Statewide did a great job for us. We moved from a 3200 sq ft to a 2500 sq ft house. We talked to Denis at Statewide and sent pictures of the house contents for his estimate. His quote was higher than others but he said he would use 2 trucks and 5 movers. His quote included travel time and cost. He recommended to ask for a 'not to exceed' price with the mover we chose. Denis was very open and honest in his assessment of our move. As well as a not to exceed price he also said he would charge less if it turned out to not be such a big job. We decided to go with Statewide mainly because of our conversations with Denis and because he said it would need 2 trucks. We suspected that and none of the other movers we contacted said this. Denis also said he would like to load on one day and deliver the next. Denis's team showed up on time and worked non stop loading not 2 but 3 trucks. They had a third truck brought over when they saw in person how much stuff we had. They were extremely respectful and careful with our stuff. We had told Denis everything would be boxed except a couple of mirrors and TVs. In reality it is very difficult to pack everything. Denis's team did not complain and just packed the last things into boxes themselves. Our old house has pretty easy access with double doors and fairly wide stairs. The new house has a sloping drive down to the front door, single doors and narrow stairs. The movers put everything into the rooms we asked them to which included some very tight squeezes. There was only one item, a large metal cabinet that had been in our garage that they said they could not get in. We do not have a garage in the new house and the cabinet could not get through our doorways. We have a large 3-piece sectional that we had measured and didn't think would fit. We had arranged with a specialist service to take it apart, move it in, and assemble again. So we had asked the movers to leave it at the front of the house. When everything was moved in a couple of the guys asked if they could try getting the sectional inside. We said you can try but don't think you'll manage it. The 'lead' mover agreed. But they managed to get all 3 parts in. In our opinion this was exceptional and went above and beyond. I know this is a ridiculously long review but this was such a great experience that I wanted to provide these details. Oh, and Denis only charged his original quote - he was in his rights to charge the not to exceed price but kept with the original. We cannot recommend this company enough read more

We are two older folks--one partially disabled and the other injured. We were moving down stairs in bad weather, and trying to downsize significantly while obviously not being able to do much. We were a challenge. Dennis was a delight to work with. He was direct, honest, funny, and gave us a fair quote that he did not exceed. His crew of Pete and Milton showed up on time, asked good questions, worked like whirlwinds, and finished early on both ends of the move. . They packed, unpacked, and hauled away extras. Nothing was damaged, everything was where it was supposed to be and clearly labeled. As traumatic as the moving experience was for us personally, Statewide made it as easy as possible. This involved 2 flights of stairs, real heavy lifting, plus placing items in the basement for temporary storage, including a baby grand piano and antique furniture! We have engaged him on several occasions in the last 20 years, moving pieces of furniture and two grand pianos back and forth locally between my in-law's place, our house, and second home. This is probably really a 2.5 star review. 5 stars for work quality, 0 stars for customer service. Friends of ours had used them, had gotten a great price from them and recommended them to us. I called Dennis at Statewide to get a rough idea on pricing and availability. He wouldn't give me a ballpark and then took a week to come to my house and give me a price. At that time he gave me a price range that was twice what my friends paid, but told me that if the move went well and we moved a lot of the small/fragile stuff it would be less. In the end he actually charged my at the high end of the range despite my family having moved every small/fragile item in the house. When I called later to ask Dennis why I was charged more than twice what my friends paid (whose house was a similar size, but with a bit less in it) I got 100% push back. At first he was polite about it, but when I pressed him further he got agitated and basically told me that he accepted none of my feedback as a customer. He then begrudgingly offered me a sub-10% refund, but did it in such an insulting way that I couldn't even respond. I wished him luck and ended the discussion. So, to sum up, great movers, really fast. They use a small truck which is a little odd when they have to haul multiple loads, but that was mostly fine (other than my contractors not being prepared for them to show up with the first load an hour after the move started). But in terms of customer service, Dennis clearly lives in the "customer is stupid" world of customer service. Very disappointing. read more

They packed all our precious china and Chrystal glasses in a very professional manner and the move was done in a timely manner with no breakage or damage. Dennis and his partner arrived on time, were friendly and polite and moved my 1925 baby grand Mason and Hamlin piano from San Mateo to Oakland without a hitch. They took with great care with how they negotiated the piano out of the San Mateo house, down the steps, into the truck, and the reverse when bringing it into and placing it in the Oakland house. Statewide did an outstanding job of moving my grand piano and a mountain of personal possessions! Dennis the owner, and Kieran and Richard, the associates, are tops--integrity plus! The piano had to come through the window with a crane and they were artists at work! My piano was treated like gold. My household goods were all treated respectfully and arrived in great shape. Statewide has everything you would want in a mover - talent, skill, demeanor, punctuality, good prices, hard work -- you name it. They were fast, they were careful, they were polite, they were reassuring when I was nervous. A few months later, I called them for advice to fix with a piece of furniture -- a floor-to-ceiling large hutch that was very old and failing. These guys are as good as it gets!!!! I was moving what is to me a priceless baby grand piano, given to me by my grandmother, into a movers challenged home in the east bay hills. I did not want to trust it to my regular household movers. Dennis and Statewide came recommended by a local piano store. I was still scared to have the piano coming down a set of steep stairs. These guys are flakes. I will never call them again, use them, or recommend them. They gave me a very competitive quote to move and store a desk from the East Bay to the City. The stuff needed to be out of a friend's office by 12/31. Kieran asked me to e-mail him a few days prior. it went unanswered for several days as di several phone messages. The pm of 12/30, they told me that they couldn't do it. Very unprofessional. No way to treat anybody, let alone run a busieness. I suspect this shows up in other ways in dealing with these guys. read more

There is nothing bad I can say about the company and the people that work for this company. Dennis and his co-workers were prompt, courteous, dependable and absolutely a pleasure to work with. I was re-carpeting my entire home and needed my Grand Piano to be removed from my sunken living room temporarily and then moved backed into the room upon carpet installation. Top notch piano moving - fast, respectful of the space and the piano, friendly and great price for the work. Neil got me out of a bind when I stupidly loaded a 500-lb piano into my truck. I needed it out fast and up my 2 flights of stairs. He called me back within a few business hours of my message, stopped by my house same day to see if the piano would even fit, and did the move the very next morning. He, Kieran and Brian were friendly and even made my piano predicament fun because they were happy and hardworking, even singing/whistling at times. I still felt they were professional and I was comfortable having them handling a prized possession and in my home. The price I paid was comparable to two other companies I had looked at that were not available for a number of days.
