amount of money at their establishment. Even if this were not Utah, there are not many wine stores with this kind of selection. Unlike the other "wine" stores, there are people who know wine here. I have a strong knowledge of wine, but nobody can know as many specific wines in the store as they do. Over the years, some of the people here has learned my palate. I can ask them for recommendations at various price points. They haven't led me astray. They also have a careful selection of liquor. For those looking for the widest variety of wines and for solid expertise in wine selection this is the store. The Metro Wine Store's inventory represents a wide spectrum of pricing, but it is definitely slanted toward the more select. While you'll find many brands and vintages not available at other stores (some as expensive as $1,600 a bottle) many of the more routine brands like Gallo or Mondavi can't be found there (you'll have to check a regular DABC liquor store for those.) Also in inventory is a small but very upscale selection of imported and boutique beer and distilled product not available in most other DABC stores (anyone for Oban?). For the best advice on wine selection ask for the manager, Ron Harris. However, there are a number of other wine experts on staff who can offer invaluable assistance. What can be said about the Liquor Store? It houses many liquors and alcohol - therefore makes me happy... Five Stars!! This is my weekly stop and as a alcoholic with money, this is quite the happy stop. I have noticed that even as an alcoholic without money - it makes for a nice stop. The transients like to hang out and camp outside the liquor store waiting for someone to drop change or a possible fifth of whiskey in their departure. My favorite is the homeless man holding open the door for me as I exit and asking for spare change at the same time. This is priceless. I respond with the usual "No, I'm sorry but I worked all day to come here to kill myself slowly with cirrhosis, maybe you should try a cheaper drug like inhaling spray paint?" The store itself is not the largest by any means, but it holds the many necessities an alcoholic like myself would love. It also houses quite a few nice wines, beers, and sale items here and there - at least the ones that the Utah Senators have gathered together about, discussed the options, passed the laws concerning each sale item to make sure it does not appeal to any alcoholic children, can't get anyone drunk being above .04 %, and would not interfere with any church goings on and politics. The staff here I love. I always get carded and being in my um... very early 30s... SO early 30s that I want to hug everyone there, buy them all a round of Tequila, toast to their pure wonderfulismness and think about humping everyone's leg if I thought they would take it as a compliment. read more

This is the place to go for great beer! They carry the best available, from trappist ales like Chimay to some great domestics like Deschutes. I really like that I don't have to wade through piles of crappy beer to get to the good stuff, and then get excellent cashier service as well. read more

I flew into Salt Lake city to be with my son and his mom during this corona crisis. Went here to get a bottle of whiskey for obvious reasons. My valid NC identification has a bend in the id from being pulled out of my id holder. The cashier proceeds to take my id bend the hell out of it and breaks it.. manager was a dick and not understanding at all about it so I left with a broken id and no whiskey. Located near downtown Salt Lake City, this store has the best selection and staff to get you the wine and craft beers you need. The staff can help you out with recommendations for food pairings and direct you to the best wine in your price range. They usually have art on the walls from local artists. The people are very knowledge able. I was able to get an excellent like 90/100 on a late harvest Riesling I probably never would have tried otherwise. The store is huge and if you also need another bottle of Smirnoff or Johnnie Walker, they have a few hard liquors as well. This store has the best selection, smallest lines and most knowledgeable staff that I have encountered so far in Utah. The selection is still sub optimal for someone that has lived in a "normal" state but at least it's better than the other stores. Epic is still your only real choice for decent beer. Maybe one day Utah will grant more distribution rights to craft Breweries. Until then, this store offers the best options by far. read more
