Service is slow and food is lukewarm and sub par They really went down hill no more table service it's all kiosk and takes forever

About 2 weeks ago or so we stopped at this location for lunch. We found it strange that there was no cars in the parking lot and a padlock on the door, everything very dark. So we left and chalked it up to another business being closed due to labor shortages, or who knows. After a few days my husband was driving by with son and did see cars, still no lighted open sign, etc. He was able to go in and purchase food. Today, Saturday around two pm and no lighted open sign, padlock on door, just two cars in the parking lot. We ordered food and sat down. It was very nice for them to have brought the food to our table, employees are very nice. As we started eating we noticed that the fries were way too salty. Also, sometimes ordering on a kiosk was hard to figure things out but we are trying to get used to it. So moral of the story, we love Steak & Shake and that they are frying the fries in beef talo/lard. As an establishment I give them a 4+. This particular location can do well with proper lighting, not having a padlock on the door, having their open sign lit so it's welcoming to the public. To begin with, immediately you are met with a sign telling you to use kiosk only, which normally isn't an issue but at steak n shake they used to be more friendly and more approachable. The kiosk being the only option gives a cold uncaring feel and I think going out to eat should be a decent experience. I was ignored by several staff when waiting at the counter to question about ingredients due to allergies. After waiting I just bought what I was familiar with, Chicken Tenders. When our shakes were brought out it was so quick I couldn't even open my mouth before he darted away. When the food came out it was baskets stacked onto each other, which is cross contamination of food and just unsanitary to have the basket touching the food below it. The chicken tenders were smaller than my pointer finger. Honestly it's not worth going back. It's disappointment after disappointment. read more

I have ordered from here alot it use to be good but now it's terrible. For one I never get my full order whether I got thro the drive thru or order online. I never go in cause I have a 1 year old and a dog I always have with me. So I have to order online or drive thru and they always forget something. Then half the time the food is wrong. The quality has gotten so bad as well. I got my son a grilled cheese sandwich and it was nothing but bread this place has gotten terrible. The place is just chaos. The last 2 times have been so slow. Tonight I ordered online at 6:30 for a pick up at 7:15. I went into the store at 7:15 and waited 45 minutes for my order. We ordered three hamburgers and two milkshakes. I need to note there were only two other families in the restaurant at the time. Waited 25 minutes for the hamburgers and an extra 10 minutes for the shakes. One of the shakes was wrong, so I asked to get it made correctly. When it never came, I went back up and that was when they, asked me what was wrong with my shake. They didn't bother to make a new shake when I said I got the wrong one. Service was terrible. Ok- so this was a pretty bad establishment for a long time. Things shut down during Covid then sort of reopened, but sorta not...it was weird. So I think they are fully opened now, along with dine in option. We went inside, ordered from the kiosk, sat down in a clean environment, waited maybe 8 minutes, our order was announced to be picked up. Everything looked great. It was really good! Burgers were perfectly cooked, fries were crispy, bun was soft and warm, all items exactly as ordered. The milkshakes were delicious and the self serve pop machine is a big plus. As we were finishing up a very polite young man who prepared our meals came out to make sure we were satisfied. He clearly took pride in what he was doing and was very excited to hear our praise. The reason why I am marking this typical fast joint with 4 stars intead of the normal 3 is because the burgers are that good. This is not to say that they have a varied menu (they don't) or that the drive-thru is fast (it isn't) but for what you get, it is all kinds of worth it. A burger and frie4d will run you about 5 bucks or less and it tastes good. For that kind of mulah, I really can't complain. I have not been inside, so I do not know how clean the facility is. the employees are pleasant and polite though. read more

This place is hilariously bad. The food is half decent of course for a fast food place because they have killer milkshakes and okay burgers and fries, but the service here is a joke. I've had friends work here and I can tell nobody cares if they lose their job here. It's dope cause they are open 24/7 and you can be high or drunk here and I'm sure most people here are doing more than that in Brunswick Ohio lmaooo but overall it's a dope place to go if your drunk at 4am. I've been here when literally ONE person was working the whole restaurant and it was the funniest thing I've ever seen in my entire existence. I would give 0 stars if I could. Went through the drive thru, got attitude from the cashier kid when I ordered. Pulled around and the kid didn't take my coupon, I gave him my card and he gave it back and asked for it again. I'm pretty sure we got double charged. Then he forgot my milkshake after I pulled away. This restaurant has gone downhill ever since they stopped having a manager on site. If they are not Out of food when you order you have to wait to be seated and have your order taken, then wait for your food to arrive. Sometimes arrives lukewarm. Today we went there for breakfast and with 2 people working, there were dirty dishes on the tables and food & trash all over the floor. Appearance is everything! UPDATE I am at SNS now and something is very wrong. I've had to send back my meal twice so far. The manager looks and is acting high and the other manager is too busy making and serving her family to my left. I have to write this review. I am/was regular at SnS in Brunswick, but something happened recently with the staff that has caused me to write this review. They are unkempt, rude, ignorant to the menu and quite frankly act like a bunch of school girls in the hall. I love the garlic double burger there but without the garlic spread. So in other words a burger with the garlic salt on top of the bun. So that's what I ordered. My girlfriend ordered a Frisco and it was fairly slow that evening. Our waitress took the order and came back with the food some few minutes later and that's when I realized that it had the garlic sauce on it. I asked her about it and she became flustered. I was not rude, just asked her what it was as I normally get it the way I described above. She then, without saying another word took my plate and went in the back. She came back 2 minutes later with a bun and two plain patties. I started to ask her a question about it, but then just asked her for a slice of cheese and the manager. She went over to the grill person where everyone gathered to hear her speak. Then watched as the manager who was a part of the group, a person I'd never seen before, came over and told us that she, the waitress, was new and didn't understand the menu. The manager, who was pregnant, told us that she doesn't really care for the meat quality anyway and won't eat there. Maybe she said that, because we didn't ask anything close to anything like that, because she was pregnant and I've heard of people saying certain foods can be off putting when pregnant, but the whole experience was surreal! We were both baffled and now clearly frustrated. We ate the fries and left. Waste of $$ and time. Steak and Shake has lost our business. When and if they ever decide to hire people that actually read there own menu or eat there own food then we may consider going back. Thought it might have been and off day so on a Sat, we decided to go again but the same thing happened- waited 35 min for good and this was the case EVERYONE in the dining area. Waitresses stayed behind the pop machine or in the back to avoid people complaining, tables next to us were left dirty the whole time we were there- Major negative Energy in the place. Oh boy. They tried. They really did. As a former server, some tips: Consolidate. Ask the whole table if there is something you need before you go back to the kitchen. The shake machine can't be as backed up as 20+ minutes per shake. As a cook, do multiple orders at the same time. Don't have the hostess cook. Apologize if the order is wrong. Pre-bus. And above all fake it till you make it.... Even if it is a rough night try to make someone's day rather than following suit with the rest of the staff looking like you are in the seventh circle of hell. It's burgers and shakes. We were asked why we still sitting at the bar area when we already had our food. Server was annoyed when we explained we still needed the shakes. My experience was a lot different from the other people who have posted reviews. I stopped at this location because it was off I-71. Went through the drive-thru, placed my order, and then paid. I figured it was Steak 'n Shake and it would be a few minutes before my food was ready. So I get out of the car so I can get the pills I have to take with dinner out of the trunk. Ordered one burger minus pickle and tomato and it was made with everything just like the other on. The bad part started after placing the order. To be honest this review is strictly for night time, I am not consistently here for day time hours. There is nothing wrong at all with the food. If you want good food this is a decent stop for late at night especially with the price, but that is all that makes me keep coming here. Service is garbage, and that's being nice. Rude servers, rude drive through workers, slow, not clean, when you walk in it feels like you are more of a burden to them than a customer. Drive though is pathetic. Now, saying this, a few of the waitresses are gems and deserve more pay, sometimes I see one waitress working 40x harder and better than the other. Worst is waiting to pay. I love Steak 'n Shake but this location feels like stress, chaos, and confusion every visit. There's always a substantial wait and I would've rated this place higher if the people were friendly. The manager treats the employees terribly and you can hear the misery in the manager's voice with every interaction. A place where people aren't making much you have to bank on the culture to maintain good people. Bring someone new in and this place will be a big pay off. If you are considering eating here... be prepared to wait. Be prepared for the staff to mess up your order. And laugh at the shenanigans. read more

i have never had a problem with this steak 'n shake til today. i went in with 2 of my friends around 9 and we were seated pretty quickly. we sat there for 20 minutes before the waitress approached us. we ordered 3 shakes and a side of fries. as were sitting we see couples coming in and being seated right away and having their orders taken. these people had their actual meals and shakes out way before we did and they already paid and left before we got our food. we finally got our food 45 minutes later. the shakes were completely melted. and the fries weren't even out. i asked for a new shake because it's melted and the waitress kindly did so. she also took it off my bill but still, 45 minutes for a melted shake? when we were done we went to check out and the lady checking us out completely just ignored us and started yelling and laughing so loud with her friend. it was absolutely ridiculous. i've never wanted to get out of a restaurant so fast. definitely will travel farther to a different location than ever come to this one again. read more
