I am a former employee of WL Staton Heating, Air Conditioning, Plumbing & Excavating, and I want to share my personal experience with the company. During my time there, one of my biggest concerns was technicians being sent out to install newer equipment without receiving enough proper training beforehand. Several employees, including myself, asked multiple times for additional training so we could install and service the equipment correctly. In my experience, that training was not always provided, which led to unnecessary callbacks and technicians having to return to correct problems. I also experienced issues with bonuses and compensation that I believed I had earned but had difficulty getting paid. I had concerns with the sales side of the company as well. I personally saw situations where I believed customers were sold equipment they did not need or equipment that was not sized correctly for the home, which later created additional work and return visits. Pricing is another reason I believe customers should get a second opinion. I saw charges such as around $800 for a capacitor replacement, which I personally believe is extremely high compared with typical HVAC repair pricing. I am not posting this simply because I am a former employee. I believe customers and future employees deserve to hear about my experience working there. There are technicians who genuinely want to do good work, but proper training, communication, fair compensation, and support from management are extremely important. My advice to customers is to ask questions, get multiple estimates on major repairs or replacements, make sure proper equipment sizing is being done, and understand exactly what you are being charged for before approving the work. read more

Did not fix problem in one faucet. Overlooked a kinked hose which is the likely culprit to low water flow. Left faucet handle out of alignment. I'll have to bring in another plumber to get this resolved. Because I'm not going to pay another $600 to fix what wasn't fixed first visit. This work was not worth the $600 charged. How do you miss these things? He was trying to up sell me on other service. So I couldn't get him out quick enough. AVOID THESE CLOWNS. What should have been a $300-400 at most repair they originally asked $890. I should have paid the $40 and told them to get the hell out. I needed the anode rod replaced in my hot water heater. Staton's communication and scheduling were impressive, but the guy who came out really pushed an expensive monthly payment plan and then quoted me over $2,000 to replace the anode rod. I'm 70 and live in a nice waterfront house so I'm thinking that I look like an old guy with more money than sense. I said no thanks and hired a small-firm plumber who did the job for $175. read more

I have had Staton Plumbing come out twice to my house recently first was a routine leaky toilet issue and the second was an emergency water pipe burst. In both instances the plumbers were great. They were nice, personable, did good work, explained what they were doing, and educated me about things as well. The company overall has a good website, Text, app., and good communication from a dispatcher. I think I called them originally because I liked their commercials and I thought that was a dumb reason to call. But in the end, I'm glad I did. The most recent plumber's name was Steve. I was disappointed with my experience with Stanton Plumbing. They charged me $500 to install a new faucet, and then another $500 just to replace the cartridge behind it -- even though the faucet had already been removed in the process. After I complained, they refunded me $200, which I appreciated, but I still feel the total cost should have been closer to $500 for the whole job. Because of this experience, I will not be using Stanton Plumbing again. read more

Do not use, under any circumstance. I paid $19k for a brand new mid range HVAC system that is now a year old. In that year, Staton came out almost a dozen times for continual issues. Over a month ago they finally agreed to send out a manager. It was found that there was no problem with the unit--they hadn't wired the sensor into the GFCI, or plugged in the condensator pump. They sent contractors out, who tore stuff up to repair--and a week later despite multiple calls it remains tore up waiting to be approved for repair. There has been very little communication. I have been calling for a month trying to talk to Brian and Sam, who promise to help and call back, but almost never do. Brian demonstrated almost no interest in the wreck his team has created, and despite repeated messages this week about the emergency need to approve and complete repairs this week I have received nothing but regrets they are in meetings. Nothing left to do but contact the Better Business Bureau. Please, avoid the disaster of hiring a company that seems to think it's a jack of all trades--this one is the master of none. Can't wait for the phony "Give us a call to discuss, we'd love to make it better!" when the literal problem is there is no communication and less follow through. I am not going to continue to call and beg for their attention. This is not petty drama and complaints from some bored woman who who didn't like the color of the unit delivered--I am a single mom who has had to take days off work and be both freezing and sweating throughout the course of a year after paying what to me is a fortune to have a functioning mid range system. All because they didn't do the very basic things that I'm pretty sure are taught not too far after Day 1 in HVAC school. And I have yet to see any evidence they are "sorry I didn't have a positive experience." Finished and filed complaint online with BBB, will be following up with phone calls. They said once again this morning that everyone is in meetings, which is the same answer I've gotten for weeks. I was told managers would be out of meetings at 12:30 today. I can't put my house on the market (which I desperately need to do), because their contractor tore the basement up and they aren't green lighting repairs. I will continue to update, and will make an effort not to engage in hyperbole by describing actions only. Staton's incompetence and almost complete lack of interest in resolving this continues to remains a constant throughout this nightmare. read more

After spending more than $15K to replace rusted pipes causing flooding in our basement and lower-level bathroom, we awaken today with a flooded basement. Staton jack-hammered our basement floor to begin the pipe replacement and then brought a back-howe to create an approx. 7' ditch to connect the new pipes from the basement to the City line. The City of Annapolis showed up the day after and inspected Staton's work and their piping line. Then, our kitchen sink starting backing up, not draining, and Staton returned to let us know that the kitchen piping was separate from the main line piping. Why wasn't this put forward earlier in the process? Then, backup occurred again in November. Staton then blamed that the blockage was on the Annapolis City line and not theirs. We called the City and they sent a tech who mounted a camera and inspected the City pipes. Everything was cleared and fine. Now this on December 15, 2025! We left a message requesting a call from Will Staton and he is not available at this time. Will update this review once all matters are addressed and rectified by Staton Heating Cooling & Plumbing. I am searching for a new plumbing company. This company does decent work and has installed a garbage disposal and hose bib for me but they trap you with their pricing model. This is the only business I've worked with that charges a "service charge" for someone to come out and give a quote if you decide not to have them do the work. This pricing strategy leaves you trapped. Do you accept their quote or waste your money paying them to leave? The quote they gave for this hose bib replacement felt very excessive to me and I have since had the opportunity to talk with other master plumbers that would have done the work for half the cost. It was a short and easy job but overall I felt taken advantage of by this company. read more

I obtained various quotes and W. L. was reasonable, at $75 per units. Other places quoted me over $250. I paid $150 for two units for a One Time Maintanance- HVAC Service. I received a call, email and text about the appointment information along with a picture of the technician, which was very helpful. From a safety perspective, I was glad I knew who I was going to open my door to. No additional dispatch fee ($39) was charged. When scheduling, be sure to get quote for services and ask whether there is an additional dispatch fee to avoid any surprises as described in other reviews. read more

Called them at 0700. Setup an appointment for between 1200-1600. At 1400, they told me they weren't coming. On a Friday, late in the day, I either now has to pay for emergency repairs or wait until Monday. Unacceptable. No doubt they will respond back that it was unforeseen. That's more of an excuse. They also do emergency work, they could come after hours. But their only solution was tomorrow, when I won't be home as we have an event. read more

I felted he kept everything up front, I did not feel like I was like I was being taken advantage of. He was very skill in his job and showed the upmost respect in everything that was done. A/C not putting out cold air. Called Statan on June 29. Tech came out said there was a freon leak but didnt know where. He put more freon in to provide temporary fix. Found leak on his 2nd visit but said a broken part needed to be ordered. After a few days the freon was out and house got hot again. Another tech came out and first thing he said was "What do you want me to do?" He agreed to put more freon in but today (July 17) the freon is out again. Called Statan and asked for a tech dispatch to provide unit with more freon until part arrives to fix leak, but have never received any call, which wasnt the first time since June 29 I or my wife have called and promised a call back but no one ever called us. As I type this sweat is rolling off of me and I am thoroughly disgusted with this company and still dont know when my unit will be fixed. And no one at this company seems to give a damn. read more

I was a relatively loyal customer to Staton. I got a well pipe replaced by them and a new water heater and it seemed reasonable although a bit expensive but they did quick, quality work. Then I got a dishwasher delivered and Home Depot refused to install it because the water line came from the basement instead of under the sink so I called Staton and they got someone out within 2 hours. When he got there, he quoted me $985 to install the new dishwasher. I said that seemed unreasonable and asked for a price breakdown and he said there was a $50 haul-away fee and the rest was labor. Over $900 for labor to install a dishwasher is ridiculous. I told him to leave and I did it myself in a matter of hours. Watch out for these guys to try to rip you off even if you are a loyal customer. read more

I made a service call to W.L Staton regarding my leaky outside faucet located in my backyard. The call was received promptly and my appointment was set for service immediately. On 6/11/25, Jeff Kemp, Plumber, from W.L Staton arrived at my home at the designated time. He assessed the problem and subsequently advised me of the condition of the outdated faucet, and the reasonable costs ( which included a discount,) entailed to complete the job. I also had the other faucet located in my front yard replaced as well as it was also outdated and not working properly. Jeff was courteous, kind, knowledgeable and professional with his service. He kept me abreast at all times with each step of the repair, replacement and installation. The work was excellent! Jeff utilized updated equipment for the installation and the copper piping that he installed was beautifully done. The new outside faucets that Jeff installed are a better quality than the outdated ones that were previously there. A job well done by Jeff. 5-Star service; although the negative reviews here seem to be fair. I wouldn't rate a company a 1-start because their prices are high, as long as the service is good! Up to the customer to do their own research and price comparisons! I will say, the pricing is concerning... I was having water heater issues and called them out to diagnose. When scheduling, I inquired about the fees, she just said it would be $39 for them to come out! I didn't ask any follow up questions, but obviously thought... BOOK IT! They came out as scheduled and on time... initial checks led the tech to tell me he had to run a diagnostic to figure out the issue. $263 later, I have an idea of what the issue is although they did cap off the crappy electrical work done by the builder here. My only issue was the lack of transparency when scheduling... there are some plumbers that don't charge to come out... $263 is excessive imo... but they seem to know what they're doing. read more

I have never had any work done by WL Staton, but I did receive an estimate from them. They are way overpriced and charge double the cost of any other plumber. They quoted me $330 to replace garbage disposal just for labor as I already had the new part!!!! Another company quoted me $150. They also wanted about $650 to fix a STRAIGHT section of a hot water pipe (about 7ft; way longer than what needed to be replaced). I did not get the work done. Positive comment - the technician did tell me where to turn off the hot water if all hell breaks loose and both were very nice. The ladies in the office were very patient with me as I called several times about an appointment that would accommodate my work schedule and for my ordered part to arrive at my house. However, what they fail to mention is that their hourly rate is $198/hour. All they tell you is that it's project based. So, it's a ploy to get their company out at your house, then rake you across the coals because at that point most homeowners just want to get the job done. Final thought - Everyone was courteous and accommodating, but their pricing is way too high aka outrageous! They are also not transparent about their pricing. I'm sure the same job will be priced differently according to what neighborhood you live in. read more

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. Recently I had an issue with my HVAC system and had a Staton tech come out to look at it. They quoted me $1.7k to repair the fan control board, which is only a $70 part. I also got an estimate to replace the whole system and they quoted me $15k which included some "discounts" since it was off-season. Other companies quoted $7k-$8k for the same full replacement. Unless Staton's HVAC parts are made out of gold, their pricing is wildly inflated over that of other reputable HVAC contractors. read more

We called WL Staton for a second opinion after another local firm (Blue Dot of MD) checked our existing a/c unit and said the compressor was dead, and that it needed to be replaced along with our furnace at a cost of $15,000. The technician from WL Stanton came out and actually inspected the unit, running a series of tests. Turns out the capacitors on the unit were dead, not the compressor. He had two capacitors in his truck, and the a/c is now back up and running, all for a few hundred bucks. Honest, Reliable and Highly Recommended! read more

I had a refrigerator installed, and when Lowe's pulled out our old one, the water line was not up to standard. We were told we needed a plumber to take care of this issue. Obviously, I wanted to have this fix taken care of the same day. We called Staton and advised that we would like to have someone come as soon as possible. I was told that they would dispatch someone within 30 minutes and the technician arrived with 45 minutes . The techchnician was professional and courteous. He got right to work and took care of the issue. One quality I truly like about Staton is that they respond immediately wither by phone or text. They send a text with all of the information day and time that they will be out and give you a time frame. The most important quality is that they send you a picture in the text and also their background and personal traits they like to do. It is a very personal thing to do and it give you some insight to who you will be working with. read more

On February 12th, 2022, W.L. Staten sent a tech out to install a simple easy trap on my basement unit and a wet switch on my attic unit. Since that visit, my life has been turned upside down!!! On that same day, five hours prior, I had my ducts cleaned by another company. Before the W.L. Staten tech arrived, my heat had been running successfully without any problems for five hours prior to their arrival. When the tech arrived, he advised that the install of the easy trap and wet switch would take approximately 40 minutes in total. Almost close to two hours later, the tech was still in my attic installing the wet switch. When I approached him to see what the problem was, he kept saying that there was something with the fan. When he advised that it was okay to turn the heat back on, all of this smoke started coming from my vents in my master bedroom. The room got instantly foggy. When I asked him what he did to my system, he said "it was like that when I came", which was a lie!! Both systems were in tip top shape before the tech arrived. Prior tSmoke was NEVER coming from my vents!!! I called back to the company and spoke to Chris, who was so incredibly rude to me and was making me feel like I did something wrong! The next morning, February 13th, I woke up severally dizzy and have been plagued with health issues that have worsened ever since!!! The fire department and Washington Gas have been called to get to the bottom of why my HVAC is making me sick. All they can tell me is that no carbon monoxide is being emitted from the units, which I already knew from previous inspections. As time progressed, my dizziness had turned into numbness and tingling in my head, and lower extremities. The inside of my nose, mouth, throat and tongue starts burning every time the heat kicks in. I would get sharp pains in my eyes. My legs would feel weak like they were going to give out. I've even had relatives come over from North Carolina to stay with me for a couple of days and they would start feeling sick. Every month since February, I have been in the ER plagued with these symptoms!! I have hired 3 companies to look at my HVAC system and the final company was the ONLY company that thought to check my refrigerant levels. On 5/22 leaks were found in both units, with the attic unit being the worse. I strongly believe both of my units were sabotaged by the W.L. Staten tech. The smoke from my vents was refrigerant that was intentionally leaked. And I have been breathing in those gases, which explains my health issues! What is the probability of both units having a refrigerant leak at the very same time? It is no secret that the technicians at W.L. Staten work on commission which means they've got to sell something to make money!! Consumer BEWARE! read more

I love this company! This was the 5th plumbing company I had look at an issue involving a leak in my bathroom. They diagnosed the issue, got parts for everything and fixed it in under 4 hours. They even had to do some carpentry work to hook everything up correctly. My bathroom looks great and the price was the best option I had been quoted. This company gouges their customers. I called them with a leaking faucet. They came out quickly and gave me a price of $479 to replace the faucet cartridge. The part sells for $30 at Home Depot and they were done with the job within 40 min. How that came to $479 is nothing short of just taking advantage of their customer. WL Staton replaced two residential electric water heaters. Plumber allowed the helper to finish connecting wires on second heater while he cleaned up tools. A few days later I hired an electrician to diagnose an electric breaker trip problem and he found the wires on the second unit had not been properly tightened before wire nuts were installed. Could have developed into a major issue if not corrected. read more

First experience was absolutely horrendous, however the company assured me that the problems we experienced has been resolved and the person causing the issues had separated from the company. When the next technician was out fixing the original technician's work I figured what the heck I have another issue I need looked at. I was quoted $600+ to fix a drip in my tub spout. The technician was very nice and looked at the shower valve cartridge, when all was said and done he said he changed the cartridge 3 times and there was still a major drip. He said the job would require too much work and said they would not charge me to look at it and that there's no way they could complete it. Once he left I figured I would look at it, I swapped the rubber seals on the original cartridge (which he either put back in or never actually swapped cartridges in the first place) and drip was now cold water instead of the hot water that was originally dripping. Ran to Home Depot bought a cartridge for $50 and replaced it and now more drip. I hate to leave negative reviews but both experiences here were extremely overpriced and bad workmanship. read more

This company is great. I called them on a Thursday to see if I could get a technician out to look at my hot water heater, and they had someone out within a matter of hours. Turned out the whole unit needed to be replaced, which they were able to do the next day. The technician was great, very knowledgeable & helpful, and they were as unobtrusive as possible, considering my HWH is on my patio (and it was really cold on Friday while they were out there replacing it!). I called the company over the weekend about another small thing that came up that I thought was tied to the work done, and they had someone out on Monday to look at it and make sure things were working. Later that day, the same technician who did the original diagnosis/repair called me to confirm all was well, and lastly on Tuesday afternoon, someone called back just to confirm everything had been looked at/I had no issues. It was very thoughtful of them to make sure things were going well, I appreciated all the follow ups! I would definitely recommend them/their work and would call them in the future for any plumbing needs I have. read more

I have a hot water heater that is used for domestic hot water, but also used as our primary heating source for our home. Recently it needed to be replaced so I called W. L Staton for an estimate. They came out and gave me a fair/reasonable price and completed the install in a few hours the next day. Joe and Mike were excellent. Terrible. Emailed -- no response. Called the office and spoke with an individual who said someone else would call me back -- never called me back. Texted another plumber -- apparently he retired and turned over his business to this company. Texter identified themselves as being from Staton and said they would call me after a certain time -- but no return call. When I texted that I was done with their non-responsiveness I received a call. Had an appointment for today -- 4 hour window for them to look at the current water heater and give me an estimate for replacing with a tankless water heater -- NEVER SHOWED and NEVER COMMUNICATED. I have no idea how these guys got good ratinsg based upon their complete lack of responsiveness. Absolutely will send people another direction and not recommend these folks. read more
