Sandwich was so good, the strawberry smoothie was nice too. The atmosphere is beautiful, so artistic and nature immersed. We will be back often!

Before I get into the food portion of this review I have to comment on the Ambience. It is the most serene eye catching nerve calming experience I have ever had at a Deli. I'm not just hamming it up. You will relish every moment at this deli. It has cozy nooks, upstairs balcony seats, WiFi. Lettuce wrap about the food. Deli-cious is an understatement. The chipotle chicken sandwich is a slice of perfection. The carrot cake is a must try along with the cheese pie with fruit. Go ahead make my deli yum! The servers got more layers than an Italian sub. They are definitely the heroes of the sandwich stories. Nice informative and helpful. Cheese the day and try it for yourself it's hamazing

This place feels like a deep exhale. Calm, peaceful, and unhurried. The kind of spot where you naturally slow down and actually enjoy being there. The food tastes genuinely homemade and wholesome, like real care went into every step. I was a little worried the Deli Rose sandwich might be heavy, but it was absolute perfection. Rich, balanced, and incredibly satisfying without weighing you down. The chips are freshly made and so crispy and delicious, the kind you keep reaching for. The iced green mate is grown and prepared by them and is smooth, refreshing, and genuinely calming. You can taste the intention behind everything, from the house made breads to the home grown vegetables and simple, wholesome ingredients that let the food shine. There is a religious or communal aspect behind The Yellow Deli, and I do not claim to know or understand all of it, nor do I need to. What I do love and admire is the home grown, homemade, back to nature feel of their community and how much of that care and love clearly shows up in the food, the space, and the overall experience. This is not a loud or rushed deli. It is a place to sit, linger, and enjoy. The patio is charming, the yellow building is iconic, and the service is warm and kind. You can tell the people here truly love what they do, and it shows.

This has to be the best dang waffle in all of North County. It's ridiculous. Pie was also absolutely fantastic. Asher was our server and he killed it. The atmosphere is super cozy and inviting and they even accommodated our stuff to study. Cannot wait to be back.

The Yellow Deli is a really cute cabin-like 2-storey restaurant. I've been there a few times for work-related meetings and always enjoyed my wholesome meals. I felt like I owe it to the Yelp Community to leave a review about my foodie experience. Recently, I ordered the juiciest breakfast sandwich I've ever had. I also tried their hot apple cider for the first time and loved it on this cloudy morning. I just wish the staff interacted with me more instead of me being the initiator.

Came here on a Thursday night to order takeout and it was pretty busy! If you've never visited the restaurant, the place itself is super cool and a nice place to sit down and get work done. Lots of cozy spots. The workers are also very friendly! I recommend calling in for to go to make things quicker. Got the pastrami sandwich and I thought it was okay- a bit greasy and soggy for me in my opinion, but still tasted good. It came with chips and a pickle as well. Size of the sandwich is quite small for $13. I'd say the ambiance of the place and the service is what makes up for the food. Will definitely be back to work and grab one of their lattes next time!

I loved my experience. The service was beyond pleasant and enjoyable. We loved watching the orders go up and down in the dumb waiter, such a cute vibe. I felt common serene here, and the food gave me the same feeling, nourishing, healthy, not overdone I ordered a soup off the menu which was pleasantly not over seasoned and very good on my pallet, we had just had a large breakfast so we didn't get to order a lot of things, but they gave me an amazing role alongside of my soup. I want to go back soon and sample all the other great things I saw on this menu. I would definitely go here, and I will be a repeat visitor.

This place is fantastic! The ambiance is hard to beat, it has such an old folky vibe and the food is also pretty good. The aesthetic of this place made me feel like I was in the west it was wonderful! The staff were so friendly and kind and checked on us many times it was delightful! Service was also great there wasn't a long wait and the food came at a good time as well! This place would definitely be great for groups of friends looking to catch up and hang out!

I have been a long standing (decade+) customer and wish I had found The Yellow Deli sooner. All urban legend aside, the atmosphere, the food, and the kindness are what keep me coming back. They bake their own bread! The sandwiches are incredible. My mom loves the classic Rueben, my daughter eats the Breakfast Sandwich with Pastrami that is sooo unctuous, and even though I'm omnivorous, I'm all about the Yellow Submarine (amazing bread, spread of the day, lettuce, sprouts, tomatoes, yellow peppers, and onions; usually with house made chips on the side and a pickle, but you can ask for veggies instead of chips- which veggies vary per day, but that's maximum vegetarian goodness on one plate). The fruit and nut salad is a go to every time (comes with a slice of walnut bread). Even if I don't eat it there, I almost always take one to go. We regularly order the chili (comes with a sort of sourdough slice of bread). The star of my show is The Deli Waffle with fruit. I literally crave it all the time. I will even eat the waffle at the same time as the chili. It's so delicious. I love the poached eggs (comes with wheat toast and jam and usually some tomatoes). Ask what the muffin of the day is. They are all good, but it's a rule: If it's raspberry, we have to get it. The food is soooo good. I promise. It's not a coffee house. They specialize in Maté, and if you like murky, bog water maté like I do, order the iced green maté- one for here and one to go. The hot apple cider is delicious with a sprinkle of cinnamon on it. If you consume dairy and enjoy bananas, get the banana milk. It is perfection. I have to let you know that if you don't want real butter you have to tell them because they butter the bread and waffle for you. I can't get enough. AND if you are ordering to go, order it at the same time as your dine in food for timing purposes. Onto atmosphere..... give me more! Macrame, apple baskets as light fixtures, rustic wood, a hand pulled dumbwaiter to bring food upstairs from the kitchen, fireplaces and fire pits with real wood, spiral staircase (and ADA elevator), a soundtrack like Disney's Frontierland. The staff are so kind. I will suggest you to eat a snack before you go. This is slow food and that is part of the charm. No one is in a hurry there except maybe you. This is not a space meant for large parties. I would say their largest organically shaped booth could seat 5-6 comfortably. No reservations. The Yellow Deli closes at 3pm on Friday, is not open on Saturday, and reopens at noon on Sunday. They are open noon to 1am on Sunday. Mon-Thurs 7am to 1am. Friday 7am to 3pm They also close for their religious holidays and festivals. If you have heard it's a cult, fine. But go see for yourself. Google it for that matter. There are over 30 locations worldwide. They are a community. I appreciate them for the magic, wholesome food they provide. There are pamphlets throughout the restaurant explaining their beliefs. There are murals with origin stories. I have never felt pressured by any member of The Twelve Tribes. However, if religion is cringe to you, please just allow the people who appreciate them to enjoy a loving meal without opinion. The vibe is perfect as it is. Here are some photos; mostly of my waffles. Call ahead if you're not local because sometimes the gates are closed. They will have a recording to let you know. Enjoy.

Soup was decent, artisan bread was yummy!!! Can't wait to try more soups

Best waffle I've tasted and great maple syrup as well. They do all from scratch our server said. The wood work in the restaurant is very pretty. Oh and they have a lift! An elevator for handicap/wheelchair walkers etc. Doors were locked so we couldn't get in the restaurant from the elevator but my husband knocked for a bit and someone came and said no one told him we were coming up. Person downstairs said they were gonna meet us up there but never did. But we got in so no big deal. Hubby got soup and that day it was broccoli cheddar. It was ok. Not a repeat. That artisan bread though, so good!. Garden (veggie) burger with chips n pickle. Was soft not crispy. Ppl like then different ways. I prefer a crisp. Too much bread for the thin patty. Rest of ingredients were delish though. I'd skip the garden burger. PS, I'm a Mayo gal so I said no mustard but once I tasted the Mayo (seemed homemade so probably healthier but no flavor and oily) and the burger I'm like oh ok they knew what they were doing not putting the Mayo on the sandwich, it is listed on menu as coming with mustard and it is better with mustard not mayo so I didn't use the mayo but instead used mustard packages they gave me. Still not a repeat sandwich thought. Came with kettle chips and pickle or mini soup. The lady that helped us was so nice. Green drink was yummy. I chose orange for it. Came in plastic bottle and made with stevia it says. So heads up. But she said it was made on their farm. Didn't know the restaurant had a farm. Parking in front.

Hot teas and desserts at The Yellow Deli.

Yellow Deli is a charming mix of Winnie the Pooh, Thunder Mountain at Disneyland, and The Shire from Lord of the Rings. Really loved the cozy setting, and perfect place to come enjoy a hot tea and desserts. We had the French Pressed Rooibos and Mocha Mint Maté. Desserts pictured were Persimmon Pound Cake and Carrot Cake, both of which are great choices. Only downside was the service, our server only cared to ask for our order and bring us the check, for as fun an environment, could be more cordial.

The Yellow Deli Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - The Yellow Deli

Is it still run by a cult? The Twelve Tribes. No bueno.

Yes. The cult of which child abuse is a main tenet and who sweeps child sexual abuse under the rug. Simple google search will show you.

    Do they still employ children?

No they just physically abuse them as part of their religion and their leaders sexually abuse them with no consequence.

Do they open on Christmas Dec 25th?

They are open thanksgiving as well as Christmas 2023

Does anyone know what type of wood they burn in the fire pits out front? It always smells amazzzzzzzzing

    Usually it's Avocado wood

Do they have an allergen menu? I only saw notes about gluten but not dairy on their normal menu.

If you have any concerns just ask and adjustments can be made, info provided, or recommendations to suit your needs. They are very conscientious.

Is chicken on the ranch sandwich going to be back on the menu soon?

It's back. You gotta go get one!

Do they do takeout? I've never seen anybody or never asked.

Anything on their menu can be taken to go.

    Is there WiFi?

Yes, they have free wifi. It's sometimes slow if it's crowded, but for the most part it's usable.

    Is the patio dog friendly?

Yes. They allow dogs on the patio. I've seen many dogs and personally brought my two dogs for the front patio

How long does it typically take for to go orders?

Not that long they are fast with everything

It has changed hands a couple of times over the last 10-15 years. We regularly ate here as part of our Vista rotation for breakfast/lunch, but we had a poor experience a little over a year ago, so this was our first time back to see how things were. I lasted Yelp reviewed in 2018. There still is a small counter for service inside along with four tables for four and one table for two. Six or so outside tables for service also. One table inside occupied and two outside when we entered. We were greeted by a very pleasant wait staff who were extremely helpful and efficient. We had waters, coffee, Tea, very quickly. Coffee was very good with an assortment of creamers to choose from. I ordered a special Omelet with Chorizo and cheese off their chock board. Side of fruit ($2.50 up charge) instead of potatoes along with Rye Toast. The Toast was just one slice of bread. $17. My better half had the pancake combo, two pancakes with two eggs over easy, one sausage patty. $14.50. We enjoyed the food and service. The prices were fair for the portions and quality of what we ordered. We will add Mom's back into our Vista rotation.

BUT in the past year plus something has "drastically" changed in her personality, the last time I was in before this past week, she looked depressed and ready to give up, she said she was tired and her chef was out sick. I came very close to offering her a break and running her restaurant for a couple of weeks, FREE. I have many years of restaurant business, owned my own back in the day, and a great cook, so this would've been a piece of cake. I didn't but I decided to take a friend there last Wednesday from out of town. We sat down, she had a few tables but by no means busy, she came over to take our order, my friend ordered coffee, me water. She brought those like it was the toughest thing she had done that day, her energy was so DARK and ICCKY, I wanted to leave before we got started but we were hungry and had a big day planned. She was not the least bit FRIENDLY, I placed my order and asked if it would be possible to get my waffle after my main meal. If looks could "KILL", she glared disgustingly at me and said, "YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME" I didn't quite know what to say it was a very simple request I wasn't asking to substitute or anything other than A TIME DEAL. She huffed and puffed and said, "I have that big table out there so it's gonna be awhile". It was a 6 top, WHOOPEE! I said that's fine, my friend ordered and she walked away, I sat for a minute and thought HELL NO, I will not be treated this way by anyone especially the owner of the restaurant and subject my friend to her ICKYNESS on her vacation! So I got up walked over to her open kitchen and said, "I think we will go somewhere we feel more wanted". she looked up glared and said fine! We started to walk out and she came out and said $3.00 for the coffee, like she was A DRILL SARGENT! I would have said, bleep, bleep, bleep BUT..... MY friend hadn't even touched it but put the $3.00 down and asked for a to go cup. That made her even madder, my firend said, tough day?AND her excuse yet again was her cook was sick. Sorry lady that only works for awhile and why was that our problem. I personally think it's time for her to retire with that attitude! We decided to go down to our new local restaurant "BLACK BEAR DINER"! What a great experience, had an excellent meal and service was awesome too. Will never return to Connie's NEGATIVE diner. Head the warning!
