The portion sizes may be slightly smaller than what you'd expect for the price, and the poutine in particular seems oddly overpriced for just fries and gravy, but the quality of the food is great and order notes were followed as expected. We ordered two steak and cheese sandwiches and one poutine. The steak is real thin-sliced steak, well seasoned and cooked. The sauce is good and the toppings are hot and fresh. I've only had better steak and cheese once, in the US. The poutine was good, but overpriced. I feel it should be much closer to $5 or $6 for the amount you get, but tasty it definitely was. I was very disappointed. There's such a small amount of meat that there were empty/bald spots on the bun. Also the bun to meat ratio was off. ZERO stars. Not only is the food NOTHING like the pictures, the staff is incompetent and the owner is RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL. My husband went here 2 weeks ago and bought a small poutine. It was not even half way full when he sat down to eat at work. Decided maybe the employee made a mistake and ordered a large poutine to bring home. And as you can see, THISSSS is what he paid FULL price for. It wasn't even HALF WAY filled up. I thought the 1 star reviews were exaggerated, so I called the restaurant to complain. I was told my call would be returned. Up until the next day, no phone call from management or owner. I was about to post my review when I just happen to find the owners number in one of his rambling replies to a customer and sent a txt with pictures. This man called me and I can not even explain how rude he was!!! Passive aggressive, disrespectful, YELLING AT ME and basically blamed me for not finding his PERSONAL number before. And that it wasn't his problem because he wasn't at the store when I called!! I mean.... are you kidding meeeee??? When I told him I will go ahead and post the review before hanging up, I got a text a min later admitting his behaviour and offered a free poutine. As if, after being INSULTED AND YELLED AT I'll walk back in!! Your business is made on the experience of your customers. Paying $7 for something is not even an issue. This owner is missing the principal of food quality, and business ethics. His excuse for the portion was that it is a measured quantity. Potatoes cost pennies!!! Couldn't decide where to go for lunch so I just started walking east on Gerrard. The menu for this place is posted on the side of the building and its what caught my eye in the first place. Walking in, its a fairly small place, with just some high bar tables and stools to sit at. I ordered a standard philly cheesesteak as combo with onion rings. The girl behind the counter was nice and friendly and the food took a few minutes to make, surprisingly long considering.... They put your cheesesteak into foil to keep it hot and then into a little sub sized box for you to take with you. The unfortunate part about this is that when you get back to eat it, you realize that the sandwich itself is significantly smaller than the box would have you believe. I was surprised at how small the sandwich was and how few toppings were on the sandwich, even though I'd said yes to everything she offered (mushrooms, cheese, peppers, onions, hot sauce, mayo and possibly something else). The cheesesteak itself was underwhelming. Not much steak (and poor quality steak at that), very few toppings and if she put mayo and hot sauce on as I asked, I certainly couldn't find it. The cheese is much like a nacho cheese and I didn't get much cheese until I was onto my second half of the sandwich. The bun wasn't very big, or fluffy and it looked at little sad when I unwrapped it. The rings were very good but you don't get many for your money. While the flavor was okay, it really didn't live up to my first and only other philly cheesesteak experience in Vegas. Not much going on here and really not worth the money. Overall, an okay place but I won't go out of my way to return. Nothing special about the sandwich, service was okay but not as fast as I would have liked, given I was the only customer, and the price was out of whack with what you end up with. Avoid this place at all costs. The food is disappointing. Also, the owner (manager?) regularly blocks the bike lane in front of the shop to unload food items from his car. Decided to eat here since I was working nearby at an event. I also had a $5 off coupon when I visited their stall at the CNE. The sandwich as the CNE was decent and quite big so I decided to give them another shot. Boy was it a mistake. I should have read the yelp reviews beforehand. I had to spend $10 to get $5 off. The large 8" sub with combo was $14 with tax. HOLY....that is expensive for fast food. I am so lucky I had that $5 off or I would be steaming! The sandwich was so so so SO SO SO tiny. It was a children menu size and I got the big 8"! I ate it in two bites. I wish I wasnt exaggerating. The sandwich was so pathetic it looked almost paper thin. There is no height to this thing. Toppings were all there but the thin bread made it look so disappointing. The fries were standard fare. The kind you can make at home. The only redeeming factor were the two nice students working there. I feel bad writing this as I am helping to get rid of their jobs. I hope this place closes down. I think some of the reviewers are being too harsh here, but I kind of get it. When you think "steak and cheese", you think greasy goodness. This is quite the opposite. It's fresh beef, natural ingredients and not greasy at all. Personally, I really like that. I get sick after eating too much grease and this was the first time I had a steak and cheese without feeling bloated after. I found it quite tasty. The guy working the cash was very friendly too (who I think was the owner). My only qualm is that i found the fries a bit soggy and they could have been crispier. She seemed like she was barely keeping it together. The fries taste like freezer-burnt McCains. The philly was just bread with packaged gravy with a whisper of real food. I'm not kidding. For a place so close to Banh Mi Boys, I can see why it was a ghost town on a Friday afternoon. It feels like I lined up for bread during the Great Depression. Bought the cheese burger combo for $7. The tiny portion of fries came frozen from a bag. No hand cut in this place. Burger was a disgusting mess. Sauce everywhere, bun was flat as a pancake and the burger had to of been a 4oz patty, like wtf ? Service felt like a typical fast food joint with a hint of SLOW. The first review I ever gave to this restaurant was not a very good one. My mistake- considering I judged a great business off of one experience. The owner personally called me today to apologize for my experience and offer to give me a complimentary meal, which his daughter delivered herself. The chicken philly sandwich was warm, flavourful and on soft and delicious bread. The salad was packed full of vegetables and feta. Overall, amazing customer service put on by this business. I have never experienced such hospitality by such loving, warm and caring people who are passionate about what they do. Highly recommended for a great meal :) read more

I waited 20 minutes, and then got this: 1 great tasting coke. 1 small haft froze box of McCain-ish type Fries. Dry yet soggy. Had a freezer burned taste to them. The sandwich: Where do I start? The meat? Dry, old overcooked, then reheated in microwave. The meat had a gray like appearance. They put some odd raunchy tasting sauce on it. Guessing to hide the dryness. The cheese tasted like nothing. I looked to see if it was there. It was, in colour only. They put mushrooms on it. The mushrooms where gummie-bearie. I thought it was a pencil eraser, same kind of taste and texture. They also but some hot sauce on it. Maybe Sriracha Hot Chili, which I like but not on this. I eat out A LOT, I've had many Philly Cheese Steaks. Here in Toronto (home) and in the USP. I've never written a negative review, I've had many bad meals. I ordered ahead, and my meal was 7 minutes late even though I was the only person there and one employee was on his phone when I arrived. He then picked up my "brownie" (which is any 2-bite brownie you would buy from a grocery store) and tossed it in the microwave for 20 seconds before handing it over in its own bag like it was genuinely its own menu item. The standard cheesesteak sandwich was poor. Meat was stringy, tough, and tasteless, and all of it seemed like the most cooking it had received was being pulled from the back of the fridge and thrown in the microwave. I am generally not inclined to leave reviews (especially negative ones), but this simple experience was so thoroughly disappointing that I feel the need to echo the concerns of other reviewers and advise any people considering going to the Steak & Cheese Factory consider eating elsewhere. This is the kind of restaurant you would imagine seeing on Kitchen Nightmares based on all of the reviews - poor food, poor service, management in complete denial. The staff was very friendly but I found it a little silly when the cashier gestured toward the fridge and asked what kind of pop I wanted and all they had was coke. Some people don't like coke they should get more options. Though the sandwich tasted good it was about 95% bun. The fries are crap frozen fries they toss on the grill top. They had a weird aftertaste like they had been sitting in a fridge for a while. It's too bad they didn't invest in a frier and serve fresh cut fries. Not sure if the other reviewers are all broke students, but I found this shop to be great value for the money. My sandwich was large, fresh, tasty & had plenty of meat on it. It was real shaved beef too, not deli loaf. The apple pie was humongous & fed 2 of us. But best part was the customer service. My sandwich arrived with some green peppers in it, despite having specifically ordered it without. The store manager not only apologized (without any arguments), but personally made me a new sandwich & hand-delivered it to my hotel room in under 15 minutes. I have only been to this establishment once. I went there about a month ago (December 17th) right after my exams for lunch and I was REALLY hungry. -I got the spicy chicken burger, which I thought was $6.25 but I combod it up and it came to roughly $12! Normally I don't give two sh*ts about the price of my food but false advertising is a big no-no to me. But as mentioned earlier, I was really hungry so I went for it. -Not certain about this but when the employee took the chicken patty out of the freezer, I noticed it looked store bought to me. Probably Costco. But definitely not gourmet (another reason why the prices are absurd). -There was only one person working at the time. Granted she was working very hard and this is in no way her fault but the wait time (one customer in front of me) was roughly roughly 20 minutes. Which is definitely not okay for a fast food place. -Customers aren't given an option what to put on their burgers. Spinach, onion, ketchup, and mustard comes default. When I asked the girl to remove the mustard, she gave me a very dirty look. -The fries were trash and the burger was probably 4 total bites (though the taste of the burger was acceptable!) This is the second time I've ever written a negative review about any restaurant in Toronto. Very disappointed and regret my decision to go there. My husband and I tried their sandwiches two days ago. It took around 7 minutes to get everything we ordered, and I can tell you it is worth every penny ( I live in Michigan lol). I have seen a lot of reviews on how the order took long but I mean give these people a break, this is not mc donalds! I would feel like there is something wrong and not fresh if I got my order fast! Thats just my opinion though. My husband ordered a foot long steak and chicken mixed with no tomatos, the best part is that we dont have to get everything on it! The neighbourhood anxiously awaited this new spot to open, after " I Went To Philly" at Yonge and College had to move north due to a condo development. Although the meat and sauce was quite tasty, for what you pay, there was only half of the amount on the bun that the other spot used to serve. So we had mostly bread for our meal. The fries were completely under cooked and raw, were still potato white. The cook really should have seen they weren't ready. Least we tried the place! read more
