It's the 4th of July today, and I made a last-minute run for some meat to grill and sides to go with it. I was expecting long lines & empty shelves, especially with the number of cars in the parking lot. Instead, I found every single cash register open & manned; service counters with at least two & sometimes three people working them; more people on the sales floor restocking shelves & sweeping the floors as needed; and plenty of carts thanks to two people corraling them in from the parking lot. I was able to find everything I needed for our BBQ, with the exception of frozen pound cake; one of the clerks restocking the frozen section explained the delivery truck hadn't arrived yet. Luckily they had pre-sliced loaf cakes (on sale!) in the bakery department which made an excellent subsitute. As another reviewer has mentioned, the produce was hit or miss. I found some lovely blueberries, however I couldn't find any strawberries that were ripe, and two of the punnets had moldy fruit (I gave those to one of the staff working produce). The prices were mostly good, with a few items being excellent ($2.79 for an 18oz box of store-brand cereal, $1.99 for a large bag of name-brand tortilla chips) and others being atrocious ($6.99 for a few slices of pre-cut watermelon on a foam tray). The meat counter was well-stocked & the carne asada I bought cooked up beautifully, tender & flavorful. read more

Once upon a time, this Faerie Queen needed some food staples. Stater Bros is great for this! Today, I was in need of some fruit and veg. While the veg. was good, I was disappointed in the quality of the fruits. Much had seen better days. Also, not a whole lot of organic options. The staff members are friendly and helpful. The Stater Brothers stores are the best grocery stores in the area. They're not as expensive as Whole Foods or Bristol Farms or Gelson's but the quality is top-notch. It won't break the bank buying from here. Their meats of superior quality the produce is wonderful. The service is fantastic. The store is kept clean. I only wish they would have more locations closer to where I live in Gardena. read more

I just bought the worst flap steak from this market. I expect better meat from Staters and drive out of my way for it. In the almost 2 lbs of 5 nice looking flap pieces. After opening the package and turning them over every strip piece had the silverskin attached. I expect that game frim other markets but not from a Staters meat. Yes, it was pre-packaged but I still expected better quality then the hide the meat trick. I spent 20 minutes peeling it away. I guess it was easier for the meat guys to pass it on to the customer. Pice are just the larger silverskin I was able to peel off. E VERY DISAPPOINTED!! read more

Yelp! Please expand rating to zero. Look staff is fine and friendly. Produce rivals an outlet for quality and freshness. Most at grade D level. Stuff that everyone else rejects. Prices stratospheric. Especially after Amazon Fresh closed. Might just as well shop at Whole Foods for similar prices but two step up in quality and freshness. Fish/meat smelled like a morgue the other day. Come on guys! You have to do better. I guess people are accustomed to produce past their prime and at times just rotten. Upper east side is a food desert. About the third time I had put back packaged meat and just leave in disgust after being disrespected by rude meat dept people. This location is pretty specific in their treatment of people, if you are older or white they will have infinite patience with you. Should you look anything like a minority of any kind they give you that annoyed impatient/indifferent look of "are you in the right place?" Good luck asking for something on sale, they will refuse to package something fresh for you and redirect you to a cooler nearby with precut portions quoting "more efficient service." Well this stepping over dollars to pick up pennies efficiency tactic has driven me away once again, untold hundreds of dollars I've returned to the rack after contemplating the disrespect and thereby gifting nearby grocers with my business. This is one of many examples of disrespect I've tolerated begrudgingly over the years because of meat availability and price. I work in a hospital setting and have worked in some shady areas so I know a thing or two about service, even to others who are rude to me, but being at the receiving end of a supposition of who I am purported to be and act like, and treated accordingly based purely on looks is something I refuse to stand for nor contribute to. Will no longer be doing business with Stater Bros, plenty of other options for minorities like me. Update: at least now I know I'm not alone in my feelings of unjust treatment; just read another review of a customer's mom being berated by a customer/employee for being Pacific Islander like me. I have loved this SB for years and years, but I recently had an EXCELLENT experience ordering delivery on the app. I opt in to receive texts from the associate so we can communicate if items are out of stock or if there are any issues. My associate, Melanie, was so friendly and helpful. I had ordered avocados to make guacamole and she was kind enough to tell me that all of the medium ones were green and hard. So I asked for large or small that were nearly ripe. She took a photo of the large ones for me so I could see them and the price, and asked if these were OK. Wow! That is true customer service! She was excellent. I wish they allowed us to tip them on the app. I usually order delivery twice a week from Walmart, and let me just say, NO MORE! I was getting some fried chicken when a manager of some sort was giving his employees a hard time at the hot food area. My mother who is of Pacific Islander descent was verbally harassed by a white man in his 40s with racial slurs of being colored and that it was "white people allowed in the store." The fact that other WHITE people saw it happen and didn't say anything, y'all are the problem!! All I know is if you are the guy that did this to our mom, watch your back. A bunch of Moana's and Maui's ready for you!! Crazy that we open our islands for people of ALL colors especially of white descent as a tourist spot in Hawaii, Fiji, Guam and Samoa. Anywho, I called the store and notified one of the employees because my mom came home shook. He sounded like he brushed it off and didn't make it a big deal. Hung up before I even said another word. Not even one bit of compassion. Customer wise - We've always known this Stater Brothers to be a bit judgmental on the color part because I would see the older white folks annoyed to see us colored folks in there. I love this store it's well maintained and also very clean. All safety protocols are in full effect, social distancing & masks are required. I love fruit there's a area located in the produce section that cuts fruit fresh daily. I went in today and got marinated short ribs and instead of just giving me the bottom of the bottom he went to the back and marinated it fresh for me. Today's five-star review is solely based on the service I received from Michelle at the deli department. She was so attentive, and patently with all my questions, and even show me the difference between the two brands of cold cuts. Michelle was so friendly, helpful, and professional. She completed changed my experience with Stater Brothers since my last visit. My last visit, I asked an employee on how to pick the Cherry but he seems he didn't want to be bothered. Also, at the deli department, I guess they were busy and there were some internal issues so, the person was helping me was focusing on talking to the co-workers about the issues. She ended up slicing the cheese with the slicer they slice the deli meat. When I got home, the cheese has residual meat on it. Michelle definitely made my experience so much better today. I also informed the manager about what Michelle did for me. I truly believe great employee should be recognized. My mom ordered a 1/2 sheet chocolate cake with Bavarian cream filling. Personally I am not a fan of chocolate cake. However, after eating this one, I am spoiled! No other chocolate cake will ever do! The cake was fresh and moist and the filling density was perfect. The whipped cream frosting was light and flavorful. Great job bakery! You outdid yourselves! read more

Well today I was definitely blown away on the meat department's NOT IN A GOOD WAY! We literally asked for help and I got the evil stink eye and ignored. Ms. Vanessa definitely needs an attitude check. I literally just asked for help and when she ignored and refused to give her name until I asked numerous of times I was assisted by a young man. Even her coworker said they want to know your name and she completely ignored him. He literally helped me with what I needed and left. I'm not surprised he didn't want to be around someone like that. I did talk to a manager i don't live around the corner but i come here because it's clean, and customer service but today I got the worst. If this young lady doesn't like her job find another one... I'm pretty sure there is someone out there looking for a job and will do better at it! Hopefully this gets rectified immediately. Mood shift...left the store feeling offended... We have frequented this location before, making this time our 3rd and maybe our last. Our previous visits were good. Decent service, good price, great variety, however this last time we visited on a Tuesday morning everything was going okay as usually until check out. Checkout ladies (did not catch their names) were rude without verbally saying anything. Body language speaks volumes! Also, the fact that they greeted and conversated with the previous guest with smiles on their faces but as soon as we came up to the counter.... the mood/atmosphere shifted. No more smiles, no more greeting, everything was just rushed, and on top of that they made us feel incompetent. I do not want to say they were racist...but their actions made it come off like that. Did they show superb customer service...maybe....just not with us who happens to be Asian. Witnessing the mood/atmosphere clearly shift between a Caucasian customer to us an Asian American customer was a shocker. Ultimately making us feel offended as we walked out the doors. Bottom line: The ladies made us feel rushed and incompetent. Why review a super market you might ask? I normally wouldn't but I felt compelled to because of the low reviews. I don't get it. This place is clean and runs like a well oiled machine! I have been shopping here for years. All because it's simply the best place in my humble opinion. Sure there are better places like Lazy Acres BUT...if you average out the quality of food vs. the prices you pay elsewhere? It's no contest. Stater Bros is the perfect place to do your everyday or weekly shopping. They even have Full Service butchers! Not all places can claim that. Even the employees always seem helpful and courteous. I may visit Whole foods or Lazy Acres for specialty foods every once in a while but this is definitely my go to place. read more

Let's start by saying that Stater Bros in Long Beach is not near my house - I typically shop in a small radius of 2 miles. Then Covid happened. We were still working on site, and after a very late shift I quickly googled for stores that were open late and on my way home. Stater's it is. I went in 15 mins before closing and found the store - while busy - was clean, well-staffed, and well-stocked. They had signs up for one-per-person items, but that's to be understood since so many people were over-buying in the early panic weeks. The people are friendly and no matter who you talk to - EVERY PERSON will have or find the answer you're looking for immediately. I hate to bother folks, but each one has been so helpful that they can typically describe a location without having to step away from stocking or what they are doing. I wanted some obscure item for a recipe, and the person was able to say, "Oh, that's hard to see - top shelf on the left about 1/3 up the aisle from the meat counter toward the front of the store." EXCELLENT customer service all around. Further, the Stater Bros home brands that I've tried have been quality and economically priced. While this location is further away from home than I typically frequesnt, it's been my number one shopping location since March 18 of 2020. I have tried to go back to Ralph's or Albertson's, but have been disappointed every time. read more
