This place is ridiculous!! Warning, don't go here if you want a line or a quick clean up, full transparency, I was a walk-in today. They passed over me multiple times for people that were getting haircuts. Apparently, these lazy mofo only wanted to cut hair but not do line ups/cleanups. After waiting almost 1 1/2 hours I decided to say fuck them and there establishment. So, I decided to go to a barbershop in San Leandro. They took me immediately, lined me up very good. I tipped the guy $15 dollars, which is $30 dollars which is the price of haircut at Station 33. The name of the barbershop in San Leandro is called KJ's Barbershop. Excellent customer service!!!! Gents don't go to Station 33, these mofo are absolutely useless in my opinion. These mofo only wanted to cut hair. In short, it was about the money and nothing else. That's damn shame, as these mofo lost out on a hella big tip for what probably would've taken their ass 15 minutes or so to do. Again, fuck them and that weak ass establishment. ORIGINALLY IT WAS 3 stars... I've only been here two times I got my haircut by a guy named Al. He seemed nice and did an ok job on my hair the first time. I was a bit put off by the disturbing stories he was telling me about his girlfriend kids and how they're in gangs...but I just assumed he wanted to vent. I even tipped him $5 just because I was trying to be supportive and encouraging. I know sometimes owning your own business can't be easy. The 2nd and last time I went he got aggressive with me and sent me an harassing text messages because I didn't tip this time. Jimmy Sanchez was the best barber here hands down unfortunately he doesn't work here anymore. The barbershop is getting 3/5 based on the fact that there's been multiple times I've gone to the bathroom and there's literally shit on the toilet and floor and no one seems to care. And yes I agree that if you don't have a scheduled haircut they seem to make you wait foreverrrr and not to mention jimmy would cut all types of hairs and he would usually be done within 30-45 mins but a decent amount of barbers there, not all of them! But some seem to take 1 hour plus on their haircuts and have one of the most rude appearances ever when cutting their customers. Besides that the location is cool and they tend to play sports and good shows while you're waiting. Jimmy is literally the reason why this place is even getting 3 stars. read more

Station 33 is by far the coolest barber shop that I have ever stepped foot in. It is sports lounge meets high end salon. It has three plasma screen TVs, a pool table, leather couches, and Wi-Fi Internet....this place has everything short of alcohol. (They also cut hair.) Just a little bit of a warning, if you do get bold enough to play pool, if you lose, you have to hit the deck and do twenty push-ups. I've been coming here for a few months to see Jason, and he cuts my hair just the way I like it. They don't discriminate. The first time I needed an appointment, I asked my wife to call and schedule it, and they thought she was the one who needed a fade, but were willing to do it in the name of customer service. This barber shop, despite its lounge feel, still keeps true to the traditional feel of a black barber shop. They talk shit, they support a good street hustle, and have a tattoo parlor in the back. If you are lucky, you can catch the guy that sells chicken, scallops, and King Crab legs out of the back of his truck. So in one stop, you get a hair cut, play a game of pool, get a work out (if you lose), catch up on sports, and leave with dinner in your hand. read more

One day as I was walking home from posting up and working at their next door neighbor (Grand Lake Coffee House) and this guy named Cel engaged me on the street. He said "What you 'gon do with all that hair?" with a smile :) He's a loctitian and barber and wanted to twist me up. I inquired more about his services, asked if they'd be willing to line me up, and he assured me that it'd be no problem. I often have trouble going into unknown Barbershops. Which is why until then, I hadn't ventured in. Today after lunch, I decided to drop in and get an edge up - and was glad to have a positive experience. Being a woman of color, and gender non-conforming, I have to say I felt welcomed and respected. Totally helped to balance out some of the less than savory experiences I've had before at other Barbershops in Oakland. Maurice hooked me up! I chatted him up about my previous expereinces and some of the anxieties about going into shops when I wasn't sure how I'd be received. He edged me up nice and crispy - and worked with me until it was just right. He didn't even get mad about it. In fact he was grateful that I felt comfortable enough to speak up so that he could get it right. Pretty sure I'll be back. I've been here probably 6 or 7 times, becuase my regular barber changed his hours, unfortunately his hours no longer worked for me. So, i've been going to this particular barber named Hugh. EVERY single time i've gone, something is always uneven. I thought at first he just needs to get used to my hair. However, he hasn't got much better. HIs lines has improved greatly, however they're uneven. My beard was also on even. Most people don't notice unless I point it out to them, but I NOTICE. I would think when you charge $25.00 and me tipping an additional 10.00 ($35.00 total) You would make an effort to get it right. My rating is for ONE barber. After years of looking for a MAN'S barbershop, I FINALLY found it. The haircuts are fine, but that's not the point. The point is that when I was a kid in Virginia I used to love going to the local barbershop to listen to the old men (who were probably in their 30s!!!) BSing about sports, guns, politics, women and just life in general. I feel the same way at Station 33. This place is often described as a "Black barbershop," which is true. But I'm a white guy who lives in the neighborhood and I always feel 100% welcome. I feel like a pitch-man for them, but you REALLY need to check this place out. You can always tell how bad a barber is by looking at their hair. Malcolm's head is fucked! From his dry coco curls to his fucked up line. I asked him a few times how long he had worked at the 33, and he gave me two different answers...Ah ha, just like I suspected, these guys are not built to last. Anyway, the decor is classly, however, I felt like there should be some secret door, to some hidden room in the back - where the hustling takes place - we are still in Oakland. I come here every 2-3 weeks and get my haircut by Jimmy. He only does appointments, so you have to check in with him through a call/text. Jimmy gives me the freshest lines! Definitely my "go to" barber here at station 33. I haven't had a chance to get my hair cut by any of the other barbers yet, but whenever I get a cut, I can tell that all the barbers here have mad talent. Everyone leaves this shop looking fresh. Walk-in customers usually have to wait a little while, so I recommend calling in ahead of time to make sure it's not too crowded. read more

When I went in, I sat down and was immediately greeted by Daniel. Once seated comfortably in his chair he asked what I wanted and my only requirement was to leave the top long, as for the rest I gave him his creative freedom! I'm starting a new job and a friend strongly suggested that I get a hair cut. I'd stopped going to my previous stylist because he was just phoning it in and taking my hard earned cheddar. I saw the reviews for Station 33 on Yelp! and thought I'd give them a try. I walked in and Al told me to put my name on the walk-in sign up board. After he was done with his current customer, he sat me down and asked me what I wanted. I had a lot of hair and I told him that I wanted a bald fade, but leaving most of my hair on top. That's exactly what I got. While he was cutting my hair, I also got to know a bit about him and his politics. He's a great conversationalist and a great barber. And, he was glad to have my business. I took a photo of me with my new cut and sent it to my friend. He said it was "on point". I'll be going to Al from now on! read more

I've been here maybe 5 times or so, and I tell you what, Kev gave me the best dang fade I've ever had in my life. However, the other reviews on here about timeliness are correct, and that's why I don't go here anymore. Setting an appointment isn't always easy - you just call/text the barber himself instead of, for example, doing it online or calling the barber shop. Even with an appointment you'll end up waiting 15 minutes. You may get skipped altogether for someone who walked in an hour ago and has been waiting. Then again, I don't think this an appointment-setting kind of place... it's more of a social club that doubles as a barber shop. If you walk in, you'll end up on the couch, waiting an unknown amount of time, and one of the available barbers will eventually ask if you want a cut. There's always at least 5 barbers working, but cuts take a long time. There's a pool table, maybe a dart board, a few TVs, and lots of people hanging out that may not even be getting a cut... just there shooting the ish. It's a tradeoff between a high-quality fade and the amount of this will take out of your day, which varies big time. Just my preference, but I'd like to set an appointment, have it start on time, and be outta there in less than one hour. I've never spent less than one hour here. Although the fade is great, the time kills it. Price is fair and comparable to other shops. Pay cash - not sure if they take card? read more

Went to this place on recommendation of a friend yesterday. The only barber that was cutting hair on a Monday at 4pm was in the back between the signs that had two different prices (one said $30 and $25 for a haircut). I asked for a bald fade which turned into a high and tight once I side I was in the military (Military doesn't equal Marine, Marines only wear high and tights). After literally digging in my hairline as he talked about his issues with his wife I had to stop him because he kept going over the same part. After telling him about my crooked hairline he offered to fix it but I wasn't having it. I could have gotten this haircut with a straight line, no gash in my hairline for $8 on base and not $30. I'm noticing that a lot of the barber shops got people in there cutting hair under the influence, no skills, and hella negativity. I need none of those while getting my crown cut. Ive read some of thee other reviews and i guess you could say from my rating that i dont agree. But I guess its more about the barber cutting your hair than the actual rating of the shop. Anyhow my experience with this curtian barber, Reyod i think his name was at least thats how it sound, was good. He cuts very well, and really took the time to make sure my line was straight, using a razor. He also gave me some pointers on skin care, which at first i thought was odd, but he explian to me that it was all apart of hair care. His chair was all the way in the back of the shop which sucks when you have to walk pass mean mugs and empty barber chairs but is nice when you get to chill and watch the tv thats right next to his chair. It was over all a GREAT experience and REYOD is the barber to go to! read more

Please do not go to this barber shop. I first starting going to Station 33 a year ago to get my hair cut and since then things have changed very much. A year ago the barbers were experienced professionals and did not discriminate against gender or sexuality however this is now different. My old barber has since been fired and if you ask the owner about him he will tell you to get out in disapproval. Now the barber shop is not friendly and the clientele are only men, the owner will pick fights with customers, and they are not queer friendly. Worst haircut I've ever paid for. Going to have to go elsewhere ASAP to get it fixed. I asked to leave some length on top with a fade on the sides. The barber working on me talked on his bluetooth the entire time and reeked of weed. He took over an hour. I thought he was being meticulous but I know now it's because he was in way over his head. If you look at me head on, it looks like I got two different cuts from two different people, neither of whom had any idea what they were doing. The fade is super choppy and completely lopsided- high on the left, low on the right. Underneath the very sloppy and uneven neckline are several patches the barber didn't bother to cut. $25 utterly wasted. read more

Absolutly a wrong place for general patrons to walk in or make an appointment. I have tried both. My cut (the 1st time) was well done. But the man talked about how he was not available..and was married. The second time i walked in visit i was told, no problem, you are not on my appointment book so some one will help you. 2.5 hours later..a man who walked in later stated he did not know I was there. There is a sign in board right by the door. Today i made an appt. came in on time..so did the barbar and guess what..i am waiting a was ask a million questions about how i called, who i called and the guy walks in an looks at me like i came to marry his azz. Just been browsing to find some barbers in the bay and I stumbled upon this place after going to another one in Jack London. Jimmy here is on point and he does a nice job of giving a fade and tapers. First time / walk in. Short wait, my barber told me it was his first day - what he didn't tell me was this was his first time cutting hair, EVER. He had no idea what to do when I asked him to maintain my prior style, and just thin and shorten. I didn't wish to be rude, as he sort of implied he had been incarcerated and I didn't want his first professional experience to have a complaining customer. But the management should not have allowed him to cut a customer - at the very least I deserved notice that I would be cut by a training barber. Obviously I'm not a guy so I don't come here, but my cousin and nephew are regulars here for the barber called Jimmy. I came here for my nephew so he could get cut by this famous Jimmy man and I must say, dude got bars. My nephew's hair was needing some TLC and after an hour my nephew was lookin like Mr. Snatch-Yo-Bihhhh. The barber shop is pretty legit. I think I remember seeing two TVs and there fasho was a pool table. Pretty big barber shop. What I like most is that the barbers weren't like disrespectful as far as their conversations. I've been to those super hood ghetto barber shops and the barbers would really be cussin and whatnot (not that I mind, I really don't lol) and even got bottles near them, but I loved how nobody was talking bout f/ckin b/tches and gettin money or whateva since my nephew was in there. The barber Daniel gave me a very good detailed haircut. within minutes of exiting the shop two hipster girls jumped at me demanding my loving. just then, two cars crashed into each other and the two drivers were both staring directly at me. people suddenly started exiting their businesses wondering what all the commotion was about and soon I was standing in the middle of a sea of people who were all starring at me. As people started to rush at me, police officers arrived. Running past the crashed vehicles, they ran straight towards me, as the first officer reaches me she asked me where I got my haircut and told me I must leave the scene as I was causing mayhem in the streets. as I tried to run, a black van pulled up next to me and three woman in ski masked and noticeably large breasts, grabbed me and threw me in the van then quickly pulled off. I woke up in a dark room not knowing where I was and not able to see a thing, all I could hear was whispering. something about my hair.
