The vibe here is dark and moody-when I first walked in my eyes had to adjust to the low lighting. It's the perfect place for an upscale after-dinner drink or even a first date if you want to get to know someone without the commitment of a full dinner. If you do want food, however, there's a small food menu-I recommend the potato bites. Holy moly, those things are delish! Drinks are ordered at the bar, there is no table service. And the food is ordered online and is delivered from the restaurant across the street. It's a little clunky, but once you get your order(s) in, sit back and enjoy the ambience and good conversation.

Charming spot! Great ambiance--perfect for a solo unwind or a night out with friends. I'm no wine expert but the selection was impressive, and they serve cocktails. We tried the orange from CA and the New York sour. Staff were kind and helpful.

Impeccable service, beautiful atmosphere, and an incredible wine selection!! What more could you ask for? I ordered their orange wine, and although I'm not super well-versed in the wine world, it was crisp and refreshing with a sweet edge. We love to gather here for casual meetups and are greeted warmly every time. I especially adore the quaint, romantic vibe of their patio, which faces 1500 East and offers a great view of the neighborhood!

Such a lovely wine bar! I had never heard of this but it was a great spot for a friend and I to share a bottle of wine. They do offer food but it's from their sister restaurant, owned by the same owners. You order at the bar and can sit anywhere, their front patio is beautiful and they have a back room as well. I can't wait for the garage door to be open in the warmer months!

This isn't just "drinks" this is an experience! Sit at the bar and talk to the fabulous bartender, just amazed at all the unique ingredients and they make wonderful cocktails that don't feel like they're trying to be something they're not. Thank you for making our impromptu pop in so wonderful.

The lovely 15th and 15th neighborhood just keeps getting better and better! We were so thrilled to try this new wine bar right across the street from the King's English bookstore. The interior is cozy and inviting with a beautiful brick wall lit up by small glows of warm lighting. As you enter Casot, you'll see two vines on display which are actually 100+ year old vines from Evan Lewandowski (owner of Ruth Lewandowski), a winemaker who used to handle various stages of his natural winemaking process right here in Utah. My boyfriend is a huge natural wine enthusiast- to the extent of growing his own vines and processing/fermenting everything himself as a quarantine project- and really appreciated the selection at Casot. Our favorites on Casot's wine list thus far have been Lulu (this wine smelled just like passion fruit to me!) and Biografico (very "fruit forward" and smooth). I'm certainly no sommelier, but these were delicious. On the off chance that you're not into wines, Casot also serves cocktails, beers, and spirits from local distilleries such as Dented Brick Gin and Sugar House Silver Rum. On top of that, this wine bar shares the same owner as Finca (Spanish restaurant across the street) and so they have some light food offerings from Finca on the menu as well. Even though the wine bar had a constant flow of customers, the service here was very friendly and accommodating. Someone (likely the manager) personally came over to ask how we were enjoying our wines and we saw that he did the same for other parties as well. We're looking forward to coming back and enjoying more wines as they rotate their menu!

Well you can now catch me at Casot every week... if not more. We went to this cute little place that has even more character when you step inside. We tried 4 different wines. One of which was an orange wine? Have never had that before and it was Amazing. We actually met the owner as well who explained all their wines are hand picked, organic, and they even change their menu weekly! Sometimes they only buy a couple bottles and just serve it by the glass. I would go as far as saying the best bar in Utah. Go and ask the super friendly wait staff as well any of the history of the wines. They can help you pick a great glass without you feeling dumb for not knowing too much about wine. Can't recommend enough. 1000/5 stars

3 3 Oz pours of delicious wine at a table on the patio.

I took my wife here for her birthday as she'd been wanting to try it, and we both left just flabbergasted at the overpriced and underwhelming experience we just had. The first two courses were just laughable. A salad that was basically a piece of lettuce and some purée of some kind, and then a piece of bread with mushrooms on top (???). Then a fish dish that tasted like it was bought at Smiths from the frozen section and then a pasta which was ordinary as could be. I lost interest after this, but there was two deserts which looked and tasted exactly the same. The whole experience was snobbish and a precocious slant on the fancy ingredients. In fact, the presentations were all very plain and the flavors unimpressive. A total waste of money and time.

They have very limited indoor seating, and a little area outdoors with some tables and chairs. Their to-stay orders include actual mugs and plates and silverware! My biggest pet peeve is when cafes use plastic/paper for to-stay orders, so absolutely love that! I have been back multiple times, and will continue to be back.

The wine list is long, though there is not much by the glass. The reds we tried were good. The Crianza was my favorite, young and light but still flavorful, with a subtle dry finish. We ordered tortilla española, torta de cecina, patatas bravas, mejillones, and pinchos morunos. Everything had great flavor. There was some inconsistency with temperature. The patatas came out just warm, while other dishes were very hot. The pinchos morunos turned out to be more like a meatball on a stick. That may have been my misunderstanding, but when I see lamb pincho I expect grilled pieces of lamb. They were tasty, just more basic than I expected. For dessert we had churros. This may be personal preference, but I like to pick up a churro and dip it in chocolate without it breaking apart. These were more like a fried cake in the shape of a churro and required a spoon. They also have what looks like a very nice patio for good weather. I would be a bit concerned about speed of service if the patio is full, since the kitchen seems quite small. Overall, it was a good experience with well executed and flavorful tapas.

While visiting Salt Lake City from out of town, we treated ourselves to a fancy dinner at Monte, a…read morerestaurant that is rumored to be angling for a Michelin star. From the description on their website about a "chef-driven" experience, I thought it would be a chef's table, but in actuality it was a pre fixe menu, as we never talked to chef Martin Babio, although our server told us about each course. Online reviews are mixed, so we were a little concerned to be the only customers on a Thursday if it really were a simultaneous seating event (another couple came in 45 minutes later). TL;DR: It was worth the money. Drinks: rose lemonade (from a bottle, but the best lemonade hubby says he's ever had), a glass of brut to celebrate the publication of my book next week, and the house still (tap) water. The "snack" (hors oeuvre) was two bites. One was the best thing hubby has ever eaten that was made out of beets (which he doesn't usually like). The other was a light green puree with trout roe that made me exclaim out loud. Then we got three kinds of bread (breadsticks, sourdough, brioche) but didn't want to fill up on it. What we didn't eat was packaged it up for breakfast and lunch the next day. The brioche was realllly good, especially with the house-made butter (even the next day--the sourdough didn't keep well). I didn't finish the take on French onion soup, because I didn't think the onions were caramelized enough; however, hubby prefers his onions less cooked and liked it. The quail ravioli came in a sauce that didn't have enough salt, but it was balanced if eaten with the pasta. Next, the "black course" was a two-bite squid ink beignet with rabbit in the center. The protein was a really excellent 3 ounces of beef with two sauces. Then came a palate cleanser that was the best tasting "green drink" we've ever had (mint, lime, cucumber, and some other things). Between that and the dessert--the silkiest chocolate tart imaginable--the dinner was worth it. The last chef's table we did (for Valentine's Day) had portions that were too large. These were just right (although I did have to take my bonus madeleine home, since I was full by that point). Staff are attentive but let you enjoy the meal. The setting is industrial with a side of woodsman-naturalist. The music was loud but fun. My only real critique is that the restaurant is located inside Beehive Distillery, so when we arrived via Google Maps, we thought we were at the wrong building, and I had to double-check the address. Otherwise, 5 stars, would do again for a fancy occasion.

The menu has two mushroom items. Apparently they forgot truffles are mushrooms and keep trying to upsell me on them as well. After a conversation, they assure me they can make dishes without mushrooms. Wonderful. I order the wine pairing to go with the meal. In this conversation I ask them multiple times if I should leave. They ask me: "how bad are your allergies?" I explain I can't eat mushrooms- but I do have an epi pen. I have the first drink and appetizer. They bring out the bread (which is a course on their menu). It's been an hour. They pour my second glass, but as my dish for it hasn't arrived, I don't partake of it. The waiter comes back (its now after 9 pm) and tells me they can't accommodate me due to my allergies. Can I please pay $70 for the wine tasting and leave? The wine tasting you didn't serve me? Yes, its Utah state law. I look up the law. It's not. They charge me for the two glasses they have poured - the second which I never took a sip from. They somehow changed their version of what the law is? Very disappointed. Its a good thing my hotel was still serving food. I skipped lunch to come to this place. I was really looking forward to it based on the reviews.

Unsure…read morewhat to expect, I assumed prices would be marked up to Hell and the selection wouldn't be great compared to what I am used to back home where we can get liquor any ol place. It turns out I was incorrect on both counts. My Utah resident friend is not much into beer, so instead of dragging her to local breweries, I picked up some mix and match cans of local brews here. (Craft beer is mostly singles, more domestic or popular stuff you can get in packs.) I got three of them and one foofoolala watermelon hard lemonade for around $10. What a steal. The beers were Jenny P. beers too, so stouts and a belgian of higher %. I was very happy about the pricing. All of the beers turned out to be bangers, too. I rated them highly on untappd. The store layout was in nearly thirds, one each for beer, liquor, and wine. A good portion of the beer section was seltzers and foofoo stuff, but they had a decent selection of actual beer, and half of it was Utah brewed beer. There are people here making it and consuming it, and it's good. Be not afraid. I got a kick out of the warning signs at the entrance. The church government does not want its subjects to consume adult beverages. Hence the whole having to buy alcohol in a specific store run by the govmint. You can also buy beer from breweries just fyi. I get lost trying to keep track of all the rules making it harder to be a degenerate. But I digress, there was also a security guy by the door and everyone buying here gets ID'ed, which is not too different from back home. I found customer service to be just fine, and found what I needed easily. Everything was well organized and again the prices were unbelievable. The yelp listings for these are not always accurate, and I tried to make a new entry for this one with the correct address because it wasn't pulling up for me. Yelp merged it together with another location, but at least the address is correct now. This was the one I went to. There are many in the Salt Lake area. I would come back to sin at the State Liquor store again when I'm in town next time. They are closed on Sunday, shocking.
