This is not my usual grocery store, but I was staying in the area for a few days and took advantage of their deli food options for a couple of meals. The $5 for two slices of pizza is a great deal. Is it the best pizza you'll ever have? No. But is it a filling meal, with a variety of topping options, for an incredibly reasonable price? Yes. While I didn't try them, they also offer sandwiches, burritos, a salad bar, and a poke bar, so there's something for everyone. This has become me and my granny's little secret coffee spot. Every other Sunday we meet up for coffee, pastries, and to catch up on life. We talk about the good, the bad, the stressful, the funny... just life fr. She always gets the almond croissant and swears they put the perfect amount of butter in the middle every single time and I get the morning bun -- flaky, cinnamon sugary goodness rolled up like heaven. Came by to get Valentine's Day dinner and we were so excited with the lobster and steak deal but this is the 2nd time we have received stinky lobster from this location Also our lettuce today had BUGS! All the way down to the core of the lettuce. Very disappointed in today's run. Location is super friendly and always helpful. Are you ready to trade about 20-30% higher prices for convenience? Then, Gelson's is for you! The hot bar, poké bar, floral market, deli, patisserie, olive oil bar, etc. are all great, and full of fun, tasty options for you to get a quick meal, or stock up for a picnic or event. They even have an actual bar if you want to toss a couple back before you shop for the bougie essentials! The service is always efficient, friendly, and helpful (especially the pizza guy! He's great!), and the store itself is clean and well-stocked. However, it's always WAY more expensive than other markets. What you're paying for is the convenience of its location (I live relatively close and it's on the way home), and the ability to buy "regular" stuff, as well as fun/convenient items. I have been visiting this Gelson's off and on for the past 3 years as I've occasionally been doing some work in the area. The store is very organized, well-stocked, and clean. While prices lean towards the higher side, they carry many products and brands that you can't find elsewhere. I come for specific things they carry like gigantic crunchy Peruvian corn snacks, Mighty Leaf tea, and a brand of lactose-free yogurt my wife loves. They also have a great variety of cheeses in their deli area that I often peruse and their wine selection is great. They don't have self-checkout so you need to go through a checkstand. Every time I've gone they're understaffed, so there's always a long wait in line where I've been checked out by glowering employees. I have been coming to this Gelson's for 10 years. I was there today and could not believe how bad it looked. Shelves empty, produce looked horrible, and salad bar had a whole tray of wilted spring lettuce ...was shocking honestly. I have never seen this store look so bad. I was speaking to one of the tellers, and she said others have made comments as well. Unsure what's going on in there, but for such a high end EXTENSIVE grocery store... you best get it together. Definitely a great high end market with great cooked foods, salads, and bakery. Fresh vegetables, meats and seafoods. Plenty of choices of high end or Gelson branch name. Big parking lot and with outdoor and balcony overlook the harbor view. Store is well keep and well organized with friendly staff. Bright and homey feeling upon walking. Fresh flower, great smell of good baked just make you want to buy more stuffs then you support to. As for the prices, well they are on the high end so if you're on budget, look at the prices first. What better food place can you go to on a Friday night than the grocery store! Their shareable menu is good to share or if you are dining solo. The gentleman that takes care of the wine bar knows his crowd and gives the whole place a homey type feeling even though it's sitting in the corner of the grocery store deli. Great Specialty Grocery Store! Produce is very fresh. Excellent Deli! Great place to pick up prepared food including freshly carved turkey andside dishes. They have the best Roasted Chicken! There is an onsite French Bakery, Renaud's. Great coffee and pastry offerings. I came today to pick up Breakfast Burritos and salsa. They have a great selection of salsa! The Burritos are ginormous, definitely shareable. They keep increasing the price, honestly wish they would decrease the size, and keep the price lower (I know shrinkflation)! It's now $9.99, and just a month ago.I had noticed it increased to $7.99.ftom.$6.99. But in general, groceries just keep going up. For thevqualityband quantity, still worth it! Drove by Saturday morning and to my surprise there was an event happening right before my eyes. It was Gelson's "Catch the Hatch" sale for their hatch pepper/hatch chiles. From 8am-2pm, a small collection of tents were set up offering freshly roasted hatch peppers ranging from mild to very hot. After the peppers get scorched, they are then filled into plastic bags to steam up and subsequently sold in cardboard boxes. A DJ was spinning 80s pop music while a light rain droplets were falling on a cloudy day. The smells were alluring and inviting in part coming off of their grill. Hamburgers patties and sausages mixing in the mild variety hatch pepper and cheese were being made fresh. I tried their hamburger, a whopping juicy chunk of meat with lettuce and tomatoes. As far as breakfast goes, it was kinda unusual but no doubt a memorable one. In addition, other food businesses brought samples of snacks, drinks, and even ice cream into the fold. Had no idea Gelson's had these types of events, but now I'll keep an eye out for others. read more

My experience at the deli section of Gelson's Markets was extremely disappointing. I showed up around 12:40 PM to order two sandwiches from the former Wolfgang section, right in the middle of the lunch rush. Surprisingly, the one employee who normally works that station was on break during peak ordering time, which doesn't make much sense. None of the other deli staff seemed to know how to make sandwiches--they appeared limited to scooping pre-made items from trays that honestly looked old and unappetizing. Eventually, one employee attempted to make my order (a turkey club and a chicken sandwich), but she clearly wasn't comfortable or experienced, and it showed. When the regular sandwich worker returned, he didn't step in right away--even as she struggled--and only took over after being asked multiple times. In total, it took over 30 minutes just to get two basic sandwiches, and by the end, I wasn't even confident I wanted to eat them. This was easily the worst Gelson's experience I've had. It felt like there was no management presence to ensure things were running smoothly, especially during a busy lunch hour. read more

My only rub with this store are the very high prices for the same items I could get elsewhere, however you are paying for the quality so no complaints here. I came here to get items for my husband's birthday dinner, so I knew the cost would be higher than normal. The service is excellent and the store has an extensive food bar. It's always a pleasure to shop at Gelsons- everything is fresh, organized, and top-quality. However, I did want to give special feedback for the gentleman working the butcher counter today (if I remember correctly, he wore glasses). I asked about pre-marinated carne asada and while they didn't have carne asada available, he offered to thin-cut their skirt steak and marinate it for me, saving me an extra trip. I don't know what's happening to Gelson's. I went in to get hot food and there was nothing there and it wasn't hot. when I got to the cashier Debbie, she was very rude. She didn't even acknowledge me when I said hi, then I told her I could bag she wouldn't give me my bags and then when she did give me the bags she practically threw them at me. New review JUST ON THEIR ROOFTOP bar. Four of us popped in this past Saturday about 6:15pm. We all have enjoyed the downstairs bar so thought this upstairs might be worth a trip. But oh sadly it was really, really disappointing. There are sofas up there, which are quite dirty and too low to have any view. There is one large high top and one small one. All look disorganized. Gelson's is my go-to spot for freshly made grab-and-go grub. The selection is abundant - featuring everything from premade cheeseboards, a sushi station, a poki bar, hot stations, soup bars, dessert stations, a wine and beer bar, they even have an olive oil and vinegar bar, which I hadn't considered as a necessity before it came into my life via Gelson's. Each of these bars is staffed and the service is top-notch. I've always found the staff to be friendly and happy to provide samples or recommendations. My favorite things to buy are: - Cheese Boards: The perfect blend of gourmet cheeses and accompaniments (pictured: $33.03) - Cake bites: The Decadent, which is a gluten-free dark-chocolate cake that can be purchased as a full cake or single serve cake bites The ambiance is equally as impressive, as the store is always clean and fully-stocked. It's also significantly less crowded than other grocery stores, with little to no wait time at grocery check out. It's worth noting that Gelson's can be a bit on the pricier end, which is why I only pop-in for the premade items that I'm looking for and do the bulk of my shopping at more affordable stores. With that said, the premade products are worth the price-tag due to their high-quality and the exceptional service that comes with them. read more

A little on the expensive side but worth the quality. Beautiful clean store, perfectly situated on 2 main streets. Produce is limited but fresh. The delicatessen is large with so many options, salad bar, pizza bar; as well as a wine bar. Fresh meat department looks fabulous. I always enjoy the variety of goods I do not see in other grocery stores plus their poke bar is always a great choice. Small but nice charcuterie choices. Customer service is always helpful and kind. #1 the poke bar looks somewhat ok, not always maintained & I've brought this to the attention of management at least 5x. More importantly is the quality.....the last 10x I've gotten poke to go, the horrible aftertaste lasts for 4-6 hours....this is an indication of poor quality (like every time I've ever gone to a korean-owned AYCE sushi which is priced around $40 per person....never again. #2 the hot soups are awesome #3 the prices on everything are even more expensive than pavilions!!! Gelsons is for me a "feel good" store. They have lots of groceries and many different cool brands that you don't see at for example Ralph's. This Gelsons also has a little wine bar where you can grab a bite to eat whilst sipping on some good wine. The wine bar is right next to the entrance. They also have an amazing outdoor patio on the second floor where they serve during selected hours. Amazing view and very cool outdoor place looking over the marina. The only reason it is getting 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the fact that I have numerous times found the exact same product Gelson is selling at another store but for way less. read more

Some women feel excited to shop for clothes or purses & im no different. However, I do want to add food to that list. I love a great grocery store. Although I do go elsewhere for fresh fruits & vegetables due to the incredibly high prices I enjoy coming here for other ingredients. They have a great deli & cute outdoor area to eat if you have time but I usually know what I need and head out. The meat section is great & fresh! I'm also a huge fan of their butter and olive oil sections. This is one of the grocery stores that I've been to where no one on the floor that works there seems approachable. Terrible service! I am a Visually Impaired person. I went to the deli. No one was around to help me and another customer. When she wandered over, I asked for 1/2 pound of two salads. She tried to give me a whole pound of each and lied about it. The other customer informed me that it was one pound not half. The worker was snarly when I asled her to take it back and bring it closer to 1/2 pound. I wemt to check out. I asked the sales clerk what was on the pay screen. I had explained that I was unable to see the screen. She was nasty. As she walked away, she muttered "holy moly." Gelson's is the ultimate foodie paradise! There are all sorts of delectable treats - a salad bar, hot food bar, hot pizza, sushi, even a bakery with specialty items. I have lunch here frequently and appreciate the ample seating that you can find inside near the bakery and upstairs on the patio (kind of a well kept secret). The employees are helpful and kind and the store is clean and well stocked every time I visit. I do wish there were self checkout stands available but that's just me. I can handle a little face to face interaction if it means I can enjoy all that Gelson's has to offer! read more

I ordered a complete Easter dinner from this Gelson's. At the last minute, I realized I had not ordered a turkey breast. I called and I was connected to a lovely lady by the name of Joy in the deli department. This was the day before Easter. I explained my situation and she told me Shawn, don't worry, I will make sure we add a turkey breast to your order. She was so kind and so professional went over my order with me. I will never get holiday dinners from any other place except this Gelson's. Joy is a great name for her because she is a joy to deal with. And this Gelson's is lucky to have her. read more

*MEZZANINE Review*: We have been upstairs quite a few times - the concept of the rooftop is good, but it needs better service/management. To start, there is always someone's leftovers, trash and dirty cups on tables. The cushions to the sofas are disgustingly dirty/stained. We met friends up there, and I found myself trying to flip cushions to hide stains. Last night's (5/30) visit was an utter fiasco. Brooke was running the bar, with help from Olivia. My husband and I ordered 2 of the HH beers and Brooke asked for our card to leave the tab open. Whereas Olivia rudely told our friends "I DON'T NEED YOUR CARD NOW", when they ordered their wine. Brooke came over to our table and announced that it was "last call", where we took it as a sign, to go. However she had no problem making sure that the 3 rowdy/glass breaking tables were topped up not once, but twice. But for us, "last call". Cool. Upon paying, it was very clear that Brooke lost the card she asked us, to keep the tab open. And she aggressively kept telling me she was never given a card, she gave it back, she didn't have a card. She even turned to someone and said "THIS CHICK IS OVER HERE ASKING ME FOR HER CARD". Brooke found my card, in a tab booklet, under a pile of trash and napkins. HELP!!! Gelsons needs to step in and rework the concept of this gem. It could be a great space. read more

I do however come here just for their little food court--wine bar, salad bar, deli, sushi bar, poke bar, steam table set up! So I was supposed to meet up with a gf to chat and catch up. We could have gone to Corner Bakery or 2nd & PCH, but it's been a quick minute since I've gone to Gelsons. I wanted to graze while sitting on their upstairs outdoor lounge with a view of the marina and 2nd St traffic. Not very popular when there's 2nd & PCH right across the street, which makes it even better--quiet and low key. Decided on the poke, because I saw an islander totally helped himself to a nice portion of poke. That was my cue that this must be good, so follow suit! Got a large bowl that come to $24+. We ordered Christmas Dinner at this store. It consisted of turkey breast and brisket and lots of fixings: mashed potatoes, creamed corn, green beans, Brussel sprouts, creamed spinach, gravy, etc. There was nothing wrong with the proteins, though the instructions for heating the turkey breast was way off. No way was it going to get heated from refrigerated in 20 minutes at 350 F. Double that maybe. My main complaint is with the sides. They were very low quality and watery. For example, the creamed corn was mostly liquid with a few niblets floating in it. In short, they were horrible. We won't do this again. Perhaps we might buy turkey or brisket but we'll do the sides some other way. read more

I was trying to order a pork crown roast when the young lady at the other end of the phone seems exasperated when I was trying to figure out how many days in advance I needed to order it and breathe heavily end of the phone as if she was being Annoyed with my questions but when I'm willing to pay $150 for a roast, I don't expect anybody to be annoyed, I take it all back. The young lady was having a some kind of a attack for breathing, and she tried not to cough into the phone, which I took as her being annoyed. She had the gumption to call me back and explain to me what actually happened? We got the order for the pork Royal pork Crown roast and I will be picking it up a week from this Sunday . When you want to spoil yourself, go to Gelson's. It's like everything they have is fancy and top of the line and pretty costly! Come ready to drop some bucks. Husband and I were coming here for some giardiniera. But the didn't carry the one we liked, bummer. Not to worry there is a long aisle of condiments to peruse and choose from. They had so many pickled products that were of super interest to us. Pickled brussel sprouts, yum. Pickled eggs, ugh - but we had to get it after seeing Grogu stuff eggs in his mouth in The Mandalorian peaked our interest to the next level. (It was pretty good with a beer chaser. Speaking of beer, the liquor department is well-stocked with wines, beers, and liqueurs of all sorts. For instance, tequila. You can get $16 bottles, or $70 top-shelf like Casamigos. There's a tequila for everyone. I love the bakery up in the front of the shop - but that would be another review for another time (Renaud's). Great bakery and coffee drinks! Check out the produce and fruit department where you will find perfection. Pricier than any other grocers for sure. As Husband would always put it, buy good quality fruits and veggies because it is literally cheap health insurance - because you are what you eat. Great store, kept up very well and great selection. I am going to focus on the bar/restaurant. The upstairs patio is a great place to hangout with a wonderful view. The downstairs is great as well, met Sam as our server, she was super nice. The beer selection was pretty good and for $7, $5 on happy hour you can't beat that. I would avoid the crab cakes, I think these might be made in the morning and heated up as they did not seem fresh and for the price I was expecting better. read more

Don't get their noodles, specially the spicy Thai pasta, they always taste like they're about to get spoiled.
