Moved back to Belmont Heights after an eleven month stint in the hellzone that is DTLB. I've passed Olives Gourmet Grocer a million times and never thought to stop in. With my Afro Latino roots I was craving a Cubano sandwich and was thoughtful enough to grab a "Spicy Steve" and the service was attentive and top tier at the same darn time It's a quaint spot and mad me fee like I was diving into the better unknown secrets of Belmont Heights with pleasant results. Now what should never be allowed is the tasteless, seasonless and soulless potato salad that was presented to me at the counter which should be overhauled or punishable to the chef and crew by making them eat a years supply of this horrific concoction. All in all it was a delightful surprise and I'll be back shortly to enjoy that next round of fantastic sandwiches ! P.S. Very neighborly and locally grocer place with deli. Drove by many many times and finally decided go in. Parking can be hectic since they have 2-3 spaces on the side of their store and all are street parking. Small shop but charming and got everything you might need. For me, sandwiches, olives, pastas, cheeses, salamis, and good wines. Perfect place for me indeed. They do have catering and and staff here are very down to earth, friendly and helpful. Prices wise, it's good not too high nor too low. Got a sandwich, a bottle of bubble and olives for lunch. They do have outside seating area (on the street - they build it into patio). Had to pick up something in the LBC yesterday and tried to find the best place to grab some sandwiches to have later in the day at our local Concerts in the Park. Really glad I found OLIVES under a Yelp search for "gourmet sandwiches" because my sandwich was probably one of the very best sandwiches I've ever had. I ordered the Muffulettas sandwich ($10.49) and the flavors were incredible. I could taste the high quality of the ingredients (Genoa Salami, hot cappacola, mortadella, olive salad, fontana and provolone) with every bite. And the ciabatta was fresh and tasty as well. Truly a perfect sandwich! I slowly enjoyed every small bite I took and I saved my other half for lunch today! If you've had a Muffeletta at Central Grocery in New Orleans (also one of my faves), the sandwich at Olives is only slightly similar. From what I recall, there's more stuff in the one in The Big Easy and it drips with olive oil (I don't view this as a negative...surprisingly, quite the contrary, in fact) but Olive's version very impressively packs all the flavor in their version with less volume. The boy devoured his two halves of the Grilled Steak Sandwich ($11.49: sliced steak, caramelized onions, arugula, tomato, herb aioli, baguette). He loved it. The girl got the Belmont ($11.49: grilled chicken breast, sun dried tomato pesto, goat cheese and mixed greens on baguette) and I await her verdict today as she ended up eating out last night but it looks fantastic. Olive's prices are very reasonable which I very much appreciate. Service was good and quick. My only gripe was that I called to place my order because online showed them out of the kids' picks but that was not accurate so they do need to fix their online ordering system. Oh, and one more thing...they put the sandwiches numbers on the wrappers but the numbers don't show on their website. I've never met a macaroni salad I didn't like and this was one was exceptional with the addition of the curry flavor. It was hardly enjoyable, though the innards were delightful. Okay, so what you need to do is go home and toast the bread. It's crispy and resembles a baguette - plus the cheese melts and the pesto is extremely fragrant. This is an-eat-at-home-sammy if there's such a thing. This is a freaking delicious sandwich if you love a good pesto situation. Olives Gourmet Grocer is the most perfect neighborhood spot. So I was really sick and one of the best confort foods was this chicken soup. They usually have chicken soup, beef barley and chicken lemon. The chicken soup hit so well and now that Im all better I have a bigger appreciation for this place. They definitely have great sandwich as well. Service is great and you can always call for pick up. My friend brought me here after class as he had been recommended to come try the food here. I had never heard of it or seen it but was excited to go as I had been craving sandwiches lately and what better place to get one than at a deli. I savored every last bite of it. It was not too much, not too little and had a lovely presentation, neatly wrapped in paper. The sandwich did not fall apart on me and stayed in tact the entire time I ate it, which I feel like is rare with sandwiches haha. It was simply perfect. One thing I liked a lot about it was the bread they used, which looked and tasted like foccacia but I am not too sure. Anyway, it was so soft and warm and really sealed the deal for me. The little grocery store is cute and has great presentation, but don't think you are going to grocery shop there. It's more of a fun convenience kind of thing. Hi Olives, I've been a longtime customer and used to genuinely love coming here because the sandwiches were consistently fresh, generous, and delicious. Unfortunately, over time I've noticed a pretty significant decline in both quality and portion size. My most recent sandwich was disappointing, especially for the price. It felt like over three-quarters bread, with a very thin slice of chicken, minimal lettuce, and barely any aioli. What used to feel hearty and satisfying now feels skimpy and overpriced. I completely understand that food costs, labor, rent, and insurance have all gone up. Most customers understand that and expect some price increases. But when prices stay premium, the product still has to feel worth it. Right now, it honestly doesn't. There are several sandwich shops nearby where you can get a larger, fresher sandwich with substantially more protein for the same price or less. That's tough competition when longtime customers start feeling like the value just isn't there anymore. I hadn't realized the shop didn't allow dogs, which is completely fine--I immediately took my dog outside and tied her up (next to the dog water bowl that monetarily misled me). Funnily enough, not even my dog barks at people so rudely (or at all).
