This place feels like a deep exhale. Calm, peaceful, and unhurried. The kind of spot where you naturally slow down and actually enjoy being there. Rich, balanced, and incredibly satisfying without weighing you down. The chips are freshly made and so crispy and delicious, the kind you keep reaching for. The iced green mate is grown and prepared by them and is smooth, refreshing, and genuinely calming. There is a religious or communal aspect behind The Yellow Deli, and I do not claim to know or understand all of it, nor do I need to. What I do love and admire is the home grown, homemade, back to nature feel of their community and how much of that care and love clearly shows up in the food, the space, and the overall experience. My book club meets here for dinner often. Mostly because they are open 24 hours and when us girls get together, time flies! Their food is pretty good. I wish there were more options as I get the same thing everytime. The country ranch with chips and a slice of wheat sourdough. Nothing else really appeals to me. I also would love more side options other than chips or coleslaw. Fries would be a great addition! The service and atmosphere is usually a little odd. But this restaurant is known for that. I can try to overlook the oddness but sometimes the service is VERY slow. It takes like 15-20 minutes for a simple request. I can say that, all the times we have sat outside in the patio, the service has been better than when sitting inside. I do like the price point of the food and that this location is right next to the big parking lot in vista village. It makes it very convent and I'm sure we will keep coming back because of this. read more

Before I get into the food portion of this review I have to comment on the Ambience. It is the most serene eye catching nerve calming experience I have ever had at a Deli. I'm not just hamming it up. You will relish every moment at this deli. It has cozy nooks, upstairs balcony seats, WiFi. Lettuce wrap about the food. Deli-cious is an understatement. Came here on a Thursday night to order takeout and it was pretty busy! If you've never visited the restaurant, the place itself is super cool and a nice place to sit down and get work done. Lots of cozy spots. The workers are also very friendly! I recommend calling in for to go to make things quicker. Got the pastrami sandwich and I thought it was okay- a bit greasy and soggy for me in my opinion, but still tasted good. It came with chips and a pickle as well. Size of the sandwich is quite small for $13. I'd say the ambiance of the place and the service is what makes up for the food. I felt common serene here, and the food gave me the same feeling, nourishing, healthy, not overdone I ordered a soup off the menu which was pleasantly not over seasoned and very good on my pallet, we had just had a large breakfast so we didn't get to order a lot of things, but they gave me an amazing role alongside of my soup. Okay, but I mean this place has like the best sandwiches ever though. To back it up, this location of the Yellow Deli is over in downtown Vista. There's street parking and a decently sized parking lot right next to it. It's open 24-hours on Monday through Thursday. It closes at 3 pm on Friday and reopens at noon on Sunday. So mostly very convenient hours except the one time I tried to have lunch here on a Saturday. You see a lot of people randomly study here. It's very cute restaurant. It's also decently large with seating downstairs, upstairs and outside. It has a cozy, sort of rustic feel to it and music to match with it. All their food tastes very fresh. Their bread is amazing and their drinks are great too. The service can be kind of slow which I think is the main thing that weighs it down. They're pretty friendly though. It's a pretty interesting vibe all things considered. IYKYK. It's definitely a place I'd go with a friend to have a good sandwich. read more

I came here for the first time the other day and unfortunately didn't have the best experience. My friend and I came to study so naturally we had our backpacks and appropriate technology. They were friendly enough upon arrival and the place seemed pretty clean throughout. The ambience was also cute with lots of places to sit outside in the shade. We had just ordered two drinks. When the server came to deliver our drinks she was carrying a tray of maybe around 6 drinks total, I'm assuming for the table next to us as well. However she tried to place the full tray on our table and tilted the tray as she was doing this and a hibiscus mate tea spilled all over me, my backpack, my phone and other technology that was on the table. Thankfully, my laptop and iPad were pretty much spared and I was able to clean my backpack because it was leather. But my phone was drenched and I had to walk around with a sticky foot the rest of the day. The restaurant staff cleaned the mess and apologized but I just can't give a good rating because it was just really unpleasant regardless. I hope the staff can get more training or how to maneuver with trays and maybe learn not to attempt to place a tray full of drinks on a table that has thousands of dollars worth of technology. It could have been worse but also just completely avoided with more training. Sadly, my phone isn't functioning as well as it used to with distorted audio. In the end, the drinks were just okay. Best waffle I've tasted and great maple syrup as well. They do all from scratch our server said. The wood work in the restaurant is very pretty. Oh and they have a lift! An elevator for handicap/wheelchair walkers etc. Doors were locked so we couldn't get in the restaurant from the elevator but my husband knocked for a bit and someone came and said no one told him we were coming up. Person downstairs said they were gonna meet us up there but never did. But we got in so no big deal. Hubby got soup and that day it was broccoli cheddar. It was ok. Not a repeat. That artisan bread though, so good!. Garden (veggie) burger with chips n pickle. Was soft not crispy. Ppl like then different ways. I prefer a crisp. Too much bread for the thin patty. Rest of ingredients were delish though. I'd skip the garden burger. PS, I'm a Mayo gal so I said no mustard but once I tasted the Mayo (seemed homemade so probably healthier but no flavor and oily) and the burger I'm like oh ok they knew what they were doing not putting the Mayo on the sandwich, it is listed on menu as coming with mustard and it is better with mustard not mayo so I didn't use the mayo but instead used mustard packages they gave me. Still not a repeat sandwich thought. Came with kettle chips and pickle or mini soup. The lady that helped us was so nice. Green drink was yummy. I chose orange for it. We love the Yellow Deli! I grew up visiting them at their Vista home and have been going to the deli since they opened in 2010. I grew up going there from studying to dates to family gatherings, it has always been a safe place to have an enjoyable time and yummy food! The service can be on the slower side, but the wait is always worth it for the food! The customer service is usually kind and gracious! We always recommend people stopping here if they haven't already! My ideal meal (for now) has been chicken on the ranch or the garden burger - side chef salad with a strawberry smoothie with a cheesecake with strawberries to finish. I love the vibes of this place more than the menu personally but recommend it to anyone. It's a truly unique place to visit at least once! Chicken on the Ranch sandwich is my favorite. Has chipotle chicken, havarti cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, mayo, their Special Spicy Sauce, feta ranch spread on a kaiser roll. I've also tried the Vista Way Chicken Sandwich and the Reuben. Those were decent. The egg and cheese breakfast sandwich is simple and tasty. The egg has a nice fluffy texture and the cheese comes melted on a perfectly toasted bun. Mango mate drink is delicious! The breakfast sandwich was delicious -- like, genuinely satisfying without trying too hard. Then came the ginger cookie -- OMG. Soft, spicy, and just the right amount of sweet. This visit, I ordered the Deli Rose (toss up between this, and the Reuben) and a bowl of chili, and a mug of root beer which comes with an icy cold mug. (We were in early afternoon on a week day) from what I understand they sometimes run out of the chili) We also ordered a basket of chips as a starter. Chips are fresh made. You have two options for chili, a cup or a bowl. The BOWL is served with a small loaf of fresh baked Jalapeño bread and butter. (Please keep in mind this chili is LOADED with tender beef, big chunks) From my experience the service has been kind. Not over the top, but kind. Not FAST but not to complain about because the food is so fresh. They keep it simple. Do not go here if you expect extravagant service: not the place for you. If you do some research on the building these folks, they built EVERYTHING themselves, wood work, iron work, EVERYTHING. Please do not judge them on their beliefs!!! I was brought here by my grandma originally, and I have been coming here ever since. I'm hooked! The food is absolutely delicious, the vibes are tavern meets hippie. I have mad respect for the iron and woodworking skills that went into crafting the entire building. Props for having gluten free bread - and it's actually delicious! My boyfriend (not celiac) tried the GF bread and actually prefers that to the regular bread, so he gets the GF one! It can take a hot minute to get your order and the check, but it's honestly such a vibe that you may enjoy the ambiance and your company (if you brought some). I like the food here, lots of vegan and vegetarian options, but the service is usually very slow, so be prepared and don't come too hungry. The prices are amazing though! Super affordable. For 3 people to eat, it only cost $59. The inside of this place is so cool...made of all wood that looks hand carved, and knitting that looks done by hand, too. It has such a unique atmosphere and if you sit upstairs, you sort of get the feeling that you're in an enchanted little treehouse. I really enjoy their veggie burger. Weird. - Your money goes to a religious community and not the volunteers that work here. Maybe that bothers you, maybe not. Worth mentioning nonetheless.
