We had a very complicated move from San Francisco to Santa Fe, NM. We didn't just pack up our house, but we also packed up my mothers, combined everything, put it all in storage until we found a single home in Santa Fe and then moved everything in. On the initial moving day we had two crews, one at each house and then we had one of these two crews actually move us in 2 months later. Exceptional. When I moved to San Francisco from NYC 27 years ago, I used one of the large national firms - the guys who delivered my stuff arrived almost 2 weeks late and were largely guys picked up from a home depot parking lot. When my mother arrived in San Francisco 10 years ago, again using a national firm, the truck arrived with only a driver and his drugged out girlfriend and no one to unload the truck. I share this as a point of comparison. Whether you are dealing with Kim or Bobby in the office or the guys moving your stuff, everyone is kind, enthusiastic and helpful. The the crews themselves are a really connected and supportive team. Many of these guys have worked for Shamrock for a long time - another proof point that this is a great company. In terms of price Shamrock was slightly cheaper than a bid from Allied, too, and there was no up charge at the end of it all. This is a great and trustworthy company. read more

The guys also proactively asked me for felt pads once we got to the new house, so they can apply them to the feet of my furniture to protect against the hardwood floors. Francisco, Gabriel & team did amazing work. Everything arrived in perfect condition. Francisco even tightened the screws on the dining room chairs when they arrived at their new home. This is the type of customer service that is hard to find these days. The office staff was courteous on the phone and via email. They followed-up on every question I had in a timely matter. Got recommendations from my HOA for them and decided to give it a try. They impressed me over the phone so even though they were the most expensive out of all, I decided to go with shamrock. And they didn't disappoint. Starting with Jose who came to do the estimate, he took maybe 10 minutes only but his assessment was so thorough and accurate!!! He was very helpful in giving me tips what to prioritize in packing and what not. Prior to the day, Kim made sure I knew what I needed to do and patiently answered all my questions. On the move say, Victor, Alberto, Rigo and Jose showed up. They were awesome! My HOA is pretty strict and they are more familiar with all the rules than I am (well, I just moved in)- so that was very helpful especially knowing what to look for during pre- and post-move walk downs. As I unpack the boxes they packed, I am still amazed by their attention to details especially when they were packing the kitchen stuff, the breakables, etc. Yes, they are not cheap, but it's worth it! I've used Shamrock 4 times now! I hope to never need them because I just don't want to move again...but if I do, I will use them again. I've used office moving and residential packing, moving, & storage. Friendly, easy quotes. I did one move on a fixed price where someone came to survey everything I was moving and the other moves were done on an estimate. The estimates were always right so I was charged what they estimated. Crew was always on time or early. Very efficient and careful with things (well as careful as you would expect movers to be). They will deliver boxes ahead of time to you if you're packing on your own. Usually they offer used boxes at a discount if you want those. For storage, if you need to access it, there are lots of different fees you should just understand if for some reason you need access to your vaults. In order for them to get the parking permit for you, you need to ask them well in advance and they will add charges to your bill. Otherwise you can go down and get your own parking permit. You can chance double parking etc, but it's at your own risk. For slow residential neighborhoods, you could risk it, or try to save a spot with your own car, but in the heavily trafficked mixed use areas with metered parking, you may want to get the parking permit. read more

The good bad and ugly moving experience with Shamrock has me questioning why there are so many great reviews for this company. This is my 4th move in the bay area in the past 7 years - unfortunately I'm getting to be a pro at this and also therefore have a frame of reference as to what to expect. Hired Shamrock for an apartment move. Full packing service, full insurance, etc. Items being moved are of nice quality. The individual who came out to do the assessment told me they had picked up from my building before and they knew what size truck to send for the loading dock. Estimate was reasonable but on the higher end compared to others but with their reputation, I wanted a good move, said ok. Booking was easy. They do book up fast so book in advance if you decide to move forward. Day of pack and move, the team shows up with a truck too big to fit in the loading dock and they asked me what to do about it. Seriously? They parked illegally on the street as a work around and were lucky to have any parking (on Tehama). The team was efficient, friendly and packed up everything quickly. The next set of problems came on move in - two pieces of furniture were broken. An occasional plate or dish- sure, I can see that happening however to break two pieces of furniture - one a custom lucite desk chair and the 2nd a large mirrored sideboard indicates to me they don't know how to protect items and load a truck properly. I was pretty much told by the lead mover, Jesus, that "this happens". No remorse or concern that they damaged my goods and would cause me significant inconvenience in having to deal with the issue. I reported the damage to the office and was told the operations manager would contact me. I had to follow up with the office 11 days later after not hearing anything back from the operations manager and was told they had started the repair on the sideboard. It would have been great to discuss first. The sideboard has aged mirrors and I'm concerned about the ability to match the mirror. Nope, they just went ahead without discussing. I'm supposed to be contacted about the chair (which can't be fixed- they snapped off a lucite leg).. we'll see how long this takes. The building I moved into is incredibly particular so I'll have to pay a 2nd fee (500$$) for delivery of the sideboard in addition to the time I'm having to take to deal with this including taking time off of work to accommodate a delivery of the sideboard. Learning how to apologize sincerely and promptly would have helped my attitude about this a great deal. Following up when your company did something wrong would also have helped. Potential movers- suggest you go with someone else. These people aren't the cheapest and if they can't take care of your goods- why use them? read more

The first decision we had to make was IF we were going to use a mover. Thank goodness we did as this was the best investment we could have made. We did regret not using the additional packing service as what all our friends told us came true. We had way more stuff in our apartment than we thought, packing added stress and long days and in the end we still we're not ready for moving day. Thankfully, Shamrock was able to step in and save us with lending an additional hand in the morning of the move. This was just the start of our day, the crew arrived on time, we're friendly and accommodating with our two dogs constantly at their feet, very respectful of our personal property and the neighbors in our apartment. Spoiler alert: We didn't end up hiring them. Here's why: Quotes took a while...the receptionist schedules a quote option of virtual or in person during COVID19) with their estimators which was a little under a week from when we first called. She gave us the option of FaceTime or Zoom for the virtual. We chose Zoom so we could use a non-apple phone. The estimator called and didn't know how to initiate a zoom meeting and asked me to walk her through how to do it even though I had no idea how she's set up or her company's account. I ended up sending her a link to google meets from my account to get this estimate going. WHY they would offer to do a virtual estimate using technology they have no idea how to even open much less effectively use is beyond me. They are SUPER expensive and apparently SUPER slow as molasses when moving based on their estimate. A few business days later, we get an estimate for 4 men for 6 hours each to move a small 3 bedroom where there were only 8 major pieces of furniture. (We're downsizing so most of the furniture was not going with us and certain items were being moved ourselves. We're also packing ourselves so they're not spending any time packing.) There is no way that our move is 24 man hours - validated by the other quotes that estimated HALF the time on the high end. Their man hours and hourly rate were also the highest of the 6 places we called for quotes. On top of that, there's a prepping fee for them to pad furniture and assemble/disassemble furniture (in addition to their time (not standard) and fuel surcharge (not standard). There are other reputable, quality and more affordable companies. My suggestion...Keep looking. read more

Francisco, William and Brian packed up our entire condo at the end of the week, stored all our belongings safely, and we met them the following week in Southern California at our new house. I have used Shamrock for my last two moves, from Oakland to SF in 2019 and within SF in 2022. Both times the movers were extremely helpful and professional. We initially used Shamrock to move 1/2 of our furnishings into a temporary home and 1/2 of our furnishings into one of their storage units until we moved into our long term home. We were so impressed with the team (professional, kind, and efficient). They did a great job understanding what was going into storage vs. what was going into our temporary home. After that initial move, our long term home has taken longer than planned so Shamrock has now moved more of our items into storage. Again, they did a great job making sure that move went smoothly. At one point recently I realized that I had put something into storage that I really needed. I called and Shamrock made both of our storage containers and a member from their team available to help me. I was in and out of their facility, goods in hand, in less than 15 minutes. Each time I've interacted with the Shamrock team, whether it's their office or the team on site, they have been so professional and accommodating. I just threw another scenario at them, I wanted some specific items in storage moved into a home on a tight timeline. They let me know that they will be able to accommodate me and it was on fairly short notice. I used Shamrock to pack and move my stuff and I had a great experience. First, they're super responsive. I got a quote very quickly, and had to reschedule a few times. I also got plenty of information to prepare for the move. My movers showed up exactly at 8am on the dot during my 8-9 window. They brought plenty of boxes and packed everything well. There was no chance any of my furniture was getting dirty. They were very careful with all my things. The whole move was done by 2:30pm. This is extremely impressive, my previous move took until about 7pm and I had less stuff then. I used them because they were recommended by another company to move our expensive furniture, which they were able to do successfully without damaging it, along with the rest of my stuff. However, when it came time to settle the bill, the guy sat down with me and said he'd worked 8 hours. I looked at my watch, and only 6 hours had passed, including the time that I bought them pizza and they ate it, among other screwing around. When I was like "what the hell!?!" the guy actually tried to argue for why he should charge 8 hours. To add insult to injury, they charged me a $60 fuel surchage for a 1 mile move. They must get worse gas mileage than the space shuttle. They also charged me an extra half hour to drive back to their shop even though they didn't tell me about that ahead of time. I think that if you have a company paying for the move and you don't care about getting ripped off but want the job done, these guys are probably OK, but I would never spend my own money on them. Update: the GM of the company, Bobby Fallon, called me after he got my comment card and swore up and down that they don't rip people off and word of mouth is important to their business. He asked what he could do to make it right. I told him to send me $200 to make the amount I ended up paying a fair amount. The check came the very next day, along with a 10% off coupon for using them again. I have hired Shamrock, Delancey Street, and Corrib for local moves here in the city between myself and my business. So far, Corrib was the best and Shamrock the worst. The movers were generally competent and timely, but they were much more disruptive than is necessary. If you're going to spend money on a move, I recommend picking one with redeeming social benefit (e.g. Delancey Street) or going with quality (e.g. Corrib). read more

While the actual movers were fine, I was a little surprised to see how many hidden fees there were. I bought the Living Social deal and thought I was getting a great discount... boy was I wrong. The movers did not arrive until 11:12 am, and moved everything into the truck by 12 pm. I moved only 4 blocks away (bedroom furniture only) so they were able to unload and move everything in by 1:07 pm. For some reason the head guy, Geronimo, insisted I paid an extra fee because they arrived at 11 am and were unable to get a hold of me. At this point I was so tired and just wanted these two men out of my home, since I was moving by myself, so I paid and made a mental note to call their office later. I called the office and explained my situation. They said the GPS on the truck showed they arrived at 11:10 am... ok whatever... and they did not leave until 1:14 pm. So for 7 minutes while they were smoking, talking, picking their asses, not sure, I still had to pay for that time. They refunded half my money because apparently I did not move far away enough. There is a 30 min transportation limit... which I had to pay for. This is on top of $40 gas fee. Oh and since they charged me extra, I didn't have enough cash so had to use a credit card. And of course they have a convenience charge to use your card... Basically this move, 4 blocks with ONLY my bedroom furniture, cost me over $200. Since the guys did a good job moving all my stuff without breaking anything I still tipped them $20 each... kind of regretting it now. I guess they were fine but I was hoping to make my move as cheap as possible, which is why I bought a Living Social deal, but it ended up costing me a lot more than I expected. We were particularly concerned about getting our furniture out of the awkward entryway of our two-story walk-up apartment. Victor and his team were outstanding. Love these guys! Timely: Our three Quick and Careful workers arrived at 5 minutes to 7am- window was between 7am and 10am. They actually got US out of bed. They loaded up our 2000 sq. ft house and were on the road before 10am. ABOVE and BEYOND the call of duty: Not only did they disassemble our hunk of a king sized bed in LA, and lower it over the balcony down 3 stories (would not fit down the stairs) to load onto the truck, they also reassembled it after driving 7 hours and unloading here in SF. AND they disassembled a bed that was already in our loft bedroom here in SF, moved it to the downstairs bedroom, and reassembled it. I have moved several times, the last cross country without a hitch. So I figured a within-the-complex move would be a walk in the park. Everyone here recommended Shamrock. The price quoted seemed reasonable. They were pleasant, showed up on time. However, it took much longer than the estimated time, and a piece of furniture was damaged. Shamrock moved us from our house into an apartment and from that apartment (and a storage locker) to our new home in April, 2014. For unimportant reasons, we had to use a different mover to move stuff from our old house into the storage locker. The move itself went very well. The movers were on time, friendly, capable, and the bid was accurate. Shamrock really shined in their follow-up when the move was complete and we discovered a few damaged items. I reported the damage to both Shamrock and to the other mover writing identical letters and sending identical pictures of the damage. The responses I got were very different. The response from "brand x": the owner of the company personally came to my house and looked at the damaged items. Two of the items were scratched furniture. He said the damage could have happened any time and might not have been caused by his movers. He said they could be buffed out and that, even though he denied having any responsibility, he would come back "as a courtesy" to take care of them both. The third item was a broken rocking chair. Mr. owner flatly denied any responsibility because two moving companies had handled the item. Throughout his entire visit I felt like he thought I was trying to get away with something. No one from Brand x ever called back to schedule a return visit to buff out the scratches. Shamrock's response: It took them longer to call but when they did, they simply said "we'll take care of it". On the scheduled visit, a craftsman arrived with tools in hand. He never mentioned the fact that there were two moving companies involved. Instead, he buffed out the two scratched pieces on the spot. He then took the broken rocking chair with him and said he'd fix it in his shop and return it when it was repaired. One week later, the rocking chair was returned to me, fixed nicely, and is in use in my home. No questions asked. I'll recommend to my friends thank you very much. Anyone can move your stuff but Shamrock's customer service made all the difference to us. read more

Terrible at estimating cost and time. Well, I have to say that the movers do a good job of not breaking things. Also, I used the storage facility for nearly 4 years, and all my stuff is here. However, Shamrock is terrible about estimating cost and time. I was quoted to get out of storage that it would be no more than 4 hours and closer to 2. It was my impression that the "forklift fee" was what I was charged for time loading stuff in from their place. I was also quoted an arrival time between 11 and 2. The movers arrived at 2:30 and were out of my place by 4:30. Shamrock called me at 1:45 to tell me the movers were on the way. I was expecting no more than 3 hours to be charged, instead, I was charged 4.5 hours, 1.5 hours of loading stuff at their place. So, an extra half hour beyond the quote, and 2.5 hours beyond the least of the quote. So, if you want your stuff moved well, but slowly, with fees that are not completely spelled out, go with Shamrock. The staff is also very polite. But I would rather have another $160. Or a better quote, I would have been less upset if the time had been gauged properly, and they showed up on time. I could have done something in the 3.5 hours it took them to get here.
