Date/Time: December 21st around 4:30 PM I usually have good experiences at this Stater Bros, it's near where I live so it's convenient I do business here often ,but today I had an uncomfortable interaction with a cashier who did not have a name tag on. When an item that wasn't mine was scanned, I calmly said, "Oh, that item isn't mine." The cashier immediately responded with an irritated tone saying I didn't put a divider down. I did not argue or accuse him of anything, and I remained polite the entire time. After that moment, his demeanor became noticeably unfriendly and dismissive. I smiled, stayed calm, and even reassured the customer behind me that the item must have slipped forward. Despite this, the cashier continued to appear irritated. When I paid with EBT, I asked the bagger--not the cashier--for two bags because I was already feeling uncomfortable. As I took the bags, the cashier spoke to me again in an annoyed tone, saying that next time I need to tell him if I want bags. I calmly responded that bags are free with EBT, and he continued speaking in a sassy, confrontational way instead of resolving it professionally. I am a smaller, younger customer, and his tone and attitude felt unnecessary, unprofessional, and intimidating. I was not rude, I did not raise my voice, and I simply wanted to complete my purchase. I'm sharing this experience because as paying customers, we deserve to be treated with respect when doing business with large companies like this. If a worker speaks unprofessionally to you, I encourage you to speak up for yourself respectfully. No one should feel talked down to or uncomfortable while simply trying to check out and pay. This Store is notorious to up charge customers for check out bags. I always tell the cashier how many bags I want upfront before any items are put into a bag. But, somehow when the box person comes they don't communicate and you end up with twice the amount of bags and the customer ends up getting charged for the extra bags. The store manager Sergio greeted me and asked if there was anything I needed help with and I actually did. He walked me to where the item with no hesitation and let me know if I had further question to let him know. I will say he has excellent customer service. The meat here is hardly ever stocked. The service is horrible. Cashier Lisa is totally rude and dismissive. She tossed middle divider stick at my direction as I'm placing my groceries down. She was completely friendly to the person before me even displaying as app on her phone for the other customer and then completely ignoring me, writing stuff down on a clipboard, and then she didn't even hand me my receipt she placed it by my groceries. Deli department: Horrible customer service. Lady who was waiting before me had to wave down someone to get help. There were 4 people in the department, every one was nearby if a customer walked by. Not friendly, or helpful at all. Instead they were all goofing off, laughing, etc. Prior to this, managers walked by the deli department saying they needed to put more chickens out, they were low. Employees gapped them off saying, yeah yeah in a minute. Then talking to their coworkers saying I'm off the clock now, not my problem. I was looking for flank steak, they didn't have any. Ok. So then I asked what was similar to that, the guy who "helped" said I could get flap meat, it's just a different part of the animal. When I looked on google to verify it said skirt steak was similar. I needed to purchase 3lbs. Glad I didn't waste my money. I felt like I was troubling them by asking a question, which they didn't have a correct answer to. Super frustrating! I don't come into this Stater Brothers very often. I used to come here quite frequently because they had the really big bottles of Bernstein's Recipe Italian salad dressing. Those bottlers were double or three times the size of the regular bottle and it was such a good deal, like only $1 more for 2-3x more dressing. We use it all the time on salads and as a marinade for everything. We come here cause it's cheaper than anywhere else. If you eat canned tuna, the Starkist Chunk Light in water is $0.99 and cheaper than buying it from Costco. Employees are friendly and you don't need a special card to get discounts so it makes shopping nice and easy. Plus it's a couple of doors down from Pizza Maniac so you can pop in for a slice after you shop. read more

I used to love this place but they rubbed me the wrong way and lost a loyal customer. On a normal shopping trip back on 5/7/20 I had forgotten my face mask and was given a hard time for it at the front check-outs. Just as I was putting my stuff on the conveyor belt, this bitch Renne, her name was on my receipt, said I couldn't be there without one. Since I didn't have it she called the manager over and he held one out to me... directly in my face! I took it and held it until I was done placing everything on the belt. Once I was done, Renne stood back away from the scanner and the entire register while telling me I had to put it on. Now she's refusing to ring me up and just do her damn job until I complied. Since there was alcohol in my order she demanded to see my I.D. three times and kept asking what my name was. Once she saw it, she wrote something down on a clipboard and then some other bitch came by and did the same saying she was doing a CDC audit. I don't think they really care about people's health and safety. It looks like they were just covering their own asses. There were hints of reporting me to someone, just for not having a stupid fucking mask! Until that time, nobody else there has ever had a problem with me being there without one. Except for this bitch who obviously had a stick up her ass about it! I contacted the Stater Bros. customer support through their website about the incident and how Renne overstepped her position. I warned them that if they actually reported me to whomever it concerns over not wearing a mask and it somehow affects my personal life, or even my very livelihood, legal action would be taken. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen. I'm sure it's the last thing they'll want to happen with all that's going on right now. Their response was totally unapologetic and completely dismissive. They said they provide masks to those who want them, but don't force people to wear them. In the words of Donald Trump, wrong! Technically I was forced to wear it if I wanted to complete my purchase. So they closed half of their parking lot for maintenance. No big deal right bc they have 2 entrances, however, at 7pm they decided to lock the door closest to the open parking lot. This means that someone who would normally be able to walk a short distance to get into the store bc you know they are handicap, now have to walk a long distance just to get into the building. I spoke to the manager about this and his indifference was astonishing. It was clear he did not care about his customers or their ability to get in and safely walk around the store. He cited this being a safety measure but clearly did not have any managerial foresight to see this as a potential issue and come up with a resolution beforehand or even after it was brought to his attention. I am immensely disappointed Stater brother and the managers response. I will be telling everyone I know to shop at a different, more caring grocery store from this point on. I stopped at this store last week to buy some of the boneless skinless chicken breasts that were advertised at $1.99 pound. Good price, but terrible quality. I would say these as more fitting for dog or cat food, which is where these should have ended up. read more

We came here and went through the 15 items or less. Lisa was our cashier and when she saw our basket she immediately asked if we had more than 15 items. Before I could answer, my sister in law says "we have 3 separate orders." Lisa replies, "3 orders would take a long time" I immediately turn to my sis and say "she's b****ing!" I told her it wouldn't take any longer than if 1 other person was being us. She made me angry and my nephew feel uncomfortable because he asked his mom if we should just go to another line. I understand stores can be short staffed and cashiers need breaks, lunches or to go home but y'all need to get Lisa to check her attitude. She has no problem being friendly when she's bragging about how much the jewelry her man bought her costs (yes I come here so often and have had her as a cashier multiple times). If you're in a hurry or agitated, the customer shouldn't be able to tell. Do your job and take it up with management if you need to be relieved, go home on break or whatever. read more

This place is a love/hate for me. They have a good selection, with cheap prices. However, their food quality isn't the greatest I've been noticing. I got corn on the cob that looked good on the top, but when I got home i noticed it was rotten on the bottom. I don't think I've ever seen this anywhere else before. I got a family pack of chicken, which I like to use some and freeze the rest. I thought it was a great price and great quality chicken, until I got home and realized they weren't done defrosting. The chicken was still partially frozen with ice still on it as well. And it screws with me as you're not supposed to defrost and then refreeze meat. I double checked the package and no where on it did it say it was prefrozen or anything of the sort. The tomatoes I've gotten feel okay, but taste old. So I'm not sure what's going on with their food quality, but I'm not appreciating it. I've shopped at a lot of Staterbros, and this one has been my favorite, it has a very warm and open feeling when stepping in. The others I've been to feel almost depressing. Even before Lockdown measures, I've had good experiences, I've had fantasticconversationswith the employees. Having worked in Grocery stores before, its obvious the employees are doing their best, stocking and cleaning. I've never had an employee rub me the wrong way, I've definitely seen the employees handle overbearing customers in super professional manners, but as stated, I have only had good conversations with the staff. read more

I stopped at this Stater Bros. on N Santa Fe in Vista last week. I live in Mission Viejo, and for the past 3 weeks can't find even 1/2 of the everyday items I need to be able to shelter-in-place during this pandemic. (My Mom's in an Assisted Living community close by this market and I had promised I'd leave some items by her front door.) All I can say is Manager, Justin S. & and his Stater Bros. employees had this store very clean, freshly stocked and I found EVERYTHING I needed, and more in less than 1/2 hour. The prices were great, the produce was full, organized, and everyone helped me -- with a positive, happy attitude. Thank you everyone that works at this store. I will drive back down this week because I was that impressed, grateful and appreciated how hard everyone works to keep this store the best! Congratulations!! read more

I went to the more expensive Albertsons on E Vista Way last minute on St Patricks Day looking for St Pats theme cupcakes for a young girls softball team event. They had none. I called over to this Stater Bros to ask if they had any before driving over. I spoke with John in the bakery dept who said they didn't but told me he could make me some for no extra charge than the normal price. He completely customized these St Patrick's Day cupcakes and had them ready in 20 minutes! I was absolutely floored! Then Stephanie checked me out and she was so personable and kind! I wrote this glowing review for the bakery dept in early September on Next Door Neighbor but should have reviewed it on yelp also. on a Sat in Sept I had an unexpected need for a birthday cake. I called the Bressi Ranch bakery to see if I could get one by late afternoon. I was willing to take anything they had. But no. she checked with the cake decorator and said I could get anything. not only the flavors I wanted but any color or decorations and could have it by noon. What a huge improvement from 5 years ago when I preordered 2 different cakes and both of the were the wrong flavor and even the wrong name. and the cakes are amazingly fresh and delishish now. better than any cake I've ordered anywhere. So happy they saw the light. even store rehab makes it better. My son from LA loves this Stater store. read more
