Must eat here! This little understated restaurant is modern and homey at the same time. Very kid friendly and quite possibly the best clam pasta I have ever had. I still think about it days later! Husband had the meatloaf special - also delicious and the kids had Mac and cheese. You'd think it would be just regular boxed Mac and cheese but we were impressed that Station House goes to the entrabeffor of making it square shaped with melted cheese down the center. We also got the bread plate and the oysters on a half shell - warm and cold. Honestly the warm with melted butter was pretty good but too rich for me. I work weekends since time immortal. Therefore, I have to get my yayas out during the week and I love to take little magical mystery tours through Marin County, the back roads, the hills and valleys, and stopping along at various cafés, bakeries, bars and restaurants. While all along absorbing the beautiful scenery. And beautiful scenery there is indeed, just a short few miles from the bustling city life. My friends from Berkeley came for the ride today for a little bit of decadent indulgence. (I'll keep their names anonymous since I'm not sure if they're still in the witness protection program?) We had lunch at a pizza spot at Tam Junction then took a ride over Mount Tamalpais and down into Stinson beach, and then on to Point Reyes Station. When we got to Point Reyes Station the first thing that I mentioned was the Station House, and much to our surprise as we glanced over it was all shut down! Closed, shuttered, no more, another victim of Covid economy, etc.? We snagged the first parking space a block down the road on the right side, parked, and lo and behold as we crossed the street there it was- the all new Station House! A ghost orchid, appearing in Shangri-La! Drawing us in was the George Nelson bubble lamps hanging from the ceiling and a peek in the windows revealed a much hipper modernized facility in a new location with an incredible stunning aesthetic. Every detail is well thought out and expertly executed. From the polished floors to the beautiful lighting and artwork it is truly a gem. Even the restroom areas are exquisitely presented with sinks and mirrors outside of the stalls. Beautiful tiling in the stall area that somewhat resembles Heath ceramics subway tile. In my book, if there's a nice restroom area you've already scored tons of points and client appreciation. The bartender was top notch and drives quite a ways to come to his gig. We had a great chat with a charming local woman, who appears to eat there often- a real interesting and fun conversation. I had a killer Old Fashioned and my friend had a beer and his wife had an absolutely lovely non-alcoholic drink which I believe was called the Big Lyre. The only negative was that we had just eaten, so we tried the popovers which were out of this world and served with a succulent honey butter. I am filled with anticipation for my next visit, which will certainly be on my next day off. It's a bit of a journey to get there, but well worth it. It's been 3 years since I last ate here, and it's still as amazing as I remembered! Service: My waitress was super friendly and homey. Ambiance: Modern restaurant, it was clean. There's a bar as well. Arrived Saturday around 5 and it wasn't too busy no reservation needed. It picked up business around 5:30-6:00 PM. 1/2 dozen oysters $24 (5/5): Easily the best oysters, especially sourced from Tomales Bay nearby. Served raw on ice with mignonette or broiled with garlic butter. Ordered each half. Raw was very good, but broiled with garlic butter is phenomenal. Wagyu skirt steak $38 (5/5): Akaushi beef, green beans, marble potatoes, spring onions, truffle butter & demi glace. The steak was incredibly tender, and the outer sear was peppered. The sauce tasted like a wine reduction, and it definitely felt heavy. The tiny onions and greens were a nice touch, wish there was a side of mashed potatoes but great regardless. This visit felt like a much better experience than my last. Would go again, definitely a place not for the faint of the wallet. read more

The nicest restaurant in town with a big menu with plenty to choose from. Not cheap, but generous portions and everything was tasty. Oysters - cleaned well, really cold and sweet. Smoked trout salad- a sleeper hit. I really loved this! Lots of trout and the dressing was perfect. Wagyu skirt steak - this was cooked well and the sauce was addicting. However not all the membrane/silver skin was removed so very tough to chew Lamb bolognese - this was a winner. Tons of meat, big portion, just delicious Bread pudding - very tasty and loved the caramel and cream. But it was not warmed through which I think would have made it even better! read more

We've come to Station House Cafe for years in all its iterations. Back in its original location again but with a modern, moody decor, it's still a cozy, welcoming stop. This visit we had a nicely crafted mezcal (NA) cocktail with a rich, earthy depth that made it feel like a true cocktail, not a compromise. We enjoyed their turkey chili: generous, hearty, & smoky, topped with cheese and served alongside cornbread. Their bread plate ($7) features cornbread and Station House's popovers--airy, golden and served with butter. (A historical favorite, we are glad to see them still on the menu.) Service is helpful, & made needed adjustments. That said, our entrée salad was underwhelming. The smoked trout salad ($18) barely had trout, mostly grated cheese, romaine leaves and a few trout shreds, making it feel sparse and not worth the price. Unevenly dressed, there were more of bites of plain romaine lettuce than I would have liked. For us, Station House is a reliable 3-3.5 stars. I'm thankful they kept their nostalgic popovers on the menu. A good stop overall --but order thoughtfully. read more

Stopped by on a Sunday evening to enjoy desserts and cocktails for my bday after a day around the area for my birthday. It wasn't busy at 5:00pm and there were plenty of tables, no lines whatsoever. Host sat us down, but then we were "greeted" by our server Karen chastised us for sitting at the table and not the bar. I told her it was my birthday and we just wanted to do a little celebration as we just went to Hog Island for a late lunch. Mind you, we were also maybe thinking of staying for dinner, but after that greeting, we just wanted to eat the desserts and go. She did bring out the desserts with a candle which I acknowledge was thoughtful. She just grabbed the plates off the table without even asking if we were done. We just felt like she was rushing us and wanted us out. We maybe were there for 20 minutes. Didn't stick around for dinner or another round of drinks. Everyone in the party had worked in hospitality and the industry and we were quite appalled by the lack of service and the attitude sent our way. Needless to say where we would have done a bigger tip cause we know it was a smaller check due to our orders, we declined and matched the tip to match the service. Stopped here after a day exploring the coastline. They were closed for one hour between lunch and dinner so we walked around the downtown area to browse the local stores. ' Once they opened, we were greeted by a friendly staff member and seated. The dining space was comfy and overlooks the quaint downtown street which is great for people watching. The server was very personable and offered recommendations. The menu is diverse for vegetarians, seafood lovers and meat eaters. I ordered an espresso martini and veggie burger with fries. We also tried some appetizers - fresh local oysters (for my bf) and crispy croquettes of warm mac & cheese. He also ordered the Station House Burger and we both got fries as our side. Definitely some comfort food. The veggie burger was a little thin for the bun but still tasty and I appreciate that they make their own patty from real foods like mushrooms and a grain versus that processed fake meat crap. Huge kudos for that!! They serve a very generous portion of fries on the side so if someone wants the salad and the other fries, you can totally split them. :O) They also offer a beautiful selection of salads that feature locally sourced veggies and cheeses like Point Reyes blue and Sonoma goat cheese. I the grand tradition of the California gold rush, I ordered one of my all-time favorite meals - a Hangtown Fry - basically an open-faced omelette with fried oysters, bacon, and usually spinach. The station house came through, and the Hangtown fry came with salad and home fried new potatoes -- yum! Located on the main drag, it's a pleasant restaurant, appealing on the outside and attractive on the inside. The service was impeccable. I'll be going back the next time I'm in town. My only beef: a 5% "Fair Wage surcharge". What is that? If it's a cost of doing business, build it into the pricing ... don't annoy me with involuntary upsells. read more

Decided to drop in and try Station house. I ordered the Wagyu Steak which was very good and tender and was decently sized. They have Pliney on tap which is good. Our server was great and everyone was friendly. The only surprise was that they charge a 5% mandatory living wage cost when the bill came. I'm not a fan of this and it's basically asking customers to help the restaurant pay for their employees wages. I don't believe this should be the customers responsibility. Even though it's not considered "tip" I did consider it the same. I will usually avoid places like this. Other than that give the Wagyu a try and be wary that this place charges this fee. read more

I've been enjoying meals at Station House for many years, long enough to remember the change from little diner to "big place" across the street, and now back again. I must admit I miss the patio, that was the selling point of the big place. However, losing the patio to gain this newly-renovated original spot makes it sting a bit less. I hate to lead with a mention of the restroom, but the new restroom is really nice, super duper clean and spacious. OK, so to the food... Same delicious food they've always served, with a caveat that sometimes a dish has been just a little bit off the mark. I say that with love. I've never had a disappointing meal at Station House, but I have experienced a few times when a dish is lacking just slightly, like popovers that aren't quite as fresh as they usually are, or a beet salad with less goat cheese than usual. It's OK to not be perfect. As I said, I've eaten here many times, and it's a longtime tradition for my family to eat here when we come out to Pt. Reyes, so the occasional miss on one dish will not keep us from coming back. The service is friendly and fast, and the atmosphere is always warm and relaxing. read more

I had family visiting, who stayed locally and we came to Station House Cafe for their first night. It was a foggy, chilly Sunday night but the summer crowds were all in town, wrapping up their weekend. We lucked out and got a table for 4 just before 5 pm, when their dinner menu was on offer. It's pricey but not outrageous and I ordered the house made veggie burger with their side salad. The burger was a little bland. While visiting Point Reyes we came across this cute breakfast place. There was only about a five minute wait on a Sunday morning at 11 AM. We were seated at a four top. The ambience in the restaurant is modern sophisticated. Our server suggested we get our order in quickly as a table of 12 was just seated. We were very glad of her recommendation and our food was delivered in about 15 minutes. Everything was very tasty. I did the math. We have visited the Station House Cafe (old location and new) at least 500 times in the past 20+ years. Our family has celebrated major milestones--my middle kiddo's 2nd birthday, my dad's 60th--and simply regular treats out. In the old location, my dad and I had a weekly coffee klatch where we caught up on each other's writing news. Our waitress knew us and treated us as if we were ordering the whole breakfast side of the menu, even if we only had coffee and toast. She made our traditional meetings special. I'm a busy mom of three, but whenever I had a minute to myself, I'd grab an impromptu lunch at the counter and have a salad and read. On nights when our kids were wee, and nobody wanted to cook, we would love the exciting event of driving the 10 minutes to the restaurant. Dinners out always included popovers! Laughter. Ice cream! In the new location, I like to sit at the bar with a book when I'm solo, or in a window seat with my laptop when I am working on a deadline. My favorite dish currently is the beet salad. My husband loves the burger. My mom is all about the veggie burger. The fries are ridiculously delicious. And I am a French fry connoisseur. The food is beautiful. Whatever you order. The kitchen staff knows what they're doing, and they do each plate with the type of perfection that makes you feel as if you are eating works of art. Tasty art! I love the vibe of the new Station House (in its original location). Somehow the restaurant feels both cozy and chic. I don't know how this is possible. It could fit right into LA, but it wouldn't want to. There is good air flow, space between tables, a sense of being around pepole but not on top of them. The color scheme of the restaurant fits perfect with our bay-adjacent little town, and the art on the walls is always inspiring. The art makes you think. Delicious food. Inspiring ambiance. An epic history. What more could you want? Honestly, the *best* part of the Station House for me is the staff. The waitstaff, the bartenders, the hosts are all kind, knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and funny. Maybe I'm biased since I've been a true fan for so long. Nice, Very nice. New location, its called cafe, fancy on one side of the building and casual on the other half, but whatever, lets get to the important part, Food. And its yummy. We started with the Frenchie Croquettes, a crispy bundle of mac & cheese, formed into a chubby mini log with a white dipping sauce . I skipped salad and went directly to the Pork Chop. It was a thick, juicy chop, seasoned and cooked to perfection and placed on top of creamy potatoes and braised veggies. It was enough to take leftovers. Delicious. Since I didn't finish my entree I perused the dessert menu & spotted Lemon, pot de creme. I like a good sweet ending after a meal and it was very satisfying. We also ordered a Caesar chicken salad with portions of chicken on top. And to drink, a massive, tasty Margarita & I ordered my standard Greygoose, dirty martini with olives. It was good but there was a tinge of mint taste which I didn't appreciate. Note to bartender keep dominating mint away from olives, shaker, stemware and Vodka martini drinkers. This is one of the very few places that have provided consistently excellent service and good food. We have been going to Station House on every trip to Point Reyes over the last 8 years, and my children are always happy afterward. As vegetarians, we tend to need to make a meal out of a small number of options, and some sides, and have tried the vegetarian burger, their beet salad and broccoli side multiple times. Really bummed about this one. We heard such good things and this one fell flat. The restaurant is right on the main street of Point Reyes Station so a great hustling and bustling spot. The food is where things went downhill. We ordered the bread basket of only popovers and requested that they please be brought out hot; the waitress said will do. They were brought out shortly after and they were barely warm. We were all hungry, so we ate them, but it seemed very weird that asking for hot popovers was blatantly ignored/dismissed. The turkey chili came out and it was not even warm, and the cornbread was so incredibly dense. The shrimp lettuce wraps had limited flavor and were super small. The Caesar salad with chicken was substantial with a large piece of protein so highly recommend that. At the end of our meal when sharing with the waitress that the chili came out cold, she sort of mocked us when we mentioned she should share with the kitchen that the soup came out cold (in no restaurant do you serve chili cold). While the Station House Cafe oozes serious charm, the food itself is altogether disappointing. The decor hits the perfect balance of rustic and sleek and is just the right amount of upscale for Point Reyes Station. That said, the food is in no way the best in town and it only leads the pack in style. Substance? Not so much. My beet salad sounded like a match made in heaven on paper. Goat cheese? Candied walnuts? Beets? Kale? What could go wrong? Well, for starters the quantity of non-kale greens eclipsed all other ingredients in presentation and taste, the citrus vinaigrette being all but AWOL. Meanwhile, the major flavor contributors were buried (the goat cheese especially was in scant supply). The kale was merely a sprinkling of dried greenery atop the goat cheese, barely even worth listing on the menu. The one bright spot was the well-roasted beets. In a very different context they would be enough to propel a dish. My expectations were truly dashed, though I hope other diners may have found better options. read more

This was a treat for me. Their other location had been a favorite of mine for ages, and I was hesitant to try the new location, because there was no garden. But when I walked into the new location (sans garden) I was very happily surprised. Somehow they had managed to create a similar vibe to the old location. Its quite different, yet still similar, if that makes sense. So, the "acid test" would be the food, because that's what I really liked about the old location. I was encouraged to see familiar items, such as the arugula beet salad (yum), but I decided on the Reuben with house made chips, and I was not disappointed. I also tried a beverage without "spirits" named a "Bad Liar", I mean really who could resist? It was expensive, but delicious. Service was stellar. Yay! Still a favorite! read more

We had dinner here on Father's Day. I really like the Station House but the food quality is uneven and inconsistent. Tonight, my New York steak special was probably the best meal I've ever had there. Everything on my plate was good and hot and had a lot of flavor. One of the best steaks I've had in a long time. The veggies were crunchy and the mashed potatoes were garlicy. Unfortunately, though, a couple of meals at our table were not so good. The duck risotto was too salty. I'm not sure what was going on with the burger but it had some unknown flavor that did not compliment it. We had a group of 7 and we stayed for about 2 hours. After about an hour and a half, it was clear to me that they wanted us to leave. Someone kept looking around the corner at our table. I didn't like that. It actually probably encouraged me to stay longer. Summary: the review of my food alone (New York steak) would have been 5 stars but my previous 4 star review down to 3 stars. Station House Cafe in the sleepy western Marin town of Inverness (population, 1,500) is a go-to, delicious staple dining option for locals and tourists alike. An iconic Resto for Inverness for years, it recently moved across the street from it's original downtown location into it's present modern and nicely constructed decor and ambiance after 3 years of trying to satisfy local red tape requirements which is a hallmark of Marin county governments, municipalities and privileged residents regarding any change or construction. The restaurant has a center main entrance, and 2 dining rooms on either side of the hostess reception by the door, the bar and kitchen behind that middle section, with gender neutral private WC and communal sink, like many newer constructed restos in SF, in the rear left of the building. The food is great, with many locally grown ingredients and healthy but tasty mains, starter and sides. Our party had the 1) Bolinas Halibut, locally caught, which was wonderful; 2) the Turkey Chili which was delish; the 3) Station Burger with fries which was enjoyable and cooked as ordered, and 4) I had the Fettuccine, which was light, perfect Al dente noodles in a thin red sauce with kale, and thinly sliced veggie accents, with some caper flavored complexity. Everyone enjoyed their orders. We started with Caesar's salad with anchovy optional, and a great beet salad with goat cheese. Oh, but start off with fresh Popovers! They are known for these fresh and baked treats, served with a great salted butter spread! If you've been looking for fresh Popovers, these alone almost are worth the drive in from the City! Ergo "Cafe" is a bit of a misnomer, (it's nothing like Denny's) because this is local dining with fresh local ingredients, superbly prepared, and efficiently served, to satisfy a well seasoned palate of well travelled visitors or privileged veterans of California Cuisine to a degree first started decades ago by Alice Waters and Wolfgang Puck. It's not that level, but the concept is a local Cafe version with that intent in a sparsely populated West Marin location that is quite delightful. Bonus: this is the Spark After dark, the late night place to be, in sleepy Inverness, as on the Thursday night we dined, a jazz quartet started up around 7:30p in one of the dining rooms, to provide entertainment and the opportunity for locals and visitors to participate in social lubrication from the bar together to with the jazzy eargasms from the band. This restaurant is a long time staple in Point Reyes Station. They've recently moved to a new location up the block. The new space is very nice. We were greeted and seated right away. The service was fast and friendly. The drinks came out impossibly fast, as did the food. The turkey chili is a good go to for me. Very satisfying and it comes with a yummy corn muffin. My wife really likes the house made veggie burger. Already looking forward to going back and enjoying the new bar area. Definitely a place to check out when you're in the area. read more

Ok so Point Reyes Station isn't a big town- you don't have a TON of options for dinner but honestly Station House Cafe was a really pleasant experience and the food was great. I see some reviews mentioning this is their new location, so I suspect that its ratings may be dragged down by past lesser ratings before their move. The interior of the restaurant feels modern and stylish, they have a fun airport-style letter flip sign that changes messages every 30ish seconds, cute bar and decor. Clean restrooms. Food was quite yummy! Not the cheapest, but worth for the quality I think. I had the Point Reyes 75 which was a cute local spin on a French 75 with locally brewed mead mixed in. The bread basket was a tad small, but the popovers and corn muffing were good with butter (a bit dry/dense on their own). The skirt steak salad was great though!! Crispy fried shallots, tender steak slices, and great dressing- a super well balanced salad. Service was nice and we were seated almost immediately on a summer Saturday around 5:30 pm as a party of 4. 5% fair wage surcharge, but it's a small town so I'm happy to support. read more
