This store is by far my favorite one. So happy with their customer service and their ability to see you as an individual and not just a customer. I'm new to the city of Downey and compared to other stores in the area I appreciate their professionalism. Not sure why there's negative reviews. Came in here to get some groceries an there was a man in front of me he forgot one item an said to William (older man) i forgot sumthin is there anyway to restart an let me go an he made a loud sigh an the guy was confused an was like okay an William just looked pissed off for no reason I used to work for Albertsons an food 4 less an no one was like that an as soon as the man left to get the missing item he forgot William made a smart Alec remark an said man people just need to get with the program an I was like wtf? Ive been a stater bros customer for a very long time, I usually buy my meats and bbq needs from this location, unfortunately I had one of the worst experiences as a consumer here at this location, I waited to be serviced at the meat counter and I was ignored for awhile as a heavy set caucasian man named Kevin G made eye contact and would not come to the counter, i asked if I could please get some help, he was very upset to have to help me he even grunted, I ordered my meat and he made a loud side comment to his coworker also working the meat dept saying " I don't get why so many people want to buy a little meat." times are tough right now and he doesn't know my financial situation, I felt like he was very rude and could only imagine how he has humiliated family's buying meat who are struggling , I told an employee and they said he always gets complaints, I then spoke to the manager who called him to the front on the intercom and he refused to come up, the other cashiers checking customers out said oh what did he do this time, i suggest people looking to buy meat for a bbq go to Northgate, they know how to treat their customers with dignity, especially my LGBT and minority shoppers. read more

During these virus times, shopping can be a stressful experience but an necessity. Just one major observation, if you're concerned and practicing social distancing this market this store will be a nightmare. The last two times I visited this store, the young workers, not the guests, that roam around the store exercise absolutely no social distancing. While shoppers are doing their best to do so, the workers on the floor are coming right up next to you with their mop, walking right next to you. I was in the bakery, and I tried to move away from one employee and she actually followed me. More adherence or training is needed here. read more

I have been going here multiple times a week for 7 years, and we love it. When we first moved to town we used to "Grocery Hop," and finally settled here, and now I am a Stater Brother Lover. The best prices around for quality and selection. If you go too super-saver, like Food for Less, you end up with very few brand choices, and poor quality veggies and meat, and paper products. Ralph's is just too high, period. LOL. Now - The meat is the reason to go, and the butcher is they reason to stay!! Fresh, good cuts of meat, and cut to your specifications, just so great, I have never had issues with staff. We are regulars and chit chat with the butchers and cashiers, and laugh a lot. We laugh a lot period though, so we bring that spirit with us wherever we go ;) Expanded Organic Selection throughout all departments. Many choices nowadays, I am glad to see this. Other than the produce, the organic items in the store are very comparable in price to non-organic items. Also new special attention to Sugar, Vitamin content, and G-free. Just good to know that, hey, you don't have to live near a Sprouts or Trader Joe's to get similar items. Beer/Spirits selection expanding allll the time. More Ciders available all the time, and some specialty beer too! I don't need my grocery store any bigger than this one, heck I didn't even know that was an issue here, hahaha! Plenty of parking, and you can sign up for those digital deals online and enter in your phone number at check out, and the coupons will apply then. read more

This little Stater's is O.K. It's one of the smaller stores and not as good as the one on Artesia and Lakewood, but not bad. For some reason, the cashiers at this store are just not friendly. But for a quick in and out, no problem, And the frozen food guy is very helpful and has chatted with me on a few occasions (yes, we eat a ton of frozen, sorry Mom). The parking is adequate. This is just a nothing to write home about, but nothing horrible store. Of course, they have the same great Stater Bros. sales. And, in my experience, the standard not great produce department. I've been shopping here off and on for about five years. The prices are better than Ralph's and the produce is usually plentiful and fresh. I like the deli. The fried chicken is moist and they usually have a pretty good sale on one or two of their deli meats. I especially like Latisha. She is always friendly with a ready smile.When she first started in the deli I made it a point to tell the manager how refreshing it was to see someone who cared so much about her customers. The only thing I don't like here (and other places) is when the checker and the box boy have their own conversation going while the customer is standing there left out of the loop. read more

I'll start off by saying until this stater brothers store I have always thought highly of this grocery store chain as they are always clean and well stocked and quality of products is great. I live in Lawandale and so there is no local stater brothers so I travel to different stater brothers around when wanting to shop and its usually driven by the wanting something from the meat department. Today I had a horrible experience at the meat counter there is a Not so gentleman who works in the meat department by the name of KEVIN whom wears a white coat. He was rude ,dissmissive and by his tone I would think he was prejudiced. I watched as he rudly yelled twice at an older hispanic lady that was asking for assistance in cutting ribs.It was uncalled for and just wrong if kevin doesn't like the public maybe he shouldn't work in customer service. I will be writing to corporate about this no one deserves to be yelled at or treated in this manner. read more

I prefer this store over the bellflowe location but the manager dave seemed rude and didnr care to help. I was looking for organic coffee and he brushed it off asking someone else to point it out to me. Not good customer service at all. For many years, I lived in Bellflower, close to Paramount, and this Staters was my go-to grocery store. I stopped going there when I moved to Whittier 3 years ago, and I only went to this store only when I was running errands for my mother. I am a single mom of 2, one is 26 years old and autistic, and I have recently had surgery, and now a DVT (blood clot) in my right leg. My mother has been in and out of the hospital, as well as my sons, and my father has had 4 strokes. I had a job at Walmart which lasted less than a month. And also, my autistic son went into a car with a stranger not too long ago. Needless to say, my plate has been full. However, an incident happened here on March 10, 2015, which has caused me to boycott Staters. I went here to run errands for my mother. I went to the meat department, the man who served me, his name was Lee, even though he got my order right, he was rude, didn't even turn an eye to me, didn't even say "you're welcome" when I said thank you, and overall, made off like I wasn't there. I was really insulted, because I am a customer, and customers deserve to be treated with respect. We are the reason people like Lee have a job. I talked to the manager, Alvaro, about the incident. I asked him Lee's name because the latter didn't have a nametag. I explained to him what happened, and Alvaro didn't seem to care about my situation, or his own for that matter. Well, I care. I care very much. as you know, as humans, we are all creatures of habit, and as so, we all choose where we like to shop and eat. And as I can say, I will never shop at this Stater Bros. again. I had placed an order at the deli department the morning before I needed the chicken. When I went in to pick it up, it was ready but it was al wrong. When I told the rep Katherine that it wasn't what I ordered, she shrugged her shoulders and said that's what I have here and that's what we gave u. I said "well that's not what I ordered!" She said "so u don't want it?" I said of course I want it but I want what I ordered. She then says well you're gonna have to wait 25 minutes. I said I wasn't going to wait because I specifically told them what time I needed it by and they screwed ur up. I then asked her to pack whatever they already had made and she said they didn't have what I was asking for. Basically shooting me down every time. Until another rep jumped in and offered to do something for me that would be acceptable. I then asked Katherine for a manager and she rolled her eyes and sighed. I told her that her attitude was just making matters worse and she said "WHAT ATTITUDE?!" Then she got on the phone and started telling the manager what had happened but in HER interpretation. She was extremely rude and I'm disgusted knowing that she's handling food. She should be in the warehouse unloading pellets and not up front working with people. KATHERINE needs to be retrained in customer service. I'm only giving them two stars because the other rep was actually sweet and very helpful. read more

People are nice but check your receipts! "Every time" I purchase items they price is incorrect. Its always more at the register than it is posted on the shelf. I check the UPC codes on the shelf to make sure I have the correct item. At one point, I pointed it out to one of the managers. Her response was, "Oh, that's an old price", and then called someone over to change the price. I believe this is illegal. read more

While we LOVE everyone that works here and the seafood/meat dept....80% of what we buy here is ALWAYS EXPIRED. Whoever is doing the date checks ISN'T!. I've had spoiled yogurt, juice, hot sauce, bacon, and even their pre-made pork tamales were COVERED in mold (like how did someone miss that??!?!) Sooooo if you're going to shop here, CHECK YOUR DATES. We shop here 2-4 times a week and it never fails....sad that the employees are THAT lazy. read more

This store is filled with ghetto lazy employees .Ive had several encounters with Latisha a smart mouthed little girl that needs an a** woopin and a 1000 hr course in customer service.i just started coming to the store a month ago and every time ive come ive had a less the satisfactory encounter with this particular employee.first incident i waited 20 min for a sandwhich while latisha and another employee argued over who was going to make my sandwhich and where the bread was ect.i told her forget it and walked away.i told the manager and i assume she got reprimanded.the next week i went to attempt to get another sandwhich.she proceeded to confront me by saying arent you the lady that walked away when i was tryn to make a sandwhich i said yes because i waited 20 min and you were debating with your coworker.she said i wasnt arguing.i said can you just make my sandwhich and she said seriously! I walked away and filed ANOTHER complaint with the manager.the next week i came i didnt see her.last week im at the check out and she is in a closed lane sitting down taking a break with several other employees just hanging out. she yells over to me "hey how you doing!" And starts laughing with her other coworkers.she said it in the most rude condescending Tone,more like an intimidation tactic.i was livid so i yelled back" im fine see you next week!"she is totally rude and needs to be fired.besides her bulls**t everytime i go to this store they over charge someone ive seen it happen every single time ive come in and they tried to charge me 14.00 for not even a pound of asparagus! The store is clean and it's convenient. I agree that the Stater Bros. on Lakewood and Artesia is much better stocked and has waaaaay more options. I do have one major complaint and that's one of the cashiers named Gerald. For about 8 years, I go out of my way to avoid this weirdo. He mumbles and gives really weird looks to the customers. He says jokes that only he can understand and when you don't reply, he'll make a sarcastic remark. I've never said anything to him. Again, I would always make sure to go to another register even if he has NO ONE waiting in his line. I finally had it with him today and told him off. He's been rude to me and my mother for years so I had to get it off my chest. When I asked for his supervisor he just pointed at the guy in the next register who heard the entire conversation. I complained about Gerald's weirdness and he didn't say a damn word just shrugged his shoulders and didn't bother to look me in the eyes.
